On A Bowl of Soul we are continuing the celebration of February is Black History Month. We celebrate the legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist and ordained Baptist minister. In 1972, Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Push Coalition organized a Black expo in 1972 which featured Black businesses, art, educational institutions (HBCU's) and political leaders. Many Black musical artists performed during this expo which is highlighted in the film called "Save the Children" On A Bowl of Soul we celebrate the musical artists who perfomed at this concert. We celebrate Rev. Also, we are celebrating our new ancestor, Lamonte McLemore, singer with the 5th Dimension. Lamonte was a singer, composer, actor, photographer and baseball player. Not only was Lamonte well known for singing with the superstar group, the 5th Dimension, he was a photographer for Ebony and Jet Magazines for over 40 years. Lamonte was the first African American athlete to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals. After he moved to Los Angeles, he was a minor league strong-arm pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a short time. Lamonte McLemore was definitely part of Black History. Woodson who founded the Association for the study of African American Life and History. We celebrate Black History with some Classic Soul and New R&B from Maggie Ray and Jill Scott. Also, we celebrate our new ancestors, Richard Smallwood and Demond Wilson who passed away in January. J'ai choisi de vivre à Paris, et je me sens plus moi-même, plus expressive et plus à l'aise ici qu'à Londres, et davantage appréciée et reconnue en tant qu'artiste aussi. Mais il y a des microagressions et des microracismes auxquels nous devons faire face chaque jour en tant que personnes de couleur. C'est d'abord par le saxophone qu'il a fait ses premières armes dans la musique au CRR d'Amiens. Après une Maîtrise d'Histoire sur la bande dessinée et les Pieds Nickelés de Louis Forton, il a fait ses premiers pas sur scène, fin des années 90, en participant au lancement d'un studio avec une bande d'amis : Cité Carter, dans l'effervescence de la scène amiénoise à laquelle il participe. Il s'exile à Paris en accompagnant Toma Sidibé sur scène durant une tournée marathon de trois années. Été 2022. Enthousiasmée par un récent baptême de plongée, la compositrice et batteuse française part au Portugal pour s'immerger dans les fonds marins. Dans de l'eau tant glaciale que trouble, elle découvre une émotion proche de l'extase, que Romain Rolland appelait le «sentiment océanique». Un mélange de ressentis convoquant apesanteur, plénitude et dissolution du temps. Ainsi, l'eau devient symbole de renouveau et lieu de contemplation. De quoi donner naissance à de nouvelles chansons. Entre prières païennes sublimées par Mah Damba et du Groove à la nantaise gorgé d'afro-soul-jazz et hip hop avec un balafon de compétition. Créé en 2019, par le violoniste Clément Janinet avec Élodie Pasquier aux clarinettes et Bruno Ducret au violoncelle, La Litanie des Cimes joue avec les grands mouvements, les tempos lents d'apparence, et des contemplations harmoniques. Avec plus de 70 concerts en trio, La Litanie explorera de nouveaux horizons avec la chanteuse malienne Mah Damba en 2025 et avec la pianiste Estonienne Kirke Karja  en 2026. Augmentées de la présence envoûtante de Mah Damba, les prières païennes de La Litanies des Cimes sont de petits hymnes augmentés de la puissance de l'art des griots. Car Mah Damba - reconnue par ses pairs comme l'une des plus grandes chanteuses maliennes en activité - est une djeli (le sang), une griotte mandingue dont la voix déploie des trésors de louanges aussi complexes qu'immédiates. Composant sous des couches de couettes dans son appartement de l'Opéra, elle puisait sa chaleur non pas dans son environnement, mais dans les souvenirs du soleil des Caraïbes qu'elle venait de quitter. Ce qui devait être un voyage de deux semaines en décembre 2020 s'est transformé en deux ans et demi entre la Barbade, la Grenade — où ses parents avaient grandi — puis la Jamaïque, un long séjour qui lui a offert un nouveau sentiment d'identité. «Vivre en Jamaïque, c'était la première fois que j'habitais dans un pays à majorité noire», dit-elle. «Les Jamaïcains sont très eux-mêmes, sans s'excuser. J'ai choisi de vivre à Paris, et je me sens plus moi-même, plus expressive et plus à l'aise ici qu'à Londres, et davantage appréciée et reconnue en tant qu'artiste aussi. Mais il y a des microagressions et des microracismes auxquels nous devons faire face chaque jour en tant que personnes de couleur. Quand je suis sortie de cet environnement, je me suis dit : «Merde, c'est ça que je gérais tout ce temps.» J'avançais simplement en acceptant certains comportements négatifs comme un acte de survie mentale.» En Jamaïque, elle a collaboré avec Sly Dunbar, l'un des batteurs légendaires de l'île, le sortant presque de sa retraite pour une session improvisée. Sunshine Music vibre du souvenir de cette chaleur : une tapisserie d'influences mêlant calypso, jazz, bossa nova et le grand répertoire d'après-guerre, le tout tissé par la voix et la sensibilité singulières d'ALA.NI. Tout au long de l'album, des styles familiers sont honorés sans pastiche : la langueur du reggae, le souffle d'un rythme bossa nova, la diction nette du théâtre musical.
