Author Don Tapscott visits Google to discuss his book "Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything". In just the last few years, traditional collaboration in a meeting room, a conference call, even a convention center has been superseded by online collaborations on an astronomical scale. Today, apps, jetliners, operating systems, mutual funds, and many other products are being created by teams numbering in the thousands or even millions. While some leaders fear the growth of these massive online communities, author Don Tapscott's book "Wikinomics" proves this fear is folly. Smart firms can harness collective capability and genius to spur innovation, growth, and success. A guide to one of the most profound changes of our time, "Wikinomics" challenges our most deeply-rooted assumptions about business and will prove indispensable to anyone who wants to understand competitiveness in the twenty-first century. Based on a $9 million research project led by Tapscott, "Wikinomics" shows how masses of people can participate in the economy like never before. They are creating TV news stories, sequencing the human genome, remixing their favorite music, designing software, finding cures for diseases, editing school texts, inventing new cosmetics, or even building motorcycles. An important look into the future, "Wikinomics" will be your road map for doing business in the twenty-first century. Originally published in February of 2007. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast - Episode #940. I've had his brother (Don Tapscott) and nephew (Alex Tapscott) on the show countless times. We might as well extend the invitation to Bob Tapscott. Bob has a knack for diving into the deep end of tech and coming up with pearls of wisdom. With a background as a CIO, speaker, and consultant, Bob's journey spans nuclear power maintenance, Wall Street derivatives, and flying commercial aircrafts by computer. He's the go-to guy for developing and implementing disruptive strategies that actually work, focusing on corporate performance and customer satisfaction (meaning: He's the person that is building the tech we all talk about). Bob delves into what he calls the second era of computing - where computers don't just follow orders, they learn, ask questions and show us what we need. It's a “game-changer” (and I hate that word!), driven by the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Bob breaks it down: We're seeing an growth in computing power that's reshaping our world. AI isn't just about making things faster - it's about making things smarter. The company with the most data will have the smartest systems, and that's a big deal. But with great power comes great responsibility (thanks, Uncle Ben!). We talk about the potential for job displacement and the societal challenges that come with these advancements. It's not just about the tech... it's about the frameworks we need to guide its implementation responsibly. Our conversation touches on the exciting and somewhat daunting possibilities of AI, like the development of generative AI tools and the role of startups in this evolving landscape. Bob is particularly keen on the ethical implications - how do we ensure these technologies benefit society as a whole? And let's not forget the international angle. Tech doesn't respect borders, so collaboration is key. Bob's new book, Trivergence - How Ai, Blockchain, And The Internet Of Things Are Ushering In A New Digital Age, is all about navigating this brave new world. He explores the synergies between AI, blockchain, and IoT, showing how these technologies can work together to transform business and society. It's not a tech manual... it's a guide for making smart decisions in a world full of uncertainties. Bob talks about the power of Infinite Data - where AI, powered by vast datasets, can generate insights and value without human intervention. It's fascinating and a must-read for anyone looking to stay ahead of the curve. Bob unpacks these concepts with a mix of technical insight and practical wisdom. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or a business leader, there's something here for you. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 1:04:20. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Trivergence - How Ai, Blockchain, And The Internet Of Things Are Ushering In A New Digital Age. Follow Bob on LinkedIn. Follow Bob on X. This week's music: David Usher 'St. Lawrence River'. Takeaways The second era of computing is characterized by computers being able to ask and learn, rather than just being programmed. The exponential growth in computing power, driven by blockchain and AI, is transforming society. Data is crucial for AI development, and the company with the most data will likely have the most intelligent system. The implementation of AI and other technologies could lead to job displacement and societal challenges. Thoughtful frameworks and discussions are needed to guide the responsible and beneficial use of these technologies. The development of AI tools like chat GPT is impressive and has the potential to outperform human capabilities in certain tasks. The growth of data is exponential, and it presents both opportunities and challenges in the field of AI. The consolidation of AI power among big tech companies is likely, but startups can still find success by focusing on specific domains. The ethical implications of AI, including autonomous killing machines, raise concerns and the need for careful regulation and oversight. The impact of AI is not limited by geographic borders, and international collaboration is crucial for addressing its challenges and maximizing its benefits. What is Blockchain? What is it for? How does it work? What kind of impact can it have on our societies? To answer these questions, Pedro Pinto interviews Don Tapscott in this episode of “It's Not That Simple”, a podcast by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation. One of the world's leading authorities on the impact of technology on business and society, Tapscott is currently Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of the Blockchain Research Institute. He is also an Adjunct Professor at INSEAD, and Chancellor Emeritus of Trent University in Ontario where he served as Chancellor 2013-2019. Tapscott is a member of the Order of Canada, and has authored 16 books, including the global best seller Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrencies is Changing the World, co-authored with his son Alex. He has coined many concepts that are part of the business lexicon today and is sought by corporate and government leaders globally. In this episode, Tapscott describes what he calls the “second era of the digital age”, and the Blockchain's role in it. He also discusses the potential of a Web 3.0, in which we can own and monetize our own data. Tapscott looks at the current stage of evolution of artificial intelligence as a form of generative AI, and the impact of the internet and modern technology on our societies. He also explains the importance of privacy in the digital realm, and examines the potential “dark side” of all these new technologies. Finally, Tapscott advocates for the need for a “social contract” for the digital age, in a conversation well worth listening to. It's the annual event that no major businessman or policy-maker dares to miss. Among the famous attendees of the most recent World Economic Forum in Davos were the CEO's of Amazon, BlackRock, Pfizer, JPMorgan Chase, the head of the FBI, publisher of The New York Times, and heads of states from all corners of the earth. This exclusive get together of the world's elite has a noble mission statement: to improve the state of the world through public-private participation. Critics of the forum, however, argue that the annual event has become a rich person's playground where out of touch corporate elites meet in private to make important decisions about global policy without scrutiny or consultation. While chief executives meet under the noble pretense of solving poverty and climate change, most attendees use the forum to further their business interests and make themselves richer. Davos's supporters argue that the annual forum is more important now than ever before. From climate change, to food and energy inflation, to geopolitical instability, the global crises we face require collective action through cooperation and interdependence. Relationships and collaborations forged in Davos have and continue to bring about real world solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges. Davos might be elite, its supporters concede, but its also effective in working towards global prosperity and peace. PICKING UP THE PACE|Jay Rogers, founder and CEO of haddy- a 3D -printed furniture company, joins host Gregg Garrett to discuss the lessons he learned by 3D printing autonomous vehicles and how the team is now looking to disrupt the complete supply chain of a less regulated industry with a similar product set. Of course, Jay speaks about his Top 3: God, who is part of his life everyday, his boys who help him to learn and reverse mentor him, and 3-star General Mike Dana who specializes in servant leadership. And you have to hear what he has to say about reading by candlelight. ABOUT JAY ROGERS John “Jay” Rogers is CEO and Co-Founder of haddy inc. – a pioneering digital manufacturing company serving the furniture industry and built on revolutionary technology and IP. Haddy is changing the way furniture is designed, built, delivered, and recycled. It is the world's first micro-manufacturer of furniture produced through a proprietary method of direct digital manufacturing (“DDM”). Through DDM, haddy enables more rapid technology and material adoption and a superior resilient supply chain. Jay grew up a lover of woodworking, machines, and a student of industry; his grandfather owned the legendary Indian Motorcycle Company, founded concrete and steel giant Texas Industries, and was the first Cummins Engine Distributor in the United States. Jay's grandfather is also credited with saving the Public Broadcasting System during the Nixon Administration and founding the Children's Television Workshop, which is best known for Sesame Street. In combining his family legacy of manufacturing, his military leadership, entrepreneurship, and education, Jay has hand selected a team of co-founders and set forth on a most ambitious plan: Creating, heroic, beautiful, durable furniture for retailers, to their design, built locally in the most resilient and sustainable manner. He graduated from Princeton University and went to a startup in China and then to Ewing & Partners where he became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). After that, he went on to the US Marine Corps where he served for 9 years in the infantry in the western Pacific and Iraq, to Harvard Business School and to become a consultant for McKinsey & Co. Most recently, he founded and led Local Motors, a next generation vehicle OEM. It was there that Jay discovered the basic technology of DDM, and in 2021 he handed over the reins of Local Motors to a new investor group and left to start haddy full-time. The story of how communities of customers and suppliers can effectively participate in the innovation and creation of leading technology products is a journey Jay shares widely. He has spoken at BIF, PopTech, TedX, Picnic in Amsterdam, Do Conference in Wales, St Gallen Symposium, the White House conference on making, CES, CeBIT, IMTS, Singularity University, and many more conclaves. Additionally, the story of American innovation, co-creation and digital manufacturing has been shared on Discovery, PBS, Fox, CNBC, and Speed Channel. You can find Jay's impact first in long form narrative as part of many books, starting with MacroWikinomics written by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams and more recently in America's Moment: Creating Opportunity in the Connected Age by Rework America and Zoe Baird. His work has also been featured in Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Wired, Top Gear, AutoWeek, Inc., Details, Forbes, and others. In 2020, he was awarded the honor of leading Local Motors to one of the top 10 global innovative transportation companies by Popular Science. Jay is a director of the RBR Foundation, which gives annually to the cause of childhood education and development. He is the father of 4 boys who are growing up in a connected age and whom, he hopes, will take advantage of the incredible opportunity that the internet has given the world. Visit Jay, haddy and the future of American Manufacturing Innovation in Tampa, FL where the first haddy microfactory is being built, and where he calls headquarters and home. Will Corcoran spent 20 years as an architect before becoming more than a little disillusioned and looking for a different path. Bitcoin wasn't the likely successor, but a lecture by Muneeb, the co-founder of Stacks, piqued his curiosity enough to reorient toward something he didn't fully understand yet but knew had powerful potential to solve challenges he saw around him, particularly with how money is created, spent, and transferred. Now, he's the Grants Program Manager at the Stacks Foundation, and actively contributing to building the path forward. I sat down with Will to talk about how he moved from architecture to Stacks, why fixing money with Bitcoin excites him so much, why he feels a bigger focus on design is so desperately needed in the web3 space, and how he relies on practices like yoga and swimming to keep a clear head in the fast moving space of web3. - Meet Our Guest Will manages the grants program at the Stacks Foundation. It's the last destination of Season 2 before a very special 'Finale' episode, and where better to go than the country that many credit for being the birthplace of the Blockchain movement: Canada... Yes, Canada... Canada has had a surprisingly significant influence from the original Bitcoin white paper, to the founding of Ethereum, Crypto Kitties, the Blockchain Research Institute and much more... While Canadians are famously modest about their achievements, I'm going to do my civic duty and shine a light on the impressive Blockchain projects, the people and associations behind the rise of Blockchain in Canada. This might just be the most enlightening show we've ever produced, and we've got a VERY special guest speaker for this episode's Bonus Round! We include speakers from leading Blockchain organisations like Stellar, Shyft, Linux Foundation, Hut 8 Mining, Shopify, Guild One, Veritree, Deloitte, MHH Technology Group, Blockchain Supply Chain Association and Global University Systems; as well as leading academic institutions like ICTC, George Brown College, and the University of British Columbia... Oh, and a rather significant guest speaker... A veteran of 7 MILLION Ted Talk views, author of the most-read book on Blockchain, and founder of the Blockchain Research Institute: it's the legendary Don Tapscott! Do not miss the chance to hear the great man's take on the good and the bad of Blockchain in Canada, and what more is needed to scale Blockchain technology in Canada and around the world. More than 4 years ago, Don Tapscott gave a groundbreaking talk on how blockchain is changing money and business. He believes blockchain is the key in transitioning from the internet of information into a new era — the internet of value. The lessons he shared still ring true today with one of the best analogies suggesting that Bitcoin is the first application of the internet of value as email was the first app in the internet of information. And along this train of thought, Ethereum is akin to what the early web was many years ago, both with incredible future potential. In this episode Don Tapscott explores: Crypto bubble vs Dotcom bubble Cracking the double spend problem The Ethereum flippening Signing a book for Mark Zuckerburg Privacy as the foundation of freedom Blockchain's radical changes The internet of value Criminals using new technology Bill Maher's stupid takes Digital conglomerates The technological genie --- This episode is brought to you by Voyager, your new favorite crypto broker. The Blockchain Research Institute's new Special Report "New Directions for Government in the Second Era of the Digital Age" calls for the Biden-Harris Administration to uproot generations of legacy federal IT to leverage blockchain, IoT, and AI. We hear from co-author Don Tapscott why federal adoption of Self Sovereign (Decentralized) Digital Identity is as important as fighting climate change.
Don Tapscott is the co-author with Kirsten Sandberg and Anthony Williams of the 2021 paper ‘New Direction for Government in the Second Era of the Digital Age' on strategy, policy, and action for the Biden/Harris Administration. Produced in collaboration with the Washington DC based Chamber of Digital Commerce, and with a foreword by Tony Scott, Don considers the report a landmark of his decades-long career as a digital technology researcher, advocate, and thought leader. Don needs no introduction to the Blockchain community but just in case let me point people to his 2016 TED Talk in which he explained how Blockchain is changing money and business. This is one of these most viewed TED talks, certainly in Blockchain, with 5 million views so far and more than 5000 views per day, up by multiple of five since the price of Bitcoin caught the public's attention again. Listen in today to hear Don's thoughts on how cryptocurrencies and government can collide with impact. In today's episode, I speak to Simon England, Director at Garwood Solutions, Former senior Managing Director at Accenture and Independent Director of HCL Technologies, the 150,000 person global technology and services firm. If you've been listening to the show for a while, you may remember that Simon's colleague Rob Garner featured back in Episode 51 at the beginning of the year. I always like to ask my guests who they would recommend for the show and Rob pointed me to Simon. Highlighting his extensive career leading various business units for Accenture as something he thought could be of interest to my listeners, and he wasn't wrong. Over the past 36 years, Simon has built up a wealth of experience in leading, transforming, and growing organisations across both the public and private sector. Before joining the team at Garwood Solutions, Simon spent 27 years with Accenture, leading various business units and helping to turn around others. Between leaving Accenture and joining Garwood Simon spent a year leading the stabilisation and recovery of Capita's largest, and very public, transformational outsourcing contract with Primary Care Support England, overseeing a 900 strong team to turn the programme around. Given the current climate and Simon's phenomenal track record of both growing and turning around businesses, I was super excited for this conversation and my gosh did it deliver. In today's interview, we dive into a whole range of topics, including: • Simon's uncommon path into consulting, his entrepreneurial streak and how starting out on his own helped him build the consulting career he's had • His lessons learned from his 27 years at Accenture and what you can take from them to help you on your own journey • And Simon's advice for consulting firms - big and small - on what you should be doing now to help you stabilise your business and succeed beyond Covid-19 While we'd recently started working with the Garwood team just prior to this interview, it was great to get the chance to speak to Simon outside of that, hear his insights on building such a successful career and have the chance to share them with you to in this interview. With all the uncertainty at the moment, I'm sure that you'll get a lot of confidence and clarity from what Simon has to say. Whether you're currently focusing on the short term health of your business or your long term career path, there's tons in here for you to learn from and apply in your own life. You can find out more about Simon on LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/simon-england-88763376/ You can find out more about Garwood Solutions at - https://garwoodsolutions.com/ Specific things we discuss in the show: • The Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tao-Te-Ching-Hackett-Classics-ebook/dp/B005CW9YB2/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= • Getting The Balance Right: Leading and Managing Well by Peter Shaw - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Getting-Balance-Right-Leading-Managing-ebook/dp/B00AQD8KZI/ • Grown Up Digital: How the Net Generation is Changing Your World by Don Tapscott - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grown-Up-Digital-Generation-Changing-ebook/dp/B001FA0PMC/ • The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise of the East India Company by William Dalrymple - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anarchy-Relentless-Rise-India-Company-ebook/dp/B07VPR8LS1/

The depth of his knowledge into the technology that we are banking on for the future is unsurpassed. And on today's show we get to probe his brain to discover that which we do not know. Welcome to episode #512 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Mirum Podcast. The technology behind Bitcoin is something called Blockchain. Many think of it as a complex new way that technology works and connects information and value to consumers. Legendary digital thinker, Don Tapscott, believes it's going to change our world - much in the same way that he predicted (back in 1994) that we would have a digital economy. For his latest book, Blockchain Revolution, he teamed up with his son, Alex Tapscott. Don wrote books like Wikinomics, Grown Up Digital, and many more that have become seminal books of our digital culture, and he is an advisor to some of the largest corporations and governments in the world. Alex is the founder of Northwest Passage Ventures. For seven years Alex worked to help entrepreneurs raise hundreds of millions of dollars in capital. He is a passionate advocate for the disruptive potential of new technology. Blockchain Revolution has already been called, "an iconic book for these times," and brings us back to the excitement and opportunities that many felt, when the first web browser was introduced. Is the blockchain revolution the future of creating value or will it fall into the wrong hands? Enjoy the conversation... Welcome to episode #445 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Don Tapscott could well be an international treasure when it comes to the Internet and the digital economy. He recently published a majorly updated version of his seminal book, The Digital Economy. It's hard to believe that this book is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. So much has changed. It's fascinating to go through the updated version, because you can read what Don got (so) right... and (so) wrong (though it's not as much as you might think). His newly written thoughts - after every chapter - also points us further into the future. Don has been writing, speaking and consulting about technology being a business and global game-changer for over thirty years. He has authored (and co-authored) fifteen bestselling books, and is often the person who gets the calls from the CEOs of the biggest companies in the world (including many in Silicon Valley) to talk about where things are (probably) headed. He's been on the podcast before, but it's always an honor when he's willing to come back. Enjoy the conversation... (Apologies for the sound quality on this episode. This was a Skype issue. It's an important episode, so it's worth listening through the gurggles ;) Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast - Episode #445 - Host: Mitch Joel. Running time: 45:38. Welcome to episode #225 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Every once in a while, you get an opportunity to have a conversation with someone who has, literally, changed the game. This Podcast has had more than a few of those, and here's another big one. Without question, Don Tapscott has seen (and been talking about) the changes that are happening right now. He was writing about technology being a business and global game-changer for over thirty years. His latest book, Macrowikinomics (which he co-wrote with Anthony D. Williams), is already a best-seller (and for good reason). HIs last two books, Grown Up Digital and Wikinomics, are also must-have's. In this episode, we look at everything from the modern printing press to the future of business and education. He even lets us know what he thinks about Google and Apple today. Welcome to episode #94 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. The bottom line is that I am still trying to recover from everything that went down in the past two weeks. From sharing the stage with Anthony Robbins at the Power Within in Halifax, to spending four days at the TED Conference in Monterey, California, and then in NYC sharing the stage with people like Seth Godin, Don Tapscott and Sir Ken Robinson. There were tons of development in the Web world, so I called on Bryan Eisenberg to join me via Skype (apologies for the not-so-great connection) to help us all understand how Web analytics, research and more is forging ahead.
