Timothy Keller Sermons Podcast by Gospel in Life

Money is not a silly or superfluous thing. Money was designed to be our dignity. It answers to something God put down deep in us: that we all need to have part of the world to care for, and without any part of the world to care for, we have no dignity. But what has happened in most of our lives is instead of being our dignity, money has become our definition.  Money is power. It can act destructively or constructively in your life. How can you be sure it's acting constructively? You know the answer: it's in the Bible many places. It's not how much money you have or how little money you have, it all depends on your heart attitude. You have to be freed from money as your definition so that it can become your dignity and you can release its power where it will do the most good. There are three principles that need to be worked down into your heart, and we see them in what Paul says in 2 Corinthians: 1) God owns everything you have, so you have to act like a trustee, 2) Jesus gave everything for you, so you're freed for radical generosity, and 3) you can take it with you if you invest it in eternal things. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 7, 1990. Series: Ten Commandments 1989. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8:1-15. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. In this episode, we reflect on the tender and often misunderstood topic of forgiveness, what it is, what it isn't, and why it's central to finding freedom in Christ. We talk honestly about how resentment and unforgiveness can quietly build in the heart, often as an attempt to protect ourselves from further pain. We also acknowledge how difficult forgiveness can be, what to do with the cry of our hearts when we have been wounded, and how to entrust it to God when we don't yet feel capable of forgiving. Friends, forgiveness does not strip us of our identity, it affirms who we are in Christ. Even in the deepest places of hurt, we find hope because of the loving presence of a God who never abandons us in our pain.   Heather's One Thing - Greatness of the Lord by Brooke Ligertwood Heather's Other One Thing - The Franciscan University Community  Sister Miriam's One Thing - Heather's Battle Cry Playlist Michelle's One Thing - Congratulations to Indiana University for winning the championship! How have I experienced shame about the wrongs I've endured or my own unforgiveness? How has this affected my health, wellbeing, or energy? How do I replay or obsess over the conflict I experienced?  How have I given into constant comparison in my unforgiveness? What major changes have occurred in my life because of the injustice I've experienced and how have they affected me? Has this experience led to a more negative worldview? How has my sense of self changed? Am I seeing myself as worthless?   Discussion Questions: How have you been sweeping things under the rug and calling it forgiveness? What deeper feelings lie beneath your resentment? Where in your life do you need to repent and take personal responsibility? Who has modeled repentance and forgiveness well in your life? How does your heart react to conflict and wrongdoing in relationships?   Quotes to Ponder: "Ultimately, we can really forgive people only because Christ rose from the dead; his Resurrection is the guarantee that God can cure every wrong and every hurt." (Fr. Jacques Philippe, Interior Freedom) Resentment attacks our vital forces and does us much harm. When someone has made us suffer, our tendency is to keep the memory of the wrong alive in our minds, like a "bill" we will produce in due time to demand settlement. Those accumulated bills end up poisoning our lives. It is wiser to cancel every debt, as the Gospel invites us to. In return, we will be forgiven everything, and our hearts will be set free, whereas nurturing resentment toward others closes us to the positive things they could contribute to us." (Fr. Jacques Philippe, Interior Freedom) Scripture for Lectio: "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!"" (Matthew 18:21-22)   Sponsor - Blessed is She: "Who do you say that I am?" Jesus didn't ask this because He was uncertain of His identity. He asked because we often are. The disciples had walked with Him. They had seen the miracles. They had heard the teaching. And still, when the question was asked, many hesitated. Because proximity to Jesus does not automatically mean intimacy.  So often, our understanding of God is shaped by what we've absorbed over time—what we were taught, what we experienced, what others modeled for us. And without noticing, we begin to believe stories that aren't true. That God is distant. That He is easily disappointed. That love must be earned. That holiness requires perfection. But Jesus does not leave us guessing. He tells us who He is: I am the Light of the World. I am the Bread of Life. I am the Good Shepherd. I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life... *Republishing our most downloaded episodes, one a month this year*Whether you've been married for a few years or are approaching a milestone anniversary, a healthy marriage takes intentional work. Marriage isn't built in the big, dramatic moments, but in thousands of small habits and daily interactions that over time lead to either a God-honoring, joy-filled relationship—or one marked by strain and self-focus.Author and speaker Paul David Tripp joins me to talk about how those everyday habits shape our marriages and how to identify the ones that need to be uprooted. Drawing from nearly 50 years of marriage, Paul helps us see our relationships through the lens of the gospel.“A biblical view of marriage is a sinner married to a sinner in a fallen world—but with a faithful God. That means we can't coast. There are things in each of us that threaten our marriage, and we need God's grace every day.”My hope is that this conversation encourages you to re-engage your marriage with renewed faith and confidence in what God can do.What we talk about: How marriages are shaped by thousands of small moments Why daily habits matter more than big moments Identifying healthy and harmful marriage habits How sin turns us inward—and why marriage is a covenant of community Confession, forgiveness, and navigating conflict Unity vs. uniformity in marriage The role of the fruit of the Spirit in a thriving marriage Why isolation harms marriage and community helps heal it Connect with Paul David Tripp:  Instagram: Paul David Tripp (@paultrippquotes) Facebook: Paul David Tripp Website: PaulTripp.com | Pastor. In this powerful and thought-provoking episode of the 9941 Podcast, Granger, Tyler, Parker and AntMan tackle a rapidly growing cultural trend: AI girlfriends, boyfriends, and digital soulmates. What starts as a discussion about emerging AI companion technology quickly becomes a deep, biblical examination of love, loneliness, identity, and God’s design for human relationships. The guys explore how artificial intelligence is being marketed as emotional companionship — even romantic partnership — and why that trend poses serious spiritual, emotional, and societal dangers. They reference real-world examples like hologram companions and AI chatbot “relationships,” including platforms that introduced erotic roleplay features and the emotional fallout when those features were removed. Using Scripture as their foundation, the conversation moves into what the Bible teaches about love, human connection, and God’s design for marriage. Passages from 2 Timothy 4, Proverbs 14, and Romans 1 are used to show how redefining love and pursuing artificial substitutes for real relationships leads people away from truth and toward spiritual harm. The hosts also address deeper heart issues behind the appeal of AI relationships — loneliness, sexual temptation, fear of rejection, and the desire for unconditional affirmation. They emphasize that while AI may seem safe and customizable, it ultimately replaces real sanctifying relationships and distracts people from Christ, the Church, and the gospel. The episode closes with a clear gospel message, reminding listeners that true love, fulfillment, and rest are found in Jesus alone — not in manufactured affection or digital fantasy. The guys issue a firm warning against pursuing romantic or emotional relationships with AI and encourage believers to trust God with their singleness, relationships, and longing for connection. *************** Follow the show: Instagram - https://www.Instagram.com/9941thepodcast Facebook - https://www.Facebook.com/9941thepodcast YouTube - https://www.YouTube.com/@9941ThePodcast Online - https://www.9941ThePodcast.com Shop - https://yeeyee.com/collections/faithSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What if marriage was never meant to just be about your happiness? In Part 1 of this candid and challenging teaching, Francis and Lisa Chan invite listeners to rethink marriage, family, and discipleship through the lens of eternity. Drawing from decades of shared ministry, they show that unity, joy, and intimacy in marriage are often the byproducts of pursuing God's mission together... not the primary goal. Francis and Lisa share vulnerable stories from their own lives: downsizing their home, giving sacrificially, moving in faith, fostering teens, raising children with an eternal perspective, and learning to say “yes” to God even when it was costly. They confront the cultural obsession with comfort and ask whether the Church has replaced God's Kingdom with the pursuit of a “happy Christian family.” This episode is a hope-filled call to seek first the Kingdom of God and trust Him with everything else. What if every health issue is actually part of the same underlying problem? In this powerful episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz — world-renowned gastroenterologist, gut health expert, and author of Plant Powered Plus — explains why your gut health is a story of your brain-gut connection. He shares why filling the ‘God-shaped hole' is a biological requirement to reduce inflammation and start to heal. Skin issues, bloating, autoimmune disease, chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, and even bloating may all be hidden symptoms of inflammation, driven by modern life, chronic stress, poor sleep, trauma, disconnection, and most importantly, a lack of spiritual connection. Dr. B shares a startling personal story of his own spiritual awakening that he had previously been too self-conscious to share. Dr. Bulsiewicz also breaks down: - Why modern convenience keeps us stuck in fight-or-flight instead of rest & digest - Practical, science-backed ways to reduce inflammation - Why health protocols help, but are never one-size-fits-all - Why the colon is your first line of defense against inflammation - Top 3 ways we're destroying our gut microbiome - How GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, Wegovy) are changing gut health, and their potential long-term risks - Importance of fiber, protein quality, diet variety, and why the Western diet fuels inflammation We also explore the powerful link between science, faith, and healing — why spirituality, purpose, and human connection measurably improve physical health, and how loneliness, trauma, and individualism damage the gut and immune system. Backed by science, we unpack how trauma causes digestive disease and why forgiveness can literally heal the body. Dr. Bulsiewicz shares his personal journey into spirituality, his emotional reconciliation with his father, and the remarkable experiences that followed his passing. If you've been struggling with unexplained symptoms, chronic inflammation, gut issues, fatigue, or are searching for a more whole-person approach to health, this episode may completely change how you think about healing. When Jesus Gets In Your Boat | Sunday Message

A New Beginning with Greg Laurie

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 25, 2026 41:29

Evangelism is a God-given calling every Christian must answer in obedience. In this message, Pastor Greg Laurie shares principles of a good "fisherman." Notes: Luke 5 There are right and wrong ways to go fishing. And there are also wrong ways to share our faith. The problem today isn’t that Christians are sharing the gospel the wrong way. It’s that 8/10 Christians never share the gospel in any way. Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Do you want to know how to share the gospel effectively? Do you want to go fishing for men? Read Luke 5:1–10 This is a story of how a miracle of Jesus touched the lives of three men,Peter, James, and John. This terrific trio accompanied Jesus on many occasions. They were there at the transfiguration. They were there when Jesus raised Jairus’s daughter. They were there during His agony in Gethsemane. Were they afforded these privileges because they were better than the others? Maybe Jesus was essentially saying, “I need to keep my eye on you, boys.” Peter’s misstatements were legendary. There were never three men who had less promise or natural ability.Yet they became three of the greatest missionary preachers in church history. Luke 5:3 (NLT)Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So He sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. John 1:42 (NLT)Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, "Your name is Simon, son of John--but you will be called Cephas" (which means "Peter"). Jesus looks at Simon and sees what he will become. There was another time Jesus looked at Peter. It was after Peter’s denial of Jesus. That was a look of understanding. It appears that Peter, James, and John had a spiritual lapse of sorts.Or perhaps they were just unsure of what it meant to follow Jesus. Peter, James, and John did not realize the potential Jesus had for them. Jesus was making them into powerful spiritual leaders who would touch their world. They had the privilege of writing the very scripture we hold in our hands. Have you sensed God’s call on your life to do a certain thing and then not done it? When Jonah ultimately stepped up to the plate, a national revival happened in the wicked city of Nineveh. Not to respond to God’s call on your life can be an actual sin.It is a sin of omission. Luke 5:4 (NLT)"Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish." Luke 5:5 (NLT)"Master," Simon replied, "we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing." Fishing at this time was back-breaking work because it involved laying out a great net in a semi-circle. It encompassed over 100 feet. Then it had to be drawn in hand over hand. Luke 5:5 (NLT)"Master," Simon replied, "we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. But if you say so, I'll let the nets down again." Peter used an interesting term for Jesus when he called Him, “Master.”It was a nautical term, "Captain of this boat." Peter let down the net instead of the nets. The result was that the net started breaking. This was supernatural, and these fishermen all knew it. Jesus gave Peter fish because that is what Peter understood. It’s amazing how Jesus can reach the academic and the uneducated, the certified genius and the little child. Augustine lived for drinking, partying, and rampant immorality. Weeping, Augustine heard the voice of a child repeating, “Take and read.”Augustine saw this as God entering his world. This is a reminder that no one is beyond the reach of God. Peter is overwhelmed with gratitude and guilt as Jesus gives him a great catch. God is not looking for self-confident people. He is looking for people who are aware of their inadequacies and weaknesses. When you encounter the Holy God, you realize how sinful you are. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now, on you’ll be fishing for men!”(Luke 5:10) The Lord said we can catch men alive.Either we do it, or the devil does. Luke 5:11 (NLT)And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. The word for followed signifies the “deepest inward attachment.” #1 A fisherman needs to be patient. The Bible compares evangelism to farming.1 Corinthians 3:6–8 We live in a microwave society, but God often works like a slow cooker. Ecclesiastes 7:8a (ESV)Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. #2 A good fisherman must persevere. God doesn't grade us on our closing percentage. He grades us on our obedience. #3 A good fisherman must know to go to the right place at the right time. #4 A good fisherman must have skill. We learn effective skills through experience. We learn to build a bridge rather than to burn it. One of the best ways to share the gospel with someone is to listen. Know the word of God.2 Timothy 2:15 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. # 5 A good fisherman must know how to work with others. Cooperation is the key to effectively sharing your faith. God specializes in turning sinners into saints. — Become a Harvest Partner today and join us in knowing God and making Him known through media and large-scale evangelism, our mission of over 30 years.
