Episode Description:This was one of those interviews where James thought he was talking about leadership—and realized halfway through that he was really talking about responsibility.Jocko Willink doesn't use buzzwords. He doesn't soften the message. He talks about ego, blame, and why most problems—at work and in life—don't come from bad systems but from leaders who won't take ownership. What struck James most wasn't the battlefield stories. It was how calmly Jocko explained things everyone avoids: hard conversations, personal discipline, and the quiet habits that prevent disasters before they happen. No theatrics. No motivation talk. Just clarity.Listening back now, years later, this episode feels even more relevant. The ideas haven't aged at all. If anything, they matter more. What You'll Learn:Why ego—not lack of skill—is the biggest obstacle to leadershipHow taking ownership defuses blame and accelerates problem-solvingWhy hard conversations get easier when you have them earlyHow decentralized command builds trust and better decisionsWhy discipline creates freedom in work, creativity, and personal lifeTimestamped Chapters:[00:00] Handling criticism, ego, and emotional control[03:00] Introduction: Jocko Willink, Extreme Ownership, and Way of the Warrior Kid[06:00] Kids, insecurity, and learning discipline early[08:00] Combat decision-making and pausing under pressure[11:00] Friendly fire, responsibility, and the origin of “Extreme Ownership”[12:30] Blame vs. ownership in business and life[15:00] Ego as the real obstacle to leadership[17:00] How leaders share blame without losing authority[18:30] Clarifying expectations: writing, follow-ups, and alignment[20:00] Avoiding confrontation—and why it backfires[22:00] Hard conversations: why earlier is always easier[24:00] Escalation, accountability, and firing as leadership failure[25:30] Being proactive instead of reactive[26:30] Why Jocko joined the SEALs[28:00] The “dry years”: training for war that never came[30:00] Discipline equals freedom[31:30] Discipline in art and creativity (Jimmy Page example)[33:00] Commander's intent vs. micromanagement[35:00] Decentralized command and trusting your team[37:00] Managing micromanagers by over-communicating[41:00] Leadership problems vs. process problems[44:00] Sleep, routines, and daily discipline[47:00] Way of the Warrior Kid and teaching confidence[49:30] Jiujitsu as discipline, restraint, and self-control[54:00] Confidence reduces conflict[58:00] Discipline, freedom, and building a personal code01:03:00] National strength and deterrence[01:05:00] War, leadership, and human nature[01:08:00] Why veterans think twice about war[01:10:00] Perspective from real suffering[01:13:00] Gratitude in modern life[01:15:00] Studying hardship to build humility[01:18:00] Comfort vs. resilience[01:20:00] Perspective, sacrifice, and responsibility[01:26:00] Paying tribute to endurance and resilience[01:28:00] Closing reflections and sign-offSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Is "developer-friendly" AI security actually possible? In this episode, Bryan Woolgar-O'Neil (CTO & Co-founder of Harmonic Security) joins Ashish to dismantle the traditional "block everything" approach to security.Bryan explains why 70% of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are running locally on developer laptops and why trying to block them is a losing battle . Instead, he advocates for a "coaching" approach, intervening in real-time to guide engineers rather than stopping their flow .We dive deep into the technical realities of MCP (Model Context Protocol), why it's becoming the standard for connecting AI to data, and the security risks of connecting it to production environments . Stop trying to be friendly all the time, and in this episode, I explain why your social self shouldn't always be in control. When I focus too much on being liked, I end up editing myself and losing the version of me that actually gets results. Friendliness often becomes a way to avoid discomfort, but it also weakens clarity and authority. Respect is built through boundaries, consistency, and self-command, not by trying to keep everyone comfortable. The people who matter most don't need me to be friendly, they need me to be clear. Show Notes: [04:13]#1 Friendliness is often a cover for approval seeking. [11:28]#2 When you try to be friendly, you become more reactive. [16:01]#3 Clarity is more kind than friendliness. Wow. I was just looking at the last couple of Months and we have missed a lot of episodes. I'm not going to lie, I was in London, so this is my fault. This is Feb 3rd, so it is the day the music died, and this podcast always celebrates this solemn day with a respectful discussion. We talk about flavor savers (time is a flat circle), and then I play a bad parody song and then drop the hammer Russ style with a good one. This is all of the episode I listened t,o but I started with a Big Johnson joke so I know this is a great ep. Next Week: Are you Randy baby? Randy Newman! I'm a "new man" because I have decided to change my life. I am leaving my wife and kids. Does that make you, Randy? If so, give me a call, because I am so lonely. Just like when I gave money to my friend Lee. Then he was hardly Friendly.... he never paid me back! Now I am friendless. Because I am hanging out with my friend Les. He is great, much better than Lee. But my friend Les changed his last name when he married the old Moore widow..... Now Les is Moore.

Donald Trump says God is proud of him. During a bizarre, softball-filled press appearance marking his first year back in office, Trump claimed divine approval for his presidency—offered without evidence or irony. We unpack the religious delusion, the collapse of press accountability, and what it means when a sitting president openly frames himself as God's chosen leader. Beyond Trump, we take on a parade of church–state absurdities: Florida prisons ban the Bhagavad Gita for being "written in code," Oklahoma sheriffs tout Christian jailhouse conversions until lawyers step in, and a Texas county installs a Ten Commandments monument to dare the courts to stop them. We also cover Catholic leaders warning that U.S. foreign policy has lost its moral compass, new Pew data showing Catholicism rapidly declining in Latin America, and a sharp debate over protesters disrupting a Minnesota church linked to an ICE official—forcing the question of where religious freedom ends and accountability begins.

In this week's Behind The Scenes episode of The FasterFreedom Show, Sam dives into one of the most overlooked deal sources in real estate investing: investor-friendly real estate agents. He explains why agents consistently bring his companies more deals each year than wholesalers or many traditional lead sources, and what makes an agent truly “investor-friendly.” You'll hear the advantages of working with agents who understand numbers, timelines, and creative deal structures—and why these relationships often lead to higher-quality opportunities with less friction. This episode also breaks down the value of diversifying where deals come from, building long-term relationships instead of chasing one-off leads, and creating a network that compounds over time. It's a behind-the-scenes look at how strong partnerships drive consistent deal flow and why collaboration is one of the most underrated strategies in real estate.FasterFreedom Capital Connection: https://fasterfreedomcapital.comFree Rental Investment Training: https://freerentalwebinar.com

How does a bird experience a city? A backyard? A park? As the world has become more urban, noisier from increased traffic, and brighter from streetlights and office buildings, it has also become more dangerous for countless species of birds. In The Bird-Friendly City, Timothy Beatley, a longtime advocate for intertwining the built and natural environments, takes readers on a global tour of cities that are reinventing the status quo with birds in mind. Efforts span a fascinating breadth of approaches: public education, urban planning and design, habitat restoration, architecture, art, civil disobedience, and more. "A fibro-friendly, fresh start isn't about staying on track forever. It's about gently correcting your trajectory when things drift off." - Tami Stackelhouse Fresh starts are supposed to feel hopeful, but with fibromyalgia, they can feel heavy instead. The start of a new year brings many of us pressure to get it together, do better, and somehow reset everything at once, even when we're already exhausted. Then, when our bodies don't cooperate the way the plan expected them to, we start wondering what's wrong with us. The truth is, most fresh start advice isn't made for fibro bodies. They have quiet assumptions of consistent energy, predictable capacity, and unlimited willpower. But when your nervous system is sensitive, and your energy fluctuates, pushing harder usually makes things worse, not better. A fibro-friendly fresh start looks different. It's gentle, flexible, and based on today's reality, not who you wish you were. Small steps, compassionate restarts, and creating space for healing often matter far more than motivation or perfection. In this episode, Tami shares what a fibro-friendly fresh start looks like and why discipline-based plans don't work for those of us with chronic illness. She explains why discipline-based plans fail for people with fibromyalgia, how the just-do-it mindset activates our threat response and worsens fibro symptoms, why it's not your fault when fresh starts fail, what a fibro-friendly fresh start looks like, why small steps matter more than motivation, recognizing that rest and space are essential for healing, checking in with yourself and choosing one realistic next step, letting go of perfectionism and rules about productivity, focusing on one small change at a time, how to restart gently when things go off track, why kindness is the key to sustainable progress, why rest is not a reward, personalizing your fresh start instead of copying what works for others, understanding your Fibromyalgia Wellness Style℠ and what fits you, why long-term planning can be hard with fibromyalgia, how getting a little better every day adds up over time, and more. Note: This episode is not meant to be medical advice. Every person and every situation is unique. The Government's new Warm Homes plan has been set up to help people switch to eco-friendly heating systems for their homes, such as air source heat pumps and solar panels. The scheme will provide £15 billion in grants. The five year plan has been welcomed by the energy industry, but some see it as a missed opportunity. We ask the Rural Services Network what's in it for rural communities.Vertical farming has been hailed as one of the ways to feed the world's growing population, expected to increase to nearly ten billion by 2050. Crops are grown indoors, under artificial light. This method of farming can use less water and fewer chemicals than outdoor crops but does use a lot of energy. We find out why Scotland's Rural College has just opened its own full-scale vertical farm in Edinburgh.Making sure that a farm is sustainable and productive over the long-term - without ruining the environment or damaging wildlife - can be expensive. A young food activist and a farmer explore how this can be done with environmentalists and campaigners for better food networks.Presenter = Anna Hill Producer = Rebecca Rooney

The family launched a private investigation and eventually turned up strong evidence they believed implicated Claus in the attempted murder of Sunny, but, as they soon learned, believing it and proving it were two very different things.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1985.
