Welcome to The Wild Life! On today's episode, we have a fascinating guest: wildlife cinematographer Jake Davis.Jake's career began by focusing on the wildlife of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Growing up, he spent his summers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the Teton Range's jagged peaks and abundant wildlife fostered a deep love for nature and a desire to share and preserve it. Today, while Jake travels the globe to film the stories of vulnerable wildlife, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem remains his home.As a cinematographer, Jake works on natural history productions for renowned platforms like BBC, National Geographic, Disney, Netflix, and Apple. Most recently, he spent five months filming snow leopards in Mongolia for the third installment of BBC's famous series "Planet Earth.” His recent work has been part of a series nominated for a 2023 Emmy and for Best Cinematography at the prestigious Jackson Wild Film Festival.Jake's work incorporates diverse filming techniques, including long lens, drone, and gimbals, but he is best known for his novel approach to filming wildlife with high-tech camera traps. He also created the world's first collection of wildlife Ambrotypes, featuring images on glass plates. Among his accolades, Jake was a 2019 finalist in the renowned Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition held by the London Natural History Museum, and his work has been displayed at the Smithsonian in the Exhibition of Nature's Best Photography. His nature greeting card line is sold in stores across the western United States, including REIs and the Yellowstone stores. In this episode, we discuss the importance of understanding animal behavior and ecology to capture the perfect shot and effectively tell their stories. We explore the future and potential of artificial intelligence in wildlife filmmaking, the "chicken or the egg" question of wildlife cinematography, and the challenges of working off-grid. Jake shares his experiences with camera traps, the heart-wrenching decisions of the footage chopping block, and how to craft compelling narratives without words.Join us for an in-depth conversation that highlights the blend of artistry and science required to bring the wild to our screens. Ranking on Google is a goal for every photographer–after receiving a few photography website SEO tips to understand how important it really is. When Marcella came to me as a newbie photographer in 2021, she had heard of SEO–search engine optimization. Still, she didn't know what to do with the information she had. By the time our year together in coaching was up, she was ranking for the main keywords in her area. And last year, she even booked out her fall schedule. The year before, she only booked two clients! Who is Marcella of Love & Sunshine Photography? Marcella is the sweetest soul with the cutest family. As a wife and a mom( of the cutest toddler boy)–you can hear him playing in the background throughout this interview–she knows how important memories are. That's the main reason she started her photography business. She owns Love & Sunshine Photography of Calgary, Alberta. Her mission is to help women who love deeply turn fading memories into beautiful imagery that helps celebrate all the love & sunshine in their lives. She booked out her schedule with these photography website SEO Tips. One of the most important photography website SEO tips Marcella used was how to decide on her main keyword, which was "Calgary lifestyle photographer." Once she knew what keyword she needed to use, she strategically placed it on her website to help her rank.  And then, she started blogging using my TLC Blog Formula. This formula lays out exactly how and where to use your keywords strategically throughout a blog to help it rank.  And it definitely helped her rank.  Two years ago, she was nowhere to be found on Google. Last year, she was on page 1! She said she booked about 30% of her clients from one blog post. There seemed to be a massive difference in the type of clientele from Google vs. social media. The ones from Google were ready to book immediately. Instagram leads need to be talked into booking.  Relevant Links: Show Notes My Instagram Join Forever Booked Out! Born and raised in Alabama, Madolyn has lived in Atlanta, Georgia long enough to consider herself a native. She received her first “real” camera from her uncle at the age of thirteen, but it wasn't until many years later that she focused on her passion for the art form and decided to get serious about her work. Madolyn has been selected for several exhibitions in Atlanta and across the country, including becoming a fixture at the Dragon Con Art Show, where she won Best Photography in 2018 and Best Photography/Digital Art in 2019. Welcome to episode 233 of F-Stop Collaborate and Listen! This week on the podcast I was joined by Jess Findlay, a wildlife and landscape photographer from Vancouver British Columbia.  Jess spent his childhood hiking and birdwatching with his family, throughout the Pacific Northwest through which his passion for photography was born. In 2011, Jess was awarded the International Youth Photographer of the Year award from Nature's Best Photography; prompting him to take this serious hobby to the next level. Since then, Jess has gone on to be awarded in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, among other accolades. Photography has brought him deep into the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest and beyond where he also engages in mind-boggling mountaineering adventures, which we discuss at length this week. On today's podcast we covered a wide array of topics that you'll hopefully enjoy. We discuss: The linkage between challenging photography locations and our appreciation for natural photographs, The double-edged sword of pre-visualization, The role of curiosity in Jess' image-making, Philosophical approaches to photo editing, And a lot more! In this episode, Corey shares many insights about his journey of discovering climbing at the early age of 13. He talks about how he has been lucky to be able to combine both of his passions, climbing and photography, to create a fulfilling career. Corey shares a very real look into his journey and how things changed once he had a daughter. He pulls back the curtain and talks about what is involved in pursuing opportunities to shoot stunning visual pictures. Corey Rich loves to tell stories. He's a photographer and a director from South Lake Tahoe who has been documenting adventure sports for over three decades. He's been taking climbing pictures since he was 13 years old, and over the years his work has helped define the genre of adventure photography in both the editorial and commercial spaces. You've seen a lot of his pictures, in magazines, ads, catalogs, and online. You may also be familiar with his work as a director; he has shot commercials for some of the world's biggest companies. But his archive of adventure photography contains many stories that you probably don't know. He's written a book called Stories Behind the Images. It's a book that gives insight into what it means to create a career doing something you love, and how success is all about building great, lasting relationships in business and in life.He lives with his wife, Marina, daughter, Leila, and dog, Preta, in South Lake Tahoe. To follow his work and adventures, you can find him here:Corey's WebsiteFollow Corey on IGFollow Candace on Instagram

The guys discuss something of great interest to many of our listeners - where to take the best photos in Bangkok. Ed begins by discussing main tourist attractions such as temples; they have been photographed millions of times, but if you aren’t looking for something unique, Bangkok’s disparate temples are a great place to practice. For something a little out of the way, Ed also recommends a trip to Ayutthaya for a ‘mini-Angkor’ experience, which, while also over-photographed, is something special for the noobie. Greg chimes in with a vote for Talad Noi, his old stomping ground, which is filled with odd architecture, abandoned vehicles, industrial equipment, and a vibe right out of Blade Runner (especially when it rains). Ed next points out that Bangkok’s skies can provide dramatic photographs, both at sunup and sundown, and during storms, (partially due to the air pollution), but who are we to question where beauty comes from? Greg puts a vote in for Phahurat (aka Little India), and most especially the gnarled mass of sois behind a large Sikh temple, amidst other photo ops. Ed also suggests the back of Benjasiri Park, where some great action shots can be grabbed of the takraw players there. To close, a discussion of Bangkok’s coolest architecture, including a few iconic buildings and bridges that lend themselves to some dramatic vistas. Did we miss any? What’s your favorite place in Bangkok to snap a few awesome photos? As always, the podcast will continue to be 100% funded by listeners just like you who get some special swag from us. And we’ll keep our Facebook, Twitter, and LINE accounts active so you can send us comments, questions, or whatever you want to share.
