Jesse Starcher, Robert Cooper, Mik Wanamaker and Mark Radulich present their Gwar Band Career Retrospective Review as part of the MHOD Jukebox!Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists, and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. Since the death of frontman Dave Brockie in 2014, the collective has continued recording and performing without any of its founding artists or musicians.Identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar's core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric medieval nordic, mythological, biblical or interplanetary warriors, a narrative which serves as the basis for all of the band's albums, live shows and media. With over-the-top violent, sexual, and scatological humor typically incorporating social and political satire, Gwar has attracted both acclaim and controversy for its music and stage shows, the latter of which notoriously showcase enactments of graphic violence that result in the audience being sprayed with fake blood, urine, and semen. Such stagecraft regularly leads Gwar to be labeled a "shock rock" band by the media.Since its formation, Gwar has released 15 studio albums, two live albums, and numerous singles among other recordings, and has sold over 820,000 records in the United States. Fueled largely by the controversies surrounding their concerts, Gwar experienced brief mainstream notoriety during the first half of the 1990s, receiving regular airplay on MTV as well as frequent in-character guest appearances on daytime talk shows, satirizing the topics of censorship and media violence. Though the band's mainstream popularity declined by the end of the 1990s, Gwar has retained a dedicated cult following. The band's extensive videography consists of both live recordings and long-form feature films, most notably 1992's Phallus in Wonderland, which earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Long Form Music Video. Gwar has also expanded its brand into other areas such as books, comic books board games, beer, whisky, barbecue sauce, CBD, e-liquids, toy collectibles, and sex toys.Intro Video 1: GWAR - Fuck This Place (OFFICIAL VIDEO) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE6lohKcDmQ Gwar history discussion Video 2: GWAR - Have You Seen Me ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ_bSFbE28Q Gwar discography discussion Jesse's video Static-X - I'm With Stupid (Official Music Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqiVvOXotyw 10 Best GWAR Songs https://loudwire.com/best-gwar-songs/ Osamenta - Bahia Mortal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvvVztn7VH8 OutroDisclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, GWAR quickly gained a reputation for their unique blend of heavy metal, punk rock, and shock rock theatrics. At the core of GWAR's image are their elaborate costumes and grotesque characters, including Oderus Urungus, Beefcake the Mighty, and Jizmak Da Gusha. These characters, often depicted as monstrous and otherworldly beings, engage in outlandish and often violent stage antics, spewing fake blood and various fluids onto their audience. While GWAR's stage show and shock value are undeniably attention-grabbing, their music should not be overlooked. Combining aggressive guitar riffs, pounding drums, and catchy hooks, GWAR's sound is a potent mix of thrash metal, punk energy, and humorous lyrics. Songs like "Sick of You," "Immortal Corrupter," and "Bring Back the Bomb" showcase the band's raw power and satirical wit.Throughout their career, GWAR has amassed a dedicated and loyal fan base, known as the "Scumdogs of the Universe." The band's live shows are legendary spectacles, drawing fans from all over the world who eagerly participate in the chaotic and messy experience. GWAR's music and stage presence have influenced numerous bands in the metal and punk genres, and their impact on the underground music scene is undeniable.Sadly, GWAR has faced its share of tragedy, including the death of founding member and frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) in 2014. However, the band has persevered, continuing to tour and release albums, with new members taking up the mantle and carrying on the legacy.GWAR's legacy as a band that pushes boundaries, both musically and visually, continues to resonate with fans who appreciate their irreverent humor, theatrical performances, and unapologetic approach to heavy music. Que paso, tonto? In 1999, gore-metal band GWAR released the song "Fishfuck". The song is deeply profound and often considered to be a quintessential modern poem. On May 23, 2014 the composer said epic, Dave Brockie, passed away from a heroin overdose. In remembrance of the seven year anniversary of Dave's passing, we are doing the best (only?) movie we could find just BURSTING with fish fucking. Sadly no river carps will be shoved up any butts, as mentioned in Fishfuck, but it's pretty darn close. Put some soy sauce on your sushi roll, we're talking 1980's Humanoids From The Deep.   It doesn't hurt to ask. Sometimes the most beautiful girls are the loneliest. Scumdogs of The Universe was released on January 8th, 1990 and the reaction would be immediate, the Slave Pit team that created this ultra offensive metal band of space aliens would get reactions from all. Dave Brockie would lead the charge and continue to create art that disturbed, took no prisoner, and took a made as laugh at everything wrong. The concept of GWAR would truly take perseverance through the years and as each album release would continue, line ups would change, musical trends would change, but there was only one GWAR, and only one Dave Brockie. The alter ego of Oderus Urungus would take on a life of its own and 30 years later the legacy of what was created at Richmond Dairy and its mastermind that kept it alive still stand true. In what may be the most important conversation you'll ever hear on THE MOVIE CRYPT, addiction counselor Terry Kirkman (A.I.R. Support) sat down with us to get real about the subject of addiction. After meeting so many artists who have struggled with substance abuse in their own lifetimes and after losing our dear friend and brother Dave Brockie to heroin in 2014, we wanted to speak with an expert in the field and gain a better understanding of the illness. We also hoped to help our audience members who may be battling addiction (or who may know someone else who is) and show them that there is truly a light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. The response to this episode continues to overwhelm us to this very day. Who knows? Perhaps bringing this special episode out of the vault and back into the light may help save even more lives than it did back in 2015 when it originally aired? We can only hope so. There are only 2 weeks left in THE MOVIE CRYPT's limited "Hall Of Fame" series! Don't miss out on the hundreds of other incredible conversations from our back catalogue! There's a lot of heaviness on today's Talkin' Rock podcast. Thrash drumming legend, Dave Lombardo is up first, then, Mobile Deathcamp guitarist/singer, former GWAR bassist, Todd Evans is up second.  We start out talking to Dave about the film he scored, and if he envisions himself ever getting offstage and just doing that. We talk about other rock documentaries and his thoughts on some of them. I ask him if he's going to the final Slayer show, what it's like to work with Mike Patton, the strangest collaboration he's been in - and he's been in a few. I asked him about his thoughts on Ginger Baker, Vinnie Paul and Dimebag & the Clash of the Titans tour. Has he turned any bands down?  Up next it's Todd Evans. He's in a band called Mobile Deathcamp and also played in GWAR, and he has stories! We talk about when we met at a Gary Holt guitar clinic. He tells the story of joining GWAR as Beefcake the Mighty. He was in the band from 2002-2008 and the love/hate relationship he had with the band. He talks a lot about Dave Brockie and what a character he was. He recalls he first gig with the band and playing his bass with all the gear on. He remembers when he heard the news that Brockie had passed, or "left the building" as Todd says. Todd gets us up-to-date on Mobile Deathcamp and what they have going on. He's got so many stories that he will be back on the pod..... Mike and I also discuss the bands legacy and moving forward after the loss of Dave Brockie as well as Cory Smoot. Plus we discuss Creepshow 3, not spoiling movies back in the day as well as a rundown of the many different people we've met at conventions over the years. And as we cover the most jarring moment of your life, we also cover… Felissa Rose, some kind of zombie-robot, cats will suck your breath out, he’s hilarious as a trainwreck, more boils and ooze-iness, there’s a hot dog involved, it ate two of my tapes, Daniel Roebuck, Holliston, don’t be stupid I’m a radio, The Raft, they decide to find all the working bits in the perfect woman, that’s the end of the season arch that didn’t quite get filmed, you have to know the face that accompanied it, at one point he stabs the homeless ghost, Deadbeat, the muscle-calf lady, a tulle dress, students from the local arts college, converting footage into digital the old fashioned way, it looks like a rubber mask, I’m just still dancing, Gil and Kelly from Kids Club, written by 5th graders, A. J. Bowen, I’m having a flashback, Dave Brockie, wet or dry… it depends on what you are looking for, Giorgio Tsoukalos, being pregnant, and the next thing you know she’s a rabbit, Adam Green, Costas Mandylor, skills at taping stuff back together and the magic of Hollywood… and selfies. Spoiler Alert: We keep from spoiling Sleepaway Camp as well as all of Shawnee’s films… but we have no problem spoiling all of Creepshow 3. So beware as you listen to that segment. “One night he called at like 11 o’clock, ‘say Shawnee… come downstairs, get in the white limo’. And I came downstairs, and I get in the white limo, and it’s him and Bon Jovi… the whole band. And we went out like, you know, bar-hopping in Canada. The night ended with him on-stage singing the blues. I was pretty epic.” For more info on ScareFest, go to: http://www.thescarefest.com/

36 Crazyfists vocalist Brock Lindow guests on the podcast this week to talk about the band's new album Time and Trauma and their upcoming tour with Nonpoint. Brock is not only the frontman of 36 Crazyfists, but he is also the father to a five-year-old, he's started his own hockey-themed sports bar, he co-hosts a podcast about craft beer and he's an all-around hard working dude. Chuck and Godless speculate whether Marty Freidman's alleged re-addition to Megadeth would have really been a "step back" for him or if he's missing a big opportunity. The mighty Gwar's legal woes became very complicated this week when a lawsuit brought by the father of late lead singer Dave Brockie came to light, but the band vehemently denied the accusations and have handled it all perfectly.

It may not seem to make much sense that our humble little sports car podcast is chatting with one of America's foremost heavy metal icons this week. But, we are. After our chat with GWAR frontman Dave Brockie, though, we realized that what he does and what we do really aren't all that different. Sure we don't spray fake blood all over people at Road Atlanta, but the spirit of making the most of your resources and passionately pursuing your craft is one that resonates whether you're an underground metal sensation, or an independent sports car magazine. Even if you're not a GWAR fan, we think you'll see a kindred spirit. PS, this episode contains a few salty words. It's really not gratuitously offensive, though, but we left the conversation as-is because it all flows quite nicely.

What an episode of the Metal Injection Livecast this was! We kicked things off with Rob describing a stoned excursion to buy clothes for the metal cruise, which we then spent a good amount of time talking about. Rob and Noa discussed what they are looking forward to and then predicted what sort of live blogging they would be doing. (Sidenote: We will be liveblogging from the cruise all next week.) After that we spent some time discussing a procedure Noa is considering. We took a music break and returned with a new soundbite that Sid and 3D discovered of Rush Limbaugh and it was immediately inducted into our Soundbite Hall of Fame, by which we mean we played it for 10 minutes straight with other soundbites. It was awesome. We spent some time discussing Nergal's recent recovery and how what a typical day in his life is like nowadays. We then listened to some music from Nergal's current girlfriend, Doda. Up next was a Livecast Metal News Update. Somehow that spawned a conversation about the ethnicity of Alex Skolnick. Following the second music break, we were joined by the one and only Oderus Urungus of GWAR. To say Oderus was incredibly intoxicated would be a huge understatement. It began with twenty minutes of complete randomness that made very little sense. It was weird and hilarious. Once the dust settled, Dave Brockie started telling us some great stories of seeing Courtney Love shoot up in the Eighties, playing the Gathering of the Juggalos, growing up in the DC hardcore scene (including incredible stories of his experiences with the likes of Henry Rollins & Ian MacKaye), the death of the hardcore scene, and so much more. Gunface had some problems with his phone which were eventually resolved, but they eventually talked about their jingles, Gunface's new career as a voiceover artist, Greg selling his beard and much more. After the call, we heard our first news report from our new correspondant "The Ripper" before ending the show with two classic bits. Here is this week's playlist: The Dillinger Escape Plan – Room Full Of Eyes Harvey Milk – We Destroy the Family Big Business – Hands Up Vision Divine – The Killing Speed Of Time Hellnation – Not Smooth Jazz Black Flag – Fix Me Slayer – Guilty Of Being White Don't forget to join us next week for our extended THREE HOUR special edition of the Livecast from 8 to 11pm eastern, featuring very special guest Oderus Urungus aka Dave Brockie of GWAAARRRRRR sitting in the studio.
