Steven and Ian begin with an extended Cinema-cast about one of the biggest movies of the year, One Battle After Another (1:23), as well as an anticipated release coming later this month, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (10:56). Then they do their fantasy draft for the year's Q4, and propose a rule change to the draft (29:07). Also, did Steven make a huge mistake? We'll see! After that, they use a new Richard Ashcroft album as an excuse to talk about a band they both love, The Verve, and where they land in the hierarchy of '90s Britpop (45:41). Finally, they do a "yay or nay" on My Morning Jacket's classic album Z, upon its 20th anniversary (56:42).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the Philly band Nyxy Nyx and Steven talks about Minneapolis rocker Will Olsen (59:54).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. AJR are a multi-platinum trio of brothers who started busking in NYC in 2005, and have gone on to release 10 records/EPs (mostly independently, with only 1 major label release), rack up 8+ platinum singles (some multi) and 1 platinum record, nominations for Billboard, iHeartRadio, and American Music Awards, and tours selling out places such as Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. We talk with Jack and Ryan about vulnerability as strength, being able to laugh at yourself, failing quickly and moving on, staying fresh and agile creatively, connecting on a human granular level, surviving the comment section, and a whole lot more.Get more access and support this show by subscribing to our Patreon, right here.Links:AJREp46 - Mary Chapin CarpenterChris MartinClick here to watch this conversation on YouTube.Social Media:The Other 22 Hours InstagramThe Other 22 Hours TikTokMichaela Anne InstagramAaron Shafer-Haiss InstagramAll music written, performed, and produced by Aaron Shafer-Haiss. ANCIENT THRONES' New Concept Album "Melancholia" "Melancholia" is a 42-minute concept album that plunges listeners into a surreal narrative: a colourblind protagonist takes hallucinogens in a desperate attempt to see colour, only to spiral into a kaleidoscopic nightmare. The last record was intended to be poetic and hopeful, but this record intends to crush any ounce of hope that is left. We just want as many people to move to our music as possible, whether it's at home, at a show, or anywhere in between.Click Here to Subscribe to The Adventures of Pipeman for PERKS, BONUS Content & FREE GIVEWAYS!Pipeman in the Pit is a music, festival, and interview segment of The Adventures of Pipeman Radio Show (#pipemanradio) and from The King of All Festivals while on The Pipeman Radio Tour. On this episode of Bringin' It Backwards, Adam and Tera Lisicky sit down with Ivy and Mabel, the sister duo behind the stunning folk act Charm of Finches. Hailing from the heart of Melbourne, Australia, these two share what it was like growing up in a musical family—complete with a mom who led choirs and once performed electronic music standing on her head! From busking as kids outside their dad's veggie shop to recording their very first EP at just 12 and 14, and then emerging as one of Australia's most beloved new folk acts, Ivy and Mabel walk us through their remarkable journey. The sisters chat about carving their own independent path, capturing inspiration during long tours abroad, and the fairytale origins of their latest album's title—Marlinchen in the Snow. They reflect on how winning the Best Folk Album at the Australian Folk Music Awards changed things, offer real talk about sibling dynamics in music, and open up about learning the DIY side of the industry, from recording at home to editing their own videos. Plus, they've got some solid advice for aspiring artists about staying honest in your craft and doing it yourself wherever you can. Stick around to hear candid stories about life on the road, sisterhood, and why creative vulnerability matters more than ever. Whether you're gunning for your own spot in the spotlight or just want a peek into the making of today's rising indie stars, you don't want to miss this conversation with Charm of Finches. What influenced the sound of the music? Is there a submarine in the film? The episode in which we ask the expert all the questions about AI and making music, as it stands today: what can AI actually do? What is it going to be able to do next month? Next year? How do we retain rights? How do you ethically train AI models? Is our work safe? Is it protected? Are musicians done? What about AI bands eating up the streaming money? Drew Thurlow is the former SVP of A&R at Sony Masterworks, Director of Artist Partnerships at Pandora, and part of the A&R/marketing team at Nonesuch Records, and is currently the founder of the Lone Wolves Community - a music business and tech community and think tank, is founder of Opening Ceremony Media where he consults on AI strategy and more to companies such as RocNation, and has a book coming out in 2026 titled, “Machine Music: How AI is Transforming Music's Next Act."Get more access and support this show by subscribing to our Patreon, right here.Links:Drew ThurlowLone Wolves CommunityEp 111 - Bandcamp Editorial Director J Edward KeyesEp 109 - Major JacksonTiestoVelvet SundownTimbaland's AI labelSunoAnthropicJustin TranterClick here to watch this conversation on YouTube.Social Media:The Other 22 Hours InstagramThe Other 22 Hours TikTokMichaela Anne InstagramAaron Shafer-Haiss InstagramAll music written, performed, and produced by Aaron Shafer-Haiss. After that, they talk about the new Ethel Cain album and disagree slightly on its strengths and weaknesses (24:13). They also note the arrival of a new Chance The Rapper album, and how such news would have been a much bigger deal 10 years ago (33:43). Then they do a "yay or nay" on My Chemical Romance (46:00).In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the slow-core band Teethe and Steven goes for veteran indie rocker Cass McCombs (49:52).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. We open this week in a very unexpected place: "Home," the 2010 hit by Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros, which had a viral moment this week that went on for days. What is it about this song that people hate so much, and what are some of the actual worst songs of all time? (0:58)The guys also talk about the recent Billy Joel documentary, which Ian recently watched, and pick the modern-day equivalent to the Piano Man (16:47). After a brief check-in on the Fantasy Album Draft (27:45), Steven and Ian run down a list of classic albums turning 20 in the next month or so, including landmark releases from My Morning Jacket, the New Pornographers, Wolf Parade, and more (30:42). They also do a "yay or nay" segment on Death Cab For Cutie (41:24).In Recommendation Corner, Ian recommends Anamanaguchi and Steven stumps for Tyler Childers (49:07).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday.
