On Monday, May 4, the Supreme Court issued a temporary stay on a lower court's order that mifepristone, a drug commonly used in early-term abortions, can only be prescribed and dispensed in person. The order pauses the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals's decision to prevent the drug from being accessed by mail. Years ago, Ray Charles sang: “Them that's got is them that gets, and I ain't got nothin' yet.”Millions of workaday Americans today are wailing that blues refrain, thanks to price increases caused by Donald Trump's slap-happy tariff policy. He gloated that by imposing import levies of $166 billion on foreign companies, they would be forced to lower the prices they charge us. But, Professor Trump, nearly all tariffs are passed along to us consumers, so you're raising our prices! Indeed, on average, his tariffs have jacked up costs for every American household by about $1,500 a year!But the Supreme Court has now decreed Trump's tariffs illegal, so those who paid them are entitled to refunds. Great! Walmart rushed to the front of the line, demanding a $10 billion refund, while other giants are demanding paybacks of more than a billion each.But wait. What about you? Those corporations had paid Trump's tariffs with money they got by raising prices on you and me. In short, WE THE CONSUMERS paid about 90 percent of that $166 billion out of our pockets. So where's our refund?So far, only Costco has publicly pledged to pass the refund back to its customers, while other corporate giants just wink and pocket the cash. For example, a Walmart executive simply announced that “[We will] certainly avail ourselves” of any refund process.Economists have a technical word for that process: “Stealing.” The Walmarts jack up their prices to pay for Trump's tariff scam, then grab the refunds that workaday consumers are owed. The approval expands the previous indication from those aged eight and above and was granted under a priority review process. This decision is supported by one-year data from the PETITE-T1D Phase IV study, which evaluated the safety and pharmacokinetics of Tzield in children under eight years old. Tzield was approved for use in individuals 8+ in stage 2 T1D in 2022. Since then, we have been working to expand the eligible population. This expansion effort includes individuals in stage 3 T1D, who can preserve endogenous insulin production for longer when they take Tzield and, most notably today, children in stage 2. https://www.breakthrought1d.org/news-and-updates/tzield-approved-for-children-ages-one-and-older-in-stage-2-t1d/   XX Big write up in the journal Pediatrics about screening for type 1. Moreover, GLP-1 agonist use in people with T1D was associated with lower overall rates of hospitalization, as has occurred in type 2 diabetes Although GLP-1 agonists are not approved by the FDA for T1D management, off-label adjunctive use has risen for those with obesity. Semaglutide was the most commonly-used GLP-1 (65.5% of GLP-1 users) followed by tirzepatide (23.5%). The rest were using the older-generation drugs: liraglutide or dulaglutide. In January 2026, the Canadian patent for Ozempic will expire, paving the way for cheap generic versions of the semaglutide injections that help regulate blood sugar levels and appetite. Health Canada said this generic, like existing products, is indicated to be used for the "once-weekly treatment of adult patients with Type 2 diabetes to manage blood sugar levels." With three generics on the market, Tadrous said the price could drop to about $100 or less, depending on their dose. The Company received Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval in March 2026 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Company plans to submit a 510(k) filing to the FDA in 2027 and launch its FCL AID system for T2D in 2028.   XX insulet Corporation (PODD) has initiated a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Omnipod 5 insulin delivery Pods in the U.S. after detecting that some devices had a manufacturing defect that causes insulin leakage.   Patients using the affected devices could risk experiencing high blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin delivery, the Acton, Massachusetts-based MedTech disclosed in a statement late Thursday. The company has already notified the FDA about the recall, which it said will affect nearly 1.5% of Omnipod 5 pod units it manufactures annually. Tandem says t:slim X2 and Mobi are the first and only commercially available AID systems cleared for use during pregnancy in the U.S. https://www.drugdeliverybusiness.com/tandem-fda-clearance-aid-pregnancy-t1d/ XX Tandem also issued an urgent medical device correction for a software problem with its Mobi insulin pumps. The malfunction may cause insulin delivery to stop, causing high blood sugar if not addressed, the Food and Drug Administration said in a Wednesday recall notice. We told you about this back in October when Tandem sent a letter to customers notifying them of the fault and instructing them to update their pump software as soon as possible. In a real-world analysis presented at the International Conference on Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes, researchers found that CGM metrics for patients who switched from the Guardian 4 sensor (MiniMed) to Instinct by Abbott were able to maintain a time in range of greater than 75%. "When it comes to the automated insulin delivery system ... I think the sensor matters less and the system matters more," Viral N. Shah, MD, professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology and metabolism and director of diabetes clinical research at Indiana University Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, said during a presentation. "Having a different sensor with the system, I think the [glycemic] outcomes will still be what you want." This was found after a second look at large study where researchers found vitamin d really did make a difference.. a second look with people who had a specific gene variation had much better results. The launch comes a few months after the company picked up CE mark for the long-term, implantable CGM in January. Eversense 365 is the world's first 365-day CGM system. It also holds clearance as an integrated CGM (iCGM) system, meaning it can work with compatible medical devices. Those include insulin pumps as part of automated insulin delivery systems, like the Sequel Med Tech twiist system. The company said it made Eversense 365 available to the first patients in Sweden. It plans to bring the sensor to Germany, Spain and Italy in the coming weeks https://www.drugdeliverybusiness.com/senseonics-launches-eversense-365-europe/ XX A machine learning model can improve genetic prediction of type 1 diabetes by as much as 10%, show results from a University of California, San Diego study.   The researchers used the machine‑learning model T1GRS to improve on a gold standard polygenic genetic risk score used to predict who is likely to develop the condition called GRS2. The GRS2 polygenic risk score has been widely tested and can be used to predict newborns who are at high risk of developing type 1 diabetes. While early prediction can't necessarily stop the disease it can help to prevent emergencies like diabetic ketoacidosis at diagnosis, allow families time to prepare and could allow use of therapies to delay onset of the condition. In this study, Gaulton and colleagues carried out a genome‑wide association study in 20,355 people with type 1 diabetes and 797,363 non‑diabetic Europeans, as well as a further analysis around the MHC region in 10,107 diabetic and 19,639 nondiabetic individuals. https://www.insideprecisionmedicine.com/topics/molecular-dx/machine-learning-tool-helps-improve-type-1-diabetes-prediction/ XX Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said Monday that he will return to the upper chamber this week after taking time off for the death of his daughter, Madison.   The Virginia senator wrote on the social platform X, "As we remember our incredible daughter, Maddy, my family has been deeply touched by the outpouring of support we've received. Thank you to everyone for your kind words." Madison Warner, 36, died earlier this month after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues. Mark Warner and his wife, Lisa Collis, wrote in a statement last Monday that they were "heartbroken beyond words" by their daughter's passing.   On Monday, the former Virginia governor said his daughter "was a deeply empathetic and engaged person" and that "as recently as the day she passed, she was full of ideas and suggestions" for him, including how he could improve his social media presence.   "She used to say to me: 'Dad, you have the power — you have to use it.' The Community of Jesus was founded in 1970 by two housewives, Cay Anderson and Judy Sorensen. They told members they were "God's anointed" with a direct line to God. Any authority figure they appointed carried that same divine authority. Members were taught to obey without questioning the leadership's authority. I spoke with former member and award-nominated writer Ewan Whyte. His fifth book, Mothers of Invention: Essays on the Community of Jesus and Grenville Christian College, details life inside this cult and its affiliated boarding school in Canada. Ewan was raised in the group from childhood. He knows this organization from the inside, and what he shares deserves your full attention. The Community of Jesus is one of three surviving original covenant communities founded in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The other two are the Word of God, founded in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and People of Praise 1972, - founded around the same time and known today as the community Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett is closely associated with. Of the three, the Community of Jesus has been, as Ewan argues, is historically, the most politically influential in shaping American evangelical culture of today. Here is something that stops most people cold: the most important best-selling book of Christian nationalism, The Light and the Glory, was secretly written inside this cult. As Ewan documents in his book, this revisionist version of American history, which argues that God intended the founding the United States to be a Christian nation, was produced by Community of Jesus members David Manuel and Peter Marshall Jr. Their work became a cornerstone text for the Christian nationalist movement and has shaped the beliefs of millions of Americans. Cold War Series, #2 of 4.  During the Lavender Scare, the US government fired hundreds (but possibly thousands) of civil servants for being gay or lesbian, ostensibly because of a Communist-panic in which Americans were convinced a homosexual could be blackmailed into giving up state secrets to those rascally Soviets. Turns out, though they weren't particularly successful at it, the Soviets did try to use sex scandals of all kinds to cultivate spies from the “West” -- including, but not limited to, queer Westerners traveling or working in the USSR. The “honeypot” entrapment was a coercive measure used on all sides of the Iron Curtain to try and get state secrets. And while there's no morality in spy games, the true story of the men used by the KGB to try and tip the scales in the information race of the Cold War is pretty sad--but also a useful window onto the Soviet attitudes toward same-sex desire, the unique relationships of queer citizens to their respective countries, and the messed-up games that characterized the US-USSR struggle for world dominance. I can still remember staring at the screen and listening to the verdict that the officers had been acquitted. I felt utter shock, on one hand, and deja vu, on the other. I, like millions of Americans, watched the video footage ad nauseam of the brutal beating of Rodney King at the hands of the LAPD and thought to myself there was no way these cops would get off. Yet many, including in my neighborhood of Richmond, California, were less sanguine about the prospect of justice being delivered. Such skepticism proved well-founded. Americans have had to remove the late Cesar Chavez from the pedestals we've put him on amidst a recent torrent of credible allegations aimed at him of sexual abuse, rape and pedophilia. The White House Correspondents' Dinner last weekend became the site of the third failed attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump. “I remember the feeling was very similar to when it was clear that the House had been invaded on January 6, 2021,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who was in attendance, tells The Intercept Briefing. “Everybody was afraid that somebody had come in with an AR-15 or something like that.”This week on the podcast, host Akela Lacy speaks to Raskin about his experience at the dinner and later being asked by CNN's Dana Bash about whether he's thinking twice about his “heated rhetoric” toward Trump. “It was curious that, in the wake of this terrible episode, that she would try to equate the way that Democrats talk and the way that President Trump talks,” says Raskin. “He calls people crazy, insane. He calls people evil, wicked. He will buttonhole reporters and tell them that they're stupid, they're ugly. ... But we try to keep it at the level of policies and their actions.” Some examples, which Raskin discusses, is his forthcoming investigation into Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's role in the administration and conflicts of interest, and his fight in Congress to stop the reauthorization of warrantless surveillance on Americans.After this latest assassination attempt on Trump's life, claims that it was staged flooded the internet, from comments section to social media posts to videos of influencers dissecting alleged evidence.“We are so conditioned to distrust what we are being told by authorities that people immediately began concocting conspiracy theories about it even before we even knew what had happened. In the spring of 2026, Israel and the United States conducted joint offensive military operations against Iran: coordinating targets, dividing airspace, and operating with a degree of integration that has no precedent in the history of the alliance. The operation significantly degraded Iran's military capabilities, and it marked what many analysts regard as a genuine turning point, not just in the regional balance of power, but in the nature of the American-Israeli relationship itself. For decades, that relationship had been structured as a powerful patron supporting a dependent client. What the Iran war suggested to some observers is that Israel has—at least in part—outgrown that structure. That is the backdrop for a debate that is now live in both Jerusalem and Washington: what should American military aid to Israel look like when the current memorandum of understanding between the two countries expires in 2028? The U.S. currently provides Israel with approximately $3.5 billion annually in grants, earmarked for the purchase of American-made military equipment—an arrangement that dates to the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War and that has been renewed, and periodically enlarged, ever since. For most of that period, the case for the aid seemed self-evident. First the Arab states, and then Iran and its proxies, were actively threatening Israel's existence. American military and diplomatic support was an indispensable buttress of Israel's security. Whether that case remains self-evident today, in the wake of a war that has significantly diminished Iranian capabilities, is now a serious question being debated by Israelis and Americans of good faith, with thoughtful arguments on multiple sides. In this episode, Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver speaks with a proud Israeli patriot who has been making the case for ending American aid for some time. On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the AP article reporting James Comey's second indictment was grotesque propaganda - an opinion piece that leads with accusations of vindictive prosecution by the Trump administration's Justice Department. The piece notes Comey's history feuding with Trump and his role in the Russia investigation but these details are irrelevant to the charge. Comey's explanation for the 8647 seashells is unbelievable—especially for a former FBI director. Also, Iran is overflowing with oil and desperately seeking storage in quarries, old ships, and anywhere possible because President Trump has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz—taking it over in response to Iran's actions—preventing them from exporting oil. They continue pumping but have nowhere to store it; shutting down the wells risks destroying or rendering many unworkable.  The U.S. should give Iran two options – unconditional surrender or we finish Iran off. Later, the Democrat Party has a long history of violence and embracing humanity's worst traits. Democrats target Trump because he stands between them and the people, loves America and its founding. Their inflammatory language, labeling Trump as Hitler or a dictator, is designed to incite violence against ICE, police, and the president through mobs funded by billionaires and networks.
