As the owner of the Jazz Kitchen for nearly 30 years and as the Director of Indy Jazz Fest for over a decade, David has helped to curate literally thousands of jazz performances in Indianapolis by national and regional artists. The Jazz Kitchen has received multiple “Best 100 Jazz Clubs in the World” by Downbeat Magazine, and its sonics and ambience have inspired dozens of artists to record live albums in the venue. David, along with jazz artist/community leader Rob Dixon, re-energized the Indy Jazz Fest over a decade ago, and has continued to grow the Fest and the Indy Jazz Foundation, “to preserve the legacy and promote the future of jazz in Indianapolis.” David and I had a conversation in 2022 about his life, what inspired him to start the Jazz Kitchen, and his vision for preserving and growing Indianapolis' rich jazz history.

Starting February 4th, guests with the ability to park hop will be able to switch parks at 11am, instead of the current 1pm time. More dates have been added to the calendar at the $104 ticket level, bringing it up to nearly two months of days at the lowest ticket price. Throughout the Disney100 celebration, digital attraction photos will be complimentary starting February 4th. This is limited to digital attraction photos only. Also announced were more opportunities to join the Magic Key program throughout 2023 as pass inventory becomes available. For all the details, check out the link in our show notes. - https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/01/disneyland-resort-announces-new-updates-to-offer-guests-more-value-and-flexibility/ The closest location to get food in the esplanade abruptly closed this week. La Brea Bakery announced the closure of the Downtown Disney and all other non-airport locations to focus on their partnerships with distributing their baked goods. The location will make room for a temporary tenant before being demoed and becoming the location for the Porto's that was announced back at the D23 Expo in September. - https://www.ocregister.com/2023/01/09/la-brea-bakery-abruptly-closes-at-downtown-disney-after-two-decades/ Fans of great tasting, inexpensive food can now rejoice! Earl of Sandwich, the sandwich shop that was torn down with the rest of the AMC theater complex has announced its return. In the near term, it will be moving into the La Brea Bakery location, adding a sit-down option until a new location is built elsewhere in Downtown Disney, likely on the west side where construction is happening now. - https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/01/downtown-disney-district-welcomes-back-earl-of-sandwich-this-february-more-district-updates/ Weeklyteers who like dining in the once highly themed Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen will be sad with the changes coming when it re-opens. Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio will be the new name of the location. Guests who have experienced the new design have found it plain and mostly un-themed. The fully refurbished location should return after a "short time" according to Disney. Din Tai Fung, which was announced at the D23 Expo this year has some new concept art. In the concept art, there is a round bar surrounded by tables for diners to eat at. The new location will be on the west end of Downtown Disney, but no opening date or timeline has been announced. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/01/09/4-major-downtown-disney-restaurant-updates/#more-762543 When Magic Happens returns, there will be a dining package available to guests at the Plaza Inn. New Disney100 plates, cups, and popcorn boxes have arrived at the resort. The popcorn bucket is shades of purple and white, with the Disney100 logo, with 100 Years of Wonder underneath. The coffee cups are a similar design, with the standard soda cups sporting red along with the purple, sharing the color scheme with Coca-Cola. The paper plates feature the purple design around the edges of the plate, with Disney100, 100 Years of Wonder in the white center where the food goes. - https://dlnewstoday.com/2023/01/new-disney100-plates-cups-and-popcorn-boxes-debut-at-disneyland/ From now through January 18, Magic Key Holders can pick up a Disney100 print featuring Mickey and Minnie galavanting around Sleeping Beauty Castle. The castle features the decorations for the Disney100 celebration, the fountain, and the swans in the moat. The print by Asia Ellington is distributed in the extended queue for it's a small world every day at 1pm while supplies last back in Fantasyland. If you see a long line, don't be deterred, it moves quickly. - https://www.micechat.com/343892-disneyland-update-mangled-magic-a-soggy-start/ More details have been announced for World of Color - ONE coming to Disney California Adventure later this month. New Orleans restaurateur Ralph Brennan grew up in restaurants. Part of a storied New Orleans family, the restaurant group he helms today owns multiple spots -- including Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen located at the Disneyland Resort -- but to me, the crowning jewel of this group is Brennan's, a restaurant in the French quarter opened in 1946 that still celebrates the pageantry of eating out in its breathtaking and iconic spaces, from a pink and green dining room to elegant private rooms to a courtyard plucked out of a tropical dream. Mr. Ralph, as he is affectionately known in the restaurant, is past president and chairman of the National Restaurant Association and has presided locally over both the Louisiana and the New Orleans associations as well. He's a people person who excels at staying curious while still keeping New Orleans restaurant traditions alive. If you love brunch or bananas foster, you have Brennan's to thank for it, but the dining rooms have even more stories to tell.

Esteban Castro is a 20 year old pianist and composer who is on his way to becoming one of America's most accomplished jazz artists. He is a finalist for the American Pianists Awards (APA) competition, hosted here in Indianapolis, and I had the chance to interview him the day before his Premiere Series jazz trio concert at the Jazz Kitchen! Esteban attends the Juilliard School on a full-tuition scholarship, studying with Ted Rosenthal, and he also studies privately with Fred Hersch. At age thirteen, Esteban was the First Prize Winner in the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition in 2016, making him the youngest ever to receive this prestigious award. At fourteen, he was the youngest First Prize recipient at the 2017 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition. With over forty compositions to his name, Esteban has garnered three ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards and has won fifteen Downbeat Student Music Awards. He was selected as a pianist for the Grammy Band in 2017 and 2018, as a 2019 YoungArts Finalist, and as a member of the 2019 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. In addition, Esteban has won a variety of classical piano competitions(!). Esteban has played to sold-out audiences in venues such as The Blue Note, The Montreux Jazz Club, The New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Dizzy's Club, and at a number of international venues. I was honored to get the chance to speak with Esteban, to hear about his life in music, his approach to improvisation and composition, and what winning the APA jazz competition would mean to him. I was inspired by the conversation, and I hope you enjoy it.

The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage has set sail again, taking guests on the voyage under the seas to find Nemo. The attraction has been closed for over two and a half years – since before the COVID shutdown and was planned to come back in the winter of 2021, but was extended until this week. Other than the refreshed look and Hank on the surface, not much has been updated. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/07/21/how-disneyland-refurbished-everything-on-finding-nemo-submarine-voyage/ Guests have two more spots in DCA to take a look at wait times — a definite win for people avoiding using the mobile app. The display screens near Spider-man and Radiator Springs Racers are new wait-time monitors for the park's busy attractions, just like the one by Carthay Circle. – https://www.micechat.com/327870-disneyland-update-submarines-dive-as-passholders-wait-to-resubscribe/ The Main Street Electrical Parade may be set to glow away…again…on September 1, but not before one more celebration. News: Avengers Campus finally opened to the public on Friday. The new area features Pym Test Kitchen, a unique take on different sized meals, Pym Testing Lab, a great place to get a cool beverage, Shwarma Palace, featuring the Avenger's favorite wraps, Terran Treats, with some sweet concoctions, two stores, WEB Suplliers, and Campus Supply Pod, a lot of area meet and greets, and two attractions, the existing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, and the new WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Attraction. We will talk more in-depth about this experiences as we go through the news. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/06/now-open-first-recruits-assemble-at-avengers-campus-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/06/cast-and-community-members-among-first-recruits-in-avengers-campus-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ Of course the hot ticket on Campus is the new WEB Slingers attraction. This is virtual queue only at the moment, with slots available at 7am and noon each day. There is no standby. Guests that were able to snag a place in the queue can bypass the line to enter Avengers Campus and head in to board the attraction. Reviews are mixed and described the ride as a different version of Toy Story: Midway Mania. Riders use their hands to “shoot webs” at the different objects in the attraction to get a score and help Spider-Man save the Campus from the Spider-Bots, which have gone out of control. – https://www.micechat.com/292046-how-to-score-a-boarding-group-for-web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure/ Pym's Test Kitchen has been pretty well reviewed. Mobile ordering is the primary way to get food at this, and all the other dining locations in Avengers Campus, and has been less than ideal. On opening day, guests could order food when not in the land and could sometimes be allowed in to get their food, while other times being denied access. Over the weekend, they changed the notification so guests had to order in the land only, in addition to adding the order windows throughout the day, instead of only in the morning. The food itself is getting good reviews. The Pym-ini sandwich is reported to taste like a meat-lovers pizza in a sandwich. The Not So Little Chicken Sandwich also got good reviews. For a complete review, check out our link in the show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/04/full-review-lunch-at-pym-test-kitchen-in-disneys-avengers-campus/ Over at Terran Treats, the two new items are on the menu. The Sweet Spiral Ration, which is a pineapple churro, wrapped into a swirl, and the Cosmic Cream Orb, which is a chocolate cream puff, filled with whipped raspberry cheesecake. The Ration tastes like a Dole Whip mixed with a Churro. The Orb tastes mostly of cheesecake, with a hint of raspberry. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/04/full-review-terran-treats-at-disneys-avengers-campus/ The Shawarma Palace features breakfast and daytime menus. For breakfast, there is the Impossible Breakfast Sha-warm-up, which features plant based breakfast sausage and egg omelet wrap, with a dairy free American cheese and crispy potato bites, served with maple syrup. The daytime options include the New York's Tastiest, which is a chicken shawarma wrap, with garlic spread, and a coconut yogurt-tahini sauce and pickled vegetables, and then there is the Impossible Victory Falafel, which is a plant based falafel and cauliflower wrap, garlic spread, hummus, and coconut yogurt-tahini sauce, with pickled vegetables. The Disney Food Blog said the Falafel was a little bland, but the Chicken Wrap was great. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/04/full-review-shawarma-palace-in-disneys-avengers-campus/ Pym Test Kitchen also serves breakfast from opening until 10:45am. Options include Calculated Breakfast, the Ever-expanding Cinna-Pym Toast, the Impossible Quantum Garden Breakfast, and the Spoonful of Cereal. Sides include smoked bacon, turkey bacon, potato bites, or a Cuties mandarin. The Cinna-Pym toast was reviewed well, but the other items were hit and miss. Check out the link in our show notes for the complete review. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/04/breakfast-review-pym-test-kitchen-at-disneys-avengers-campus/ More dining locations will be open for guests to enjoy! Disney announced that on June 17th, Oga's Cantina, Docking Bay 7, Rancho del Zocalo, The Tiki Juice Bar, and Alien Pizza Planet would be serving guests. Reservations will be available starting on June 14th for Oga's, Lamplight Lounge and Wine Country Trattoria. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/06/disneys-parks-foodie-news-announcing-new-openings-and-offerings-sebastians-bistro-ohana-wine-country-trattoria-lamplight-lounge-brunch-and-more/ Unlike Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, which was criticized for not having enough atmosphere when it came to sound or interactions in the land, Avengers Campus excels in this regard. Members of the Avengers are out performing around the campus in stunt shows, a practice session, some acrobatic maneuvers, and in a short Dr. Strange show in the Ancient Sanctum. Music from the series is also played throughout the area. – https://www.micechat.com/292046-how-to-score-a-boarding-group-for-web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure/ For those of you who can't make it to the parks to visit Avengers Campus just yet, Walt Disney Imagineers have a solution! In their latest Disney Paper Parks release you can build all of Avengers Campus! The set also includes 13 Marvel characters to decorate the creation. The trains are now running from opening to close at Disneyland, and are boarding at all the stations. For the first few weeks that Disneyland was open, staffing shortages resulted in the train only running until 2:30 in the afternoon, and loading at ToonTown station only. – https://www.micechat.com/293761-disneyland-update-happy-holidays-ahead/ In other attractions news, Cast Members for the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes have been spotted training. This means that this attraction will return to operation soon. No date has been announced by Disney. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-cast-members-training-for-reopening-of-davy-crocketts-explorer-canoes-at-disneyland/ As we mentioned previously, there has been a snack shortage at Disneyland in the last couple of weeks, resulting in churros, Mickey pretzels, and chimichangas being unavailable on some days. The good news is that the parks have started receiving orders again, and items are back in stock around the resort. The bread bowls that are famous at the resort have not returned yet, but are expected to as staffing ramps up and more locations reopen for guests. – https://www.micechat.com/293761-disneyland-update-happy-holidays-ahead/ MiceChat had a follow up on the Red Car Trolley charging location at the front of Disney California Adventure. With Avengers Campus at the end of the line, along with the barn for the trolleys, the current route has been modified. The trolley now only runs from the entrance to the park on Buena Vista Street to Hollywood Land and back, resulting in the need for the charging pad at the entrance station. – https://www.micechat.com/293761-disneyland-update-happy-holidays-ahead/ Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen has come up with another new beignet creation. This time, they are covered in Fruity Pebbles, with a blueberry lemon icing. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/03/fruity-pebble-beignets-at-disneyland-sign-us-up/ For those Weeeklyteers that liked The Imagineering Story on Disney+, a new series is coming in July that might interest you. Behind the Attraction will premiere on July 16th (the day that we arrive in Anaheim for our trip), and will have 10 parts. Each episode will cover the behind the scenes of creating an iconic Disney attraction. Topics include the Castles at the parks, the Jungle Cruise, “it's a small world”, the Haunted Mansion, and more. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/06/go-behind-the-attraction-in-a-new-original-series-coming-to-disney-on-july-16/ Discussion Topic: Devin from Disney Media Finance

News: With June 15th quickly approaching, there are a lot of changes to be aware of with California Theme Parks with the expiration of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. On June 15th, out of state guests will be allowed at theme parks, vaccine verification will be required, park capacity will not be restricted by the state, this includes shops and restaurants, physical distancing will not be required, indoor shows and queuing can return, masks will still be required indoors and outdoors for theme parks. We will have to wait and see what Disneyland will require. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ Along with all of the other measures that are sure to be changing come June 15th, this next one we know for certain is happening. Disneyland will be discontinuing the temperature checks that are currently in place just before security. – https://t.co/JdJOyPVUyD If you are like we are, and love experiencing the parks at night, then this next announcement will be very good news. Starting July 1st, Disneyland will be open 8am to 10pm, with Main Street remaining open until 11pm, Disney California Adventure will be open 8am to 9pm, and Downtown Disney will generally be open 9am to 11pm. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ Two attractions will also be returning for the first time since the parks reopened. Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters will return on June 26th, and the Matterhorn returns on July 2nd. With the increased capacity, Disneyland can really use all the attractions up and running. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ The last of the Disneyland Resort hotels has an opening date! July 2nd the Disneyland Hotel returns to housing guests that are visiting the resort. Upholstery and fabrics were updated during the closure in the guest rooms, lobbies, and meeting rooms. Beds have been upgraded to allow for more space under the bed for storage, the carpets feature a fireworks design, and the corridor flooring features patterns inspired by Mary Blair art. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/disneyland-hotel-reopens-july-2-book-your-stay-today/ For those just too excited to wait for Avengers Campus to open, you can virtually see inside the new area through the magic of Google Earth! The 3D map of the area was updated before the parks reopened last month and gives us a pretty good view of the inside of the land. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ For a more official look inside Avengers Campus, look no further than the Disneyland App. The map for DCA has been updated to include the new land. There are three entrances to the campus, one from Hollywood Land, one from Cars Land, and the “main” entrance along the parade route. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/first-look-guide-map-for-avengers-campus-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ As with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening at the parks, the new Web Slingers attraction will also be part of the virtual queue system. Guests will need to use the Disneyland App to virtually queue for the attraction, as there will not be a standby line. The virtual queue will be available at 7am and 12pm, just like Rise of the Resistance. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/05/web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure-will-use-virtual-queue-system-similar-to-star-wars-rise-of-the-resistance/ The outdoor waiting area for the Hyperion Theater has been setup for use as seating for Avengers Campus dining. Signage from Pym’s Test Kitchen, as well as some larger than life props really theme this area well. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ Some possibly controversial merchandise is coming to Avengers Campus when it opens on June 4th. Web tech accessories can be purchased in the WEB Suppliers store and then used on the WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure to get special abilities and help get a higher score on the attraction. Some online communities have suggested this makes the attraction a more pay to win experience than a skill based one, like Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story Midway Mania. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/first-look-embrace-your-inner-super-hero-with-avengers-campus-merchandise-including-all-new-web-tech-available-at-disneyland-resort/ Disneyland has begun rolling out composable waste receptacles around the parks. In the areas where this has been rolled out, there are three cans; one for regular trash, one for recyclables like plastic, cans, paper, and glass, and the final can for food waste that can be used to make compost. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/05/photos-compostable-waste-receptacles-now-in-use-at-disneyland/ Graduates in 2022 will have the option to spend it at Disneyland for the first time since 2019! Disney has announced that Grad Nites will be returning next year for the graduating class. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ To help speed up the long lines at Marceline’s Confectionery in Downtown Disney, a new portable menu is available to guests waiting in line to pick what they are going to buy once they get inside. If any item is sold out, it will be covered by a Mickey head. – https://www.micechat.com/291605-disneyland-update-very-nearly-normal-for-better-or-worse/ Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen is bringing another awesome beignet creation to dine-in guests, this time in a drink form! The Beignet Flavored cocktail is alcoholic and served with a mini beignet on top, and is available to guests 21 years and older. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/05/22/we-bet-youve-never-had-a-disney-beignet-like-this-before/ Discussion Topic: The Enchanted Tiki Room Disney Fandom – https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Walt_Disney%27s_Enchanted_Tiki_Room AllEars.net – https://allears.net/2019/07/29/why-arent-they-breathing-the-true-story-behind-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room/

Ken Potrock, President of the Disneyland Resort, Kurt Stocks, President of Legoland California, Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Studios Hollywood, and Raffi Kaprelyan, Regional Vice President for Cedar Fair, which operates Knott’s Berry Farm were on the stream. Good points were made by each of them, such as local residents might be traveling out of state to go to theme parks since the local ones aren’t open, helping with the COVID-19 spread. Overall, the group of theme park leaders were not happy. – https://www.facebook.com/CaAttractionsandParks/ The Orange County Register reported this week that the Southern California theme parks are considering legal action to gain permission to reopen, or, at the very least, change the guidelines for reopening. The parks at least want to be able to open in tier 3 instead of waiting for tier 4. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/21/disneyland-universal-studios-knotts-and-more-considering-legal-action-over-californias-unachievable-reopening-guidelines/ Disneyland sent an email out to annual passholders discussing the reopening guidelines that were announced last week. MiceChat got some aerial photos this past week that show that progress is happening in the parks. The World of Color lagoon is bubbling away to keep the fountains for the show in running order, some of the fixed gondolas on the Pixar Pal-a-Round are missing and are probably getting the fins to aid in steadying the cabins as guests load and unload. There is a small bit of construction going on in Cars Land with roadwork. But, the exciting news comes from Avenger’s Campus! The Quinjet that has been parked under tarps backstage has been lifted to its place on teh Avenger’s building! – https://www.micechat.com/267362-disneyland-update-new-magic-aerial-discoveries-and-layoffs/ A new Disney Cast Life episode is live and features Zach Riddley, Walt Disney World Site Portfolio Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering. A new sound system has been installed along the route playing the music loop from the espalnade between the parks. The sound can be heard walking down the sidewalk, in your car with the windows down while driving by, and, when the trams are running again, on board the trams! – https://wdwnt.com/2020/08/photo-report-disneyland-resort-7-15-20-scaffolding-removed-from-the-emporium-on-main-street-usa-new-sound-system-along-tram-route-altered-world-of-disney-queue-and-more/ Disney Legend Rolly Crump takes guests back to the creation of the Haunted Mansion and a little bit of working with Walt Disney himself! At the Jazz Kitchen Express, guests can walk up and order at the counter and then wait for the food to be prepared. Social distancing markers are present, just like everywhere else. Guests wanting to dine in at the main Jazz Kitchen could get on the waitlist by talking to the host, or scanning the QR code to be added to the list with a smartphone. The tables are distanced well, with seating upstairs on the balconies, as well as in the courtyard on the main level. No inside dining is offered. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/08/13/review-we-were-reunited-with-our-beloved-beignets-at-ralph-brennans-jazz-kitchen-express-in-disneyland/ and https://www.micechat.com/267362-disneyland-update-new-magic-aerial-discoveries-and-layoffs/ The Disneyland and Walt Disney World costuming teams have worked together to create a new face mask exclusively for cast members designed to be more functional and comfortable. The new masks fit fetter, are more breathable, and can be washed more than 50 times. There are two styles, pleated and contoured, and multiple sizes to fit all face shapes and sizes. The masks sparkle with pixie dust and Mickey constellations. The masks are not for sale to guests. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/08/for-cast-by-cast-new-face-coverings-roll-out-across-domestic-disney-parks/ There are some great deals on 2020 merchandise at World of Disney. All 2020 dated items are buy one, get one free. This offer includes apparel and accessories as well. On the table is two weeks of paid leave if a cast member tests posititve for the virus, and notification if a cast member tests positive, along with testing of other cast members that were around the positive cast member. – https://www.micechat.com/267362-disneyland-update-new-magic-aerial-discoveries-and-layoffs/ As COVID-19 carries on throughout the summer, the Disneyland Resort is thinking about steps to bring cast members back once they are cleared to open again by the State of California. Currently, Disneyland is looking at different COVID-19 testing options for the 31,000 cast members at the resort. Out in Florida, cast members can get tested by appointment only at a drive-thru center, with test results available in 3-5 business days. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/08/12/disneyland-evaluating-covid-19-testing-options-for-cast-members/ There seems to be no end to new merchandise showing up at Downtown Disney. One of the coolest new items are the Up Minnie Ears for $29.99. The ears feature multi-colored pom-poms in clear, plastic ears to symbolize balloons, a grape soda lid to tie the bow, and a bug, fluffy bow which looks like clouds and the blue sky. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/08/13/whats-new-at-downtown-disney-up-minnie-ears-a-restaurant-reopens-and-new-mask-designs/ With Halloween coming up in a couple of months, new Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise has come to the parks. The first of these is a Minnie ears set that has a giant bat in the place of the Minnie bow and is mostly black, with white lines like Jack’s outfit in the movie. The backside of the ears has Oogie Boogie and Lock, Shock, and Barrel. There are bones on the headband and the ears are made out of a leather looking material. For the dress wearing listeners, a new Oogie Boogie dress has appeared in the Dress Shop in Downtown Disney. The dress is $128. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/08/photos-new-the-nightmare-before-christmas-minnie-ears-slink-into-the-disneyland-resort/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/08/photos-new-oogie-boogie-dress-by-the-dress-shop-rolls-into-the-disneyland-resort/ Discussion Topic: Little Known Disneyland Facts: MousePlanet – https://www.mouseplanet.com/11635/Twelve_Stories_of_Disneyland_Part_One and https://www.mouseplanet.com/11642/Twelve_Stories_of_Disneyland_Part_Two

The lead float that will feature Mickey Mouse was front and center with these posts. Numbers were also released that show the parade will contain 9 floats, 2 new songs, and over 90 performers. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-video-sorcerer-mickey-float-performer-costumes-and-more-revealed-for-magic-happens-parade-at-disneyland/Even though we are still a couple of years away from Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway from opening in Toon Town here at Disneyland, Cast Member previews will be starting next week for the attraction opening next month at Hollywood Studios out in Walt Disney World. Cast Members will be able to experience the new attraction from February 22nd through March 2nd. March 3rd is the media event, with it opening to the public on March 4th. This will be the first time we have seen any substantial part of this attraction, and its potentially groundbreaking technology. – https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/mickey-and-minnies-runaway-railway/news/14feb2020-cast-previews-to-begin-soon-at-mickey-and-minnies-runaway-railway.htmFastPass was added this week to the Autopia and Monsters, Inc. With the addition of the service to these attractions, the standby lines have skyrocketed. The typical wait time for Monsters, Inc was under 20 minutes, but since FastPass, has been around 60 minutes, much of that time in an uncovered queue outside. The Autopia was just as bad with the entire elevated queue filling up for standby. – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/Do or do not, there is no try. For guests wanting to get a boarding pass, the weekdays are turning out to be the best days to “do” that. This past Wednesday and Thursday, boarding groups were available for about an hour after park opening. The operation of the attraction, as well as the amount of boarding groups that make it into the attraction has varied by day. Some days mid-hundred groups were called, while others barely got through the 80s. – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/A remnant from the past has taken up residence outside of the Haunted Mansion. A sign that was designed by Disney Legend Marty Sklar has reappeared, lit by a ghostly blue light in the evening. The sign becons guests to retire to the Haunted Mansion and “scare the daylights” out of guests. Reservations are available by sending a resume of past experience to the “Ghost Relations Department at Disneyland.” – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/It is Mardi Gras season, and Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen is holding a contest to become “Royalty for the Day”. By liking the Jazz Kitchen on Facebook and entering, you could become King and Queen of Mardi Gras. The King and Queen will be honorary judges of the Mardi Gras costume contest on February 25th. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/15/you-can-be-royalty-for-a-day-at-this-disneyland-restaurant/At the Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland, a new sweet treat has appeared. The Galactic Parfait has layers of blue cheesecake on top of chocolate cake, with purple mousse at the bottom with raspberry marmalade. The top is covered in a Glitter Glaze with edible stars and a hollow milk chocolate decoration. The treat itself is pretty sweet and is available for $5.99. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/12/review-the-galactic-parfait-sparkles-and-shines-literally-at-disneylands-galactic-grill/Some more merchandise from the Ink and Paint collection has been spotted at the resort. Collectible pins featuring different Disney characters in different stages of painting are available for $12.99 each. A four pack of pins is also available for $27.99. A Lady and the Tramp tee, some ladies leggings, and more is also for sale. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-pins-leggings-and-a-t-shirt-join-the-ink-paint-collection-lineup-at-the-downtown-disney-district/A new book featuring the Monorail is coming to stores this September. “The Disney Monorail: Imagineering a Highway in the Sky” will be on shelves September 1st and covers the creation and impact the Disney monorails have had on transportation systems around the world. The book includes historical photos and concept art that has never been published before. The book can be pre-ordered for $32.99 at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/new-book-the-disney-monorail-imagineering-a-highway-in-the-sky-set-to-release-september-1st/The second month of the Minnie ears collection went on sale this week and it was another mess for guests trying to get their hands on any of the items. A video surfaced online of a guest carrying an arms full of the merchandise from the rack to the checkout, highlighting the need for Disney to put limits on this collection. Quite a bit of this collection is ending up on sites like eBay for double or more of the list price. – https://vm.tiktok.com/qGYqqK/A unique item has come to the resort. New, small, handheld night lights are now available. There are a number of options to choose from including Sleeping Beauty Castle, a Mickey head, a Mickey ice cream cone, and a monorail! The lights are $16.99 each and change color after being on for some time. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/13/a-mickey-ice-cream-night-light-in-disneyland-sign-us-up/ and https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-disney-parks-night-lights-glow-up-at-the-downtown-disney-district/Sweethearts night was last week on February 12th and 13th. There was a handful of specialty merch for the evening including a limited edition pin, couples mugs, and long sleeve hoodies. One of the highlights of the night was the Royal Ball near its a small world. It was a 30 minute long performance and was performed every hour. It was a great chance to dance with a lot of characters. The other character meet and greets had very long lines. Guests that were D23 members could receive a reproduction of the 30th anniversary invitation that Walt and Lillian sent out at the Golden Horseshoe. – https://www.micechat.com/250795-feel-the-love-at-disneyland-after-dark-sweethearts-nite/Over in California Adventure, the sky is getting a little bluer. The sky mural that is on the facade of the Hyperion Theatre is in the process of being repainted. As with all things that are hammered by the southern California sun all day, it was in need of a touch up due to fading. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-scaffolds-up-as-sky-backdrop-undergoes-repainting-at-hollywood-land-at-disney-california-adventure/Discussion Topic:A night in Cinderella’s Castle

We've got a special one for you today! Kyle Long, host of Cultural Manifesto on WFYI sat down with us this week for an episode full of Indianapolis music history, culture, and so much more. We discussed Kyle's favorite former and current venues around town, the upcoming renovation of the Madame Walker Theatre Center, and his involvement in creating a music series that brings musicians from the famed Indiana Avenue to Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis. And check out his upcoming event, the Brazilian Carnaval hosted by Cultural Cannibals at The Jazz Kitchen on Saturday, February 22. We asked Kyle to list 3 of his favorite songs which we have linked below with his descriptions of each. Enjoy! 1. R.D. Burman and Asha Bhosle “Dum Maro Dum” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMbyHqrokYQ This song changed my life. I found it on a cassette I purchased at an Indian grocery store near Lafayette Square Mall in the late '90s. The song was composed by the Bollywood music genius R.D. Burman for the 1971 film 'Haré Rama Haré Krishna.' The film was a conservative critique on the supposedly negative influence of Western hippies on Indian culture, but ironically the song “Dum Maro Dum” became an anthem for Indian hippies. The lyrics refer to smoking weed and the chorus roughly translates to: "Take another hit and all your troubles will be gone." The song is voiced by the incredible Asha Bhosle, of the legendary Mangeshkar family. 2. Amnesty “We Have Love” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIcu8ElZZqk I had to pick at least one Indianapolis song, and Amnesty is one of my all-time favorite Indianapolis bands. Their music has been sampled in hit songs from Kanye West to Jay-Z, yet they remain relatively unknown here in Indianapolis. This track was recorded in 1973 at the home of Moe Whittemore, a New Palestine, Indiana based music producer/engineer. 3. [tie] Richard Groove Holmes “Onsaya Joy” / Trudy Pitts “Steppin' In Minor” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jZZ1-xEjTA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Dt2bPy5DY Valerie, you mentioned your love of jazz Hammond organ - I too share a similar affection for the instrument, and these are my two favorite examples. Both are epic psychedelic Hammond journeys!

It's time for season two of the Momnesia Podcast! Sarah and Julie spend time catching up on life by doing a deep dive on four important topics - health, family, careers, and our current faves (what we are listening to, watching and reading). Grab you favorite drink and settle in with us as we fill you in on all the details!   Julie starts us off by sharing about some major health issues she encountered at the beginning of the year. A uterine fibroid was making life unbearable - ridiculous bleeding, shortness of breath, changing clothes every every few hours, emotional rollercoasters, lower back pain, and sleepless nights. The solution was a DaVinci hysterectomy, which brought about the relief she was hoping for, but left Julie out of commission for three weeks. Family, friends, and our online community surrounded her with love and support, for which she is eternally grateful! Sarah gives us an early glimpse into her work on a new health and wellness plan with certified health coach. She's focusing on what she calls, "the holy work of inner peace" - learning how to identify and capture the negative messages and emotions that bounce around in her subconscious mind, and retraining her thoughts to be more loving to her body.  The Shorts are going through a big transition as Colin ends his job at Anderson High School and pursues a dream of becoming self-employed with Colin Short Creative. He's writing a book and offering copywriting services to companies big and small.  School is back in session for the McLaughlin kiddos. Sarah lives out her dream of playing the cello through Soren; Joseph is killing it in math drills and earning the dollar bills (yo) in fourth grade; Anna was successful at roping mom into becoming a Girl Scout Leader, so get ready for cookie season (Do you love Troop Beverly Hills as much as we do?); and the twins could not be more excited to start preschool! Julie is over the top excited to be attending an Enneagram Intensive in Colorado this fall as a part of her professional development plan at work. The training is provided by the Narrative Enneagram Program and is the first step in becoming a certified Enneagram coach, so get ready for more Enneagram discussion on the pod! She's also taking an online course with our new best friend (and future podcast guest) Jen Petro.  Sarah just released a new album - Reverie (available on Spotify and Apple Music) and is already preparing for the holiday season. She will have six shows at The Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis (December 6-8), featuring friend and winner of The Voice, Josh Kaufman. Sarah will also be performing with the Carmel Symphony at the Carmel Palladeum in December. Make sure to check out her website for details. www.sarahtunes.com So what's our current jam? Julie can't get enough of the Second Life Podcast with Hillary Kerr and Sarah can't stop listening to the Highwomen album.  Make sure to check back for details on our first Momnesia Meet Up! How To Sell When You're A Start Up

Today's podcast addresses a question from a listener who wanted to know how to begin the sales process when they had very little in terms of case studies, or customer experience. In his case, it was a start-up company in the IT space. Bill and Bryan dished out some tips to use in beginning to position him in the market. The fact is that, in some ways, this is an excellent position to be in. The ability to create a position from scratch can be quite powerful. However, if you already have a customer base and are a seasoned pro, there are still some ideas in this podcast that will help you re-think your position. The fact is that even if we've been around for a while, there is always something new we're wanting to do - new products - innovative services - new ways to think about old problems. Consequently, "thinking like a beginner" is something we should do frequently. **If you'd like your question to be featured in the next mailbag episode, then email your question to Bill and Bryan at Listener@AdvancedSellingPodcast.comAlso mentioned to the podcast: If you're in the Indianapolis area, then join us on October 12, 2012 for a LIVE podcast recording the Jazz Kitchen in Broadripple. Reflections on a Century of Episodes  Show #100.  Somehow I'd always known we'd get here, even though have long since faded -- some of them with many fewer shows than this.  Sure, I allowed for the possibility that there may only be five people listening by the time I got here, but I was bound and determined to ensure that putting that leading 0 in front of the other 099 episodes was justified.  On the whole, I'm pretty pleased with what we've accomplished.  I wouldn't say we've ever "phoned in" an episode, but I will admit that at times, individual episodes weren't really up to snuff, falling short of how good I really thought they could be for various reasons, but many more that I didn't think would be all that great surprised me and became some of my favorite moments.  If there's one thing I've learned in all this time, it's that you just can't predict these things or have any preconceived notions going in.  When I look back at the archive page at all of the shows, the early ones still stick out for me as the most memorable, even though I have trouble (like most musicians) listening to my "early work."  I remember Nuvo objecting to our recording a show at "their event," then finally relenting (thanks to some pressure applied the band that invited us) but still insisting that we had to conduct the interview out of sight of the patrons, which meant crowding in a corner of the venue's kitchen and talking over clanking dishes and buzzing lights.  I remember finishing the second half of one show by cramming six people into a van with mic cables knotted up and strewn from the front seat to the back seat because the venue had gotten too loud and rowdy to record.  I remember discovering Jagermeister for the first time in the middle of a show and wondering how the hell I was going to get through the second half of the interview when I couldn't feel my face and I was talking like Mush Mouth from Fat Albert. I remember (to the annoyance of staff and patrons) in the back corner of the Jazz Kitchen.  I remember a lot of love and laughs at various , either frozen, wet, or baking in the sun.  But, mostly I remember meeting a lot of cool people and making a lot of really good friends doing this show.  Four of the best ones joined me for a few beers last January to reminisce and talk about whatever came to mind.  The result is this otherwise low-key anniversary episode. Is the show a success?  I'm not sure how to judge that.  Certainly respect and name recognition have improved among local acts and venue owners since those early days.  Ratings pretty much flattened out years ago, but they've been relatively consistent all this time -- so while we're not turning people off in large numbers, if there's a next level to this stuff, it continues to elude us.  All of these things have never been more than secondary concerns, however.  What really gets me charged up is seeing that one or two times a month when somebody, presumably new to the show, goes back and downloads every episode in one sitting.  Though I both pity and envy them for the ordeal they are about to put themselves through, the fact is, the permanency of what we've done here really means more to me than how many people are checking out the most current episode.  I have always intended Indy In-Tune to serve as a time capsule of a particular era in the Indianapolis music scene.  In our run, we've caught a few bands early on in their rise to relative stardom.  We've captured t of a lot of former line-ups and even now-defunct bands and permanently preserved a little of their history.  Most of all, I hope we've turned a lot of people on to music and performers that they otherwise might not have heard, and brought all of guests at least a couple of new fans for their effort.  In 100 episodes, I think we've proven that fame and "mainstream success" is by no means a measure of "talent."  There is music being made in garages, played in small neighborhood taverns, and featured on this show that I would put up against the stuff on corporate radio and the billboard charts any day.  As long as we can occasionally convince people of this, or at least get them to think a little before writing the assertion off, then this has all been worth it.  Our sincerest thank you to the fans, the musicians, and those who have helped and supported us behind the mic over the years.  Not sure where we go from here, but we're glad to have had you with us on the long strange trip so far. Links referenced in the show:  Jenn Cristy ( | | | | and previously appearing as a guest on , , and and a co-host on several others) has been a fixture and one of our most popular guests on the show since our first year, which is only fitting since she is one of the more popular acts in the area.  After taking most of 2008 off, she was the one who dragged me back into putting out shows on a regular basis again and has always been an enthusiastic supporter of all of our projects, be it Musician's Night Out, the Podcast Battle of the Bands, or an "Indy In-Tune Presents" night at a local venue.  We wouldn't be where we are without her.  Oh yeah, and she sings, writes music, and plays piano real purdy too.  Jeff DeHerdt ( | | | and previously appearing on and ) is one of those guys you just don't hear enough about in this town.  He is a brilliant and diverse pianist, songwriter, singer, and arranger, whose gift works equally well when playing in a duo, trio, quartet, big band, or just doing a solo gig with a piano and a mic (and , though I haven't seen him whip that out recently).  Electric or acoustic, jazz or pop, experimental or standards, originals or covers, there are a few hundred different permutations to experience Jeff's music, and over the years, I think I've probably seen all of them -- except maybe synthetic country/western. Pres Maxson ( | | | and previously appearing on and as a guest, and as a co-host, and as a guest host.) is one of those guys you have to keep your eye on.  He is as funny as he is musically talented, and he always seems to be keeping something in reserve for you -- as I can attest that what you hear on this podcast and on his albums pales in comparison to what I've seen him do off-mic and jamming around in my living room with piano and guitar.  His music is deceptively light in tone and deep in content, but he's just as capable of playing something amazingly virtuosic and complex while attaching some whimsical vocal to it when you're not paying attention.  Trust me, as great as his body of work has been to this point, he's no doubt got something even better brewing for us.  He's just biding his time, so keep your eye on him.  Tim Spainhower ( | | | | and appearing on and as a guest and as a special back-up musician on ) is, as always, a songwriting machine.  Really.  I have twenty one of his albums, most of which only a few people have heard.  I would venture to say that he's forgotten more songs than most "famous" musicians will write in their entire career.  When you add in his unfinished demos and alternate versions, it means when I put my music collection (currently about 40,000 songs) on scramble, every fifth song is a Tim Spainhower song, and often one I don't remember ever hearing before.  We keep threatening one day to go through his entire back catalog and pick out an album of forgotten gems for him to re-record as a "revisited" album.  Maybe we'll get to that, if we can get him to stop coming up with new stuff for a while.  In case you hadn't heard, .  He is not, in fact, dating Jenn Cristy, however.    Our opening number is "Two Gin Shots" by Pres Maxson off of his Volume Two album, which is available as a free download on his Reverb Nation page.  Our second musical break is Jenn Cristy doing an accapella version of Edge of the the River, originally off of .  This version is only available via her web site.  Our third musical break is Club Bordeaux by Jeff DeHerdt from .  Jeff references Bobby Owsinski's book "" when discussing his future marketing and distribution plans.  More about Billy Joel admitting he "borrowed" from Bob Dylan . My rendition of Darling Nikki is available on .   Please let Tim's experience with Elton John songs should be a lesson to people everywhere who will do anything for a ridiculously cute girl. The ongoing in-joke between us comes from an outtake from Show #093 when Pres Maxson explained at length that his favorite Tim Spainhower song was "The Boys from Oklahoma Roll Their Joins All Wrong."  Fact is, that was that he was covering. Learn more about Geoff Emerick and his experience with the Beatles . Our fourth track is Luxury off of Tim Spainhower's "Vicious" album currently available as a limited release direct from the artist.  , which was also a bit on an in-joke, was Pres' band prior to returning on Indiana.  He does, however have on speed dial. You can see the picture of Jenn sticking her tongue in Jeff's ear .
