Watch the full video interview on YouTube here: https://bit.ly/byronkatie419 In 1986, at the bottom of a ten-year spiral into depression and self-loathing, Byron Katie (IG: @byron.katie) woke up one morning in a state of joy. She realized that when she believed her stressful thoughts, she suffered, but that when she questioned them, she didn't suffer, and that this is true for every human being. Her simple yet powerful process of self-inquiry, which she calls The Work, consists of four questions and the turnaround, which is a way of experiencing the opposite of what you believe. Katie has been bringing The Work to millions of people for more than thirty years. Her books, public events, weekend workshops, intensives, and nine-day School for The Work have brought freedom to people all over the world. In this episode, we discuss: Katie suffering from depression for 10 years after her divorce How the “Judge Your Neighbour” worksheet can help you Katie's awakening back in 1986 Seeing how the world was created The reality of awareness How the people in Katie's life responded to her epiphany Using self-inquiry as a way to identify and question thoughts How Katie pulled her life back together after her depression Doing “The Work” Meeting her husband, Stephen Mitchell A cockroach was a symbol of awareness What is earth school? "Sometimes we are positioned to see a need that no one else is seeing" - these are the words of oncologist Katie Deming MD who turned her hand at fashion entrepreneurship in order to solve an unmet need of her clients. After years of advising her patients to not wear a bra after radiation treatment for breast cancer, she started coming up with bra hacks to help them feel comfortable post-treatment and still feel and look well. But there is only so long you can jump from hack to hack until you reach the point where you think you can find a long-er term fix. This is what prompted Katie to design and manufacture her own sensitive skin bra. Episode Notes:Listen to this riveting conversation and discover:How Katie discovered a gap in the market and found herself in the perfect place to launch her own product range? What were the first steps she took to get started? The unusual route to market she took and how that worked out for her;How she runs her brand while continuing to be a full-time practicing oncologist consultant; Her manufacturing ups and downs and lessons she's learned so far.Key Takeaways:"The whole process of bra shopping left me sick." There is a whole segment of men and women who are ignored by both the fashion and medical industries. "It's important to have things that function well, but it is important to have things be aesthetically pleasing as well.""Your brand is everything" No matter how great your product is and even if patented, anything can be copied and there is little to no recourse for small brands. Building a solid recognizable brand is what ensures long-term business success. "If you don't have problems, you don't have production" No matter how small or large, how financially stable and secure a business can be - manufacturing is a delicate balancing act where anything at any point can go wrong. Employing commercial thinking and remaining firm but practical is the only way to keep going forward. Running out of stock is a good problem to have unless you have a time-sensitive problem. In which case, your customers, no matter how loyal, move their business to where there is product availability. In today’s society, we often put so much value on busyness that it forces us to neglect ourselves. We find ourselves trying to earn our places in the world through doing, and the more we do the more is expected of us. Our guest today, Katie McDonald, understands this too well. After early success as a high-performance corporate executive, followed by the intense responsibilities of motherhood, chronic self-neglect led her to the depths of overwhelm, depression, and illness. This is what led her on a journey to become a self-care strategist and inspired her to establish b.nourished, a holistic coaching program for executives. By viewing self-care as a key to success rather than an obstacle, Katie has curated proven practices through decades of self-study, speaking, and concierge coaching engagements. Katie and b.nourished are a testament to how, with intentionality and mindfulness, peace-of-mind and productivity can actually go hand in hand. In this show, Katie explains why self-care is a smart, effective business strategy, and it doesn’t have to come at the cost of productivity. She speaks about how slowing down is a powerful tool for getting things done and why self-neglect is actually selfish in a world that needs us at our best. Tuning in you’ll hear what “revenge bedtime procrastination” is and why we do it, the difference between being self-involved and self-evolved, and why the first assignment Katie gives her clients is to sit in silence and have a cup of tea. Key Points From This Episode: Clare’s personal revelation of the importance of self-care through her own auto-immune disease. [00:01:10] Katie describes her own experience from being a high-powered executive to coaching executives to help them integrate well-being with productivity. [00:03:53] Thoughts on what is wrong with our culture that we overvalue busyness and neglect ourselves. [00:05:53] How and why people are terrified of having nothing to do and being alone in their own thoughts. [00:06:40] Why the first assignment Katie gives her clients is to sit in silence and have a cup of tea. [00:08:08] Katie explains that we need to repair the relationships we have with ourselves. [00:09:46] Why people are good at saying yes, and bad at saying no, and until the basics are in place, the answer to everything else should be no. [00:10:36] The importance of asking ourselves “What do I need?” and staying quiet long enough to hear the answer. [00:12:40] How Katie works with clients to figure out what they need and comes up with a plan, as motivation is not enough. [00:16:24] What “revenge bedtime procrastination” is and why we do it. [00:21:54] The importance of checking in with your future self, or “paying yourself forward”. [00:22:51] The implications of context and adjusting one’s self-care routine for the specific season or situation. [00:28:04] The importance of knowing what you want or who you want to be so your life is intentional and not just reactive. [00:30:01] The difference between being self-involved and self-evolved: self-awareness is not just a birthright, it’s also a responsibility. [00:32:17] Your duty to stop being a doormat and set other people free to do the same. Episode 191: Through professional and personal life changes, actor Katie Cassidy has focused on self-love and an NFT drop to encourage female empowerment. Guest Biography Katie Cassidy is best known for her work in film and television. Most recently, for her portrayal of the iconic comic book character, Laurel Lance/Black Canary, on The CW’s long-running hit series “Arrow” (2012-2020). Upon ending the show (November 2019) and her two short years of marriage (Jan 2020), the world shut down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, giving Katie the time and space to look inward and focus on herself. Over the course of the last 12 months, Katie has spent the time learning how to love herself (ME), explore the persona she presents to her fans and audience (SHE), and get to know how the two come together to form (WE). Hence the title of her NFT drop and portrait series “ME. SHE. WE.” Always fascinated with technology, cryptocurrency, and newly emerging NFT’s, Katie decided to bring her idea of ME. SHE. WE. to life with a series of digital portraits, carving out a whole new genre of art with a cotton canvas, black and white paint, and the human body as her medium (shot by The Riker Brothers). Excited about this new venture, Katie is dedicated to using this new platform to encourage female empowerment, self-love, acceptance, and has pledged a portion of the proceeds to benefit The Rape Foundation, Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, and LifeWay Network. Even if it takes thirty years, like it did for Katie, or one hundred eight (like it did for the Chicago Cubs to win the World Series), dreams really can come true. It starts with finding a way to do what you love. Dreams often fade over time, losing the brilliance of their original inspiration. We've all experienced it, even rationalized it. Circumstances change, nudging you to give up. You age, take on family responsibilities, face health concerns, lose loved ones before their time. As a result, dreams get written off. But maybe they don't have to be. Maybe there's a way of reimagining them. When Katie's mom died, she thought their shared dream of visiting all thirty Major League Baseball ballparks died too. Six years later, she took a journey of a lifetime, proving our thirty-year-old dream was still alive. Baseball reminds us that we can fail often and still be a Hall of Famer. One bad game doesn't determine our identity, and one losing season doesn't define our career. We need to know that in challenging moments, the potential for redemption remains. After all, baseball is the game of perpetual chances. Katie hopes her story sends the message that while you might be down now, it's never too late to stage a rally or a comeback. Trust that every wrong turn, every challenging moment is leading you to exactly where you need to be. I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!: Leave a comment and let me know what stood out from Katie's story! The Cleveland Clinic says this about a rage room, " For a price, these facilities will let you blow off steam by flinging dishes, smashing computers and destroying furniture." During this week's podcast episode, Katie mentions it as one of the therapies she tried on her trauma healing journey.Acro Yoga + What is Rolfing?Katie mentions trying acroyoga along with the Rolfing method. Above you will find where I linked to AcroYoga. It combines the fitness + play of acrobatics, the healing + movement of therapeutics, and the balance + connection of yoga. The Rolfing method was named after its founder, after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf. The official Rolfing website describes Rolfing as, "A process that enables the body to regain the natural integrity of its form, thus enhancing postural efficiency and your freedom of movement."WP ThyroidWP Thyroid is a natural thyroid medication. Katie mentions she took it early in her Hashimoto's healing journey. I wanted to shine an extra light on it because I still take it and am confident in it. If you want to learn more about it, you'll find WP Thyroid HERE.Oura RingThe most accurate guide on sleep, readiness, and activity. Katie says she used and found a ton of value in this during her deep healing period. And yes, the Oura Ring is actually a ring you wear. And now I think I need one.Phosphatidyl CholineI have heard Katie mention her choline issues a few different times on various podcast episodes. She talks about it in this podcast episode as well. Essentially, from doing a lot of testing, she found that she wasn't getting enough choline. Eggs are a huge source of choline, and she is still unable to consume eggs. Choline is important fort the Gutsy community because Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon and acts as a surfactant within the mucus to create a hydrophobic surface to prevent bacterial penetrance. Furthermore, four human trials have been performed to determine the efficacy of PC in the treatment of UC (ulcerative colitis). I'd love to explore Phosphatidylcholine more.Wrap UpTime to wrap this up. As always, a huge goal for this show is to connect with even more people. Are you looking to create more success, joy, energy, and momentum in your life and business? Maybe you’re looking for more clarity around what you should be doing in life and how to open that door for success. You, my friend, are not alone. I’ve seen so many people get caught up in going down a path they feel obligated to go down because of some life experience they’ve had or what they saw someone else do. In reality, we should be paying more attention to what feels right and aligned than what we think we are supposed to be doing. We only live one life, so we deserve to do the thing that lights us up and makes us feel connected to our purpose. That’s why I’m so excited to have Katie Irvine on the IHML Show. Katie is an amazingly insightful woman and Human Design expert (she used to be one of our VAs!) who has so much to offer in terms of helping people utilize their Human Design to better their lives (and businesses). Katie’s passion for Human Design comes from a place of personal experience. She witnessed first hand how alignment with her energy and design can transform your life. After learning about Human Design for the first time (at an IHML retreat) she was obsessed and knew she wanted to help others use Human Design to find more peace and happiness in their own lives (we recently invited her to do this with our Mastermind students). Fast forward a few years and that’s exactly what she is doing in her own business today (and she absolutely loves it). Listen as we dive into all the things from Katie’s own experiences with Human Design (and ultimately starting her business) to how you too can benefit in your life and business by better understanding your own design. For those of you new to the whole Human Design thing, don’t worry. Katie explains exactly what it is (including a breakdown of the five main design types) and how it can help you not only better understand yourself, but how you best interact with everything happening around you as well. I’m telling you, once you understand your design type, you can better tap into your energy and literally change your life-- just like Katie did. So, if you are ready to stop doing what doesn’t feel right and start learning how to better align with your energy and the world around you, this episode is for you. So, why wait? If you don’t know it already, I recommend you find out about your Human Design today (Katie recommends using myBodyGraph.com) because it will help you pave the path toward success and happiness in every aspect of your life. P.S. If you like what you hear in this episode (I know you will), be sure to check out Katie’s special promo code for IHML Show listeners. Use promo code ‘iheartmylife’ to get 33% off Katie’s incredible Energy Types Classes so you can begin learning more about your specific design and how it can help you live your best life today. In this episode… [02:27] Welcome Katie and hear her journey with Human Design. [05:04] Hear Katie explain her struggle finding her own path. [09:19] What drew Katie to Human Design? [12:00] Listen as Katie explains how Human Design helped her step into her true self. [15:01] What exactly is Human Design? If you've been on Facebook or Instagram at all in the last few years, you've undoubtedly come across an online quiz. Who doesn't want to know which Disney princess they are?!? But have you ever considered creating your own quiz in order to generate leads for your wedding business? In this week's episode of the This Week In Weddings podcast, we're chatting with a wedding photographer who is doing just that and successfully bringing in leads every single day using online quizzes targeted at her ideal client. About our guest: With over 6 years of experience photographing intimate weddings, Katie Doherty has traveled from upstate New York to Bali to Tuscany to document unique love stories. Run Away Together, an elopement photography studio based in Los Angeles, emerged from Katie's desire to work with unconventional, romantic couples who are up for an adventure. Katie adores photographing elopements because they are often a no fuss, no muss approach to getting married. Couples have described her images as nostalgic, poetic, and cinematic. Katie is also the host of the Run Away Together podcast, a resource for couples who are considering an elopement. On the show, she is able to share her love for travel and inspiring places around the world to elope. She enjoys researching stunning, unique ceremony locations and assists couples in finding the best places to stay, dining options, and things to do for fun in any given city. This eases the couples' stress and simplifies planning. When Katie is not photographing weddings, she loves documenting her travels. She's constantly on the lookout for landscape and nature scenes to create fine art prints, and has partnered with the likes of Samsung and Urban Outfitters. Lastly, Katie is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of La Rousse Shoppe, which sells glass photo boxes and other elegant packaging products to photographers. Her mission is simple: creating beauty for others to enjoy. In this episode, listeners will hear about: Katie's experience in the wedding industry How Katie came up with the idea to create quizzes as a lead generation tool Quiz ideas for wedding industry businesses Starting from the end of the process (the quiz results) and working backwards to create the questions The software Katie uses to create the quiz - Outgrow quiz maker How Katie has used Pinterest ads to promote the quiz The number of daily leads Katie is now getting through online quizzes Katie's previous podcast episode with This Week In Weddings, "Making Money While You Sleep" Copywriter Kayley Vandenberg Want to connect with Katie? In today’s episode, Libby is talking with Katie Gill. Katie is a registered dietitian nutritionist. She helps busy professionals lose weight and ditch emotional eating, without following rigid meal plans. Katie cares deeply about teaching clients how to feel confident with their food choices, regardless if they are eating at home, on a plane, or happy hour. It’s an area in her own life that she struggled with for many years. In her teens, Katie went on her first diet. What started out as a simple idea to shed a few pounds, turned into a decade of a complicated relationship with food. She remembers being so confused, about which diet would be best for her. She tried them all, but never found one that she could maintain. Now, a decade later Katie found a style of eating she can easily maintain, at her desired weight, while still enjoying life! She has coached hundreds of clients to do the same. “Just like I tell my clients, there's never a perfect time of year to lose weight. It's challenging and easy equal parts of all seasons. It's the same with this. Set yourself up, make a three month plan at the bare minimum, but just start.” - Katie Gill In today’s episode… Katie has increased her number of weekly discovery calls by 50% Why dietitians struggle with setting higher standards How Katie used her experience in clinical to really define her ideal client Guest Resources: Instagram: @KatieGillWellness Free Resources from Libby Are you ready to start your journey? Good People, Today I’m sharing with you a revamped episode from the very first season of The Truth Prescription: my conversation with my great friend Katie Duke, who is now the host of her own podcast Bad Decisions. Katie and I met back in 2016, and I interviewed her for this podcast in September 2017. We had a lot of fun, but we also tackled some really heavy topics. Katie’s professional truth stems from her experience working as an ER nurse, featured on NY MED on ABC. We talked about the excitement, drama, embarrassment, and fear from being on this reality TV show, but also about how she got fired – and the truth behind it all. She talks about how getting fired was an incredibly low point in her life, but because she chose to take the high road and eat a slice of humble pie, her character was ultimately strengthened. She also shares a personal truth around finding herself through an abusive mentality and physically abusive relationship, what she’s learned about herself since then, and now how she’s inspiring women around the world via social media. I hope you enjoy this throwback. So close your eyes and open your ears, and let’s get into it. Some Questions I Ask: What is your personal and/or professional truth that enabled you to move forward and become successful? (14:07)What is a social media influencer? (55:03)What are you trying to communicate with the pictures and videos you post on IGTV? (59:18)In This Episode You Will Learn: Why Katie focuses on empowering women through social media. (9:12)Katie’s professional truth: taking the high road at your lowest point is a demonstration of your strength. (15:20)Katie’s personal truth: the only person you can change is yourself. Katie Wells, CTNC, MCHC, Founder and CEO of and is my guest on today's show. A mom of six with a background in journalism, she took health into her own hands and started researching to find answers to her health struggles. Her research turned into a blog and podcast, and she’s now written over 1,500 blog posts, three books, and was named one of the 100 most influential people in health and wellness. When she’s not reading medical journals, creating new recipes, or recording podcasts, you can find her somewhere outside in the sun with her husband (who she met walking across the country) and kids or undertaking some DIY remodeling project. Obligatory additional unrelated randomness: doula, speed-reader, hates bananas, loves baseball, scuba-diver, INTJ, highly experienced in answering the question, “why.” Her new company is her debut line of high-quality, all-natural, and clean personal care products.
