Author Meg Ripley joins us for this excursion into Area 51, and more importantly, into the psyche of one Mr. William Shatner. We're talking about GROOM LAKE, a completely forgotten 2002 passion project (vanity project?) written and directed by Shatner. We dig into the wild history of this film, which turned out to be one of the most challenging and expensive of Full Moon's early-aughts output, as well as dissect some of the film's more... interesting choices. But, here’s a local story of interest: After seven years of planning, a new seniors lodge will be built in Vulcan to replace the Peter Dawson Lodge, which was built in 1963. According to spokesperson Kelly Nelson, while the Dawson Lodge is reportedly in “really good shape,” it no longer meets current building standards. “The rooms are too small, we have inside rooms without any windows to the outside,” said Nelson, adding seniors don't want to move in until they have a room with a window. The new facility, expected to open in 2028, will have 62 affordable-housing units. Vulcan Mayor Tom Grant said Thursday the new facility will be a “win-win” for the community. The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour with Andy Riesmeyer Hour 4 (7.23) KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff calls in live with the latest on day 3 of the D4vd murder hearing — and it’s as grim as it gets. Singer David Burke remains in court as prosecutors continue laying out the case in the killing of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The details are not for the faint of heart. Andy rolls into TalkBacks and the calls are flying: Is Shadow the eagle really flying between multiple nests in Big Bear like some kind of avian player? And the eternal debate rages on — is it “Eagles” or “The Eagles”? In-studio guest KTLA entertainment producer Christine Samra joins Andy to break down the so-called “Drake Curse” — why is the multimillionaire always crying and losing big bets? There’s even a website dedicated to it (thedrakecurse.com), and the internet’s advice is simple: Bet the opposite of whatever Drake does. More with Christine as they discuss William Shatner, who recently revealed he’s been quietly battling stage IV cancer for years while his daughter Melanie fought stage IV breast cancer at the same time. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Trek First Contact. Made to celebrate Star Trek's 30th anniversary, Star Trek First Contact marked the first time we saw the Borg on the silver screen, and for the third cast member of a Star Trek series to direct a Star Trek motion picture following Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. Plus, elements from this film would influence the 2003 episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, and quite potentially the design aesthetic from that point onward. She Was 500 Years Off! The Hilarious Minute-to-Win-It Moment You Have to Hear How far off can one answer be and still have everyone laughing? On this entertaining episode of The JB and Sandy Show, the crew tackles the realities of getting older with a hilarious conversation about unexpected hair growth, eyebrow battles, and Tricia's ongoing “whisker war.” What starts as a relatable discussion about aging quickly turns into one of the funniest exchanges of the morning. The show also dives into the aftermath of Central Texas flooding, with updates on lake restrictions, dam operations, and the remarkable power of moving water. Sandy shares stories about people gathering to watch water rush through Mansfield Dam, while the team reflects on the lasting impact these weather events can have across the region. Plus, in Care Don't Care, the gang uncovers some of the delightfully eccentric requests reportedly associated with William Shatner. From unusual transportation preferences to dressing room demands, the conversation proves that some personalities only get more interesting with age. You'll also hear a fascinating story about Austin firefighters using real-world flood conditions to sharpen their swift-water rescue skills, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the training and dedication that keeps communities safe. And then comes the unforgettable edition of JB and Sandy's Minute to Win It. Contestant Gracie is cruising through the questions until one history question creates an instant classic radio moment. When she confidently misses the year Columbus sailed by about five centuries, the laughter that follows is pure JB and Sandy gold. Memorable Moments: “We're fighting the ear, nose, and eyebrow hair.” Tricia's declaration: “I'm winning the whisker war.” The contestant who was “about 500 years off” on a history question. A hilarious deep dive into William Shatner's larger-than-life personality. Enjoyed the show? Be sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with your friends so they can join the fun and catch every unforgettable moment from The JB and Sandy Show.
