Cleveland City Council and Mayor Justin Bibb are tussling over the city budget, specifically over how much money is earmarked for neighborhoods. Council members wanted an allocation so they can control how $600,000 can be spent in each of their wards. In Akron, the budget season is marked by belt tightening. The $798 million budget proposed by Mayor Shammas Malik represents a two percent decrease over the last budget due to concerns of uncertainty around federal funding the expiration of federal COVID-related funding. Visits to food banks in Ohio are up 10% in each of the last three years, which is why anti-hunger advocates are concerned about a possible cut in state funding. Governor Mike DeWine's budget proposes a $15 million cut because money in the last budget was considered one-time funding. DeWine also wants some Medicaid recipients to get a job. He submitted his proposal to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Medicaid covers about 3 million people in Ohio. Two Republican lawmakers want Ohio's school kids to spend more time in the classroom, proposing a bill that would add 53 hours of instructional time to the school year. Two Republican congressmen in the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced a bill that would legalize marijuana federally in a manner similar to alcohol. The measure would remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substances Act, provide explicit banking protections for the cannabis industry, allow military veterans access to state-legal MJ programs and expand research. The new Congress, seated in January, must start from scratch in terms of passing marijuana legislation. The House took the first step in April by passing cannabis banking reform. More than 108 million Americans aged 21 and over, 43.2% of the country’s adult population, now have access to legal cannabis. While expansion of access to any new states is cause for optimism, these recent moves are notable due to the momentum they will add to further legalization efforts. BDSA expects that cannabis will be legalized federally by 2022, but as many states still have laws criminalizing cannabis, legalization will also need to take place on a state-by-state basis before the country can truly leave prohibition behind. The spread of adult-use legalization to more markets in the South and Southwest could provide momentum for legalization in states where cannabis reform now seems like a pipe dream. Class War Battlefield Podcast Episode 2021.00.01 EMERGENCY PODCAST EPISODE Addendum How Did We Get Here The Broken Society, and, the War Between the Republican Characters Gathering my thoughts around the events that occurred on January 6th 2021, I recorded this addendum on a topic I will speak more forcefully about over the next twelve months – the true “divide” defining this country. In this episode segment I have coined the phrase “Republican Characters” to describe the two competing ideological arguments set forward by Northern Secularists and Southern Theocrats during the years and decades immediately after the 1776 “Revolution”. These two arguments, when combined with the Federalist and Anti-Federalist movements occurring during the American Confederacy years; and in later years the Segregationist and Anti-Segregationist movements; thoroughly shaped the governmental strategies and political aims for each party. In the 1960s, as was the case in the early 1800s and the reconstruction decade of 1865-1875; one ideological camp checkmated the political strategies of the other camp. In the 1960s, the Anti-Segregationists checkmated the Segregationists and started a policy of political economic integration of the latter; this was essentially the continuance of the North’s attempt during the Reconstruction decade to economically integrate the South into its financial culture. History tells us, despite these seemingly watershed moments where one side has won over the other, proceeding events disprove this assumption. In this episode segment I suggest the reason why this assumption does not hold true is because the true fight was never about Segregationist or Non-Segregationist (Uncle Tom’s Cabins’ author Harriet Beecher Stowe does a marvelous job dispelling this myth) or to a far lesser extent, though move heavily weighing on the institutional structures we have come to rely on for this nation’s health, about Federalist or Anti-Federalist; but more about a Republican Agenda built from competing Republican Structures derived from A system of Republican Philosophy, Laws & Constitutional Organs which could be split up into two separate groups, both deriving themselves from Eurocentric Christian Governmental norms that preceded the country; the first was chiefly found in the South, it could be called a Theocratic Oligarchic Republican System, while the second was chiefly found in the North and could be called a Secular Christian Oligarchic Republican System. Buckle up, this ride will get bumpy. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me at vphiamer.adis.ogaarwa@outlook.com

Evers said one result of the hearing may be some people deciding not to vote in future elections. It’s been 17 days since Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg succumbed to cancer at the age of 87. Ginsburg was a heroic figure for millions of Americans: as the Notorious RBG, she was an icon of liberal grace, resilience and reason. A week after Ginsburg’s death, President Trump announced his pick for her replacement – conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett, whom Trump named to the 7th Circuit court three years ago. Judge Barrett will be questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee during four days of hearings set to begin next Monday, with a full Senate vote on her confirmation possible before the end of October, although that timetable could be upset by the Coronavirus. Two Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee, Mike Lee of Utah and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, have tested positive for the virus. Both attended the event at the White House in which Judge Barrett was introduced as Mr. Trump’s nominee. At least four other people who attended that event have also tested positive... While this is good news and considered to be Trump "passing a test" on whether he is going to do well in 2020, it was still ten points down from his lead in 2016.Democrats may be making gains, at least on the surface. But there may be another reason for the major drop in republican party support, Trump's base. Many voters came out in 2016 not to support the GOP but to support Trump himself. Democrats may noit actually have a strong lead at all, it may just be that Trump voters don't show up for anyone else. This means come 2020 Trump's base will check R across the board and sweep the house. While far left Democrats are causing a rift in the party moderates are feeling pushed away by the encroaching ideology and policies presented by 2020 Democrats. The historic 2018 Texas election is in the books and even though some of the dust has yet to settle -- the vote counting continues in a few races -- there is plenty to be said for what it all means. The race between Sen. Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke was so competitive that it drove Democrats to victories down the ballot in parts of Texas where they have not been competitive in the past. There is no doubt that a blue wave crashed into a red wall in Texas but not without doing some significant damage to the Republican Party's grip on power at the Capitol in Austin. Two Republican state senators lost their races while Democrats gained 12 seats in the Texas House. Despite the energy behind O'Rourke, the GOP held the line in every statewide race including wins for Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Comptroller Glenn Hegar, and others. Go behind the headlines for a look at what's really going on at the Texas Capitol and in Washington with the state's #1 political podcast: The Texas Take. Join the conversation featuring Scott Braddock, editor of The Quorum Report, Texas Public Radio Capitol reporter Ryan Poppe, and Chronicle political writer Jeremy Wallace. Support the show.

Michael Medved: A New Monument to Black Confederates

Two Republican legislators in South Carolina proposed a new monument on the state Capitol grounds to honor Confederate soldiers—this time commemorating black fighting men who went to battle for the South. This idea is both ill-considered and offensive. First, the estimated 6,000 African-Americans who did fight for the Confederacy were mostly slaves, and forced to do so—many deserted when the Confiscation Acts and Emancipation Proclamation offered freedom to those who crossed Union lines. Second, black soldiers represented less than 1 percent of the 750,000 white Confederates—and a tiny fraction of the 200,000 blacks who served the Union military. Finally, it makes no sense to construct new memorials to those who fought against the United States in an effort to destroy our country. Yes, there may be romance and sentiment associated with the South’s “Lost Cause” but conservatives who want support from people of color must unequivocally acknowledge that this Lost Cause deserved to lose.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
