This week, Anne welcomes Ann Huff and Meg Harrington, the visionary duo behind Huff Harrington, for a conversation on how a meeting over lunch in Atlanta grew into one of designs most admired creative partnerships. Ann and Meg share the evolution of their brand — from selling art out of their kitchens to building a multifaceted business spanning galleries, interiors, retail, curated travel, and Parisian renovations.Along the way, they reflect on entrepreneurship, the power of complementary strengths, navigating challenges with grace, and the lessons they've learned about building a business rooted in trust, beauty, and resilience. They also dive into the art of curation — how to mix old and new, why craftsmanship matters, and the guiding philosophy behind every piece they source: if you love it, it will work. This episode is an inspiring look at creating a brand with soul, designing with instinct, and building a life — and business — around beauty, story, and connection. Send us Fan MailThe Florida Keys Overseas Highway is a living corridor of reefs, bridges, history, and local tradition. We sit down with journalist and photographer Andy Newman, who spent 44 years with the Florida Keys Tourism Council, to build a true start-to-finish Florida Keys road trip.We talk logistics: how long the drive takes, why the mile markers function like addresses, and when you can get away without hotel reservations. From there, we trace the story behind the islands themselves: Henry Flagler's Overseas Railroad, the 1935 Labor Day hurricane, and how the modern highway opened the Keys to a different kind of traveler. Then we start the itinerary. Key Largo brings John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the Christ of the Deep, plus smart reminders about the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and boating responsibly around shallow, sensitive habitat. Islamorada delivers sport fishing culture, the History of Diving Museum, and the simple joy of hand-feeding tarpon. Marathon adds the Dolphin Research Center, Aquarium Encounters, the Turtle Hospital, and a walk into history on Pigeon Key. The Lower Keys bring Bahia Honda beaches, key deer, and even an Underwater Music Festival. Key West rounds it out with the Conch Republic story, Hemingway Days, six-toed cats, sunset celebration at Mallory Square, and the option to reach Dry Tortugas National Park and Fort Jefferson. If you love travel stories with practical tips, local food, and real history, this one's for you. What if time isn't something to chase, but something to experience? In a world that constantly urges us to move faster, do more, and keep up, this conversation with Ryan Enslin offers a different perspective. A gentler one.As a journalist and photographer from Johannesburg, South Africa, Ryan has learned that some places seem to exist outside the pace of modern life. One of those places is St Helena Island, a remote island in the South Atlantic that has profoundly shaped the way he thinks about time and presence. And what it means to truly pay attention. In this inspiring episode of Speaking of Travel, Ryan shares how travel can become much more than a journey to a destination. Together we explore the remarkable story of St Helena Island while reflecting on self-discovery, resilience, curiosity, and the importance of living with intention in a fast-moving world.Ryan's experiences remind us that meaningful travel isn't measured by the number of places we visit, but by our willingness to be present for the moments that change us."When the distractions fall away, you begin to realize time isn't passing you by. You're finally present for it."If you've been searching for perspective or simply a conversation that nourishes the soul, this episode is a beautiful reminder that some places can change our relationship with time, not because the clock moves differently, but because we do.

Some places do not ask for your attention. They change you quietly. You arrive carrying noise, deadlines, distractions and the weight of everyday life. And then somewhere between the trees, the silence, the air itself, something begins to soften. You remember there is another way to live in the world. More connected. More awake. More human. This episode of Speaking of Travel lives inside that feeling. What unfolds here is more than a discussion about nature or stewardship. It is a reflection on presence, on caring deeply for the land and for one another, and on the quiet power of creating spaces where people can reconnect to something larger than themselves.Drake Fowler, Executive Director of The North Carolina Arboretum, brings a rare kind of humanity to this conversation... thoughtful, grounded, compassionate, and deeply aware of the relationship between the natural world and the human spirit. You can hear the sincerity in his story and feel the intention behind the work being done.At the heart of this episode is a sacred connection and understanding that nature is not separate from us, but essential to who we are as human beings. Through stories, reflections, and insight, we explore the ways wild spaces can restore us and reconnect us to ourselves and to each other. This conversation is filled with authenticity and quiet wisdom and reminds us that places created with intention and care can become sanctuaries where people feel seen and are welcomed. Through education, conservation, and community connection, the NC Arboretum is a place where nature and humanity meet in meaningful ways. This is a beautiful and heartfelt conversation that will leave you inspired and comforted. And perhaps seeing the world a little differently. ❤️Thanks for listening to Speaking of Travel! With more than 25 years of experience leading short-term volunteer adventures in over 25 countries, Founder of Globe Aware, Kimberly Haley Coleman, has helped thousands of travelers turn meaningful impact into a core part of their journey. Her work has been featured on major platforms like CNN, The Today Show, and The New York Times—and for good reason. This conversation goes beyond travel tips. It's about shifting your mindset from simply seeing the world to truly connecting with it. How It All Started: The Traveler Behind the Mission Kimberly's love for travel didn't start with a perfectly curated itinerary—it started with curiosity and connection. Inspired early on by a sense of global wonder, she began traveling internationally and quickly realized that the most meaningful experiences weren't found in tourist attractions—but in human connection. That realization became the foundation for her nonprofit, Globe Aware. What began as a vision to connect travelers with communities around the world has grown into a globally recognized nonprofit offering structured, ethical, and sustainable service programs. And while Kimberly has traveled across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa, it's not just the destinations that stand out—it's the people, the resilience, and the shared humanity she's encountered along the way. Redefining “Volunteer Travel” Let's address the elephant in the room: Is volunteer travel just “poverty tourism”? Kimberly doesn't shy away from this conversation. She explains that ethical, impactful travel is about partnership—not saviorism. It's about working with communities, not for them. The goal isn't to “fix” anything—it's to support locally driven initiatives in a meaningful and sustainable way. What Ethical Travel Looks Like: Programs led by or in partnership with local communities Projects that address real, ongoing needs—not short-term optics Cultural exchange that goes both ways Green Flags to Look For: Transparency about where your time and money go Long-term relationships within the community A balance between service and cultural immersion Red Flags: Programs that center the volunteer over the community Lack of clear impact or follow-through “Feel-good” experiences with no sustainable outcome What a Globe Aware Trip Actually Feels Like So what does a week of service travel really look like? Imagine landing in a destination like Peru. You're welcomed into a community, introduced to your project, and quickly become part of something bigger than yourself. Over the course of the week, you might: Help build infrastructure, like schools or housing Support environmental or conservation efforts Work alongside locals on community-driven initiatives And no, you don't need special skills or to speak the language. What you do need is an open mind. Travelers often leave these trips surprised—not just by what they've seen, but by what they've learned about themselves. There's growth, perspective, and yes… sometimes even tears. Because when you step outside your comfort zone, you start to see the world—and your place in it—differently. Balancing Impact & Adventure One of the most unique aspects of Globe Aware trips is the balance. You're not volunteering 24/7. Typically, about 30 hours of your week are dedicated to service, leaving plenty of time to explore, experience local culture, and enjoy the destination. It's not about sacrificing travel—it's about enhancing it. The Personal Growth Side of Travel Kimberly's journey isn't just about building a nonprofit—it's about what travel taught her along the way. Leaving a high-level corporate career to pursue Globe Aware came with challenges, but also clarity. Through her work, she's learned: Resilience from communities facing adversity The power of connection across cultures That leadership looks different around the world And after more than two decades, what still moves her most? The people. Who Is This Type of Travel For? Short answer: almost everyone. Globe Aware trips are designed for: Solo travelers looking for a deeper connection Families wanting meaningful shared experiences Students seeking perspective before entering the workforce Corporate teams building a purpose-driven culture There are minimal age restrictions, and no prior experience is required. Practical Tips Before You Go If you're considering a service trip, here's what Kimberly recommends: Mentally prepare: Go in with humility, not expectations. Stay open: You're there to learn just as much as you are to help. Don't stress about skills: Your presence and willingness matter more than expertise. Safety: Programs are structured and vetted—safety is always a priority. The Bigger Picture: Can Travel Change the World? Kimberly believes it can. When people experience different cultures firsthand, it fosters empathy, understanding, and connection—things the world needs more of. Her hope for the future of travel? That more travelers shift from asking “What can I get from this trip?” to “What can I give—and what can I learn?” Final Thoughts This episode is a reminder that travel isn't just about where you go—it's about how you show up when you get there. And sometimes, the most unforgettable trips aren't the ones where you saw the most—but the ones where you felt the most. Ready to travel with purpose? If you've been wanting a trip that goes beyond sightseeing—one where you can truly make an impact, learn about a culture, and connect with locals while exploring incredible destinations—this is your sign. We've partnered with Globe Aware to help YOU experience a different kind of travel: one-week service adventures in places like Peru, Costa Rica, Cambodia, and more. You'll spend part of your trip assisting and connecting with local communities—while also discovering the culture, food, and beauty of each destination. No special skills needed—just an open mind and a willingness to show up and immerse yourself. If this sounds like your kind of adventure, we'd love to help you get started. Email us at thetravelbrats@gmail.com with the subject line “GLOBE AWARE TRIP”, and we'll send you a code for $100 off your first Globe Aware booking. Some conversations stay with you because of what a person has accomplished. Others stay with you because of who that person became along the way. Internationally acclaimed bassoonist Frank Morelli is both. His story is about far more than music. It's about what happens when a lifetime of dedication shapes not only an artist, but a human being. There's something deeply moving about a person who spends a lifetime devoted to music and still meets the world with humility and a genuine sense of wonder. In this heartfelt episode of Speaking of Travel, Frank reflects on the deeper journey behind a life in music and the ways it shaped not only his career, but his understanding of purpose and gratitude. For more than 60 years, Frank's path has carried him around the world, from concert halls and international performances to decades spent mentoring and encouraging young musicians. Yet what stands out most is not simply his remarkable career, but the kindness and sincerity he brings to every part of his life. There is a gentleness in Frank that immediately puts people at ease. Even after years of recognition and accomplishment, he remains deeply grateful for the experiences music has given him. His love for teaching shines throughout this episode, along with his belief that music can open hearts and create connection in ways few things can. This conversation moves beyond performance and into something far more human. It becomes a reflection on what happens when someone continues evolving through every season of life.“The longer I've lived with music, the less it feels like performance and the more it feels like gratitude.”Frank Morelli continues to inspire not only through his artistry, but through the quiet grace and humanity he brings to the world around him.

Vienna can feel like a living museum and a laid-back neighborhood on the same afternoon. We talk through how easy it is to get around on foot and by public transportation, where palace areas like Hofburg, Schönbrunn, and the Belvedere fit into a real day, and why seasonal markets mix architecture, craft, and local tradition. Cherie shares her favorite place to hear classical music, the Musikverein Golden Hall, plus the pull of the Vienna State Opera. Azdean visits Kristy Burns' Small Town Travels podcast to talk about how travellers can have a unique, and authentic, local experience in Morocco, on private and small group tours, like the ones offered by Destinations Morocco. Travel Small Towns takes the hook of travelling to small towns and integrates it with themes of things to see and do off the beaten path, away from big touristy sites, while exploring the lifestyle of small towns, and more accessible living. The notion of having more time, having more space, outdoor activities, and the feeling of walking down the street, bumping into people you know. She approached Azdean with the question of whether this exists in Morocco too, and they had an interesting discussion on local travel and travelling with strangers who become friends, and tour operators with local connections that the other big guys don't have. It's the notion of feeling like a local while you're there, which is exactly what Destination Morocco has promoted since they first started organizing tours with customized itineraries to Morocco. From riads to cultural experiences, supporting local artisans to having a smaller footprint when you travel, today's episode is catered to those looking for authenticity and genuine connection. You can find Travel Small Towns podcast on their website:https://travelsmalltownspodcast.com/on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/travelsmalltowns/?hl=enand listen on Spotify, Apple or wherever you listen to podcasts:https://open.spotify.com/show/6fPSa7p2f32VnQwAY67Ekphttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/travel-small-towns/id1641806563Join me for an 8-Day Boutique Moroccan Experience!Step inside the hidden Morocco on this first-of-its-kind, 12-spot journey, hosted personally by Azdean.November 8-15, 2026, $1995 USD Per PersonBook Your Spot Today! Tokyo vs. Paris: Two Completely Different Kinds of Magic Would you rather wander the electric streets of Tokyo or get cozy inside a vintage bookstore in Paris? Tokyo is a sensory overload in the best way possible. It's the kind of place where you don't need a plan—just walking around becomes the experience. You'll find vending machines selling everything from hot meals to mystery items, themed cafés (yes, even hedgehogs), and tiny restaurants that have perfected one dish over decades. Neighborhoods like Akihabara and Shibuya feel like stepping into the future, while places like Shimokitazawa bring a more indie, artsy vibe. Paris, on the other hand, is timeless. It's strolling past the Eiffel Tower at sunset, wandering through the Louvre, or sitting at a café for hours just people-watching. Neighborhoods like Le Marais and the Latin Quarter offer a mix of history, culture, and that effortlessly chic Parisian energy. Travel tip: In cities like these, don't over-plan. Leave room for curiosity—it's where the best moments happen. NYC vs. Italy: A Food Lover's Dream Would you rather eat your way through New York City or explore the regional flavors of Italy? New York is a global food capital. You can try world-class Korean BBQ, authentic Italian pasta, or fresh seafood—all within a few blocks. It's fast-paced, diverse, and constantly evolving. Italy, though, is an experience in itself. Every region has its own identity—from Neapolitan pizza in Naples to rich ragù in Bologna. Meals aren't rushed; they're meant to be savored. Think multiple courses, local wine, and recipes passed down for generations. Travel tip: In Italy, always order like a local: antipasti, primi, secondi, and dolci. It's not just a meal—it's a ritual. And always order regional dishes—no pizza in Venice! Rome vs. Bangkok: The Ride Matters Would you rather cruise through Rome on a Vespa or zip through Bangkok in a tuk-tuk? Rome on a Vespa is pure cinematic energy. You're weaving past ancient ruins, stopping for espresso in Trastevere, and catching sunset views from hidden hills. It's chaotic, yes—but it's also unforgettable. Bangkok's tuk-tuks are a whole different kind of thrill. They're fast, a little wild, and the perfect way to bounce between temples, markets, and street food spots. It's less about the destination and more about the ride. Travel tip: In Bangkok, always agree on a price before getting in a tuk-tuk. Trust us on this one. Rio Carnival vs. Times Square NYE: Expectation vs. Reality Would you rather celebrate Carnival in Rio de Janeiro or New Year's Eve in Times Square? Rio Carnival is vibrant, energetic, and completely immersive. Think music, dancing, elaborate costumes, and nonstop celebration. It's one of the most joyful festivals in the world. Times Square on New Year's Eve… is iconic, but also intense. Massive crowds, long waits, freezing temperatures, and very little personal space. It's one of those “once in a lifetime” experiences—but not necessarily for the right reasons. Travel tip: Sometimes the most famous experiences aren't the most enjoyable. Do your research and decide what kind of vibe you actually want. Lisbon vs. Barcelona: Hidden Gems or Rooftop Views? Would you rather uncover hidden corners in Lisbon or sip cocktails at rooftop bars in Barcelona? Lisbon is all about discovery. Quiet gardens, tucked-away bookstores, and local neighborhoods full of charm. It rewards slow travel and curiosity. Barcelona brings the energy—especially from above. Rooftop bars offer stunning views of the city, from the Sagrada Familia to the Mediterranean. It's lively, social, and perfect for soaking in the atmosphere. Travel tip: Balance both styles. Plan one to two “highlight” activities per day, and leave the rest open for exploring. Final Thoughts: The Best Travel Happens in Between No matter which destinations you choose, the real magic of travel isn't just in the landmarks—it's in the moments you don't plan. It's the café you stumble into. The street you didn't mean to turn down. The conversation with a local that changes your perspective. So next time you're exploring a city, give yourself permission to wander. Because getting a little lost? That's where the best stories begin. And if you're ready to take these ideas even further, this episode is packed with travel tips, cultural insights, and destination inspiration to help you explore beyond the tourist traps and plan a more meaningful trip—definitely one to listen to before your next adventure. See you next Travel Brat Tuesday. Until then, travel deeper, slow down, and don't be afraid to go beyond the obvious. Listen to the Episode Ready to explore Europe beyond the tourist traps? Send us Fan MailSicily is an Italian island in the Ionian sea between Italy and the African coast. Greece, Rome, the Arab world, and Norman Europe left remnants there that you can still experience. Chef, blogger, and tour director Ric Orlando tells us why Sicily feels different from the rest of Italy. His “deep dive” trips take the Anthony Bourdain approach seriously: spend time with locals, follow the market stalls, and let conversations set the pace.We get into Palermo's layered history, the Palatine Chapel's mosaics, Monreale, Teatro Massimo, and the city's street markets. Ric also explains how Sicily's volcanic soil around Mount Etna is changing the island today, from a booming Sicily wine scene to new crops driven by climate change, and why infrastructure outside the main tourist cities still shapes daily life. Then east to Catania, to the “Black City” built from dark volcanic stone. We linger at the pescheria fish market where small boats sell the morning's catch. We talk Sicilian flavor, especially the Arab influenced sweet and sour combinations, and we end with cannoli, farm made cheese, and the living traditions of Piana degli Albanesi. Finally, Taormina brings cliffside beauty, a Greek theater, an artistic past, along with the modern 'White Lotus' buzz, before Ric shares a personal memory that ties family photos back to a real village festival.Come wander through the best of Sicily with us. A decade ago to the day - 25th March 2016 - I launched the first episodes of The Thoughtful Travel Podcast. Somehow, I have just kept interviewing great people about their thoughts on travel, put together episodes almost every week, and magically, I've now been running this podcast for a full ten years! To celebrate, I've compiled some of my very favourite snippets of stories my guests have told me over the years. I've got the sad stories, the hilarious stories, and the ones that gave me advice I've both ignored and also followed! A huge thanks to every listener and every guest over this decade - I appreciate you all so much, because without guests and listeners, this would be a very boring podcast indeed. Here's to another decade!
