Andrea Navedo is a Bronx-born-and-raised Puerto Rican American actress best known for her role as Xiomara, a complex and genuine Latina on the CW's Golden Globe-nominated television series 'Jane the Virgin.' Navedo received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Jane's loving and outgoing mother. Navedo is the recipient of the Imagen Award for Best Supporting TV Actress, as well as the Elizabeth Peña Breakthrough Artist Award. She can currently be seen recurring in the ABC series 'A Million Little Things.' Navedo's most recent film credits include Netflix's 'Bright' opposite Will Smith and the indie films for Hulu 'Miguel Wants to Fight' & HBO Max's 'B-Loved' coming Feb.14, 2023. Andrea Navedo didn't see many positive portrayals of Latinas in the media growing up. So when she had the chance to play a starring role in Jane the Virgin as a complex, flawed, and genuine Latina single mother, she jumped at it. Now, she shares bits of her story of growing up in ‘da South Bronx—boogie down, burning”—to inspire young people who grew up like she did and who, after being counted out, still strive to succeed. Her book Our Otherness Is Our Strength: Wisdom from the Boogie Down Bronx is out now.  In this week's episode, Andrea tells us all about how she defied stereotypes and helped bring a well-rounded Latin character to Hollywood. After surviving the burning Bronx and pushing through stereotypical Latin rules, Andrea landed the role of the beloved Xiomara and changed how Latinos are perceived on American TV forever. Are you ready to reclaim your identity and reignite that spark of joy? Then buckle up because today's guest, Andrea Navedo, is about to change your life! You may know Andrea from her role in 'Jane the Virgin', but her real-life journey is even more inspiring. She battled through fears, fought the  inner negative voices, and emerged as the powerful, authentic, badass.  Today, she's here to share her story and empower you to do the same. In this episode, we dive right into the guilt of choosing yourself - we tend to rank all of our other roles to everyone else over ourselves on a daily basis.  But guess what? Your needs matter too! We'll explore how to combat fear, silence the negative chatter in your head, and stop using family and responsibilities as an excuse not to chase your dreams. And if you're looking for a game-changing strategy, wait till you hear Andrea's super tactical trick for using the Power of Regret as a powerful motivator for success. So, are you ready to break free from the 'Nice Girl' habits, set boundaries, and start prioritizing YOU? Trust me, Andrea's story is so relatable, and her tactics are incredibly actionable. This episode is a true dose of inspiration, empowerment, and total badassery.  Let's do this journey together and ask ourselves one simple question today. Hollywood always wants to have its own way though, and Arthur Baker's Breakers Revenge became iconic despite that overruling. That factoid is one of many that I forgot to offload during this episode. I was delirious about doing Beat Street for weeks and still couldn't get it right. Kool Moe Dee making his first appearance on film in the Christmas Rap with the Treacherous Three, sans his trademark sunglasses that never came off again. Let's just say that I couldn't hit the ass end of a bull with a hand full of sand. It went on and on and on, reminiscing in our nostalgic glow over a movie that felt like an artifact-like documentary of a golden era. Admiring one of the only truly American art forms beyond jazz. Created partly due to a lack of access to the disco phenomenon during a particularly bleak time in New York City. The Boogie Down Bronx is a real thing, and 1520 Sedgwick Avenue is its mecca. 0:09 - This is the game where a woman from Alabama wins 2.1 million dollars from Walmart. Where the Broad Street Bully, Beenie Siegel is open for business, the nickname consultation business. And where 50 Cent just might of found his next protege in the Boogie Down Bronx.8:25 - Intro now let's take off10:02 - We start with something I wrote and a public announcement to all the listeners regarding the identity of The Late Night Flight. What is TLNF? Why TLNF? Should you listen to TLNF? The Pilot answer those questions. The Pilot also uses a soundbite from NBC/MLB Network Broadcaster Bob Costas to explain the blindspots of agism and racism when it comes to our new breed of Young Black Leadership. And by Young Black Leader, I'm talking LeBron James. And Ri Ri.... But LeBron talk on this segment lol.23:24 - And we go. A story about a mild lust for a barber who happens to be a woman lol. The Pilot gives us a 8 min painting on what his single life looks like. Also, the new streaming app Thriller is giving out one year $2,000 contracts with an extra $2,000 in equity to Black Content Creators. Sounds good but the only two people with contracts so far is a boxer who is signed to Team Mayweather with 7.1 million Tik Tok followers, and a former credited songwriter who played for Virginia college Old Dominion when they were ranked top ten n the country. Is this false advertising and hope young content creators? Or just great promotion by Thriller dangling the carrot of "ownership" to Black America because you know we want to own everything lol.39:26 - SALUTE to Councilman Frank Educational Gilmore becoming the happy ending version to POWER lol. If you haven't heard of this man, go to his instagram, or listen to the "For The Stress Podcast" for all your local Jersey City news, thoughts, and music conversations (They're on apple podcasts and spotify). This is a good segment for young politicians who want to know how to become "likable" in today's political climate.48:51 - The Queen of Gossip Radio, Wendy Williams, birthed a nation of female podcasters who does the their take on Wendy Williams gossip style poorly. Meanwhile, Dr. Dre and Xzibit are going through their divorce healing process and when you're a millionaire, you can heal in style. You can sell t-shirts and make money lol. Don't believe me, Google "Dr. Dre X and N.W.D. shirts." But "healing" has also birthed the "Black Man Heal" podcast which is a poorly presented podcast by Black Male Hosts. They never stay on topic, and the one who always want to play therapist, is usually the one that needs therapy. If this is a Black Man's angle to reach women, you're better off just lying. It worked for us before. lolAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

When Lenny Grullon and Jean Paul (JP) Fontana, former basketball players from the Bronx, founded the Boogie Down Bronx Runners in 2017, they were their group's only members. It took a few tries, but soon a few people showed up, including Chris Guzman, who wanted to get healthy and model an active lifestyle for his son. Today, the three of them lead well over 100 members, including 50 marathoners, throughout the Bronx, going beyond Van Cortlandt Park to Pelham Bay Park and down to the South Bronx. Their runs are inclusive by design, so that beginners feel welcome alongside experienced racers, and embrace the community, showing that running is happening in the Bronx, and not just with fast white guys. With a budding partnership with Nike and a raucous cheering section at mile 20 of the New York City Marathon, which returns this Sunday for its 50th anniversary after a pandemic hiatus, the Boogie Down Bronx runners show how investing in your community takes time, effort, dedication, and love — and pays off big time. Join Lenny, Chris, and JP for an inside look at how it happened and where it's going, on the first episode of season two of Let's Get Uncomfortable. (Note: JP had to leave the live recording but chimed back in for the hot mic segment.)

I didn’t really care what I looked like...From like 22 to 34, health just wasn’t a real priority for me...How I felt about myself physically wasn’t something I cared about but it should have been. I came to realize that as I got older and when I hit 240 pounds on the scale.” Lenny Grullon is one of the founders of the Boogie Down Bronx Runners, which is a group that comes out in full force at the New York City Marathon. Although he produced only a handful of tracks of renown and disappeared into obscurity almost as quickly as he had emerged from it, Manny ( Man ) Parrish is nonetheless one of the most important and influential figures in American electronic dance music. Helping to lay the foundation of electro, hip-hop, freestyle, and techno, as well as the dozens of subgenres to splinter off from those, Parrish introduced the aesthetic of European electronic pop to the American club scene by combining the plugged-in disco-funk of Giorgio Moroder and the man-machine music of Kraftwerk with the beefed-up rhythms and cut'n'mix approach of nascent hip-hop. As a result, tracks like "Hip-Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)" and "Boogie Down Bronx" were period-defining works that provided the basic genetic material for everyone from Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys to Autechre and Andrea Parker -- and they remain undisputed classics of early hip-hop and electro to this day.
