On August 1, the United States and Russia conducted a landmark prisoner exchange involving 16 people – the first of its kind since 1986 – which resulted in the release of several leading Russian dissidents. 14 countries, including Canada and the US, suspended funding to the U.N.'s Palestinian Refugee Agency in response to Israeli allegations that 12 employees were involved in the attack on Israel on October 7th, and roughly 10% of their employees in Gaza have links to Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Human rights workers argue that this is a form of collective punishment that will have dire consequences on a population already suffering from widespread hunger, displacement, and disease. Furthermore, cutting off payments to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria could destabilize an already volatile region. UNRWA's critics argue that by keeping Palestinians in a perpetual state of refugee status, the organization prevents them from setting down roots elsewhere in the region and thus acts as an obstacle to peace. Given the irrefutable evidence of its ties to Hamas and support of terror against Israel, they argue, there is no reason to continue to fund an agency openly committed to the right of return for Palestinian refugees and the elimination of the Jewish State. Do you remember voting for government agencies to insert themselves into the regulation of online speech? I don't remember any such vote. I don't remember any politician campaigning to do this or any part of the public being asked for their permission at all. It sure seems like they appointed that authority to themselves without the permission of the electorate, solely for their own benefit. WA Premier Mark McGowan is currently in Sydney attending a Federal Court hearing of a defamation case brought against him by Clive Palmer. McGowan called Palmer an enemy of the state, McGowan has replied that Palmer has created a band of angry people threatening him and his family. McGowan denied reports in the West Australian newspaper he was going to wear full PPE to attend a virtual national cabinet meeting when he was quarantining back in Perth. The Slippery Slope Podcast Reuters Canada's Emergencies Act: how will it squeeze funding of the trucker protests? Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday invoked rarely-used special measures to end protests. He said he would invoke the Emergencies Act to deal with the "Freedom Convoy" protests, started on Jan. 28 by Canadian truckers opposing a vaccinate-or-quarantine mandate for cross-border drivers. They have turned into a rallying point for people opposed to a range of Trudeau's policies, including COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and a carbon tax. A declaration of a public welfare emergency allows the government to regulate the distribution of essential goods, decide what are essential services, and impose fines on violations of the act. It sets out a compensation scheme for those who suffer damages as a result of its application. KEY MEASURES ANNOUNCED ON MONDAY Banks and financial institutions will be able to temporarily freeze the accounts of those suspected of supporting the blockades, without obtaining a court order. The insurance on vehicles being used in the protests can also be suspended. All crowdfunding platforms and payment providers they use must register with Canada's anti-money laundering agency, FINTRAC, and report suspicious activities effective immediately. The act will broaden the scope of the government's anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules to cover crowdfunding platforms. The changes are being introduced because crowdfunding platforms are being used to support illegal activities, the government said. The emergency measures would also allow the government to order towing companies to provide their services to clear blockades. Trudeau said the measures would be "geographically specific and targeted only to where they are needed." They will also be "time limited." This is just my opinion and questioning; Why is the Canadian Government using this Emergency Act when they could use diplomacy? Why is it that Trudeau runs and hides and does not listen to the concerns of the people. His immediate reaction is to stamp out the will of any dissenting voices, because how dare they disagree with me. And placing arduous restrictions on law abiding citizens and their finances under the guise of "terrorism" laws is right out of the Dictators playbook. Yet Canada is not the first of the Western Governments have decided to use powers against the people they are elected to serve instead of working with them. Some believe the announcement of the Omicron variant of concern is too concidental as it has taken away media and public attention from the upcoming trial of Ghislane Maxwell deceased known pedophile Jeffrey Epstien's madame. The Victoria Health Department in its daily media release has mentioned that people who attended the various freedom protests in November have tested positive for covid. Given that hundreds of thousands of Victorians have attended these outdoor rallies and they could only find two dozen positive cases from people who attended it was hardly a superspreader event. A Thornbury cafe owner found his shop windows smashed with a death threat pinned on the front angry at the business for enforcing the Victorian Government's vaccine passport system. The Morrison Government plans to draft and introduce legislation to force social media companies to unmask anonymous accounts that troll and defame others. If this became law it would spell the end for many far-left social media accounts who for years have doxxed and defamed people who hold right right of centre views A fake news story was posted claiming that Dan Andrews called the unvaccinated the N-word and believed they should drink from separate water fountains. Dan and Albo posted a photo of themselves in front of a barbeque but it didn't look like it was on and the meat looked pan fried.
