- First off, you have an incredible background evolving from software engineer to management roles and ultimately a CISO for some of the industry leading organizations such as Siemen's and HP. I would love to hear about that journey and how you found yourself ultimately becoming an industry leading CISO along the way. - How do you think the CISO role has changed over the years? We're hearing more about speaking the language of the business, potential legal liability, new SEC rules and more. What is your perspective on the current challenges and evolution of the CISO role?- You're now out of the CISO seat but still active in the community, serving in various director roles, including with publicly traded companies I believe. We've long heard some state that CISO's would make great board members and bring a long-needed perspective on cyber risk. How has it been transitioning out of the CISO role and into Director type roles?- Many CISO's and cybersecurity leaders now want to pursue a similar path, looking for advisory and board roles with firms and so on. Can you provide some guidance and tips for those looking to do something similar? - I noticed you also have some advisory roles in addition to Director roles. Can you draw a distinction between the two roles for listeners, and what to consider when pursuing one or the other, so folks better understand the potential pathways?- Knowing you've had such an amazing career and are still so passionate about the community and giving back, what are some of the key recommendations you have for both those aspiring to advance their career in cyber and eventually become a CISO, or beyond that, move into board level and advisory roles? What skillsets and expertise should they be focused on the most?

Äärioikeisto käyttää demokratiaa hyväkseen omien ideologisten näkemystensä vahvistamiseen, mikä on vakava ongelma.

“We'll have over 50% of our facilities producing EVs here in the U.S. by 2025. We've announced four battery plants here in the U.S., a number of supply chain agreements, again, to really get those critical minerals happening here. So, so really excited to see where this, this is going to take us.” Kristen Siemen on Electric Ladies Podcast General Motors announced it was going all-electric by around 2035, in some ways pushing the legacy automakers to accelerate their transitions too. They also committed to reducing their carbon footprint overall aggressively, from materials, to how they power their plants, to the supply chain. How are they doing it? You'll hear: How GM is bringing its 25 year history in electric vehicles to 21st century mobility needs. How GM is allocating the $35 billion they committed to this transformation to EVs – in all types of vehicles, from luxury cars to Hummers. What it's going to take for EVs to go mainstream. How the much-needed EV infrastructure gets built, including with the new federal legislation and GM's recent charging deal. And so, it all circles back to that passion. If you like what you're doing, you're going to work harder and you're going to be the person that they want on the team.” Kristen Siemen on Electric Ladies podcast You'll also want to listen to: Telva McGruder, Chief Diversity Officer of General Motors – on pivoting that 100+ year old company from gas-powered cars to electric cars Suzy Deering, Chief Marketing Officer at Ford Motor Company, on disrupting a 100+ automaker. Composition by Eric Powell. "My goal in creating Please_wait was to embrace the theme of "obsolete sounds" on as many levels as possible. After selecting the sound of a Siemen's ventilator–a rather rattly, yet sustained sound, I decided to use that everyday whirr to create a lush, choral, drone-y piece. I felt the best way to do that was to combine the fan sound with some kind of chime or bell. I happened to have a couple salvaged rotary telephone bells (another obsolete sound) in my studio, and I composed the piece using a now-obsolete computer and software system–a circa 2007 iMac running Logic Pro 8 with a c.2005 Zoom H4 as the recording device/audio interface. Obsolescent sounds meet obsolescent technology. "Please_wait uses convolution reverb to play the sounds of the ventilator 'through' the sounds of the telephone bells. In addition to this process, I used a small amount of pitch shifting and amplitude control to shape the piece. However, I didn't edit or trim any of the recordings, as I wanted the piece to explore how the handling sounds (i.e. switching the technology on or off) found in both the source recordings, and my recordings of the telephone chimes--something I think many field recordists choose to remove from their files as 'unwanted' sounds, yet are in fact a big part of how we hear our recording technology--would interact in the convolution process. The end result is a little unsettling, I know. Part of my love for this piece comes in how the harmonics of the two telephone bells grind up against each other as they vibrate through the sound of the ventilator: drifting from tonal conflict, to resolution, and back again. "As a last step in embracing old or disappearing sounds, I bounced/rendered the piece out in .mp3 format before upconverting it into .wav. An intentional move to capture some of the unique lossy characteristics of a disappearing format." This is part of the Obsolete Sounds project, the world's biggest collection of disappearing sounds and sounds that have become extinct – remixed and reimagined to create a brand new form of listening. No manufacturer can afford to ignore the concept of Digital Transformation. Yes, there continues some small need for manual lathes, but don't plan your future on that. In the past several editions of this podcast I discussed several business-side categories of digital transformation, from machine health to connected employees to using blockchain to create and maintain internal quality records. That information was intended to help you envision the future you are trying to create through digital. It was also intended to help you prioritize. Now it's time to act. No manufacturer has all the information and capabilities needed to design and implement a digital transformation -- not even the Siemen's of the world. They too reach out to external experts. It's possible you'll choose to start slowly with a small company helping you get your arms around machine sensors, data collection/quality/storage/security, and the information you can gain. But that company will not be the best one to lead you through your full transformation. Research systems integrators, talk with your peers, and visit several executives of manufacturers ahead of you on the journey. Attend trade shows and manufacturing conferences to gain a foundational understanding of the opportunities and challenges you will face. This electronic data world is rapidly evolving. Whomever is best today may well not be even among the good tomorrow. When choosing your partners, examine their history of staying in front of the pack, explore their investments and their financial commitments to the future of technologies, and reduce the chances of getting someone whom you outgrow in your first few years. This is an important choice, and not an easy one. It is no place to focus on lowest bid, but rather on most informed and most driven to stay informed.

This week on The New P&L Principles & Leadership in Business podcast series speaks to Franziska Dolak, Global Head of Digital Applications, Data-driven Services & Automation for Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Zug, Switzerland. Together with her team, Franziska researches and develops new digital innovations from a holistic and human-centric perspective. We discuss with Franziska: - How the principles that underpin Siemen's strapline ‘Ingenuity for Life' play out in practise in their business - On the basis of what data and which humans is human-centred design centred? How Siemens ensures that its future innovations don't fundamentally reinforce some of the inherent biases that already exist in society - Whether the intellectual awareness of the role technology plays in shaping the way society acts, reacts and interacts and how we go about our lives, is sometimes lost in the technology race for ‘smarter' cities - If we rely too much on data to drive innovation at the expense of human intuition in our modern approach to innovation - Whether much of the ‘highly disruptive technological innovation' today is more evolutionary than revolutionary - If big technology companies like Siemens are designing for the future or actually defining the future – in other words, reacting to need or creating demand Visit Seimens: https://www.siemens.com To subscribe to all of The New P&L series podcasts, go to: www.principlesandleadership.com Insta: @principlesandleadership --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/principlesandleadership/message

Changing the Game with Industry 4.0 in the Intelligent Enterprise
The buzz: ‘The digital thread refers to the communication framework that allows a connected data flow and integrated view of an asset's data throughout its lifecycle across traditionally siloed functional perspectives. The concept raises the bar for delivering “the right information to the right place at the right time' …spearheaded by the military aircraft industry, it is converging with the goals of Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing.” ibaset.com In this digital age, information is the key to innovation. Creating a digital thread across a product's life cycle captures real-time, accurate information from the customer, the purchasing team, the maintenance team and the engineering team. That data can be used to identify design improvements, create new features and lead to innovations. We'll ask CIMdata's Stan Przybylinski, Siemen's Joe Bohman and SAP's Keith Zobott for their take on Intelligent Products and Assets: Creating a Digital Thread from Design to Decommission.

"Stop the excuses...go do what you love! I just signed up for an adult dance class, and I suck at dancing" Imagine building a blog, a social media following, and a highly engaged audience - and then receiving a letter from a Fortune 100 business telling you to shut it all down... That is exactly what happened to Barara Siemen, and her first blog "Farm Barbie". Her original blog shared her life "on the farm" and her name was "Barbara", so "Farm Barbie" was a perfect fit - unless your Mattel! After a tough legal battle, Barbra had no choice but to shut everything down. For most people, that would be the end of blogging. Driven by a purpose to create a stronger generation of women (especially for her daughter) she dusted herself off and reemerged as The Chick Wire. Now, Barbra shares stories of empowering women from students to a firefighter.
