Fr. Mike introduces us to the prophet Joel and the unique timing of his ministry in the midst of tragedy. He also touches on the prophecy concerning Lucifer and St. Michael the Archangel, and how the two are directly contrasted to show the glory of God. Today's readings are Isaiah 14-15, Joel 1-2, and Proverbs 10:17-20. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. E.Z., Mark, and Oscar set out on a journey to retrace Ray's footsteps in evangelism, beginning in Tahiti. Though Tahiti is often viewed as an exotic getaway, the guys were reminded that it's a land in spiritual need. On their first day, they encountered a group still out from the night before, and E.Z. boldly shared the gospel. Though one man started the conversation with a flamboyant demeanor, a visible change came over him as he listened. The guys emphasized the biblical principle of giving the law to the proud and grace to the humble. They stressed that salvation belongs to the Lord; their role is to remain faithful. From Tahiti, the journey continued to Fiji. Mark recalled starting to evangelize, only to be told by security guards they couldn't evangelize there. The guys crossed the street and quickly found someone open to the message—Oscar shared the gospel with a man named Peeta who immediately began weeping and asked how to follow Jesus. Oscar encouraged him to start by sharing with his nearby family. Peeta, living near a local chief's home, brought the guys there, leading to a touching moment where the chief's wife teared up hearing the gospel. E.Z. was deeply moved by the humility and openness they encountered. Next, the team traveled to Australia, where they balanced fun—like visiting a zoo—with the challenges of open-air preaching. Mark used a heckler as an illustration, while Oscar encountered initial rejection from two women who eventually agreed to talk when he appealed to their values. By leveraging cultural touchpoints, they found ways to engage in meaningful gospel conversations. In New Zealand, the guys visited where Ray was saved and began evangelizing. For Mark, walking through Ray's past was especially moving. They preached, connected with locals, and visited Ray's childhood home. The trip concluded in Hawaii, where even more opportunities to share the gospel arose.During a final Q&A, the guys addressed topics like how The Way of the Master began, the importance of redeeming downtime, and practical evangelism tips. Ray encouraged solo open-air preaching if done safely, and the team emphasized using time wisely. They affirmed that women can and should share the gospel, citing biblical examples like the woman at the well and Mary Magdalene. For those sharing with atheist family members, they advised appealing to conscience and loving boldly, noting that prayer is vital in evangelism. They concluded by addressing feelings of unworthiness, reminding listeners that grace covers all, and it's not about us—it's about Christ. Send us a textThanks for listening! Matthew presents Jesus Christ as the Jesus as the Mashiach Nagid, the Messiah the King, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. It was written by a Jew, to Jews, about a Jew. This book of the Bible uses more Old Testament quotes than any other. The Gospel of Matthew emphasizes the saying of Jesus, including ten parables not found in any other Gospel. After first establishing the royal genealogy, he then goes on to focus on the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Matthew uses the term "fulfilled" 82 times! Many scholars now believe that the Gospel was written before Paul's first imprisonment of 57-60 A.D., and that virtually all of the New Testament books were written before Jerusalem's destruction. This study contains 24 hours of verse by verse teachings. Copyright © 11-01-2006 Recorded: 2006
Everyone in Mark's trial narrative bears false witness about who Jesus is—the religious leaders, the crowds, and even Peter who denies knowing him three times. But Jesus himself bears true witness, revealing that he is the merciful God who dies for those who betray him. In this podcast episode, David explores how this passage completes the story Scripture has been telling since Eden about God's relentless pursuit of his unfaithful people.

From "Last Retreat Day 14" found in The Complete Works vol 1: 36. “It seems to me that all is loss since I have known the excelling knowledge of my Lord, Jesus Christ. For love of Him I have forfeited everything; I have accounted all else rubbish that I may gain Christ, so as to be found in Him, not with my own justice but with the justice that comes from God through faith. What I want is to know Him, to share in His sufferings, to become like Him in His death. I pursue my course, striving to attain to what Christ has destined me for by taking hold of me; my whole concern is to forget what is behind and to strain forward constantly to what is ahead; I run straight to the goal . . . , to the prize of the heavenly vocation to which God has called me in Christ Jesus.” 212 The Apostle has often revealed the greatness of this vocation: “God,” he says, “has chosen us in Him before the creation of the world that we might be holy and immaculate in His presence in love. . . . We have been predestined by the decree of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, so that we may be the praise of His glory.” 213 The post BTP-LR19 – Day 14 – Part 1 – The Last Retreat by St. Elizabeth of the Trinity – Beginning to Pray with Dr. Anthony Lilles – Discerning Hearts Podcast appeared first on Discerning Hearts Catholic Podcasts.
What's up, Theology Nerds! So I had my buddy Matt Novenson on to talk about what's happening on the cutting edge of New Testament research these days, and let me tell you, it's way broader than you might think. We covered five major areas where scholars are doing really fascinating work: first, bringing Jewish studies into conversation with the New Testament (like Matthew Thiessen's work on how Jesus actually dissolves ritual impurity rather than abolishing purity systems); second, looking at the broader ancient Mediterranean world beyond just "Jewish vs. Greco-Roman" contexts (Heidi Wendt's brilliant stuff on Paul as a "freelance religious expert" competing for influence); third, studying how the Bible has been interpreted not just in academic commentaries but in art, music, and everyday life (Lisa Marie Bowens' archival work on African American readings of Paul is mind-blowing); fourth, examining how biblical themes have unconsciously shaped modern cultural discourses like immigration policy (Yii-Jan Lin's work on how Revelation's New Jerusalem imagery shows up in American immigration law is wild); and finally, reconnecting New Testament studies with theology through careful hermeneutics (David Lincicum does this really well, tracing how early Christians read Paul reading Jewish scripture). The whole conversation was both entertaining for folks just interested in where the field is heading and super practical for anyone thinking about graduate school - Matt even gave great advice about just cold-emailing scholars because, surprise, most of them are normal people who actually like talking about ideas! Dr. Matthew Novenson is a distinguished New Testament scholar now teaching at Princeton Theological Seminary. His scholarship focuses on Paul's letters, early Judaism, and early Christianity. This week, we are happy to announce a new project from the personal study of Dr. John Snyder. This study originated from a desperation within John's own heart. It deals with the life of a person whom God trusts with leadership in his kingdom. Titled Studies for Christ's Under-Shepherds, this 11-week study is a series of talks by Dr. Snyder to a group of ministers local to New Albany, Mississippi. This group has met together for several years to read, study, and pray together. John asked the men if he could take several weeks to focus on this topic, and they were eager to be a part. As of Friday, July 18, 2025, this study will be available to everyone for free. While it was taught with the pastor in mind, its application reaches much further. We believe that deacons, Sunday school teachers, parents, and anyone with the opportunity to disciple a young believer will benefit from this study. At the end of this podcast, we have attached the first several moments of session one to give you a sense of what the full study will be like. One notable difference between this study and others is its interactive nature. After each teaching session, the men who were attending had an opportunity to ask John questions. For a limited time, we want you to have a similar chance. While you are going through the study, you will be given opportunities to submit your questions to John. John may not be able to answer every question, but we will choose some we believe to be of the widest benefit and answer them in a future podcast episode. In our culture, revenge is pervasive. In fact, John unpacks research showing a hidden framework for understanding human revenge, rage, and violence. In practice, revenge actually operates like an addiction in our brains. The cycle begins with grievance. And every little grievance - from a driver who maybe cuts us off, to a coworker who forgets our name - can trigger imagined injustice. We indulge our outrage and a desire for revenge. But the way of Jesus - the fruit of the spirit, love - interrupts that loop. Love doesn't deny pain or injustice; it just refuses to use power to harm. It chooses to show up instead as gentleness and grace.Become New is here to help you grow spiritually one day at a time.
Should Christians look for Jesus in every verse of the Old Testament—or are we missing the point when we do? In this wide-ranging and practical conversation, Dr. Christopher J. H. Wright, Langham Partnership's Global Ambassador and one of the world's leading Old Testament scholars, joins Dru Johnson to explore the difference between Christocentric and Christotelic readings of Scripture. Wright reflects on common instincts Christians have—either skipping the Old Testament or trying to make every text about Jesus—and explains what we lose when we fail to respect the voice and context of the original authors. Wright argues for a more faithful reading that respects the historical drama of God's covenantal journey with Israel, leading to but not eclipsed by Christ. He explains how Luke 24 affirms that the Scriptures point to Jesus, but that doesn't mean every verse must be “about” him. Instead, Scripture forms a unified story with Jesus as its destination, not its hiding place. The conversation ends with a powerful case for why the global church, especially in the majority world, has crucial theological insights to offer—and why Western Christians should be ready to learn. The voice of our God is described as powerful, mighty, and thunderously loud. It is compared to the roar of a lion, the clap of thunder, and the sound of a waterfall. In short, the voice of the Lord produces a tremble within our lives. In this study, Nathan explores the different descriptions of God's voice and what our proper response should be toward His voice should be as believers.------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, where together we journey through Scripture and discover the treasures God has for us each day. In today's episode, Host Hunter invites us into readings from Isaiah chapters 25 through 28 and Hebrews chapter 13, encouraging us to reflect on where we truly find lasting treasure. We'll hear about God's promises of hope in the midst of ruins, His faithfulness to the oppressed, and the remarkable gift of Jesus—who, as Hunter powerfully reminds us, was found “out in the trash heap,” discarded but offering the greatest treasure the world has ever known. Join us as we rest in God's Word, pray together, and remember the deep truth that we are not alone—united as brothers and sisters, loved beyond measure, and called to share that love with the world. Let's encounter perfect peace, real strength, and God's unending grace, together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: One man's trash is another man's treasure. I used to work as a garbage man for the city of Rockledge, Florida, and I can tell you that that's true. Some of the stuff that people threw away, I was sure to collect. It was still good. There was still a lot of life there. There was a treasure. And never has that been more true than in today's reading. We're told not to seek treasure in something new. The treasure we need is not found out there. Verse 9 says so. Do not be attracted by strange new ideas. Your strength comes from God's grace, not from rules about food which don't help those who follow them. Nor is our treasure to be found in the old. The old rules, the old sacrificial system. The treasures we are looking for can't be found there either. The treasure we are looking for, that we need, that the world is desperate for. The greatest treasure ever given is to be found in the most unlikely places. It's going to be found in the trash heap. In the old system, the sacrifice was made on an altar in the tabernacle, in the most important place in the world. There, the priest would offer a perfect gift, shedding the blood of an animal on the holy place as a sacrifice for sins. Then the trash, the discarded and unused parts would be taken to the trash heap outside the camp where it would be burned up. But outside, in that burning trash heap was something no one saw. It happened to be the most precious gift of all. It was discarded and thrown out like waste. And there's good reason why this sacrifice is being made exactly where it is, in that trash heap. Because the man offering this sacrifice lived his life among the discarded, among the disqualified, among the refuse and the refugees. It was there among them that he came to live and give his life. It was for them that he came to die in order that through his death, he might win for the world the greatest treasure the world has ever known. He has come to offer himself, his life, his presence to all, even the discarded and rejected. Out in the trash heap was a treasure. Verse 12 says: So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. He suffered and died out in the trash heap to make his people holy by means of his blood. So let us go out to him, outside the camp, there in the landfill, and bear the disgrace he bore. For this world is not our permanent home. We are looking forward to a home yet to come. Let's continue to offer him praise because he offered us broken ones the greatest treasure ever found. One man's trash is another man's treasure. So let's hold tightly to the treasure of him and experience the transformation that is available to all out there in the trash heap. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Almighty and ever loving God, you have brought us to the light of a new morning. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit that we may walk this day in peace. Guard our steps from temptation. Shield us from the weight of fear and shame, and lead us deeper into the joy of your presence through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. O Christ, light of the nations, shine in every place where shadows dwell. Call the scattered home. Heal the wounds of division and gather all people into the communion of your grace. May the knowledge of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. Amen. And now, Lord, make my hands ready for mercy. Make my eyes quick to see the hurting, my ears open to the cry of the lonely, and my feet swift to bring good news. Let me seek to bless, not to be noticed, to serve, not to be praised, to forgive, not to hold back. For in your way is life, in your mercy is healing, and in your love is the peace this world cannot give. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation. In this episode of Holy Disruption, host Heather Schott is joined by Noleen Sedra, co-lead pastor of Echo Church in Sydney, Australia, to discuss the unbiblical and spiritual implications of modern feminism. They explore the historical roots dating back to Genesis, first wave feminism, and its evolution through the waves, highlighting the demonic and anti-Christ spirit driving the movement. The discussion delves into the spirit of Jezebel, historical examples from the Bible, and the importance of men and women embracing their God-given identity. The episode also provides encouragement for women experiencing oppression and emphasizes the need for the church to raise a generation of women rooted in biblical truth.
In this sermon, Pastor Clay teaches what it means to worship in truth—not through emotion or performance, but by aligning with the person of Jesus. Truth isn't just knowledge—it's Him. Real worship begins with revelation and leads to surrender. In her message titled “Worshipers Buy Oil,” Pastor Dehavilland Ford unpacks the parable of the ten virgins from Matthew 25, calling it a blueprint for the end times and a clear warning to believers to be spiritually prepared. She explains that all ten virgins were pure and had lamps—symbolizing ministry and light—but only five carried extra oil, representing daily intimacy with Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The core issue was not morality or external appearance but the presence—or absence—of cultivated oil: personal history with God, sustained through worship, the Word, prayer, and obedience. Pastor Dehavilland emphasizes that oil cannot be borrowed, imparted, or outsourced—each believer must buy their own in intimacy with the Lord.
“They gathered manna every morning.” — Exodus 16:21 Labour to maintain a sense of thine entire dependence upon the Lord's good will and pleasure for the continuance of thy richest enjoyments. Never try to live on the old manna, nor seek to find help in Egypt. All must come from Jesus, or thou art undone […]
Romans 10: 1-21: Israel Needs the gospel! They sure do! We are the End Times generation to fulfill that prophecy too! Because they DO receive the gospel right now from several very effective sources right now, one being an organization I send tithes to, which is called "One for Israel" that both helps Jews in need a well as shares the gospel with them! OneforIsrael.org. But wait, this is the passage that also says, "that "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes." This passage has been misunderstood by SO many Christians!! Today's episode and tomorrow's episode will break this whole thing down so it is not conflicting with what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount. If you are blessed by today's Bible study, please support my channel by liking, subscribing, commenting, and sharing with your friends and family! I am not a Pastor, and agree with God's word that women are not supposed to be Pastors. However, all people are called to share the gospel. It is perfectly acceptable and Biblical for women to lead Bibles studies outside the church as an ancillary addition to the church, and especially if it is a viable avenue for study of the Word on a daily basis, like I'm doing on this show, and paving the way for all of us to be closer to the Lord and become more knowledgeable of the Bible.
