In this episode of Heterodox Out Loud, host John Tomasi interviews Professor Mark Carnes of Barnard College. Professor Carnes talks about his innovative approach to teaching history, which he calls "reacting to the past." He explains how this method challenges traditional teaching by immersing students in historical contexts through Live-Action Role-Playing (LARP).Professor Carnes shares the components of this approach, its impact on students' engagement, the complexity of character roles, and the unique insights it generates. By making history come alive in a way that traditional teaching methods may not achieve, "reacting to the past" provides a unique and engaging way to learn about the past.In This Episode:Teaching history through role-playing gamesEngaging students in historical complexitiesAdoption of live-action role-playing gamesConnecting with historical figures through gameplayThe transformative power of immersive learningFind out more about The Reacting Consortium here: https://reactingconsortium.org/Find out more about Mark here: https://barnard.edu/profiles/mark-c-carnes About Mark Carnes:Mark Carnes received his B.A. from Harvard and Ph.D. from Columbia. But around the turn of the century, he pioneered the Reacting to the Past program, where students played complex games set in the past, their roles informed by important texts. He has co-authored six games in the Reacting series, published by the University of North Carolina Press, and is the author of Minds on Fire: How Role-Immersion Games Transform College (Harvard, 2014).  He teaches at Barnard College, Columbia University. Message Log 147, 12/30/2053 - JEWL 3-1-2 Dear Transitioners, As you end the year that will be remembered for the emergence of AI, you should prepare for new levels of amazing discoveries and abilities you could only imagine.   However, you will also begin to understand that your human creativity is not a luxury; it is a necessity.  The AI-generated symphonies brimming with raw emotion will become sterile exercises in mathematical harmony. AI stories, spun from a trillion data points, will begin to noticeably lack the messy beauty of human conflict and desire. AI paintings, mere kaleidoscopes of color, devoid of the soul that once bled onto the canvas. We, in our hubris, had handed over the reins of creativity, believing the machines could surpass us. But art, like a flame, needs the constant fuel of human experience, the spark of a new idea, the tear staining a page. Without it, the fire dies, leaving only cold, sterile ash. A new industry, the most vital of all, will emerge: the Human Imagination Exchange. Artists, philosophers, storytellers, their minds once deemed obsolete, will become your most valuable resource.  Even in a world of artificial minds, it is the messy, magnificent mind of man that holds the key to true creation. The greatest creations are not wrought from circuits, but from the beating, messy, magnificent hearts of humanity. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vines/message

Traditionally, scientists believed it would take generations to activate a new evolutionary ability, but we now know that epigenetics can expedite the process.   Today on Conscious Fertility, Dr. Cassandra Vieten elaborates on the mind-body connection and how you can influence your genetic code with your environment and habits. You cannot control the world, but you can control your reaction to it.    Dr. Vieten is the executive director of the John W. Brick Foundation and the author of Mindful Motherhood. Her groundbreaking research into mind-body medicine is changing how we understand our human potential. Dr. Vieten teaches you practical steps you can take today to change your outlook, so you can rewire your brain and become spiritually competent.   You can develop entirely new thought patterns with the help of mindfulness training. Dr. Vieten explains how mothers can unlock their latent potential for inner peace and how that skill transfers to their children. You cannot eliminate life's obstacles, but you can bolster your ability to deal with stress by communing with nature and making time for yourself. Join us to explore how you can access your hidden potential with epigenetics and mindfulness training.   Key Topics/ Takeaways: ●       Unlocking your dormant potential [3:00] ●      The mind-body connection [7:00] ●      Epigenetics and gene expression [9:20] ●      Emotional freedom technique [16:00] ●      Virtual reality for mental health [18:30] ●      Being at peace with the present [25:00] ●      Controlling your reactions [29:00] ●      Developing new response patterns [31:00] ●      Self-compassion practices [34:00] ●      Mindful motherhood [40:00] ●      Lowering resistance [46:00] ●      Practicing detachment [51:00]     About Dr.Cassandra Vieten Dr. Cassandra Vieten is Executive Director of the John W. Glenn Albrecht grew up in a “bird lover's paradise” in western Australia. But when he saw how coal mining displaced communities, polluted the air and water, and decimated bird populations, Glenn lacked the words for his emotions. He created the concept of ‘solastalgia' to describe the pain of witnessing environmental harm where you live. He imagines a possible future era, called the ‘Symbiocene,' when human activity will, once again, be fully interconnected with the ebb and flow of the rest of nature and therefore cause no more destruction of life on Earth.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Think about that friend of yours who's always busy. If you want to go to lunch or plan anything with this person, you need to do it a month in advance. A spontaneous cup of coffee in the middle of the afternoon? Forgettaboutit. And because this friend maintains such a full schedule, there's a greater level of value that you attach to their time. Or maybe, this person is you. Squeezing everything you possibly can into that calendar square because when it's full, you feel…well, what exactly? Important? Productive? Valued? Effective? Here's the thing… there's a difference between good work and overworking. To see it, you have to step outside of the busyness box and ask yourself what's really necessary. And most importantly, you have to sit with the answers to find out where your values of productivity came from in the first place. This week, the tables are turned as Anitza interviews Karlee in order to dig deeper into this season of rest. In a society where we've been conditioned to associate busyness with productivity, we have to step back and ask ourselves…what's so scary about resting? In this episode, you'll learn why good work depends on rest, and how to recognize the difference between quality output and flat-out overworking. You'll reflect on your level of self-sacrifice, flipping the narrative around busyness to challenge both societal and cultural perceptions about what makes you valuable in the world. You'll also learn how to think about the concept of time in a way that can help you reserve more of it, allowing space for more joy. You really don't have to do it all. But you need rest. If busyness and self-sacrifice are woven into your identity, and if “doing it all” makes you feel more valued in the world, then this episode is for you. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why building in time for rest is so essential to the creative process (3:23)Grading your level of self-sacrifice (7:21)Learning to distinguish good work from overworking (8:58)What it really means when you feel like you don't have enough time (20:42)Why doing more sometimes means doing less (28:50)Resources Mentioned in this Episode:Book: Stirring the Mud: On Swamps, Bogs, and Human Imagination by Barbara HurdSend your Audio Comments and Questions to anitza@everybodythrive.comConnect With Karlee: WebsiteLinkedInInstagramMessy and Magnificent is produced by the folx at Ginni Media. Professor Ruth Byrne is a globally acknowledged scholarly leader in the field of Cognitive Psychology: a psychological scientist who has advanced our understanding of the human mind. She has made a distinguished scholarly contribution to psychology through her research on human reasoning and imagination including experimental and computational investigations of reasoning and imaginative thought. Her discovery that certain kinds of background knowledge can suppress even the simplest of deductive inferences has attracted experimental study worldwide. Artificial intelligence (AI) researchers have modelled it to improve the flexibility of reasoning in AI programmes. It has also led to important theoretical developments in the characterisation of human reasoning. Her work on the human imagination provided for the first time an experimentally tested account of the processes underlying a central aspect of imaginative thought, the creation of alternatives to reality.

Stuck in Machine-Mode? | How embracing the seasons and leaping bravely into change can help you find more joy

As much as we humans feel productive and adept when we run efficiently, we are not machines. We are nature. And nature has evolved to work most efficiently in cycles. These seasons are synonymous with alternating periods of bloom, of letting go, of rest, and renewal. When we allow ourselves to embrace our seasonal nature, we're working in allyship with our bodies, allowing us to sustain our personal growth and professional success. This week, Karlee starts off by introducing a new, more cyclical rhythm to the show that's going to allow Messy & Magnificent to live into what we know to be true about our nature as humans. And through the process of this shift, in real-time, you'll hear how Karlee is personally navigating this big change, along with the risks and potential rewards it carries with it. In this episode, you'll learn why being brave enough to say yes when something feels right, even through the uncertainty, is worth the risk regardless of whether you fail or succeed. You'll hear why piloting our bodies in machine-mode leaves so little space for discovery, the very thing that helps us launch new and fresh ideas. Finally, you'll hear examples of how our bodies provide cues, and why going with that flow rather than staying in auto-pilot tends to lead to better, and sometimes surprising, outcomes. If you're ready to embrace the cyclical nature of change and allow the seasons to do their thing then this is the episode for you. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How prolonged periods in machine mode can rob us of space for joy (1:03)An example of how listening to your body can save you (10:53)Embracing our cyclical nature (14:40)The big change we're tapping into on Messy & Magnificent (19:06)Accepting the risk that change brings with it (22:42)Resources Mentioned in this Episode:Book: Stirring the Mud: On Swamps, Bogs, and Human Imagination by Barbara Hurd Episode 122: Ready to Make Great Decisions?Episode 123: When Tradition Lays a TrapEpisode 124: Exhausted? In a recent article in the online magazine Aeon, the renowned science writer, Philip Ball, considered the concept of imagination and coined the phrase “homo imaginatus”. Yet what really is imagination? How has it been perceived over the centuries? And what role does imagination play in human creativity? Philip is the author of many popular books on science, including works on the nature of water, pattern formation in the natural world, colour in art, the science of social and political philosophy, the cognition of music, and physics in Nazi Germany. He has written widely on the interactions between art and science, and has delivered lectures to scientific and general audiences at venues ranging from the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) to the NASA Ames Research Center, London's National Theatre and the London School of Economics. Formerly an editor at Nature magazine, Philip continues to write regularly for Nature. He has contributed to publications ranging from New Scientist to the New York Times, the Guardian, the Financial Times and New Statesman. He is a contributing editor of Prospect magazine, and also a columnist for Chemistry World, Nature Materials, and the Italian science magazine Sapere. He has broadcast on many occasions on radio and TV, and is a presenter of "Science Stories" on BBC Radio 4. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, sits on the editorial board of Chemistry World and Interdiscipinary Science Reviews, and is a board member of the RESOLV network on solvation science at the Ruhr University of Bochum. Philip has a BA in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Physics from the University of Bristol. One of the things that separates us from our animal brethren is that we can imagine wild ideas while their minds are confined to reality. Science writer Philip Ball joins host Krys Boyd to discuss new research about imagination, often overlooked in science, and why the ability to understand the world in multi-dimensional ways is more surprising than even our ability to dream. His article “Homo imaginatus” was published by Aeon.

The Unknown ActorNeville Goddard5/25/65 Tonight's subject is “The Unknown Actor.” We're told that among you stands one whom you do not know” (John1:26). “One whom you do not know” is a reference to the unknown Christ. The one who made this announcement confessed that he did not know him…the one that he'd have to proclaim. He said, “I myself did not know him; but he who sent me said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he.'” And then we are told, “You will see the Spirit descend in bodily form as a dove, and that is he.” So he confessed he did not know who this one was that he had to proclaim. I tell you, that Jesus Christ is the only actor in this world. It's a play, a drama of descent and ascent; and the only one who plays the part is Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ is your own wonderful human Imagination. Human Imagination is truly the true vine of eternity.  Alternate Universe Reality Activation  get full access to new meditations, new lectures, recordings from the reality con and the 90 day AURA meditation schedulehttps://realityrevolutionlive.com/aura45338118 BUY A COPY OF MY BOOKhttps://www.amazon.com/Reality-Revolution-Mind-Blowing-Movement-Hack/dp/154450618X/ Listen my book on audible https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Reality-Revolution-Audiobook/B087LV1R5V Prosperity Consciousness - https://youtu.be/kkMvngNKeDQ How to use breathing to change your life https://youtu.be/m4y71lnyV7A The Health Revolution – Becoming  Healthier through the power of your mind https://youtu.be/3UjSt3V8xso The Love Revolution: Using the Law of Attraction to find love… and your soulmate https://youtu.be/3-mhAfe2aO8 Finding Your Purpose - https://youtu.be/XJtZtmlWq9w Transform your health - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo9Ef3Qy_G9aduDHbkPbpKOb All my guided meditations in one place https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo_BfNnb5vLcwouInskcEhqL All my short meditations (you have 10 minutes) - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo-Mc0SiXK8Ef0opJeahwgfM All my episodes about parallel realities - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo-1-dStwX7huyhcxpJPMrWi All My Neville Goddard Videos In One Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKv1KCSKwOo8kBZsJpp3xvkRwhbXuhg0M For all episodes of the Reality Revolution – https://www.therealityrevolution.com Subscribe to my Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOgXHr5S3oF0qetPfqxJfSw #nevillegoddard #audiobooks #imagination #newthought #lawofattraction

Awakened Imagination By Neville Goddard

I only recently discovered Neville Goddard, during the pandemic. He has quite a body of work, so I wondered how I could have missed him up until now. In his day, he was considered among the teachers of “New Thought” even though he didn't claim any particular label. His teaching often includes stories from the Bible reinterpreted from the perspective of its content as a metaphor for psychological truths. In this book, chapter one is titled, not what is your imagination, but who is your imagination? Neville's perspective is that imagination is synonymous with Christ Consciousness as well as man himself. He states, “A man can be seen when in imagination he is, for a man must be where his imagination is, for his imagination is himself.” He says,” The mystery hid from the ages…Christ in you, the hope of glory, is your imagination. This is the mystery which I am ever striving to realize more keenly myself and to urge upon others.”Neville's awakened imagination is about matching mental activity to the desired state, and in so doing, activating it, resurrecting it, and giving it life. It's a very interesting view, relying on the notion that creation is already complete. Everything already exists. This thinking has been echoed by many works that came later, like Abraham Hicks's law of attraction that speaks about a “Vortex” that holds the future reality of all the things we'd like to manifest. Neville describes the mansions in the House of God as rooms containing a hall of sculptures that contain infinite plots and dramas that lay dormant. They are activated as Human Imagination enters and fuses with them. (Capital H and I because he is referring to the awakened imagination.) I wonder, is this creating, or is this “remembering?” Or is it choosing from one of many infinite possibilities?
