For nearly two decades, the renewable fuel standard has helped make the ethanol and biofuels industries major destinations for US crops. But for corn markets in the last few years, uncertainty has run rampant, as high demand gave way to excess supplies, made worse by unreliable biofuel policies. And now, at the end of 2022, the big reset is looming.Today, DTN Staff reporter Todd Neeley and Progressive Farmer Crops Editor Matt Wilde join us to discuss where these uncertainties stand, from small refinery waivers and pandemic-stalled fuel demand to the more recent supreme court ruling of E15. We'll also dig into the future of the RFS as rule changes approach, what impact electric cars might have on the industry, and what producers should be keeping an eye on in the meantime.

The excitement from a bullish acreage report faded at week's end as an appeals court vacated an EPA rule on selling E15 year-round. For the week, September wheat added 12 cents while the nearby corn contract jumped 62 cents or nearly 12 percent. The soy complex responded with substantial moves higher on an unchanged acreage report before giving way to some profit taking. For the week, the August contract gained $1.31. August meal increased $32.60 per ton. December cotton shed 21 cents per hundredweight. Over in the dairy parlor, August Class III milk added 11 cents.
Contestants: Paige Feldman, Mik Larsen, Rajay Kumar Fight on! This episode sees me (joined once again by Andrew Darby from E7) re-unite with three dear friends from my days at USC, including E15 standout Rajay, as we re-fight the Civil War, re-visit -- appropriately enough -- some old "Friends," and reference Alfred Hitchcock so many times I may as well have used "Funeral March of a Marionette" as the theme music. This episode features some of my all-time favorite questions, and the finale is an absolute masterclass in abductive reasoning. What's the difference between E10, E15, and E85 gas? From the U.S. Energy Information Administration https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=27&t=10 and Popular Mechanic https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/car-technology/a25135/guide-to-fuel/All gasoline engine vehicles can use E10. Currently, only flex-fuel and light-duty vehicles with a model year of 2001 or newer are approved by the EPA to use E15. Flex-fuel vehicles can use any ethanol-gasoline blends up to E85.Pros• Ethanol helps the fuel meet federal air-pollution regulations. It reduces tailpipe emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, benzene, and fine particulates.• Ethanol contributes to fulfilling the national energy independence goals presented in the 2005 Energy Policy Act and extended under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.• Ethanol is a powerful octane booster—a fuel additive that prevents the fuel charge from preigniting in the cylinder, which leads to engine knocking and poor performance.Cons• With 33 percent less energy content than gasoline, ethanol actually lowers your gas mileage.• Ethanol is known to ruin small engines, especially two-stroke, because of its tendency to separate from the gasoline.• By growing corn for ethanol, farmers reduce the land being used to grow corn for food, raising the consumer price of corn.• Ethanol is highly corrosive, forcing auto manufacturers to use more expensive stainless-steel components. When should you use premium vs. regular gas? From the U.S. Department of Energy https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/octane.shtmlIf your car manufacturer requests higher octane gasoline - use it!Is your car under recall? https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In the episode "Dogmas of Science Part 1: Rupert Sheldrake, Consciousness and the Mechanistic Biomedical Model (S2, E15)," I share what materialist scientists believe is true about human consciousness, and how it relates to the biomedical model in psychiatry. Scientist Rupert Sheldrake in his book The Science Delusion, presents an alternative perspective about the human mind and consciousness as he shares how the scientific establishment refuses to acknowledge these things are real and that the mind extends beyond the confines of the brain. As they cling to the materialist worldview, they promote only mechanistic medicine, which has caused a great deal of harm through psychiatry. #bipolardisorder #mentalillness #consciousness #mentalhealth #madinamerica #madness #mania #depression #psychiatryisnotscience #biomedicalmodel #rupertsheldrakePlease visit my website at: http://www.notascrazyasyouthink.com/Don't forget to subscribe to the Not As Crazy As You Think YouTube channel @SicilianoJenConnect:Instagram: @jengaita LinkedIn: @jensicilianoTwitter: @jsiciliano

This is incredible. When I first started this podcast, I didn't think very hard about how far I would go with it. There were so many variables- my young kids, my work schedule, time with my spouse, the pandemic. I just didn't know if I could do it all, to be honest. But I found my flow, figured out how far ahead I need to be, and little hacks to make the work easier. I have learned so much- about doing something I love, about making a difference in this world, about doing something for the first time by… just doing it!So when I look back at the past 34 episodes of Determine Our Future, I realize that there are some updates that I either feel I need to do, or want to do. I think one of the best things about podcasts is that you can update them when needed. So I guess I could have gone back and updated each of these three episodes and re-released them. But then I thought… what if I just combined the updates into one great episode, and then if you want to, you can go back and listen to the originals? Here we go. In this episode I will provide updates to E9, E10 and E15. Episode 9 is about the militarization of police and why police officers and departments treat Black people and people of color differently from White people. Episode 10 is about for-profit colleges Globe University and the MN School of Business, that defrauded students with Criminal Justice degrees and other degrees that turned out to be worthless. Finally, Episode 15 is about cancel culture, and its evolving situations, consequences and even meanings in American society. I'm excited to provide updates to the movements of each topic. Let's jump in!Season 2 promotional info, post-roll

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.09.25.312785v1?rss=1 Authors: Pal, S., Dwivedi, D., Pramanik, T., Godbole, G., Iwasato, T., Jabaudon, D., Bhalla, U. S., Tole, S. Abstract: The cortical subplate is critical in regulating the entry of thalamocortical sensory afferents into the cortex. These afferents reach the subplate at embryonic day (E)15.5 in the mouse, but wait for several days, entering the cortical plate postnatally. We report that when transcription factor Lhx2 is lost in E11.5 cortical progenitors, which give rise to subplate neurons, thalamocortical afferents display premature, exuberant innervation of the E15.5 cortex. Embryonic mutant subplate neurons are correctly positioned below the cortical plate, but they display an altered transcriptome and immature electrophysiological properties during the waiting period. The sensory thalamus in these cortex-specific Lhx2 mutants displays atrophy, eventually leading to severe deficits in thalamocortical innervation. Strikingly, these phenotypes do not manifest if Lhx2 is lost in postmitotic subplate neurons. These results demonstrate a mechanism operating in subplate progenitors that has profound consequences on the growth of thalamocortical axons into the cortex. Copy rights belong to original authors. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Professor Bill Earnshaw, Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, to talk about his work on the role of non-histone proteins in chromosome structure and function during mitosis. In the beginning of Bill Earnshaw's research career little was known about the structure that holds the two individual sister chromatids together. This led to Bill pioneering in the use of autoantibodies for the identification and cloning of key chromosomal proteins. He used serum from a scleroderma patient to identify and clone human centromeric proteins, which paved the way for the molecular characterization of the metazoan kinetochore. Later the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) was identifies in his lab using biochemical studies. This complex contains Aurora B kinase plus its targeting and regulatory subunits INCENP, Survivin, and Borealin/Dasra B. More recently, he teamed up with the laboratories of Job Dekker and Leonid Mirny. In this collaboration they used a system for synchronous mitotic entry developed by Kumiko Samejima. These studies used a combination of chemical biology, gene targeting, Hi-C genomics, and polymer modeling to explore the roles of condensin I and condensin II in mitotic chromosome formation. The results revealed that during prophase interphase higher-order chromatin organization breaks down and subsequently condensin II and condensin I work together to form hierarchical loops that give chromosomes their compact morphology. In this interview, we discuss the story on how centromeric proteins were first identified using sera from human scleroderma patients, how the chromosomal passenger complex was discovered, and how condensin I and II work together in chromatin loop formation.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this week unveiled its final rule on the Renewable Fuels Standard, and it drew immediate ire from biofuels groups and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. Pro Farmer policy analyst Jim Wiesemeyer says those groups are missing some of the details of the plan and that the administration plans to follow it up with significant funding for E15 infrastructure. In this week's DC Signal to Noise Podcast, AgriTalk's Chip Flory and Farm Journal news director John Herath push back on the notion that the EPA announcement settles anything for biofuels interests going into an election year. Wiesemeyer also offers up key details on the Phase One trade deal with China and the group, including AgWeb.com policy writer Anna-Lisa Laca, breaks down a big policy week that surrounded a presidential impeachment. For those of you that have been following along my career journey you may have noticed that I have some guests on that have been integral to my career journey and my next one, Jeff Stewart played a pivotal role. Back in 2012 he recruited me for my role at Erwin Penland, my most favorite job that I ever had. I remember a couple of very distinct things from working with him. First, this dude was a smooth operator- smooth as silk. Not salesy, just got it done, all business. Which makes sense as he was a former pro poker player. Jeff had his own pivot about 2 years ago and now today is a talent strategy consultant at LinkedIn who spends his time helping talent leaders from all industries better understand the behavior of their target audiences and competitors in order to craft winning strategies to attract and engage the very best talent and build winning teams. As I mentioned, prior to joining LinkedIn, he was an agency recruiter who specialized in helping his clients hire top-performing marketing, advertising, communications, and design professionals in New York City. Jeff is the man and on E15 he drops inside knowledge of how both candidates and brands can best utilize the platform and a whole lot more!
