As Washington Bureau Chief for the ABC, Zoe Daniel had a front-row seat to the ascension and decline of Donald Trump. Seeing how he masterfully harnessed fear and anger, coupled with a reality-TV honed entertainment instinct, she bore witness to the dawn of a new era in US politics. With a new steady, staid and significantly unassuming presidential administration, who is the anomaly – Trump or Biden? What happens to Trump followers when he’s not in the White House? How does this change perceptions of US power and influence? To discuss these issues, USSC hosted a webinar featuring Zoe Daniel, co-author of the new book Greetings from Trumpland in conversation with Jim Middleton, former foreign correspondent and ABC political editor. Zoe Daniel was the ABC’s US bureau chief in Washington from December 2015 until December 2019. She is the co-author of Greetings from Trumpland: How an unprecedented presidency changed everything. She was the ABC's South East Asia correspondent from 2009 to 2013 and Africa correspondent from 2005 until 2007. Zoe co-hosted the international news program The World on News 24 and Australia Plus. Jim Middleton has a career spanning 50 years as a political reporter. From 1980-86 he was the ABC's North America correspondent and from 1988-2007 he was the ABC's Chief Political Correspondent and later Political Editor in Canberra reporting six federal elections. Mercedes green lights new EQA EV for Australia (plus nuts!)

Mercedes-Benz green-lights the new all-electric EQA EV for Australia. Hilariously, after all of Volkswagen’s recent poorly considered protestation concerning its inability to sell EVs here, thanks to our backward regulatory environment, Mercedes-Benz only just now says it’s rather looking forward to the new EQA coming here later this year. Save thousands on any new car (Australia-only): https://autoexpert.com.au/contact AutoExpert discount roadside assistance package: https://247roadservices.com.au/autoexpert/ Did you like this report? You can help support the channel, securely via PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DSL9A3MWEMNBW&source=url Apparently the Germans don’t really talk to each other, or share hymn books, all that often. Because Volkswagen is falling all over itself to denounce Australia as a third-world backwater (I’m paraphrasing) while Mercedes sees a real opportunity here for its new compact EV SUV, the EQA. Dealerships will receive their allotments of the all-electric EQA later this year. (You can order one from next month if you want.) As you know: not a huge fan of Mercedes. Better than Volkswagen, though. (Not hard.) The point is: Free country. If the EQA moves you, if it flips the switch on, let the current take you. Resistance is futile in that state. And who knows? EQA may not be a D-O-G. It offers a range of up to 480km, and comes with a Chargefox rapid charger subscription, for longer trips. I’ve used Chargefox - they’re awesome. EQU has a 66.5 kWh battery and according to official Suppository data, the electron consumption is 16.2 kWh per 100km - for the mathematics and physics cognoscenti. The price is interesting: $76,800 inclusive of GST and LCT. There’s also a fairly OTT Edition 1 version with a lube dispenser and other self-righteous and otherwise unnecessary features, should you want to be the most annoying guest at the world’s most boring dinner party, for an additional $7300. What I find fascinating about this is actually two things: No word from them on how difficult it was to justify selling it here, to the factory in Germany. Which is completely at odds with Volkswagen’s recent counter-claim, oxygenated far too extensively in CarAdvice. Equally fascinating: the price. Roughly the same as a Hyundai Kona Highlander Electric - a vehicle I drove for approximately one global pandemic and 10,000 kilometres. And roughly equivalent on size, range, and other key operational characteristics. Of course, the EQA does display the coveted Mercedes badges front and rear - which is so damn compelling to many people. For mid-$70s - if that’s in fact how it plays out - which one would the average person choose to be seen in? Even for $10k more... So I’d suggest the advent of EQA is also going to be something of a fox in the henhouse, for Hyundai, with vehicles such as the Kona Electric - and also a cause for concern over their new Ioniq sub-brand. And also for Kia with its EV6 seemingly under consideration for Australia. Volkswagen’s not worried, however - it already has its excuses for failure to sell its EVs here perfectly well sorted. According to Volkswagen, their upcoming EV failure is all our fault.

No US president has been more media focused than President Trump. And likewise, no US president has consistently dominated global news cycles like President Trump. While most Australians watch the US presidential election from afar, intrepid Aussie journalists have spent the year in the epicentre of American political drama: Washington. How does the 2020 election compare to others? How do the candidates campaign and how do you cover them during a pandemic? What aspects of campaign journalism have changed forever? To discuss these issues, the USSC hosted a webinar event with three Australian correspondents in Washington: Cameron Stewart of The Australian, Jacob Greber of The Australian Financial Review, and Matthew Knott of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in a conversation with former ABC Washington Bureau Chief, Zoe Daniel. Cameron Stewart is an Associate Editor and Washington Correspondent for The Australian. This is his eighth US presidential election since he started with the paper and he is working in Washington DC during this pandemic. Welcome to the #Spaitgirl Talk Show with Yvette Le Blowitz EP.70 - How to Fill Your Own Cup Back Up and others with Emma Sullings, founder of Happy Boxes Project Some in our own backyard in Australia are going without basic toiletires. Accessibility to simple items like deodorant, shampoo, soap prove challenging when the closest store can be up to 1000km away. Some communities are at the end of 750km of harsh, red dirt roads. Others can be cut off by flood waters for months at a time. Some are only accessible via boat or plane. Some communities may be lucky enough to have a small store, but the prices of basic items is exuberant. 19% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are living in unacceptable living standards due to overcrowded housing and structural faults. The target released by the government in the recent Close the Gap Agreement is to ensure 88% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are living in housing of an acceptable standard by 2031. Whilst this would be an improvement, it still will to be on par with non-indigenous people. Meanwhile there is no mention of the cost of living in remote communities nor any plan to further subsidise basic groceries so that people can afford to shop for their families in their communities and at Happy Boxes Project they believe this is unacceptable. So they now want to send as many Happy Boxes filled with Self Care projects as possible. To provide women, regardless of their location and situation, the enjoyment of life's little luxuries that we regularly take for granted. Matriarchs are the backbone of our communities, Mothers, Sisters, Aunties, Grandmothers, all trying to support their families in adverse circumstances, quite often pouring from an empty cup. If just one Happy Box can fill one person's cup then what Happy Box Projects do is worthwhile. The Happy Boxes Project Aim to: - Support the empowerment of women through alleviating the barrier of accessing basic needs - Provide opportunities for women to build capacity for individual and community development; and - Provide opportunities for women to share story and create connection to nurture positive mental health Emma Sullings is the founder of the Happy Boxes Project, however she prefers to stay that the project 'founder her'. She spent five years working, living and learning in remote communities in the Northern Territory, Australia as a teacher, youth mentor, family educator and leader in trauma informed practice in the class room. It was during this time that she realised how difficult it was to access basic needs such as food and toiletries. She originally set out to gather donations for a youth wellbeing program that she ran, but as people learnt about the project (and the crazy price tags found in remote stores) she was completely bombarded with beautiful donations from all over Australia. And so the Happy Boxes was born and started to spread happiness out to other remote communities in need. It has now grown to support more than 25 communities, over four states. Emma now chairs the Happy Boxes Project Board of Volunteers steering the ship and keeping up with the cray pace at which it is evolving. Although at times juggling the Happy Boxes Project with work and being a new Mum comes with its challenges, when Emma hears about the happiness the project is creating, it is truly one her greatest pleasures. If only everyone who has donated to the project could see for themselves just how it special it is. In this episode you can find out more about Emma Sullings - start up HAPPY BOXES PROJECT charity story - her self care rituals as a busy working Mum - learn more about what living in a Remote Community in Australia is actually like - how to empower other women and young girls by sending a Happy Box to a Remote Community in Australia Plus we talk all things - Self Care, Mental Health, Motherhood, Juggling Projects our Remote Communities and How we Can All Make a Difference and become a Real Influencer. ------------ To Find Out MORE Stay in contact with our Podcast Show Guest Emma Sullings Website www.happyboxesproject.com Instagram @happyboxesproject ------- IN SUPPORT  After you tune into this episode   I would LOVE for you to - subscribe to the #spaitgirl podcast show with Yvette Le Blowitz - leave a 5* rating and review  - tell a friend, family member, or anyone you meet too.  ---------- Subscribe to #spaitgirl at website: www.spaitgirl.com  instagram: @spaitgirl ------ Podcast Host  Yvette Le Blowitz  Instagram @yvetteleblowitz

Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! In the introduction of today’s episode, I share what I’m learning inside the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. As I read, I continue to learn how from the time the slave trade began in the 1500’s and as it continued through the 1800’s, the black body was used to justify slavery. White women and men viewed the black body as grotesque, wording depicted from literature quoted in the book from this timeframe. Religion and faith was also used to elevate thinness- believing that the ability to control fatness and control eating was attached with morality. It’s had me reflecting- NO WONDER now in 2020 we have such deeply ingrained beliefs that how we eat and what we look like is attached with superiority and morality. We can see this now ver badum in the health and wellness industry, both the view the controlling your eating makes you superior and that controlling your body weight makes you elevated, or better than. I hope knowing this helps you to pause and think...do you really want to participate in a system that was used as a means to justify oppression and slavery? Now, to today’s episode! Today on the podcast we have guest Kate Eskuri. When I found Kate it was like finding a long lost like minded sister in this world of holistic health and well being! Kate is a registered nurse, going back to school to get her doctorate in integrative health. She believes in traditional practices backed by modern research, which is totally up my alley. In this episode, you’ll hear us geek out on our love for blending Eastern and Western philosophies, how to be less black and white about your health and wellness rituals and what it means to practice holistic and realistic self care. Kate is the author and founder of the Foundation blog and I know if you enjoy today’s episode you’ll love learning from her blog and following her on Instagram.  In this episode we discuss: Kate’s origin story to beginning the Foundation Blog What does foundation mean to Kate and 3  tips or takeaways of foundational health Kate shares about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and the process towards self actualization. How we can simplify health and wellness, making it holistic and realistic Gray area of health and wellness, not going to extremes and also blending together the worlds of Eastern medicine and Western medicine philosophies. How Kate practices wellness without obsession Kate’s favorite Primally Pure products: the gua sha stone, clarifying serum and deodorant. This episode begins with an update on my anti-racism education and what I’m learning. I share about the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings and how I’m learning how the body, and specifically the female body, was objectified and used as justification for slavery (and later became the root of diet culture). I also took at anti-racism course for wellness professionals this week by Chrissy King, where I was reminded of why wellness is for everyone but not always accessible for all because of oppression and discrimination. I learned how to become a better ally and the course helped me put into action changes we will make in my business to ensure we are an ally today and all days going forward. Today’s podcast is a long time coming, we are finally having a conversation about CBD oil!. I first became a fan of CBD oil when I started using it for my dog to improve his anxiety and seizures, and since have used it for the entire family as part of our wellness routines. There’s a lot of misinformation out there about what exactly CBD is (no it won’t make you high!) and sourcing it correctly can be tricky, too. According to a study by the International Journal of Press/Politics, male political journalists based in Washington DC only reply 8.5 per cent of the time to female political journalists. Why is it that female journalists are less influential on Twitter than men in Washington DC and does this relate to a bigger picture here in Australia? Plus, we discuss the Sarah Huckabee Sanders fine-dining debacle at if it’s right for a restaurant to refuse to serve someone of ideological differences. It wouldn’t be a journalist debate without discussing the Natalie Joyce tell-all interview with the Australian Women’s Weekly and also the latest ABC-Government saga.  To discuss these issues are more, we are joined by Tamara Wearne (2GB), Lauren Carroll Harris (The Guardian and ABC’s RN) and Benedict Brook (news.com.au). This episode was hosted and produced by Evangeline Maguire. Fourth Estate is produced by 2SER 107.3 in Sydney and is broadcast across the Community Radio Network in Australia.

Shadowlight: Transformation, Healing, Activism, Mental Health, Mindset, Spirituality, Biohacking, Trauma, Personal Growth

I met Dan Price serendipitously while in Bondi Beach, Australia a few weeks back. The parallels between parts of his own experience and mine really hit home—it was such a reminder that no matter who you are or where you are in the world, mental health, hope, and healing is a story of the human experience. And that story is so important to share (at least with your loved ones). Dan’s darkest and most painful time ultimately led to a journey of healing and finding out who he was and what he wanted in life. After a near suicide attempt on the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and some time recovering in a psych ward, Dan deconstructed and reconstructed his life through multiple healing modalities which helped him face his shadows. Now he has devoted his life to sharing his story in hopes of inspiring other people.   GET YO GREENZ at www.organifishop.com & use the code BRYANNA15 for 15% off!   IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: Dan’s struggle with stress, ADHD, anxiety, and the pressure both from his family and from his own internal high expectations to live life a certain way. The importance of knowing that it’s okay to reach out for help. The exhaustion that comes from fighting the physical and emotional symptoms of depression. Dan’s near suicide attempt on the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and how he healed by rebuilding every aspect of his life completely to give him a sense of purpose. His commitment to share his story and help others let go of stigma, shame, and self-judgment. Many of the different healing treatments he has participated in. What to look for in a therapist (or another healer), and why it is important to not write off treatment because of one bad experience or a misalignment with a healer or healing modality.  The opportunities that have been uncovered for Dan and the doors that opened once he faced his shadows. How Dan now works as a freelancer in the mental health space and has the freedom to help make a change in all arenas — in the educational system, in corporate structures, and for adult men who otherwise may never feel that it’s safe to speak up about their own struggles. His perspective on the difference between mental health care in the US and Australia Plus so much more...   RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Mentioned: Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. I had no education around mental health then."   "I feel that quite often people sit in their diagnosis because it is so relieving at times—like, thank goodness there is something wrong with me that can be diagnosed and then fixed."   "Searching for an outer reach for inner peace; you will never find it."   "Discovering that I want to share my story to help others was bizarre for me because the thing that nearly killed me was the shame."   “Self-honesty is an incredibly powerful tool.”   "We're always thinking that something is either right or wrong, and you know, so often a feeling doesn't need to be right or wrong, it just is."   LET’S CONNECT Website: www.bryannadee.com Instagram: @bryanna_dee Facebook: www.facebook.com/bryannadee Pinterest: www.pinterest.com/bryannadee/
