The result was an immediate transition to a healthier and more active lifestyle for myself. After graduating college, I experienced a massively debilitating back injury - a 10mm herniation at my L4/L5 disc and bulged disc. I spent those 2 years exploring my movements, figuring out what felt good and what hurts, and slowly reintroducing weighted movements. As someone with Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), I have found that improving my body awareness and strengthening my weaknesses is the most profound thing that I can do for myself. KATIE GOSS: My interest in health and wellness began 20 years ago when I decided to take on a career in nursing because I was passionate about helping others. As a cardiac critical care nurse, I enjoyed the constant learning and critical thinking it required. Knowing the power of prevention and self-care, I left the medical field, trained in Pilates and continued my own health journey experimenting with different approaches. Hey friends! I know right now has been a very confusing time for so many of us... I actually brought on Meg Sutton today for a hot seat episode to really dive deep into where she should be focusing in her business.  You might be familiar with Meg as she has been on the podcast a few times before and is a long time client of mine. Meg Sutton is the boss lady and doodler behind Belle and Union and As her company has evolved and COVID has changed the economy, she’s felt unsure of where she should be focusing her time and energy to ensure long-term stability for her business.  We take a look into her numbers including income percentages, expenses, the challenges she’s facing and her future goals. We first spoken with Katie in March 2018, where she shared more about her transition from a model to adventurer, she goes into detail about the challenges she faced and overcame while doing the longest crossing of the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap, and being the first woman to walk the entire length of the wall of China!  Since then Katie has continued to fill her life with many more adventures. Despite her accolades, Katie would still not class her self as the 'typical adventurer type', as she admits she is frightened of everything and is inherently lazy by nature! Her default setting (that she has to constantly override) is to lay on the sofa with a cup of tea, dunking biscuits, watching the likes of Strictly and X Factor on the telly. Getting started is always the hardest bit. Failure teaches you a lot, and it helped me figure out a path to success that worked for me.” —Katie Burke Katie Burke is the Chief People Officer at HubSpot, a marketing software company in Boston that employs more than 2,300 people worldwide. And of those 2,300, Katie was the company’s first female to land a spot in the c-suite. (Today, 45 percent of the company’s vice presidents are women.) In this super inspiring conversation, Katie shares why she’s so passionate about empowering women in the workplace, and candidly opens up about her own massive career failures — including how bombing the LSATs turned out to be the best thing that could’ve happened to her. She offers up interviewing advice, explains why prospective employees should add “we” to their vocabularies, and shares the one word she’s trying to add to her own life. Katie is the oldest of six kids, and she has a fascinating family story. Her dad, Brian Burke, is extremely well-known in the hockey world, and her brother, Brendan, was a hockey player at Miami Ohio when he famously came out as gay to his teammates — and the world. Brendan was later killed in a tragic car accident, and Katie gladly shared stories of his incredible legacy with me. Of course, Katie is also a runner. Katie Orr is my guest for the 4th episode of the Home and Hearth podcast! It was such an honor to get to chat with her and to pick her brain on all things Bible study and quiet time. Katie's passion and mission is "equipping busy women to experience God" and to really provide the tools women need in order to learn to do in-depth Bible study right where they are, even in this busy season of life. To that end, she has written a series of Bible studies on various topics where she takes you through the FOCUSed 15 method, enabling you to really dig down deep into the Scriptures in just 15 minutes a day.
