Formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, GWAR quickly gained a reputation for their unique blend of heavy metal, punk rock, and shock rock theatrics. At the core of GWAR's image are their elaborate costumes and grotesque characters, including Oderus Urungus, Beefcake the Mighty, and Jizmak Da Gusha. These characters, often depicted as monstrous and otherworldly beings, engage in outlandish and often violent stage antics, spewing fake blood and various fluids onto their audience. While GWAR's stage show and shock value are undeniably attention-grabbing, their music should not be overlooked. Combining aggressive guitar riffs, pounding drums, and catchy hooks, GWAR's sound is a potent mix of thrash metal, punk energy, and humorous lyrics. Songs like "Sick of You," "Immortal Corrupter," and "Bring Back the Bomb" showcase the band's raw power and satirical wit.Throughout their career, GWAR has amassed a dedicated and loyal fan base, known as the "Scumdogs of the Universe." The band's live shows are legendary spectacles, drawing fans from all over the world who eagerly participate in the chaotic and messy experience. GWAR's music and stage presence have influenced numerous bands in the metal and punk genres, and their impact on the underground music scene is undeniable.Sadly, GWAR has faced its share of tragedy, including the death of founding member and frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) in 2014. However, the band has persevered, continuing to tour and release albums, with new members taking up the mantle and carrying on the legacy.GWAR's legacy as a band that pushes boundaries, both musically and visually, continues to resonate with fans who appreciate their irreverent humor, theatrical performances, and unapologetic approach to heavy music. In the show, BLOTHAR discusses the band's upcoming album, "The New Dark Ages", on June 3 on CD and digital, and on September 16 on vinyl and cassette via GWAR's own label Pit Records. The album concept is tied to a companion graphic novel, "GWAR In The Duoverse Of Absurdity", which will be released by Z2 Comics on June 3. In the graphic novel, the bandmembers are sucked off into an alternate universe to do battle with their evil twins and the specter of rogue technology. On "The New Dark Ages", our heroes floorboard it through a kaleidoscope of hard-driving heavy metal, and rock and fucking roll, building on their hilarious mythos, introducing cool new characters, and cataloging mankind's hapless abandonment of their passions, rituals, and beliefs. In the discussion, we also discuss the late ODERUS URUNGUS, sex & violence and lots more fun stuff. And in the second portion of the show, Scott Penfold is joined by Loaded Radio's Johnny Rude live from Las Vegas, NV to discuss JUDAS PRIEST's upcoming induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Dave Brockie would lead the charge and continue to create art that disturbed, took no prisoner, and took a made as laugh at everything wrong. The concept of GWAR would truly take perseverance through the years and as each album release would continue, line ups would change, musical trends would change, but there was only one GWAR, and only one Dave Brockie. On this thunderous edition of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — epic paranormal talk with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we charge headlong into horror-metal gods GWAR’s mythos and new album THE BLOOD OF GODS with band lead guitarist Pustulus Maximus. We talk with Pustulus Top of Hour 2; Hour 1 we review the week’s freakiest paranormal news from the America’s Most Haunted Twitter feed. GWAR’s new album, their 16th and first since the death of frontman Oderus Urungus, is being hailed by critics — whose families were, frankly, threatened — as the greatest sonic event since the Big Bang. THE BLOOD OF GODS chronicles the massive battle between GWAR and all the forces that oppose them. Along the way, the band challenges the sins of humanity from politics, pollution, and organized religion, to fast food, and factory farming. Humans are shown as what they are: a parasitic disease that must be eradicated before they suck the planet dry! The story of GWAR is carved across the history of this barren and hopeless planet, but GWAR themselves are not of this world. Long ago, the beings who would become the rock band GWAR were part of an elite fighting force, the Scumdogs of the Universe. For eons, they served as thralls to a supreme being known only as the Master. But one by one, each future member of the band earned a glaring reputation for being an intergalactic screw-up. And so, they were banished, sent away on a fool’s errand to conquer an insignificant dirtball floating in a dark corner of the universe, the planet Earth. Once here, GWAR shaped the face of the globe, destroying and rebuilding the natural world, and giving rise to all of human history. Aliens to some, gods and demons to others, our erstwhile Scumdogs bred with apes to create the human race.

In this special flashback, GWAR legend Dave "Oderus Urungus" Brockie talks about revolution, punk rock, making art, Hendrix, Metallica, Antarctica and much more. You may know him as a talented space lizard from another planet, but beneath the costume beats the heart of a DC hardcore-loving teenager who saw Minor Threat and was changed forever. This double feature took place a few months before we lost this icon of heavy metal and modern rock and roll performance art. May his hilarious, hyper-intelligent ways and his epic back catalogue of music live forever.

We segued into an interview with Priscilla Caputo who discussed her recent affairs, and also bonded about their sexual exploits. In the second hour, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God called in and discussed his band's new album, Resolution, and his forthcoming presidential win. He also took some questions from fans giving advice for vocalists, expressing his opinions on piracy and more. It was an awesome interview. We then got a surprise call from Oderus Urungus of GWAR, which was always a pleasure. He revealed that the band will be touring with Municipal Waste this Spring. We wrapped up talking about a new website idea that Noa had. What an episode of the Metal Injection Livecast this was! We kicked things off with Rob describing a stoned excursion to buy clothes for the metal cruise, which we then spent a good amount of time talking about. Rob and Noa discussed what they are looking forward to and then predicted what sort of live blogging they would be doing. (Sidenote: We will be liveblogging from the cruise all next week.) After that we spent some time discussing a procedure Noa is considering. We took a music break and returned with a new soundbite that Sid and 3D discovered of Rush Limbaugh and it was immediately inducted into our Soundbite Hall of Fame, by which we mean we played it for 10 minutes straight with other soundbites. It was awesome. We spent some time discussing Nergal's recent recovery and how what a typical day in his life is like nowadays. We then listened to some music from Nergal's current girlfriend, Doda. Up next was a Livecast Metal News Update. Somehow that spawned a conversation about the ethnicity of Alex Skolnick. Following the second music break, we were joined by the one and only Oderus Urungus of GWAR. To say Oderus was incredibly intoxicated would be a huge understatement. It began with twenty minutes of complete randomness that made very little sense. It was weird and hilarious. Once the dust settled, Dave Brockie started telling us some great stories of seeing Courtney Love shoot up in the Eighties, playing the Gathering of the Juggalos, growing up in the DC hardcore scene (including incredible stories of his experiences with the likes of Henry Rollins & Ian MacKaye), the death of the hardcore scene, and so much more. If you have ever listened to the Livecast and enjoyed what you've heard, then THIS is the segment for you.
