SPOILER FREE: 0:00-31:30SPOILER TALK: 31:30-1:10:07In this episode of Horror Hour with the Hanna's, we take a hard look at The Monkey (2025), the latest Stephen King adaptation directed by Osgood Perkins and produced by James Wan. With a stacked cast—including Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Elijah Wood—this horror-comedy attempts to bring King's chilling short story to life. But does it succeed, or does the cymbal-banging terror lose its rhythm? We break down the film's tonal shifts, its blend of horror and comedy, and whether the changes from King's original story enhance or dilute the scares. While Perkins leans into a darkly humorous approach, does it undercut the horror? And does The Monkey justify its feature-length runtime, or does it stretch a simple concept too far?Join us as we analyze where The Monkey lands—does it deliver the frights, or is this one toy best left collecting dust?In this episode we are joined by Brandon from Haunted US. We're talking about the Stephen King written, James Wan produced, and Osgood Perkins directed The Monkey.
Osgood Perkins...awesome director. Stephen King...prolific horror writer. James Wan...legend in the horror genre. Is this film an easy win?
Director Osgood Perkins is most famous for the recent genre smash, Longlegs, and he brings his unique point of view to The Monkey, which is out in theaters now from Neon and James Wan's Atomic Monster. Make sure to check out the movie and read Kingcast co-host Anthony Breznican's wonderful Vanity Fair profile on Osgood Perkins.

To celebrate, they're plunging into the eerie world of Ozgood Perkins' "The Monkey." But that's not all... In this delightfully bizarre episode, the hosts will: Welcome Sarah!: Celebrate Sarah's arrival as a full-fledged Intern, hearing her first official takes and insights. Crispin Glover's Auditory Oddity: Take a detour into the strange and weird world of Crispin Glover's 1989 album, including a brief dive into his unsettling "Clowny Clown Clown" song. Decode "The Monkey": Dive into the unsettling atmosphere and psychological chills of Ozgood Perkins' latest horror offering, analyzing its themes and unique style. The Stephen "King-Dom": Uncover the history of Stephen King's works, and how this film's adaptation falls into the overarching universe the author has interwoven throughout his stories. Connecting the Unconnected?: Attempt to find thematic links (or hilarious contrasts) between Perkins' horror and Glover's avant-garde audio experience. Join The Filmlosophers for an episode that's equal parts insightful film analysis and delightfully off-the-rails exploration of artistic eccentricity. James Wan is famous for Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, and Aquaman, but he's also produced a few Stephen King adaptations, including The Monkey, which is being released February 21st. We talk a lot about working with Osgood Perkins, how perfectly horror and comedy can work together if crafted correctly, his version of The Tommyknockers which never made it off the ground, and his love of Stephen King's It.

It's the final installment of the main Conjuring franchise (for now) and a case that tests the very limits... of Peter Safran and James Wan's ability to spin the Warrens' nonsense into a supernatural horror story. Can they take the tale of a guy who got drunk and committed manslaughter into a courtroom drama about demonic possession? Or will they have to cut away before the judge gets a single line? Was 2024 a landmark year for horror? It certainly felt like a breath of fresh air, with a surge of original ideas and films, moving away from the franchise-heavy landscape of recent years. Instead of relying on familiar cash cows, filmmakers delivered truly innovative horror experiences. Critically acclaimed films like The Substance garnered awards attention, and even Nosferatu is generating Oscar buzz. We've witnessed exciting career shifts: Hugh Grant is proving his range beyond romantic comedies, and Demi Moore is finally receiving well-deserved praise for her acting prowess. Industry giants Blumhouse and James Wan's Atomic Monster have joined forces, while Nicolas Cage embraces the genre with full force. And the competition is heating up in the independent horror scene, with Neon giving A24 a run for its money. From groundbreaking storytelling to impressive box office numbers, 2024 has given horror fans plenty to celebrate and sets the stage for an exciting 2025. Join host Joe Zakrzewski and RedRiverHorror.com founder Eddie Caiazzo as they delve into this exciting year of horror on episode 113 of the Red River Horror podcast.

The game “Pacific Drive” came out last year from Seattle-based Ironwood Studios, and it made a BIG splash for the company. So much so that Hollywood is taking notice: “Saw” creator James Wan’s production company announced last month it has optioned Pacific Drive to develop it into a television series. The Pacific Northwest is home to some major power players in the videogame industry. But this is a big win for an indie game studio. The game pays homage to the our region, with a setting that feels familiar: the Olympic Peninsula, in 1998. Albeit an alternate timeline, extra creepy version of the peninsula. We wanted to learn more about the role of the Pacific Northwest in the game’s creation, and what success means for this local independent company. Episode 61 of Goodfriends is longggg overdue! Recorded over the summer, Braden and Diego discuss all things movies and horror!
