The two disciples' encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus teaches us so much about prayer and faith.   Jesus walks with us whether we realize it or not.  He is interested in what is happening in our lives and also in how it affects us.  His presence in the dialogue of prayer, in the Eucharist and in Scripture should be places where we regularly seek his companionship and counsel.

His destination was his dream in his heart - the Beijing Opera House. He especially loved the rhythm of the orchestra and the beauty of the opera's sets. He always sat alone in his old leather seat, enjoying the tranquility. However, he was feeling a little different today. En: As he entered the gardens of the opera house, his eyes were drawn to a piece of art. It wasn't the ancient statue that shimmered with gold in the courtyard, but the short, weathered stone statue. Reading the name of the prototype on the plaque, "Li Bai," he imagined the man who laughed in the mountains and walked towards the statue.Zh: “你好,李白。”张伟心情复杂地对着雕像说道。En: "Hello, Li Bai," Zhang Wei said to the statue with mixed emotions.Zh: 他开始向雕僐藏述心中的困惑和压力,他希望能从李白那个追求自由恣意生活的人格中得到解答和提示。然而,雕像只是静静的矗立在那里,张伟的讲述只得到了风的响应。En: He began to describe his confusion and pressure to the statue, hoping to find answers and guidance from the personality of Li Bai, who pursued a life of freedom and indulgence. However, the statue just stood there quietly, and Zhang Wei's narrative only received the response of the wind.Zh: 此时一位保洁阿姨过来,看到了这一幕,她走过来问:“先生,你确定你和雕像讲话吗?”En: At this moment, a cleaning aunt came over and saw the scene. She walked up and asked, "Sir, are you sure you were talking to the statue?"Zh: 张伟愣住了,然后非常羞涩地说:“我只是误以为……他可能回答我。”En: Zhang Wei was stunned, then very shyly said, "I just thought... he might answer me."Zh: 保洁阿姨微笑着说:“你没有错,每个人都需要找个出口来表达自己,就像我经常和这些花草树木说话一样。”En: The cleaning aunt smiled and said, "You're not wrong. Everyone needs to find an outlet to express themselves, just like how I often talk to these flowers, plants, and trees."Zh: 张伟惭愧地低下了头,他现在才意识到他一直以来寻找的并不是别人的回应,而是自己内心的宁静和释放。也许人真的需要有个地方去倾诉,无论是谁,都需要有种方式来宣泄自己的压力。张伟非常感谢这个陌生的阿姨,她的一句话瞬间点亮了他的世界。En: Zhang Wei felt ashamed and lowered his head. He realized now that what he had been seeking was not the response of others, but the peace and release within himself. Perhaps people truly need a place to confide in, and everyone needs a way to relieve their stress. Zhang Wei was very grateful to this stranger aunt. Her words instantly brightened his world.Zh: 然后,张伟微笑着向阿姨道了谢,然后他开始用新的视角看待歌剧,在音乐的交汇中找寻自我,找寻故事,找寻人生。En: Then, Zhang Wei smiled and thanked the aunt, and he began to view opera from a new perspective, searching for himself, stories, and life in the intersection of music.Zh: 这就是一个平凡而又不平凡的日子——张伟在一个风和日丽的下午,与李白的雕像诉说生活中的困扰与压力,在一个普通的阿姨的提点下,找到了看待问题的新视角,为他的心灵带来了宁静。En: This was an ordinary yet extraordinary day - Zhang Wei, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, shared the troubles and pressures of life with the statue of Li Bai. He watched her for a long time before he slowly shook his head. “Try again.” Hermione huffed, irritated beyond reason that he'd seen through it. “I want somebody to read a book I told them about,” she said, picking at her nail bed. “Just because they want to feel close to me.” It came out horribly vulnerable, a needy and naked thing that ought to be clothed. Confiding in Malfoy of all people probably wasn't wise, but he was a man transformed, no longer hollowed out by fear. He didn't haunt the halls in penance; he lived it through his interest in his Muggle-born students, in her. If anybody was the ghost here, it was Hermione. In today's episode, I'm joined by my good friend Stephanie Dickinson (also a relationship coach), and we're talking all about asking for our desires from our partners. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit down for a heart-to-heart with us. In this episode, Stephanie & I share our real-life, intimate stories around asking for what we want from our partners.  As we've discovered, it's not easy to ask for what we want. We often build stories around why what we want isn't possible, or we drop our desires before we get the courage to ask for them.  Here we give you tangible ways to break down the process — how to identify a desire in ourselves and the feelings that come up around the desire, how to approach the desire with a partner, friend, or loved one, and how to be open to others' desires when we're on the receiving side of a request.  We also explore masculine/feminine dynamics and how to work with the opposing energies when it comes to asking for a desire.  If this episode moves you, please let me know by reaching out by email (megandlambert@gmail.com), Instagram DM (@megandlambert), or leaving a review to let us know your thoughts!  If you're curious about our offerings, visit us at www.integratedintimacy.co. Even when we've grabbed the gold ring, it's possible to feel like something is missing. That was the case for Dr. Michelle Quirk, a pediatrician whose career and life were firing on all pistons … and yet. She felt burned out and boxed in. On this episode of She Turned Entrepreneur we learn how, step by step, the founder of Mindful Marathon, a coaching practice devoted to aspiring runners, hit her stride! Michelle didn't want to abandon her medical practice, but still had to face the fact that it wasn't bringing her enough of what she wanted. For anyone else who has experienced this gnawing feeling, she has some advice: First, take a pause. Spend some time with yourself. In Michelle's case, she cleared space for taking long runs. And before she knew it? Michelle had completed her first marathon and gotten clarity about this much: She was passionate about running! Knowing what you love is the entrepreneur's first challenge. What Michelle did next was equally important, however. She looked for a sounding board, in her case a fellow physician who had found a way to add a new venture while keeping her medical practice going at the same time. It was an “aha” for Michelle, who envisioned Mindful Marathon for the first time. Today she's got a thriving practice, coaching one-to-one and in small groups, offering a virtual race series, designing training plans and running retreats. Whatever your goal – running a marathon or building a business – Michelle will inspire you with her story, resources and simple tips for shifting from stuck to full steam ahead! Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· You don't have to run a marathon. Just lace up your shoes and start with five minutes!· As was the case for Michelle, entrepreneurial ventures offer an opportunity to reimagine or reinvent our identities. · If you undertake an entrepreneurial venture, some people will ask if you've lost your mind. But you will also find plenty of cheerleaders. Stick with the latter!· Have a passion? With time and patience, you can find a way to turn it into a business. · Burnout Remedy: Take a step back and spend some time with yourself.· If you're feeling stuck, don't hesitate to seek counsel from a friend, a therapist or coach.· Are you a new runner? Start low and go slow. Find a pace that's comfortable for you!· If you stay consistent you will get there – in running, in business, in life! Here's a quick look into the episode:· Michelle's evolution from being a kid who hated running to being a periodic runner in her young adult years to becoming a devotee when she discovered the restorative nature of running as part of a self-care plan during a particularly stressful period of life.· At the peak of her career as a young pediatrician, Michelle hit a patch where she was training but felt like she needed something more. The decision to run her first marathon proved transformational.· Michelle hasn't quit medicine so much as folded it into her coaching enterprise and overall identity. She felt the desire to get out of the box and try something new.· Mindful Marathon offers one-to-one coaching, group programs for beginners, a virtual race series, training plans and running retreats.· Creating a Niche: Michelle followed her passion and evolved it organically, which afforded her time and space to find ways to marry medicine with running.· Michelle has been able to maintain a medical practice and a coaching practice by setting up dedicated work hours for both.· When she felt stuck on a treadmill, literally and metaphorically, Michelle got intentional. She took time to pause and be with herself, which she did while out on long runs that ultimately helped her get clarity about her purpose and the direction she needed to go.· Confiding in a fellow physician who had started a coaching practice in addition to her medical practice proved a gamechanger for Michelle, for whom it opened up a new path.· Tips for Wannabe Runners:1. Wherever you are in terms of conditioning, get moving.2. Start low and go slow.3. Find a “conversational” pace that's comfortable for you.4. Leave your technology at home and just be present to how you feel.5. Try run-walk intervals to build up stamina.· Even though we live in a “compare and despair” social media culture, Michelle urges runners at whatever level not to get caught up in trying to keep up with anyone else.· Recommended Reading:o "The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable," by Hal Elrod.o "The EntreMD Method: A Proven Roadmap for Doctors Who Want to Live Life and Practice Medicine on Their Terms," by Nneka Unachukwu. About Michelle:In the midst of a lively career in pediatrics, Dr. Michelle Quirk discovered that running could change her life. She embraced the sport by becoming a certified run coach with the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), a local Girls on the Run coach, and a Disney World-loving marathoner. She founded Mindful Marathon to help make running easy and fun for busy professionals. For anyone thinking that running is too hard or that they can't be runners, Michelle is ready to help transform you into a runner. She develops customized training plans for every type of runner—new, old, somewhere in between—and fits those training plans into busy lives, helping her athletes find their edge and achieve their goals.

My path to becoming a musculoskeletal specialist started when I was a young runner. I developed a 33-degree curvature of the spine or scoliosis, which produced constant pain. Through the work I now do, I was able to end the pain, correct the problem, and continue my running career, later going on to run a 2:23 marathon. The objective of the Wharton Process is to take the mystery and confusion out of attaining optimal health, and provide simple solutions to complicated problems by balancing flexibility and strength.  A key component of our process is education – providing people with the tools necessary to harness and achieve optimal health.  Health, fitness, and athletics are a metaphor for the human spirit, a spirit that is indomitable and expansive.Do you remember your lowest moment? What urged you forward? How did you pick yourself up, dust yourself off—and return to your path? Did you long for a roadmap, guide, or mentor? How did you pivot and continue your journey? In this show we discover the deeper drives and strategies our guests employed to rise in their chosen endeavor. We learn the key decisions, and defining moments forging their lives on the anvil. We learn how they commit to the process through a life of embracing their craft. Many have achieved excellence, even mastery. They impart gems of wisdom. During these episodes we may be able to take away valuable concepts, adopt new mindsets, and ways of being-Impacting our  lives, and the lives of those around us. During this podcast, we ask our guest ten essential questions. We discover their genesis, rise, and fall. We learn how they pivoted back on course, resuming their journey. Confiding what they would redo or do differently. We learn crucial decisions forging them on the anvil. During these interviews, stories, and conversations we reveal their Intrinsic Drive™As a young athlete, a thirty-three-degree scoliosis of the spine left me in constant pain, unable to continue the sport I loved. Opting against spinal fusion and Herrington rod surgery, with no guarantee of pain relief---and a certain end to my athletic career. I restored my range of motion, gained structural strength, and muscular balance. During the two years of hard work, discipline and focus, spinal compression, neuromotor disconnect, and fascial adhesions began to let go. My scoliosis reduced to less than one degree, then zero. Now, free from chronic pain, I began to run, then compete again. I trained and worked with the world's best athletes. I ran two hours and twenty -three minutes for the 26.2-mile marathon in Florence, Rotterdam, and Austin.  Over more than three decades, I've assisted athletes to break world records, Olympians and World Championship Medalists, to university team and individual champions, and professional team world titles, co-authored four books to share this self-care process—empowering those suffering from difficult conditions and chronic pain. This show was born of a desire to explore and share individual and collective experiences of pursuit, dedication, and growth. Transforming discipline into habit, enjoying the process, and actualizing dreams.  Intrinsic Drive™ is produced by Ellen Strickler and Phil Wharton.  The Pandemic, Lay-offs, pay-cuts, foreclosures, and debt are all realities of the world we live in.  What we share with our child about our family's financial problems, and the way we share it, can have a profound impact on their ability to process and cope — and even on their financial future. If you or the other co-parent are facing a trying time financially, whether or not you've tried to hide it from your child, they most likely already know.  Children are incredibly perceptive and they can pick up on parents' stress, conversations, and changed spending habits  much more accurately than most will give them credit for.  Picking up on these cues without the explanation and assurance of a parent can lead to confusion and insecurity — emotions that can cause stress, anxiety, and physiological problems. How much you should share depends on your child's age and maturity level. Generally, it is recommended that sharing fewer details and emphasizing security with children 12 and under — the basic concept of frugality is all they can really process.  Most teens, however, will be financially literate and can handle more information.  If they can understand it, they can better cope with it, and they may be more receptive to discussing your family's money issues. Don't lie. You can choose how you phrase things and how much to share depending on your situation, but don't give false information about your money problems.Educate your children on finances. Trying times and slimmer budgets provide an opportunity for teaching your children about money, saving, frugality, and wants vs. needs. Berger said you can use your own financial missteps as a lesson, focusing on what you've learned and not being afraid to admit if you've made mistakes. "It's okay to be fallible," he said.Focus on the positive. Emphasize that the difficult changes now will be better for the long-term, that a move or change in activity allows for new opportunities elsewhere and that no matter what, you parents will always love you and be here for you.Show a united front. Have a conversation with the other co-parent and discuss it ahead of time, so you both can agree on what to say to the kids and how before confronting them. If you have an open conversation without the children you can hopefully discuss Don't use your child as your confidant. It's important to maintain the parent/child relationship as a healthy boundary. Confiding in a child like a peer or "over-sharing" will give them an added sense of stress. The child does not have the answers or the mindset to take responsibility for your family's finances — focus on their best interests in the situation. Do allow your child the space to express their anger – give them the space to open up and be sure to listen – pillow talkDo let your child talk freely to another trusted adult – grandmother, teacher, close family friend – if your child can talk through their feelings with someone that you both respect, it will help them come to terms with what has happened. It will help them come to terms with what has happened, yes they can talk to you but they may be afraid of hurting you and they may want to discuss you as well. With support and reassurance your child can come through this difficult place and come out on the other side as an empathic, caring and responsible person.Resources for Single Parents:www.asinglemother.orgwww.coabode.orgwww.singlemotherguide.com
