I'm excited to share our latest episode of the Tech On Toast podcast, where we dive deep into the world of technology in the fine dining industry. This week, we had the pleasure of visiting Benares in Mayfair, a Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, and speaking with Shubham and Mark from TISL. Together, we explored the challenges and triumphs of implementing technology in a bustling restaurant environment. Here are three key takeaways from our conversation that I believe are crucial for anyone in the tech or hospitality sectors:The Importance of Support: One of the standout themes from our discussion was the critical role that support plays in the success of technology implementation. Shubham emphasised how TISSL's support team is always just a phone call away, ready to resolve issues in real-time, even during the busiest hours. This level of accessibility not only alleviates stress but also ensures that operations run smoothly, allowing staff to focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.Simplicity is Key: In a fast-paced environment like a restaurant, simplicity in technology is paramount. Both Shubham and Mark highlighted how TISSL's system is designed to be user-friendly, enabling staff to manage orders and make adjustments quickly, even from their phones. This agility is essential for maintaining efficiency and minimising errors, especially during peak service times. It's a reminder that technology should enhance operations, not complicate them.Building Strong Relationships: The relationship between Benares and TISSL is a testament to the power of collaboration and trust. After a brief period with another provider, Benares returned to TISSL, citing the reliability and support they received as key factors in their decision. This episode reinforces the idea that successful partnerships are built on understanding, communication, and a shared commitment to excellence.I invite you to listen to the full episode to gain deeper insights into how technology can transform the dining experience and the importance of having the right support system in place.Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this episode! Let's continue the conversation about how we can leverage technology to create better experiences in our industries.#TechOnToast #Podcast #Hospitality #Technology #Support #Simplicity #Relationships #FineDining

Ch. 4 - Noble Silence from Journey of Insight Meditation by Eric Lerner BENARES, THE SPIRITUAL CAPITAL of Hinduism, and the site of our next retreat, had been one of the most exciting places I'd visited in India or anywhere else in my travels around the world four years earlier. It's a city of death and rebirth. Pilgrims gather there to bathe away their sins in the holy Ganges River waters and then patiently await the end of this life in order to be cremated beside the Mother of Waters. Saddhus and holy men mingle freely with the poor and the well-to-do. Everyone is a beggar at the end. The fires of cremation along the river banks produce eerie, smoky sunsets while the holy chanting of “Hare Krishna,” “Hare Krishna” goes on night and day. by Eric Lerner 2025 30 minutes 25 seconds Listen to Streaming Audio Your browser does not support the audio element. In her first ever exclusive Young Indy interview, she reminisces about some of her most memorable behind-the-scenes stories from directing Benares, 1910 and Greece, 1910. During this casual and compelling conversation, she discusses why curiosity is the most important aspect of filmmaking, how George Lucas made her realize that intellect and humanity matter more than technicality, and why she decided to change the final scene in the Benares episode at the last second.

"Suspense" was a dynamic series that evolved through several significant phases, each marked by distinct hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Despite these changes, the show maintained a core set of formulaic plot devices that kept its audience consistently engaged. The show's hallmark elements included: Ordinary Protagonists in Extraordinary Situations: The typical protagonist of a "Suspense" episode was an everyday person who found themselves abruptly thrust into a perilous, bizarre, or highly suspenseful situation. This relatable quality made it easy for listeners to connect with the characters. Withheld Solutions: The show was known for building tension by withholding the resolution of the story until the very last possible moment. This strategy ensured that listeners remained on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the outcome. Moral Consequences: "Suspense" often featured stories where evildoers or wrongdoers faced justice in the end. This moral aspect added a layer of satisfaction for the audience, as justice was typically served. The combination of these elements, along with the skillful use of sound effects and music, made "Suspense" a thrilling and unforgettable radio program.

Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrti, the founder and preceptor of Ananda Marga, has said that human culture and civilization would not exist as we know them – perhaps would hardly exist at all – had it not been for Shiva. Shiva played a crucial role in propelling human society on a forward path in education, medicine, social code, music, dance, phonetics and, of course, intuitional science. And yet Shivaʼs stature is such that “Shiva can stand very well, shining in His own glory, quite apart from human culture and civilization.”In the human civilization that Shiva founded, Shivaʼs name lives on. It permeates the waking hours, from earliest infancy up until the final curtain, of nearly a fourth of the earthʼs human population. Yet the actual life of this great personality has long been lost to view, hidden under layer upon layer of myth. Many, for example, worship Shiva as a god, but fail to recognize Shiva as an historical person. The author of Namah Shiváya Shántáya (“Salutations to Shiva the Tranquil”) removes the veils of seven thousand years of history, to reveal Shiva the great spiritualist, Shiva the humanitarian, Shiva the pioneer of arts and science. He felt great compassion for those afflicted people and, making them sit beside Him, advised them how to solve their physical, psychic and spiritual problems. Shiva used to live on a hill, and all kinds of people from far and near would flock to Him. He would call them with… His viśáńa, His long horn…Of the twenty discourses that constitute Namah Shiváya Shántáya, the first eight were given by the author in Calcutta as pravacans, or speeches (mostly at weekly intervals), in April and May, 1982. These eight were recorded on tape. The series (sometimes referred to by the author as a work of “Shivology”) then resumed in Patna in the form of dictations given throughout June and July. The concluding dictation was given in Kashi, adjoining Benares, on August 13. All the speeches and dictations were given in Bengali. The first editions of Namah Shiváya Shántáya, both in Bengali and in English, came out in 1982. The English Second Edition, in 1985, was a reprint of the English First Edition. In 1993, Discourse 1 and parts of Discourses 2, 4 and 5-8 were retranslated, closely following the 1982 translation, by Ácárya Vijayánanda Avadhúta and Ácárya Acyutánanda Avadhúta, for the English book Discourses on Tantra Volume One. In a similar way, the present Third Edition closely follows the 1982 or, where applicable, the 1993 translation. (Discourse 15 appears just as in the 1982 translation, and Discourse 1 just as in the 1993 translation.)

Leaning Temple of Rateneshwar, Varanasi Also known as Matri-rin Mahadev or Kashi Karvat, Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple has to be one of the most photographed temples in the holy city of Banaras. An image of this temple is almost guaranteed to appear in any promotional materials about the ancient city, it is probably the most recognisable monument along the ghats for foreign visitors. The location of this temple is also a curious one. Rather than being built at a higher level and protected from the high flood waters of the Ganga during the monsoon season, it appears that the builders made a conscious decision to construct the temple in a location where for many months of the year it would be partially underwater.Today it would be all too easy to assume that the location of this temple and its leaning aspect is an anomaly, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise. Many paintings of the ghats from the early to mid 19th century depict leaning temples close to the Ganga, so it would appear that Ratneshwar Mahadev is now a lone survivor of this phenomenon. We also have documentary evidence of these leaning temples. The artist William Daniell writing in The Oriental Annual in 1834 observed : One of the most extraordinary objects to be witnessed at Benares and which is generally one of great curiosity to the stranger, is a pagoda standing in the river, there is nothing to connect it with the shore. The whole foundation is submerged, and two of the towers have declined so much out of the perpendicular as to form an acute angle with liquid plain beneath them….It has been surmised, and with probability, that this temple was originally erected upon the bank of the river, which then offered a firm and unsuspected foundation ..During the Winter and Spring months the water levels of the great Ganga are low enough to permit access without getting your feet wet. It's worth a quick exploration, there's some nice carvings that have remained in remarkably good condition considering the length of time this temple is submerged each year The claim is true. The Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is situated at Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi. The temple has developed a nine-degree slant. It is also referred to as Kashi Karvat (Kashi is the ancient name for Varanasi and karvat means leaning in Hindi). A Times Now report said that one of the beliefs held regarding the temple is that the ‘ghat' had collapsed and leaned backwards after not being able to withstand its weight. The temple supposedly stood straight before the 1860s. An Indian Travel Photography Blog, Kevin Standage, stated that the temple is famous for having a tilt of about nine degrees. Below are screenshots from the blog which shows the temple from varied angles:. The Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as Matri-rin Mahadev or Kashi Karvat, is a well-known temple in the holy city of Varanasi. It is a popular tourist attraction and is often featured in promotional materials for the city. The temple's unique location is also of interest, as it was built partially underwater for many months of the year. Although this may seem unusual, there is evidence to suggest that this was not uncommon for temples along the Ganga in the 19th century. In fact, many paintings from the early to mid-19th century depict leaning temples close to the river. One such temple was described in detail by the artist William Daniell in The Oriental Annual in 1834. He observed that the temple was standing in the river without any connection to the shore, and two of its towers had declined so much out of the perpendicular that they formed an acute angle with the liquid plain beneath them. He surmised that the temple was originally erected on the riverbank when it offered a firm and unsuspected foundation. The Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple is situated at Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi, and has a nine-degree slant. It is believed that the ghat collapsed and leaned backwards after being unable to withstand the temple's weight. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ramanispodcast/message

A selection of Kabir poems for meditation taken from the following website: https://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/Poets/K/Kabir/index.html#PoemList Though little is known of the life of the 15th-century Indian mystic and poet Kabir, it is believed he was born in or near Benares. He grew up in a family of Muslim weavers before becoming a disciple of the Hindu ascetic Ramananda. Kabir is considered both a Sufi and Brahmin saint. His poetry draws on both Hinduism and Islam, though he was critical of certain aspects of both faiths. Some of his verses are included in the compilation of Sikh scriptures known as the Adi Granth. His mystical poems are grounded in the details and earthly particulars of everyday life. Kabir is not easily categorized as a Sufi or a Yogi -- he is all of these. He is revered by Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs. He stands as a unique, saintly, yet very human, bridge between the great traditions that live in India. Kabir says of himself that he is, "at once the child of Allah and Ram".

While researching material for article on the presence of Sanatana Dharma in the Americas,I chanced upon an article which mentions Pyramid Temple at Benares, Varanasi. The temple was called Bidh Madhu. It seems to have been destroyed by the Mughals(?) In the seventh century AD. I am unable to get additional information on this. ( In the process I came across some new information about the temples destroyed by Mughals. I will be sharing it shortly.) I have been wondering about, 1. Though Hindus, Egyptians and People of Central America,Mayans worshipped Sun in the days, the temples dedicated to Sun differ in design. Temples in India may not look like Pyramids, they do resemble Pyramids. 2. Of twenty sacred sites around the world, seven are from Hinduism. ‘One such is the fact that twenty sites in the world lie in the same Latitude and the distance between them represent the Golden Means/ Fibonacci number..' One such is the fact that twenty sites in the world lie in the same Latitude and the distance between them represent the Golden Mean' https://ramanan50.wordpress.com/2016/03/09/twenty-world-spiritual-sites-same-latitude-seven-hinduism/ 2. Benares , Varanasi is the oldest continuously Lived City in the world. 3. Appropriate Bhagavad Gita Verse in Egyptian Pyramids. In one of the Pyramids, dating back to 3000 BC, a verse, from the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita was found inscribed. Here it is: https://ramanan50.wordpress.com/2014/12/08/appropriate-bhagavad-gita-verse-in-egyptian-pyramid/ 4.Shiva Linga design in Mexico city, Vatican City. https://ramanan50.wordpress.com/2018/09/10/shiva-lingam-design-teotihuacan-temple-mexico-vatican-city/ 5.Temples for Gadothgaja, Hanuman are found in Central America. 6 Chicken Itza temple resembled.Madurai Meenakshi Temple,India . https://ramanan50.wordpress.com/2018/09/10/shiva-lingam-design-teotihuacan-temple-mexico-vatican-city/ 7. The design of the top of Angkorvat has Sreechakra . The design of the temple A Hindu temple more inclined to be a Pyramid. 8.Meru ,used in the worship of Devi is a Pyramid. Would some reader throw light on the temple of Bid Madhu at Varanasi? The spelling of Bidh Madhu might not be correct. Mrs. Zelia Nuttal (1857 -1933) Archaeologist and ethnologist has said: “No country in the world can compare with India for the exposition of the pyramidal cross. the body of the great temple of Bidh Madhu (formerly the boast of the ancient city of Benares…demolished in the 7th century) was constructed in the figure of a colossal cross, with a lofty dome at the center, above which rose a massive structure of a pyramidal form. At the four extremities of the cross there were four other pyramids…A similar building existed at Mathura. By pyramidal towers placed crosswise, the Hindu also displayed the all-pervading sign of the cross. At the famous temple of Chidambaram, on the Coromandel coast, there were seven lofty walls, one within the other, round a central quadrangle, and as many pyramidal gateways in the midst of each side which forms the limbs of a vast cross https://ramanisblog.in/2019/01/07/pyramid-temple-varanasi/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message

First, Orson Welles takes a cross-country road trip in "The Hitch-hiker" (originally aired on CBS on September 2, 1943), followed by "The Kettler Method," a tale set in an insane asylum on a dark and stormy night (originally aired on CBS on September 16, 1943). Then, Paul Stewart investigates a murder in Trinidad in "A Passage to Benares" (originally aired on CBS on September 23, 1942) and a young man tries to stay alive to win big money in "Will You Make a Bet with Death?" (originally aired on CBS on November 10, 1942). Finally, Peter Lorre is a jealous husband with murder on his mind in "Till Death Do Us Part" (originally aired on CBS on December 15, 1942) and Bela Lugosi is a scientist with a plan to create murderers in "The Doctor Prescribed Death" (originally aired on CBS on February 2, 1943).

A reading of two Saint Kabir poems intended for contemplation and meditation. Translated by Robert Bly. Though little is known of the life of the 15th-century Indian mystic and poet Kabir, it is believed he was born in or near Benares.

This week Hyperion is back, as Sam delves into part four of the 1989 Dan Simmons epic novel. As the pilgrims continue their journey, they depart the venerable Benares and take off on a windwagon across the Sea of Grass. After Brawne almost kills Martin due to him being so annoying, Sol decides it's a good time to tell his story. Sol grew up on an unimportant and small Hegemony world as a scholar, meeting his wife Sarai at school. They had a storybook romance and, after five years of trying, had their perfect daughter Rachel. And if you don't think that's a setup for tragedy, then you haven't been paying attention to this book. After Rachel starts a graduate program in archeology she decides to do a study on, where else, but Hyperion of course. While inside the Sphinx one night something happens to Rachel and the next thing she knows she's in a hospital and her parents are there telling her she's aging backwards and slowly losing her memories day by day. Sol and Sarai do everything they can to try and help Rachel, but none of the doctors have any idea how to treat her "Merlin sickness". As she grow younger, Rachel eventually decides to stop being told about her illness and asks her parents to just let her believe she's living in whatever past day she thinks it is. Meanwhile, Sol is having dreams about a mysterious voice demanding he take Rachel to Hyperion and make a burnt offering of her, something that Sol categorically refuses, because of course he does, and Sol will continue to engage with what he thinks is god in long, esoteric ethical arguments, as you do. Sol and Sarai do their best as they watch their child slowly regress from the adult they raised to the child she was, losing herself along the way, and boy, this story is sad, sorry about that. On the bright side, Sam does a pretty cool Shrike voice and Danielle learns more bird facts, so get ready for one heck of an episode!

Buddhism Buddhism began in India during late 500 BCE from the teachings of a prince named Siddhartha Gautama who later came to be known as Gautama Buddha, meaning ‘enlightened one'. The religion is based upon the teachings, life experiences of its founder Siddhartha Gautam, born in circa 563 BCE.At the age of 29, Gautama left home and rejected his life of riches and embraced a lifestyle of asceticism, or extreme self-discipline. After 49 consecutive days of meditation, Gautama attained Bodhi (enlightenment) under a pipal tree at Bodhgaya a village in Bihar. Buddha gave his first sermon in the village of Sarnath, near the city of Benares in UP. This event is known as Dharma-Chakra-Pravartana (turning of the wheel of law). He died at the age of 80 in 483 BCE at a place called Kushinagara a town in UP. The event is known as Mahaparinibban. Four noble truths: 1. Suffering (dukkha) is the essence of the world. 2. Every suffering has a cause – Samudya. 3. Suffering could be extinguished – Nirodha. 4. It can be achieved by following the Atthanga Magga (Eight Fold Path). Right Thought: a genuine wish to break free from desire 3. Right Speech: controlling one's speech so that it does not harmothers. Buddhists will avoid lying or gossip 4. Right Action: avoiding actions that are harmful to oneself or anyother living creature 5. Right Livelihood: earning a living in a way that does not causeharm or suffering to others. This involves avoiding professionsthat create or distribute weapons, that promote intoxication, orthat involve the slaughter of animals 6. Right Effort: paying attention continually to one's lifestyle 7. Right Mindfulness: constant awareness about the effects ofone's actions so as to avoid causing harm 8. Dharmo Rakshati Rakshita धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः

Shah Jahan's court historian Abdul Hamid Lahori recorded in his Padshahnama (Chronicle of the Emperor) the emperor's swift action in 1633 against Hindus who tried to build new temples to replace the many that Muslims had destroyed: “It had been brought to the notice of His Majesty that during the late reign many idol temples had been begun, but remained unfinished at Benares, the great stronghold of infidelism. The infidels were now desirous of completing them. His Majesty, the defender of the faith, gave orders that at Benares, and throughout all his dominions at every place, all temples that had been begun should be cast down. It was now reported from the province of Allahabad that 76 temples had been destroyed in the district of Benares.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bharatpodcast/message
