On this week's Stansberry Investor Hour, Dan and Corey welcome author Alex Epstein to the show. Alex has written several books advocating for the use of fossil fuels, including his most recent work, Fossil Future. The self-described "energy-freedom advocate" joins the podcast to challenge the popular climate-change narrative and provide more context for the crucial role fossil fuels play in society. Alex kicks things off by weighing in on the debate around climate change and the effects of fossil fuels. He argues that the benefits of using fossil fuels far outweigh the negatives and that, in many cases, energy can be used to overcome any adverse effects. Alex also breaks down the myth of unsustainability, the anti-human bias implicit in environmentalism, and the incorrect belief that more folks die of climate-related catastrophes today than in the past. (2:38) Next, Alex discusses his impact with politicians and lawmakers. He explains that 200 major political offices use his content to direct policy and become more informed on energy topics. Alex then shares his opinion on climate change, pointing out that we're currently in a climate renaissance and that the Earth has never been more livable for human beings. He brings up geoengineering as a way to cool the climate, asserts that the negative environmental impacts are severely overblown, and emphasizes the crucial role energy plays in the economy. (21:30) Finally, Alex talks about climate-change rhetoric dominating in elections, the harm that tech companies have done by blatantly lying about being 100% renewable, and why humans should take pride in the fact that we're progressing as a species and learning to use the Earth in new ways. He puts the anti-impact perspective into both a philosophical and historical context, noting that primitive religions believed "sinning" against nature had dire consequences. (34:19)

Was also bedeutet Fortschritt im Rahmen eines Lebens? Alex Epstein joins us again to discuss his excellent new book, Fossil Future, which makes a powerful case for why fossil fuels are essential for human flourishing, and why restricting them is the real crisis facing humanity. Alex explains how overhyped the supposed ‘alternatives' to fossil fuels are, and how fossil fuels remain completely essential for our modern standards of living, and why their use is constantly growing. Why do fossil fuels represent the only realistic alternative to poverty and early death for everyone on earth? Why do carbonhysterics only focus on the supposed negative impacts of fossil fuels, but never their benefits? Why is it so hard to have an honest debate with carbonhysterics? We also discuss how the use of fossil fuels was instrumental in ending slavery and liberating women, and whether fiat inflation is the driver of the propaganda to vilify fossil fuels. We conclude with a discussion of whether fossil fuels really are from fossils, or if they are naturally occurring in earth.Resources (All links available on saifedean.com/podcast/139-fossil-future-with-alex-epstein)Alex's book Fossil Future Get a free copy of Alex's book from fossilfuture.comSubscribe to Alex's Substack “Energy Talking Points”A Question of Power: Electricity and the Wealth of Nations by Robert BryceThree billion people use less electricity than the average American fridge.Alex's podcast interview with Professor Mukul Sharma on fracking18 spectacularly wrong climate predictions from the 1970s, including several made by Paul Ehrlich.Alex's Congressional Testimony, May 19, 2021Alex eviscerates COP26 on GB NewsSaifedean's first book, The Bitcoin StandardSaifedean's second book, The Fiat StandardAlex's previous appearances on The Bitcoin Standard podcast:TBS16: Wholesome HydrocarbonsTBS90: Climate HysteriaEnjoyed this episode? IMPACT SHOW ✓ Claim Podcast Notes Key Takeaways Humanity doesn't look at the benefits of fossil fuel consumption, it prefers to catastrophize the side effects of fossil fuel consumption The goal should be to advance human flourishing, not eliminate human impact “Energy is crucial. Fossil fuels are the only way of providing energy to billions of people for the foreseeable future, and billions more people need vastly more energy.” – Alex Epstein Following the directional arrows of progress, the energy of the 21st century was supposed to be nuclear power, which is, even more, energy intense, and less impactful on the environment than any other form of energy available to humans Environmentalists are reluctant to support abundant, clean, and cheap sources of energy because they're afraid of how humans will use the energy to change the world The core aversion to dense forms of energy from environmentalists is not that the process of producing it is dirty, but that the use of energy impacts the world“Whenever you hear ESG, you should just think CCP.” – Peter Thiel Environmentalists' philosophical bias reveals itself when they refuse to acknowledge the objective positives that result from fossil fuel usage  Political correctness, group-think, and the pressures to create consensus are the biggest political problems in our society today, according to Peter Thiel Science with a capital “S” is not science; the science that is referenced in the signs that say, “This house believes in Science”, is most certainly not science Science at its best is designed to fight a two-front war against excessive dogmatism and excessive skepticism People are no longer allowed to have heterodox beliefs that counter the scientific consensus Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.org(for EPISODES 39 - 41, visit the IMA YouTube channel)Author of Fossil Future, Alex Epstein, shares his expertise and philosophical perspective on climate, energy and fossil fuels. Newt Gingrich. Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas--Not Less by Alex Epstein  Newt's World Alex Epstein on “Fossil Future”  Jun 03 2022   The debate about climate change many times fails to mention the reasons we use fossil fuels in the first place. Policies like the “Green New Deal” really remind us that the wealthier countries can adopt green policies as a fashionable trend. But in reality, with the growth in global population, particularly in China and India, it's going to require us to think of new ways to approach our energy needs. Newt's guest is Alex Epstein. His new book, “Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas – Not Less” is out now. About the book- Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas--Not Less by Alex Epstein  May 24, 2022 The New York Times bestselling author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels draws on the latest data and new insights to challenge everything you thought you knew about the future of energy For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world's poorest people.  And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today's “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right:   Fact: Fossil fuels are still the dominant source of energy around the world, and growing fast—while much-hyped renewables are causing skyrocketing electricity prices and increased blackouts. Fact: Fossil-fueled development has brought global poverty to an all-time low. Fact: While fossil fuels have contributed to the 1 degree of warming in the last 170 years, climate-related deaths are at all-time lows thanks to fossil-fueled development.  What does the future hold? In Fossil Future, Epstein, applying his distinctive “human flourishing framework” to the latest evidence, comes to the shocking conclusion that the benefits of fossil fuels will continue to far outweigh their side effects—including climate impacts—for generations to come. The path to global human flourishing, Epstein argues, is a combination of using more fossil fuels, getting better at “climate mastery,” and establishing “energy freedom” policies that allow nuclear and other truly promising alternatives to reach their full long-term potential. Today's pervasive claims of imminent climate catastrophe and imminent renewable energy dominance, Epstein shows, are based on what he calls the “anti-impact framework”—a set of faulty methods, false assumptions, and anti-human values that have caused the media's designated experts to make wildly wrong predictions about fossil fuels, climate, and renewables for the last fifty years. Deeply researched and wide-ranging, this book will cause you to rethink everything you thought you knew about the future of our energy use, our environment, and our climate.

We are excited to share a Special Edition COBT with you today! We had the opportunity to visit with former guest Alex Epstein, Author of " The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels" and Founder of the Center for Industrial Progress. Alex recently published a new book, " Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas - Not Less." We appreciate his tenacity for swimming against the current tide and are always interested to hear from him as he is at the center of the energy, climate, and technology debate. Our conversation starts with a look at the key themes in "Fossil Future" including energy freedom, freedom to trade, and the importance of contracts / property rights for underdeveloped countries. Alex's philosophical background is at the core of the book which examines and questions how experts think and the knowledge system trickle-down from expert opinions to all of our own conclusions. We also touch on his reflections since his first book released in 2014, potential world population growth or shrinkage, the importance of philosophy, "Arguing to 100," initial feedback he's received for "Fossil Future," human flourishing, and of course, what he thinks the energy world will look like in the next few years. Thank you to Alex for joining! With so much to discuss, we had a quick intro from the Veriten team:  Mike Bradley compared index prices from when Alex's first book released in 2014 to today for commodities, US CPI, World Food and NAM Fertilizer.  Colin Fenton reminded us that in the sea of chatter about a potential recession to stay open to the possibility of stagflation. As always, we hope you enjoy and welcome your feedback! Alex Epstein is a philosopher and author of ‘The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels' and ‘Fossil Future'. In this interview, we discuss how energy abundance has enabled humans to flourish, whether climate mastery has made us unnaturally safe, and the need for more low-cost reliable energy. - - - - According to a recent survey for the UN, 64% of people believe that climate change is a global emergency. News reports are dominated by stories of floods, heatwaves, droughts, hurricanes and other events, highlighted as potential signs of a warming world. The implicit assumption is that urgent reductions in the use of fossil fuels are required to minimise the potential impacts. But increasingly, a growing collective is questioning these opinions. Exploitation of fossil fuels is linked to civilisations' rapid development in the 250 years since the industrial revolution. Yet, billions still lack access to adequate levels of energy. The concern is alternative energy sources won't be able to meet current demands, let alone demands that aren't currently being met. Furthermore, there is scepticism regarding climate change projections and forecast impacts on societies. Those who hold such views are labelled as climate change ‘deniers', a pejorative term meant to imply resistance to science and facts. This is emblematic of how combative and polarised the two sides of the debate have become. Some are now refusing to engage. Perhaps, such division is understandable given the stakes. If global warming has the capacity to be an existential threat this century, then delays in curtailing fossil fuels could be catastrophic. Equally, if such warnings turn out to be wrong then we could be constraining the empowerment of billions of people. In our view, this is why we should remain engaged in the debate.

The Washington Post and DeSmog.com recently published hit pieces attacking Alex Epstein, energy expert and author of the forthcoming book Fossil Future, a book that argues powerfully that the world needs to be massively expanding its use of fossil fuel energy, not cutting it. Instead of engaging with the book's arguments, the Post and DeSmog, in collaboration with self-styled “watchdog group” Documented, dug up pro-individualism articles that Epstein wrote as a teenager more than twenty years ago and tried to insinuate that these reveal some sort of bigotry against non-Western cultures. Join New Ideal's Keith Lockitch and Onkar Ghate as they talk with Alex Epstein about this attempted character assassination and what it reveals about the sorry state of today's debate over climate and energy. The debate regarding climate change and fossil fuels continues to be one of the most contentious in modern society. Most of the Left wants people to believe the world will soon end if we don't immediately switch to “green energy” and immediately abandon fossil fuels. Despite being told by the corporate press that fossil fuels are the culprit responsible for climate changes, the answer is more complex and nuanced. We're joined in-studio by Alex Epstein, author, philosopher, and energy expert. His last book, “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels,” drew both criticism and praise from experts and his upcoming book, “Fossil Future,” is sure to receive a similar response. We'll be discussing his work in the field, thoughts on the future of energy, and a smear campaign the Washington Post is running against him. How "the experts" can be totally wrong about energy

From Alex Epstein: An understandable reaction to my view that the world should be using more fossil fuels in the coming decades, not less, is "This is the exact opposite of what 'the experts' say. Almost every institution I trust says the expert consensus is that we need to rapidly eliminate fossil fuel use. How can you be right and they be wrong?" On this week's Power Hour (coming out this Friday) drawing on some brand-new material from my forthcoming book Fossil Future, I tackle this question head-on, explaining three ways in which experts are often wrong. When we hear claims that "the experts" are wrong, we usually associate it with the claim that most experts in a field are factually mistaken. While this certainly does happen, there are two far more common ways in which "the experts" can be wrong--both of which are at work on the issue of energy. The factual conclusions of experts can be misrepresented by those who claim to speak for all experts. And the factual conclusions of experts can be misevaluated by those who claim to speak for all experts. In this episode I will show definitively that our knowledge system is wildly irrational in its method of moral evaluation when it comes to not only fossil fuels but also other cost-effective forms of energy.
