From running on a treadmill in a hot air balloon, to becoming a dad, Reece Edwards is always the first to put his hand up for a new adventure. In this conversation, we talk about his new running life as a dad to Oliver, what dad strength means to Reece and how his perspective on running has changed since his son arrived. Between constant sickness, reduced sleep and balancing family and work life, it's not easy to train at such a high level. But Reece says it's all worth it to be a dad! This episode is part of a mini-series featuring some of our mighty marathon mums (or in this case, dads)! We talk about his recent back-to-back wins at Port Fairy Marathon and what it was like to reel in two Olympians to break the tape at Melbourne Marathon in 2023. We also cover the importance of keeping some “silliness” and fun in Reece's training, why running is better when it's social, his goals for the future (including an outrageous long run), and what it feels like to actually be content with your PBs. -- Reece Edwards is a long and ultra distance runner who came to the sport later in life. He ran 2:13:23 at Rotterdam Marathon in 2021 and has a PB of 1:03:38 in the half marathon, which he ran the same year in Copenhagen. Domestically, he won Melbourne Marathon in 2023 and Port Fairy Marathon in 2024 and 2025. Reece has also been successful on the trails, winning several prestigious events including, Ultra Trail Australia 100k, Tarawera 102k and Berry Long run.

A course record fell at the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon but it wasn't the one everyone expected as Tamirat Tola became the first man under 2:05 in NY running 2:04:58. 'Life's what happens when you're making plans'.

Hello "Feel Good" Runners! How is everyone? All good? Running well? As we wind down April, the Boston Marathon is now behind us. The weather seemed to have held up well and some really great running stories came out of the marathon this year. I feature a few of them in my news segment. Congratulations to all of you that participated this year and hope you had a great time. This episode I talk about the Boston Marathon and the news segment include a few inspirational stories from this years race. If you ran it, consider sending a voice message and share how your run was this year. Just click the orange tap on the right of the page and you will have three minutes. My guest's this episode are a wonderful Maui couple, Sam & Lindsey Wilbur. Lindsey is one of the top female runners here on Maui and she also runs marathons. She has completed 18 full marathons and 5 have been Boston. Earlier this month she did the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands. Lindsey's husband Sam is a former runner and had aspirations to be on the Olympic team. A professional runner for New Balance he made 5 USATF National Teams and competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic trials in the Steeplechase but got eliminated in the semi-finals each time. Retiring from running in 2002, he now dabbles as an individual running coach and operates a small race management business, Maui Running (https://www.mauirunning.com/) . This company puts on several corporate fun runs each year on the island. Sam's passion and #1 goal is to travel to every country in the world. He has already traveled to 107 countries out of 196 so he has 89 to go. And he travels expending very little money which he does churning credit cards. Please don't try this unless you are a very detailed person. World Wide Wilbur (http://www.worldwidewilbur.com/) . With everything going on in Sam & Lindsey's live their most important job is being parents to two wonderful boys! Also during my opening, I talk about my frustration recently heading out for a run and my watch beeps low battery. This is user error on my part and I have no idea what is wrong with me. Post it notes might be my ticket to remember to do things! Aside from talking about this years Boston Marathon, I finish up with some interesting statistics (STATS!) from the recently released 2018 National Runner Survey from (https://runningusa.org/) . And finally I thank you so much for listening. I enjoy brining to you this Podcast 2 times per month and hope to expand it more in the future. It does take quite a bit of time and right now we do not have sponsors or any type of income for the show. I do this because I love doing it but hope to attract sponsors in the future. That said, I could really use your help by sharing the Podcast with your running friends and through Social Media. And also important is to leave a review on Apple Podcast! Reviews help to increase exposure for the show and attracts new listeners. So if you can do this for me I can keep bringing you a good running podcast. I appreciate all my listeners! Two Fit Crazies & A Microphone Podcast Episode 96 – Roberta Groner – World Class Runner – Full Time Nurse – Mother of 3 In Episode 96 the Fit Crazies have the honor of rapping with the ridiculously fast and remarkably humble Super Mom, Roberta Groner, age 41, of Randolph, NJ. Literally, just 2 hours off the plane home, Roberta gives us the low down on her phenomenal, news making 2:29:06, 5th place performance against a world class field at the Rotterdam Marathon. To put it simply, Roberta has a story for the ages. After competitive high school and, albeit shortened, collegiate careers, running went away. Roberta spent the next decade building her career in nursing and starting a family. But a flame was rekindled after joining some office cohorts and running the Pittsburg Half Marathon just 10 years ago. This led to a marathon in Chicago and an impressive 3-hour 12-minute (3:12) debut. But she was just getting started, a Sub 3 hour run in her second marathon was followed by races in the 2:40’s and then a true burst onto the scene with her 2:37 victory at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in 2016. Just Flying!!!! All of this, along with a 2:30:38, 3rd place finish at the California International Marathon in 2017 has stamped Roberta’s place among the nation’s and world’s elites. In fact, we’d bet that if the 41-year-old, full time nurse, divorced mother of three had rubbed a lamp and was granted running wishes, Roberta probably would have sold herself short in what she wished for. What’s it like to run a 2:29 and an IAAF/Olympic Standard? At 41 years of age, while still working full time and a divorced mother of three, how does she fit it all in? What are the differences in training blocks as she continues to grow as a runner? What is it like working with a new coach in Steve Magness? Do her boys know how cool their mom is? What are her nutrition and recovery routines like? What is her advice for and/or secret to success? And most importantly; What’s Next???? Whatever your role in athletics or fitness or life, Roberta’s story is not to be missed! Get Your Inspiration Here, In Episode 96! Let’s Roll! Breakthroughs and debuts in the “Gateway to Europe”, the running of the Rotterdam Marathon proves it’s speedy reputation to some of the Canucks who chose to cross the pond, and with the High Park Hill killed for another year, it was some familiar faces who took the titles at the Toronto Race Roster Spring Run Off. This is Chris, your endurance partner for today's workout. Today we have a chat with Gene Dykes who is currently knocking down most of the over 70 distance records. He's found some sort of fountain of youth and just keep s getting faster. In section one I'll give you an update on my 100 miler training and what I've learned. In Section two I'll talk about the aging athlete. Buddy the elderly wonder dog is hanging in there. He goes the first 2 miles of all my trail runs with me. He got 5 runs in last week. Then he sleeps. I sometimes have to carry him up the stairs when his back hips don't work. And I don't expect him to jump up into my truck anymore. It's ok. He's done his part. Now it's my turn. I've been training consistently. Typically 6 miles Tuesday, 10 Wednesday and 6 Thursday then back-to-back longs on the weekends. It's not a bad cadence. The trails are drying out. The mosquitoes are out but those only get me if I stop too long. As we get into the summer the deer flies will show up and I'll have to get some of those sticky patches. They are real pests. I booked my hotel for the ultra. And I got some wonderful news today. Dirtdawg and JustFinish aka Mike Croy and Kevin Green are going to crew and pace for me. Both those guys have run this course. This is a big bonus. … I got a haircut this weekend, actually on Memorial Day. The place I usually go was closed for the holiday. I went to a lower end clip joint chain that was open. I was a bit afraid with the guy I got. I haven't had high quality experiences with this chain. But I had a business trip and needed to get it cleaned up. The kid was wearing a wrinkled white tee-shirt, looked rather slept-in, with a sleeveless black denim vest covered in studs. Quite disheveled. He had goth tattoos all over him and piercings. Showing my age and upbringing I wondered if putting my grey head in his hands was a smart thing to do. I had just finished reading Catra Corbett's new book about how she was a goth meth addict before she got in to ultra-running. But, looking at this kid I figured he was a bit overweight to be an addict. Besides, it's not hard to cut my hair, what's left of it that is. You can't really screw it up. He did a very precise job. Worked me over like I was some important bonsai topiary. Even worked on my crazy old-man eyebrows. I really need to work on my assumptions and stop profiling people. I had fun – it's always fun to talk about running! I've attached a couple recent pictures that were pretty good: One shows me during a 24-hour track race a couple weeks ago (I only ran for 14 hours of the Dawn To Dusk To Dawn, though) where I set USATF age group track records for 50K, 50 miles, 100K, and 12 hours. The other shows me at the finish line of the Rotterdam Marathon on April 8, where I ran 2:57:48 to eclipse Ed Whitlock's 3:00:23 world age 70 record. Section two – Running into the Sunset – Outro OK my friends you have set an impressive age group record while progressing to the end of episode 4-387, nice work. Two of my training buddies, from my age group had a good day at the Vermont Cities marathon over the weekend. They got great weather. Overcast and cool. Brian, who ran a 3:35 at Baystate with me in the fall, knocked out a 3:29 change! And Tim powered through to a 3:16. Now officially the slow guy again! Watched an great documentary on Netflix called Chuck Norris vs Communism about the impact of bootleg videos on Romanians in the 80's. It's been out for a while but I hadn't seen it yet. Really well done. You'll like it. Especially if you lived through that era. I have a big weekend coming up. If I can pull it off I'm going to run 35 on Saturday and another 20 on Sunday. Yikes! I had a good week – got all my runs in. I had a business trip to Salt Lake and I used that to practice more of this miserable, exhausted running that I'm supposed to be practicing. Ran 6 miles Tuesday morning. Flew out late to Salt Lake. Got about 5 hours sleep. Got up and went exploring Wednesday morning. I was originally aiming for the mountains but I ran by a canal, maybe a river, with a wide path so I turned onto that for the bulk of my run. I ended up getting around 9 miles in, partly because I was running short on time and partly because I ran into a fence. The canal trail literally ran into a chain link fence. I think it was because there was a school nearby and they were trying to keep the kids out. There was a kid size hole at the bottom. You know how they bend up the corner of the chain link to get under? But, I made the decision that I wasn't going to wriggle under a fence in the suburbs of West Jordan to get that last mile in. It was a nice run. The trail was wide and crushed rock and flat. It ran behind people's houses. A whole line of ¼ acre lots. It's always interesting to look into people's backyards in a voyeuristic way. Some people had gardens, some had chickens and some had angry dogs. The river or canal itself was what I would call grey water. I don't know if that is just the color of the water in Salt Lake or if it is some sort of legacy drainage system. It didn't smell bad, but it didn't make me want to go for a swim either. Since it's spring the canal was full of wild ducks and their little gangs of ducklings. I was subjective to maximum duckling cuteness the whole time as they scurried and paddled away from this strange lumbering thing on the trail in the slanting morning sun. I even passed a couple ‘joggers' out there. On my way back, when I left the trail I had to navigate the now bustling streets of suburbia. At one point I was coming up to an intersection and saw a crossing guard. These are the community volunteers who are posted at busy intersections near schools with a reflective vest, a held held stop placard and a righteous attitude. As I was lumbering up the sidewalk towards the intersection I caught the vigilant woman's eyes and gave her the conspiratorial nod. She moved out and stopped traffic for me! I tipped my hat and said “You're the best!” The world is a good place filled with good people. I'll see you out there! MarathonBQ – How to Qualify for the Boston Marathon in 14 Weeks -

First, I want to say a massive thank you to everybody who's taken to social media to say 'well done' for my PB at Rotterdam Marathon last weekend. The legs are a little sore still, but I'm a happy boy! In this follow-up episode to yesterday's more complete debrief, I wanted to talk a little about how I went about losing 10kg in my preparation for Rotterdam Marathon. The mileage certainly helped, but it was the changes to my nutritional habits that made all the difference! I hope this will help some of you in your journey to figure out what approach to nutrition will work for you and your running :) Check out our FREE thirty day challenge: www.kinetic-revolution.com/30daychallenge/?sc=anchor

She was named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week for her performance. In 2015, Desiree participated at the Boston Marathon which featured a strong international field and the top three US marathoners.
