Nejhorší je pocit bezradnosti, se kterým se dá bojovat jenom tím, že člověk něco prostě jde a něco začne dělat,“ říká herec Marek Adamczyk. Právě potřeba nebýt jen pasivním pozorovatelem ho přivedla k angažmá v Herecké asociaci a k jednáním s politiky a zástupci kulturního sektoru. Zároveň ale svůj vlastní život v posledních letech vědomě zpomalil: staví ho hlavně kolem rodiny, větší role dnes odmítá a říká, že čas a energii raději dává ženě Evě Adamczykové a jejich synovi. Přiznává, že si to může dovolit i proto, že jeho žena nepotřebuje, aby ji živil. Místo představy, že muž musí být za každou cenu hlavním živitelem, mu dává větší smysl věnovat čas tam, kde ho rodina skutečně potřebuje. Přitom ještě před několika lety v obdobích herecké nejistoty přemýšlel, jestli se neučit norsky, programovat nebo nestudovat filozofii. Univerzálním návodům příliš nevěří ani ve vztazích a rodičovství. Tradiční rozdělení mužských a ženských rolí podle něj může být určitým výchozím modelem, absurdní ale je držet se ho bez ohledu na konkrétní dva lidi. Po narození syna s manželkou Evou zjistili, že největší nebezpečí pro partnerský vztah je ztráta společného času, který si teď musejí vědomě vytvářet. A ani vztah k dítěti podle něj nevzniká automaticky v jediném okamžiku. „I ta žena si ho nějakým způsobem buduje,“ říká. Respektující výchovu si nastudoval, zároveň už pochopil, že když se rodičovské poučky podaří naplnit třeba ze třetiny, je to velký úspěch. Silné rodinné zázemí považuje i za jednu z věcí, které ho formovaly v dětství. Jeho dědeček prošel nacismem, komunismem, zákazem práce i Chartou 77 a s Adamczykem později četl Patočku a debatoval o Evropě, umění nebo humanismu. Herec mluví o „hodnotové zakotvenosti“, která podle něj prostupuje celou rodinou a vede ho k přesvědčení, že nestačí určité hodnoty jen zastávat. Současné vedení Ministerstva kultury proto kritizuje kvůli způsobu, jakým přistoupilo ke státní kulturní politice, zároveň odmítá představu, že herec má díky své známosti automaticky mandát komentovat všechno. „Člověk se musí vyjadřovat k tomu, čemu rozumí,“ říká.
