A supported Xbox disc can be authenticated and connected to a player's digital library, potentially giving players digital access while the disc itself continues to function as the transferable proof of ownership. That last part is important. If the disc is sold and authenticated by somebody else, the digital access moves with it. For Sorg, who has stacks of Xbox One games and a console with a failed optical drive, this could solve a very practical problem. Xbox is rolling out disc to digital, letting you drop an Xbox One or Series X disc into your console and unlock the digital version using the license baked into the game. Thousands of titles are supported at launch, older systems are on the roadmap, and I went straight to GameStop and grabbed six used games at two dollars each on a buy two get one free sale.I walked through exactly how this works, because the comments on Threads had a lot of people convinced it was a trap. You put the disc in, it reads the license off the game, and the digital copy unlocks on your account. From that point you can play on another console, on PC through Play Anywhere, or on your phone, and you do not need the disc in the tray anymore. The disc is not consumed or damaged in the process, and if you lend it out, the license travels to whoever is playing it. Not every game qualifies for that level of access, so the supported list matters. I am a physical media guy with shelves of Blu rays and DVDs behind me, and none of this changes that. It just means my shelf now doubles as a digital library. Old Overholt is also back with a new 11-year Cask Strength Rye. The 2026 release comes in at 125.6 proof, making it notably stronger than the previous 11-year edition. Then The Macallan closes out its Harmony Collection with two coconut-inspired releases: Inspired by Fresh Coconut and Inspired by Toasted Coconut. They are not flavored whiskies, but their tasting profiles promise coconut milk, lime, tropical fruit, crème caramel, white chocolate, charred pineapple, and frangipane. On the gaming side, a leaked Xbox plan could be a major win for physical media collectors. The rumored disc-to-digital program would let players register physical Xbox One games as digital copies, with Xbox 360 support potentially following later. Finally, it's time for a throwback Byte-Sized Review of J.P. Wiser's 23 Year Old Cask Strength Canadian Whisky. Originally released in 2019, this blend of 23-year-old corn and rye whiskies was bottled at a massive 128.6 proof and originally sold for around $149 Canadian—approximately $106 US at the time. Seven years later, it still delivers bright citrus, blueberry, caramel, vanilla, rye bread, syrupy honey texture, cinnamon-roll sweetness, subtle oak, vintage tobacco, and an exceptionally long finish. Is this still one of the best Canadian whiskies ever released?

#retrogaming #ps4 #xboxone Before we get to the big episode 500, let's take a look back at where it all began. Back in 2013, podcasting was still just crawling out of its primordial ooze. And for some reason, we decided to dive right into it. We soon discovered that a) podcasting is hard and b) we loved talking passionately about the things we care about. This is the start of an adventure that would lead to countless beers reviewed, conversations had, and bonds cemented. This episode is NOT good. In fact, it's packed with stutters, dead air, boring banter, and two guys in waaaay over their heads. But it was the start. Cheers to new beginnings and the fact that we've gotten at least marginally better at this thing.

More developments and releases surrounding mostly the PS4 and PS5 in this episode! This starts out with mentioning tico, an emulator frontend for the Switch which brings native GameCube and Wii emulation to the Switch in a recent update. The PS4 and PS5 license change which was quietly released recently gets broken down and explained here as well, just before the news of the PS5 Linux Loader dropping! We also see a new jailbreak for PS5 working up to firmware 12.70 which requires some patience if you can spare a couple hours per run. There's also some pretty neat releases here for the PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and even Xbox One! Tune in and enjoy.
