Celebrate Soulfully invites guests to gather for experiences that honor Black heritage and culture. At Disneyland, Celebrate Gospel will move from Stage 17 at Disney California Adventure to the Fantasyland Theater on February 19th with award-winning Gospel singer, actor, and fashion designer Kierra Sheard, along with a capella Gospel group Sacred Groove. Grammy-award winners Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music perform on February 26th, along with The Singers of Soul. Both weekends will feature Southern California community choirs from 3-7pm. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/01/celebrate-soulfully-at-disney-parks-this-february-in-honor-of-black-culture-and-heritage/ A lot of smaller updates and refreshes are happening around the resort. On Main Street, the Crystal Arcade is covered in scaffolding and getting a new paint job. Over at the Rivers of America, the water jet and pyrotechnic pits are drained again and are being worked on in preperation for a return of Fantasmic! The Haunted Mansion has returned from being taken over for the holiday season. Splash Mountain has closed for it's annual refurbishment, not anything related to the upcoming Princess and the Frog re-theme. it's a small world also closed to remove the holiday overlay that almost didn't happen this last year because of flooding. Steelwork continues to go up for the upcoming Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, including hills taking shape on the top of the show building to bring back the cartoony hillside. The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is getting final touches before the lagoon is refilled and the attraction can reopen. – https://www.micechat.com/313478-disneyland-news-character-cost-construction-update/ Over in Disney California Adventure, some of the facades in Hollywood Land are getting a facelift, while in Paradise Bay the World of Color infrastructure continues to be worked on. The platforms have been raised and lowered a lot recently, while scaffholding is still in place while the projection towers are still being rebuilt. Over at the Disneyland Hotel, the new Disney Vacation Club tower is coming along with foundation being poured. – https://www.micechat.com/313478-disneyland-news-character-cost-construction-update/ Last week auditions were posted for an upcoming show at Disneyland. The Tale of the Lion King was hosting auditions for the show that will be at the Fantasyland Theater this summer. Rehearsals begin in April, with performances starting in early summer. This helps us get an idea of when to expect the show to return to the resort. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/13107/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_January_31__February_6_2022 Weeklyteers who are in love with coffee, especially cold brews that the parks have been offering lately should head over to the Hungry Bear Restaurant soon! A new Snickerdoodle Cold Brew is available for $5.99. This version is topped with whipped cream and cookie dust, making it a bit more sweet than most cinnamon cold brews. This has been compared to the cinnamon-y coffee drinks at places like Starbucks. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/30/review-why-this-disney-coffee-makes-us-want-to-time-travel-back-to-2019/ Fans of sour cherry are in luck! Two Disneyland classics now have the option of being topped with sour cherry sugar. The first is a cream cheese filled pretzel, with the sour cherry sugar on top, the other is a churro with the same sour cherry sugar, with the option of cream cheese dipping sauce on the side for $1 more. For the pretzel, the Disney Food Blog reported that the flavors worked well together, but are incredibly sweet. Guests can grab one at the Tomorrowland Pretzel Cart for $7.75. The churro was better than the pretzel, and if you're going for a more mellow flavor, skip the sweet dipping sauce. The churro is at the Tomorrowland Churro Cart for $5.75. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/30/review-the-weird-flavor-combination-at-disneyland-that-actually-works/ Happy Lunar New Year! This year's celebration is proving to be quite popular judging by the lines for food being so long. Part of the slow down is the fewer booths than the other food festivals. – https://www.micechat.com/313478-disneyland-news-character-cost-construction-update/ You don't have to wait in long lines at the Lunar New Year Celebration to get one of the highlights! MiceChat has posted a garlic noodle copycat recipe. The meal takes about 20 minutes to make and takes about 10 ingredients. Basically, you cook the pasta and toss the other ingredients in a pan and cook, combining and then eat! – https://www.micechat.com/313441-the-disney-dish-disney-california-adventure-lunar-new-year-garlic-noodles/ Tomorrowland has some new merchandise that is wonderful! The new collection features the attractions of Tomorrowland, like Space Mountain and the PeopleMover. There is even a design for the land itself. The Tomorrowland Hooded long-sleeved t-shirt is $59.99 and has Tomorrowland in blue on the front, with drawings of past attractions as a pattern all over. The PeopleMover shirt, Tage's favorite, is a gray t-shirt with dark blue borders, the PeopleMover logo on the front, and a sketch like design of the Disneyland PeopleMover on the bottom for $29.99. Finally, there is a Space Mountain t-shirt, which is black with Space Mountain, Flights Departing Daily From Tomorrowland on the front, with the exterior of the attraction over the text for $24.99. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/01/photos-new-tomorrowland-attraction-apparel-flies-into-disneyland-resort/ With Mardi Gras coming up, there is a new dessert at the French Market to celebrate. The Mardi Gras Cocunut cake is $7.99 and has three layers of sponge cake in purple, yellow, and green, with coconut cream between the layers, and pastry cream dusted with coconut flakes on the outside. This is a limited time item, so act quick if this sounds delicious to you! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/01/review-mardi-gras-coconut-cake-is-worthy-of-the-royal-court-at-disneyland-park/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/01/review-new-strawberry-lemon-cake-at-plaza-inn-at-disneyland-park/ Valentines Day is just around the corner and there are plenty of things to do in the parks, as well as at Downtown Disney and the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. Specials from Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes, California Sole, Kayla's Cake, Lovepop, Pandora, and more are all offering specials. At the hotels, the Tenaya Stone Spa has a Rose and Roses Foot Treatment, the Grand Californian lobby has treats at the holiday cart, the GCH Craftsman Bar will have an assortment of coctails, and more. News: The holidays are coming to an end soon, but one holiday treat just arrived at Disneyland. The Holiday Dole Whip is now available at the Tropical Hideaway for $6.79. This version is a swirl of cherry and lime dole whip, with festive sprinkles and a gummy on top. The flavor has been described like cherry limeaid, being a bit sour, and very sweet. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/12/30/this-new-disneyland-dole-whip-tastes-like-sour-gummy-worms/ In Disney California Adventure's Paradise Gardens, guests can celebrate 3 Kings Day. From January 3rd through the 9th, special decorations and photo ops will be in the area to experience. – https://www.micechat.com/311498-disneyland-update-new-year-magic-and-mayhem/ Salt and Straw in Downtown Disney is at it again with more new flavors. This time, they are all vegan as well! The new flavors are inspired by cupcakes, with flavors like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, Coconut Cream Pie with Lemon Curd, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Rainbow Sprinkled Babycakes, and a Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake option. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/04/cupcakes-and-ice-cream-find-us-in-line-at-this-disney-scoop-shop/ Lovepop in Downtown Disney had a bit of a rough opening just before Christmas, and then was closed for a couple of days after. The new shop is open daily now and offers pop-up greeting cards with intricate designs. They also offer a line of Disney cards, but beyond that, they are just a unique greeting card store. – https://www.micechat.com/310913-disneyland-update-christmas-out-prices-up-and-changes-ahead/ This year, guests had a much better experience at the resort for the New Year celebration. With the reservation system being in place, the parks never closed their gates to guests and the crowds were pretty manageable. Fireworks were launched over Paradise Bay at DCA, and over Sleeping Beauty Castle on Main Street to ring in the new year. Stages were setup around the parks to host DJs for the evening. – https://www.micechat.com/311498-disneyland-update-new-year-magic-and-mayhem/ Magic Keyholders will have an updated location to dine soon. The Magic Key Terrace will be closing mid-January to add some more colorful elements, replace the furniture, and update the lighting fixtures. This update should really liven the place up and make it a more comfortable place to take a break and have a drink or a bite to eat. – https://www.micechat.com/311498-disneyland-update-new-year-magic-and-mayhem/ The Disneyland Hotel is getting some updates that are very magical. Carpet has been replaced near Goofy's Kitchen and now features designs inspired by Sleeping Beauty. The new carpet looks like it jumped right off the screen and onto the floor of the hotel. – https://www.micechat.com/310913-disneyland-update-christmas-out-prices-up-and-changes-ahead/ Listeners who have tickets for Villains Nite or Star Wars Nite that were rescheduled, this message is for you. Invest Alongside Boston's Top Angels: Our Syndicates - Get Qualified The need to re-skill is essential for workers confronting AI with obsolescent knowledge. Techstars alum Ace-Up is addressing this problem with a software platform that makes executive coaching more accessible and accountable. Founder Will Foussier opened for us a fascinating window into this important but obscure industry. Highlights include: Will Foussier a young Frenchman who studied in France and Switzerland, had stints at Ralph Lauren, Raymond James and the Clinton Global Initiative. At the Clinton Global Initiative Will Foussier had the opportunity to use an executive coach and came to realize how valuable it is. Companies ranging from GE to the dynamic startup LovePop are seeing the value of Ace-Up’s coaching platform. It’s expensive to hire people; coaching makes the most of company’s most valuable resource, its people. “We leverage technology to deploy personalized executive coaching in a way that is scalable, impactful and measurable.” At Sanofi, Ace-Up deploys coaching to more than 100 women leaders in 22 countries and in five different languages. The skills gap within organizations is wider than ever. In the 1990s people’s skills were relevant for almost 30 years, digitalization has reduced that to five years now. 2/3 of employees consider that they are not properly supported by their employers. Founding story: working as an analyst of the telecoms industry at Raymond James in London, Will wanted to do something more significant. This led him to the CGI where he learned how an executive coach can change your life. Will started to dream about using technology to make coaching more accessible. Ace-Up’s team is 18 people from diverse backgrounds. Sal talks about his early investment in Vedanta Biosciences, a leading company in the microbiome space. He invites those curious about the intriguing startups that abound in Boston to fill out the accredited investor form at AngelInvesBoston.com. Will credits the traction Ace-Up is getting to the effort to connect with a lot of people aided by the introductions and mentoring provided by Techstars. The stint at this top accelerator helped Ace-Up sharpen their message. Techstars’ focus on giving helped mold the culture at Ace-Up. Ace-Up wants to build a seamless platform for one-to-one remote learning that is progressive and keeps track of what works. They now have 500 coaches on their SaaS-enabled marketplace. The next step is to build value around this core market by providing rich learning content and benchmarking tools. Seeking to automate instructional design. Tend to work with the Chief People Officer or VP of Talent. User start by doing an assessment. The platform recommends coaches for the user to evaluate. Coach and employee/user jointly develop a coaching plan. The solution offered by Ace-Up is framed as a benefit for employees. By the end of 2019 Ace-Up expects to be at $2MM ARR by the end of 2020 they project $5MM ARR. By the end of 2019 they will be in 100 companies. The goal is to develop long-term collaborations with their client companies. 94% of Millennials consider that the reason to stay at a company is career development, this places an emphasis on companies supporting the development of their employees through executive coaching. It’s getting harder and harder for companies with bad cultures to compete in today’s marketplace. They can’t hide anymore. Building an employer brand is growing in importance. Will realized at the Clinton Global Initiative that his calling was to redistribute opportunities to others. Coaching is an amazing way to do that. Inspiring. Will and Sal speculate how by 2030 Ace-Up’s services could be broadly available. Will thinks that coaching and mentoring will inevitably continue to grow and that this trend will greatly benefit the country. Will’s advice to founders: (1) every moment counts, make the best of it, and (2) get out of your comfort zone. Will emphasizes the importance of having a vision, which at first may be unpolished but which eventually, through effort, can be refined.

As surprising as it may seem, some industries still haven't fully adapted to the digital world. There are still industries where purchases are made via signed contracts, not through a smooth ecommerce checkout process. But that is changing. Veronica Armstrong is personally looking to infiltrate the wedding industry with an ecommerce mindset. She is the head of marketing at Mayflower Venues, an online marketplace that helps you discover and book unique wedding venues. And Veronica is no stranger to building a brand from the ground up. As employee #4 at Lovepop cards, she saw that brand go from unknown to Sharktank to dominating the specialty card market.

There's no doubt, The VentureFizz Podcast is the top podcast focused on entrepreneurship and tech across Boston & New York. Before I introduce today's guests, I do want to take a moment to say some “thank yous” to: -Christina Luconi, Chief People Officer at Rapid7, for being my very first guest and being willing to experiment. -All of our guests, for taking the time to share your background and all the amazing advice for others (including myself) to learn from. -Alex Culafi. Alex does lots of different things here at VentureFizz, but it was his knowledge in this world of podcasting that allowed us to start creating this amazing content. -And, of course, you, our audience, for listening to all of these great stories. I hope each interview has maybe provided you with a little bit of inspiration and some helpful tips that you can apply to your own business. Thank you, thank you, and thank you! or this milestone episode, I was excited to interview Wombi Rose and John Wise, the Founders of Lovepop. I first learned about Lovepop through TJ Mahony, who made an investment in the company, and it was one of those companies that immediately made sense. The greeting card industry was in need of disruption and Wombi & John's background in naval architecture made them uniquely qualified to tackle this market. Lovepop creates beautiful laser-cut pop-up cards, and the company is on a mission to create one billion magical moments. You might have seen Lovepop on ABC's Shark Tank, when they landed an investment from Kevin O'Leary, who is still very involved in the company today. Since then, Lovepop has done an amazing job of building a successful consumer brand and scaling the company. In this episode of our podcast, we cover lots of topics, like: -Wombi and John's backgrounds, including how they met in college and reunited at Harvard Business School. -The inspiration behind their product and a deep dive into the history of the company. -How Lovepop's business was built from the ground up, and lessons learned along the way. -The whole Shark Tank experience and what it has meant for the company. -Advice for founders looking to build a consumer brand. -How the company determines whether a potential hire will be a good fit. -Plus, a lot more. Brex, the corporate credit card for startups, is the sponsor for this week's podcast. Brex founders Henrique and Pedro built a payments business in Brazil but kept getting rejected for a corporate credit card when they were in Y Combinator. So they decided to build Brex, with instant online sign-up, no founder liability required and limits 10 to 20 times higher than standard cards; it is a must-have for entrepreneurs. Disclaimer: "The opinions stated herein are those of Warren Katz, and do not reflect the position of the US Air Force." Warren Katz, CEO of Techstars (techstars.com), provides a detailed analysis of the current state of technology startups, and the assistance his company can deliver to steer them in the right direction, help them reach their goals, and launch their products faster. Warren Katz is the managing director of Techstars Autonomous Technology Accelerator with the US Air Force, a partnership designed to increase active engagement between promising startups with state-of-the-art counter-drone technologies, and the Department of Defense. Katz was President of Neurala, a top artificial intelligence company that is focused on AI with continuous learning. Additionally, Katz co-founded MÄK Technologies, which was later acquired by VT Systems of Alexandria, Virginia. Katz is a mentor to many industry leaders as well as an angel investor who notably invested in Harmonix, GrabCAD, Neurala, Oblong, Bevi, LovePop, and PetNet. He holds bachelor's degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Katz discusses his work with the US Air Force to help them keep pace with emerging commercial technologies. But beyond the US Air Force, many private sector companies are also looking to Techstars to accelerate their connections to the latest technology. Techstars' team combs through thousands of startups and selects an elite group of the most viable and commercially relevant, that are either currently manufacturing or about to manufacture groundbreaking technology. After the selections are made, Techstars vets those selected and assists them with advanced development toward their launch. Techstars is the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed while helping companies access the technology they need. And Techstars Corporate Partners provides powerful industry expertise by offering hands-on mentorship, as well as strategic business development, and access to abundant resources to help startups accelerate their overall progress toward their goals. And with 150 countries involved, 10,000 mentors, and 300,000 alumni, it's clear that valuable connections are being made. The technology expert discusses some of the hard problems that the Department of Defense (DOD) faces in its struggle to bring the best tech on board. He states that while the DOD has big pockets, their money does not flow as easily as some private industry companies, and the wheels for progress are often slower moving. For these and other reasons, Katz states that many of the best tech startups are choosing to work in the private sector to avoid headaches and to accelerate their progress. Thus, Katz is helping the US Air Force to streamline their process, to make it easier for the best and brightest startups to say yes to working with them first. By combining outside money with the startup, the DOD can accelerate their process as well, and be less drained financially as two separate teams are working to advance the technology and deliver robust products. Katz gives an overview of some of the most exciting technology startups that he is working with. From blockchain advances to invisible ink and specialty drones, the technology products are diverse and offer amazing advances for the public and private sector. He discusses drones that attack other drones, technology that can map cellular and WIFI signals and locate unauthorized or enemy equipment, drone-based radiation detectors, and more. As technology and autonomous products continue to advance, Katz expects to see many probes and unmanned devices taking their place on the battlefield and in the private industry world as well.

So naturally, when Wombi got a call from his friend John Wise encouraging him to apply for Harvard and go into business together, Wombi was in. When it comes to luxury weddings and events, every detail can become a work of art. Today, I am talking all about business with Wombi Rose, CEO of Lovepop. Lovepop specializes in 3D greeting cards that are truly works of art. Whether it is a card for someone you love or unique invitations to a wedding, Lovepop communicates your message and affection in a unique and surprising way you just can’t find anywhere else. I am excited to have Wombi on the show today because his business is transforming the greeting card game. It is an unusual story that I know you are going to want to hear. Lovepop cards are a feat of both artistry and engineering, which makes sense once you know about Wombi’s background. Before turning to business, Wombi’s attended school for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Encouraged by friend and future business partner, John Wise, to join him at Harvard Business school, Wombi found a new avenue that combined his love of learning and desire to solve real-world problems. While completing his studies, Wombi experienced firsthand the beautiful paper art of kirigami in Vietnam. He and John were mesmerized by the cards and knew they were something special. Neither of the guys felt inclined towards consumer goods, but the kirigami cards demanded to be brought to the rest of the world! These 3D cards combine artistry and architecture in a beautiful way that is very much like Wombi himself, a juxtaposition of art and science. “We memorized our entire business and our entire financial model. You have to know your numbers on Shark Tank.” - Wombi Rose If the name Lovepop sounds familiar, it’s most likely because Wombi’s company is one of the greatest success stories from Shark Tank. I asked Wombi all about the process of applying for and then being on Shark Tank, and he was more than happy to share the experience. What compelled Kevin O’Leary to back Lovepop was their desire to spread some love with beautiful art. These guys are turning out a new magnificent design each week, and it is evident that talent runs deep in the DNA at Lovepop. Wombi and his team have a strong business model and a deep desire to make the world a little more beautiful, and that is the heart of so many of us in the Wedding Business. Show Highlights: Wombi shares his international history as well as his love of learning. Hear how Wombi fell in love with one unique school, and the art and science he learned about constructing ships. How one internship and the team atmosphere there led him to consulting and starting a business with John. Why designing a ship and designing a 3D card has striking similarities. Wombi and his colleagues took a huge risk, and boy has it paid off! What compelled Wombi to apply to appear on Shark Tank, and what it takes to survive. Discover what happens after the cameras stop rolling. Wombi and John made it to the Billboard Music Awards. Learn all about the Possible Project. Episode 203 - Why's it feel so good, Taylor Nation?  Warning.. If Taylor says it, we can say it! We may or may not have dropped a few swear words in this episode as we walk through an in-depth analysis of "I Did Something Bad." Our hosts explore how this track connects to the larger album-wide theme of how one's reputation is formed, how Taylor uses a literary device called antithesis to place emphasis on important concepts, and how her references to the Salem witch trials and possibly the play The Crucible are shown through a modern day lens of media and fan frenzies.  Also, be sure to check out our sponsor for the episode, Lovepop, for some AMAZING 3-D cards - receive special pricing on 5 or more cards plus FREE shipping when you visit LovePop.com/TaylorTalk.
