If you've ever thought about adding teaching to your repertoire, you're in the right place. Today, we're diving into how to narrow down the topics you can teach, a crucial step if you're looking to diversify your revenue streams. Often, the decision to start teaching comes before you're entirely sure what you'll teach. It's an exciting journey, and once you take the plunge, you'll likely find that you love sharing your knowledge with others. Teaching can be incredibly rewarding, but it all starts with ideation. This episode will guide you through a vision-storming session with five essential questions to help you pinpoint exactly what you should teach. We'll explore what makes your craft unique, those informal moments where you naturally fall into a teaching role, and what people are most curious about when they ask you about your work. Firstly, consider what is unique about what you want to teach. Think about the distinctive aspects of your craft—those elements that set your work apart. Reflect on your informal teaching moments; these are the times when you've naturally found yourself explaining or demonstrating your process to others. These moments can provide valuable insights into what you're naturally inclined to teach. Additionally, research market needs and gaps. While it's unlikely you'll find something completely untapped, teaching from your unique perspective can fill a niche and offer something fresh. Pause and assess your personal passion. Ideating can be exhilarating, but slow down to ensure the topic you choose is something you're deeply passionate about. Once you start teaching, it may become a significant part of your career, so it's vital to choose a subject you can talk about for a long time without losing interest. And last but definitely not least, consider how you can make this uniquely you. Brainstorm the specific ways you approach your craft and create a mind map of your process. This personal touch will not only make your teaching more engaging but also distinguish your offerings from others in the market. By the end of this episode, I hope you'll have a clearer vision of what you can teach and how to transform your passion into a fulfilling new aspect of your creative business.

In episode 304, Kestrel welcomes Eric Liedtke, the co-founder and CEO of UNLESS, to the show. A collective of innovators, engineers, artists, and activists, UNLESS make plant-based streetwear designed to leave zero plastic waste. “I think sustainability is one of those hygiene words at this point — like everybody can talk themselves into they're doing sustainable things. I think we need to get more specific. I think as marketers and storytellers, we need to really be very clear with our consumers what we're doing. And you know, this crewneck that nobody can see today that I'm wearing, it's gonna last as long as anything else, but when you're done with it, it will go harmlessly back to earth. And I'm using some of our old product and some of our scraps actually as feed for my raised bed gardens at home. This stuff works and it makes good, nutritious soil that we can grow roses or cotton or tomatoes out of.” -Eric Have you ever heard that recurring question in the sustainability and fashion space? I'd say it's also one that permeates the world of climate advocacy as well – and let's be honest, it's pretty binary-oriented in its framing. I'm talking about the question of which is needed most – individual action, governmental action or corporate change. I mean, let's be real – we are in a state of emergency here, so all hands on deck is preferable, and many of these overlap, but you know, the mainstream narrative continues to search for the golden ticket that will get us all out of this mess. One thing I hear so much more nowadays than in recent years is – the need for corporations to change. There are petitions regularly circulated, there's all the advocacy work organizations like Remake are doing pushing brands to sign onto the International Accord for garment worker safety. And in alignment with this, there is a lot going on with legislation to try to pass legal frameworks that would hold brands accountable to do better. And on that corporate change note – at this current moment in time, we are amidst an era of strikes happening across different industries because the power holders on top don't want to share with the folks working further down the hierarchy. From actors and writers in the entertainment industry to municipal workers and hotel employees, the pressure is on for corporations to change – to share a bigger piece of the massive pie they're indulging in. But also – it's important to acknowledge that there are so many folks across the corporate space working in sustainability and beyond, and trying to challenge the system from within to change. And let's be real – that's not an easy task with all the current systems in place. This week's guest worked from the inside for a so-called *power player* for over 25 years trying to push for change, and then, he left to start his own company with a focus on collaborating with innovators, engineers, artists, and activists, to make plant-based streetwear that leaves zero plastic waste behind. Quotes & links from the conversation: “I did as much as I could when I was at Adidas to turn us from a brand that was focused on just virgin polyester use — as for those that don't know, 70% of fashion and especially sports brands are made from petroleum. It's basically been this advent of petroleum-based product called polyesters or nylons or spandexes, but it all comes from petroleum-based products, which is forever material. When you start to become aware of that, and you start to become aware of the degradation these forever materials have on the planet, on our fellow species, on ourselves, you find it harder and harder to whisper yourself to sleep. And those voices that were personal to you, come up louder and louder in your head. And you can't unhear and unsee the things you're doing. So, at a certain point, you're like ok, I need to step outside and take this industrial experience I have from 26 years at Adidas and my passion for a better way and helping solve the world's problems, and combine it into one effort, and that really was joining forces with a band of likeminded people to create the UNLESS Collective.” -Eric (9:30) Natural Fiber Welding (one of the companies UNLESS partners with) — listen to past episode 124 featuring their founder Luke Haverhals “Luke obviously has this unique innovation of plant-based leather, 100% plant-based leather (the only one I've found by the way), and there's a lot of plants being used for leather-type material — whether it be grapes or apples or coconut or cactus, I think there's a lot of solutions out there. Most of them, if not all of them that I've found, are fillers for polyurethane which is another form of plastic and also need to have backing, which they have to glue a synthetic backing on the back for stability.” -Eric (21:45) UNLESS Website Follow Eric on Instagram > Follow UNLESS on Instagram >

I spent the better part of the last hour looking over the most common, overused, cliche, and annoying phrases that are being used on dating app profiles. I did not do this for myself or my own entertainment, I did this for you. You're probably curious what some of those phrases are. “I'm an open book.” “Looking for a partner in crime.” “If my dog doesn't like you, it's just not gonna work.” “I like to have fun.” “I like to have a good time.” “I love to laugh.” “I'm down to earth.” “I'm laid back.” “I'm looking for a friend first.” I even found a dating profile bingo card. This got me thinking about my worst online dating experiences. Why was I relishing and savoring the amazing experience of cliche dating profile bingo? Because I realize that we are really bad at making ourselves stand out, especially in business. This week, Leti Light takes the mic. She continues the conversation we had last week with Matt Hutter about strategic initiatives and principal gifts. The conversation moves from east coast to west coast as we go from Durham North Carolina to Berkeley, California. Leti emphasizes that giving at the highest levels is not about the dollars but about the idea itself. She also reminds us that partnership is critical at all levels of this kind of work. Leti is the President and co-founder of SIGAP—Strategic Initiatives Group for Advancement Professionals. Leti Light is a leader in higher education fundraising for transformational philanthropic partnerships, often in the form of cross-cutting, multidisciplinary initiatives. As Executive Director, Principal Gifts & Strategic Initiatives at UC Berkeley, Leti and her team partner with a wide range of academic and program leaders and work with the world's leading philanthropists to achieve their vision through partnerships with the university designed to make Berkeley's highest aspirations possible. Over the last 20 years, Leti has led philanthropic development efforts at Cornell University, UCLA, and now UC Berkeley. What is ideating and what is an ideation. These words are becoming popular in business today, but they are not as new as you might think. We’ll talk about how to use them on this episode. While it may be more obvious to play while brainstorming new ideas, play is also valuable throughout the other phases of the creative process. Play is the trap door into the creative process that plunges us into the hard things before we know they are hard, so that our natural courage shows up when we needed it, and so we could prove to ourselves what we are capable of doing. Ideating isn't the only hard thing. Every part of the creative process poses challenges. In today's episode, we'll explore strategies for mining the mess that might pile up during a brainstorm with a puzzle-solving mindset to find the gold. Next, we'll use critical thinking tools to figure out where and how those chosen pieces might best fit into your overall project. Follow the show link to download this week's reflection guide.

On this episode of the DevReady Podcast, Andrew and Anthony have a conversation with Yuriy Tyurin, founder and senior consultant at ConceptAngle Consulting. Yuriy is an expert in automation and process improvement, which his firm, ConceptAngle, was founded to help businesses achieve. A tried and true software developer, Yuriy made his way into automation and consulting when he realized he could apply his knowledge and experience to a wider set than just construction and army engineering. Yuriy suggests that awareness is the first step to improving processes. “I don't need to tell people what their problems are,” he says. You only need to ask more questions. Once someone in leadership becomes aware of a problem, they can then be more susceptible to discussions around process improvement. Beyond asking questions of his clients, Yuriy urges founders and team members in leadership to question themselves. The only way to really grow and tackle innovation is to keep improving, which is the opposite of settling for “what we've always done.” The businesses that fail to recognize this—that fail to see how to address their own problems and innovate in a breakneck world—will ultimately not be successful. ConceptAngle wants to empower businesses to improve their processes and keep a knife's edge on the competition. Topics Covered: ● The language barrier Yuriy encountered as a Russian living in Australia. ● Software is merely a tool, and it should be treated as such. ● Purpose is the only intrinsic motivator that can drive people. ● The importance of meaningful impact. ● The value that people bring to business. ● Coaching, coaching, coaching. ● Process improvement through problem solving. ● Questions matter--that's where innovation happens. ● The danger of building “solutions” that have no problems. ● Why you need to diversify your organization's knowledge store. ● Keep asking “why” to get a better handle on value. Key Quotes ❏ “When you come from a management position, it's very difficult to get back.” (7:20) ❏ “Software by itself doesn't improve anything.” (9:40) ❏ “Technology is a multiplier. If there are problems in the organization, technology will only multiply them.” (11:00) ❏ “Money is a good goal, but it cannot be a purpose.” (13:30) ❏ “Every activity contributes to something meaningful.” (17:45) ❏ “We're not human doings, we're human beings.” (21:00) ❏ “Ideating on a new technology is where innovation sits.” (25:00) ❏ “You cannot deliberately solve a problem you don't know about.” (26:00) ❏ “We should be questioning the way we operate.” (30:00) ❏ “You need to be adding value.” (32:30) ❏ “If you're not making a profit, you can't help your next customer.” (35:15)

Not only is Yvonne freelancing, facilitating workshops, she's also gone back to college to studio counselling, taking this leap is huge, Yvonne’s is the sole parent in a house for her three extremely proud teenagers! Yvonne now holds painting workshops which sell out fast. She also offers private mentoring for artists of all abilities. Many are accomplished designers who might need a new direction or some concentrated time on a subject matter or new style. Yvonne has recently painted a few stunning ranges for Mungo and Shoddy cards 'sun follows rain’ and ‘With the Beatles’ as you can imagine they are selling well on Amazon. We talk about this and Yvonne’s transition, and I think you will see how her caring personality suits counselling too. Yvonne’s Takeaways 1.Nurturing your students is vital. We create our best if we feel it’s safe to explore. 2.Floral workshops are about the energy to your brush strokes as well as the movement. 3.Going back to College in your 40’s with 3 children to support single handed is brave. But that’s where the magic lies. 4.It’s not about getting messy it’s about getting confident 5.Dare to jump and trust that inner pull. 6.You absolutely can build your career and life around multi passions 7.Make peace with what am I? It’s ok to not know what your Identity is at this moment, you can be multi passionate and your talents will feed into each other. We have the world’s attention if all we do is address the things that are immediately at hand, and we ignore the things that weren’t working before, and we ignore the things that are on the horizon. This absolutely will be our Kodak moment, and our industry will be in a world of hurt. But we have the options and the ability to see that to embrace the change and to make some fundamental pivotal shifts in the way we work in the way we deliver space and the way we think about it, that we may not have again, for a long time."So I implore everybody to think big to think beyond just the immediate crisis at hand, don’t be reactive, but really, truly address all of those things that we need to be to move us forward as an industry."
Today I'm talking with former head of core XM at @qualtrics, former @google, and now president of Great Learning talk about how to best develop a product.Ideating is fun. You've probably thought, "I could solve that problem better" or "I could produce a better X." In today's episode you'll find it's not as easy as that. Focusing on the obvious problem may lead to a failed business venture. Listen to entrepreneur, product expert, and professor, Milind Kopikare, talk about how you can uncover your customer's unmet need and develop a solution to a social or emotional problem (those not so obvious issues).

Do you feel like you've tested all the tricks you can think of and come up with. but your hiring success doesn't seem to get any better? In this episode of Building a Modern Employer Brand -podcast I'm addressing five of the most common reasons why talent marketing lacks impact and fails to deliver return on your invested time and money. ⏱ 28:40 min THE 5 REASONS ARE: 1️⃣ Ideating activities that seem like fun to myself. 2️⃣ Not getting my talent audiences right. 3️⃣ Focusing on talent profiles we needed in the past instead of who we need in the future. 4️⃣ Making wrong choices with media and channels. 5️⃣ Getting the message wrong.

Partnering with the University of Cincinnati, BHDP developed a course focusing on the future of work. Over several years, the course has evolved in format, but one element remains true: the necessity to embrace ambiguity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the course was temporarily moved to remote instruction, similar to distributed work in the workplace. Associate Professor Aaron Bradley joins Workplace Client Leader Dominic Iacobucci and Host Brian Trainer to discuss the evolution of the course and the real-time innovation happening amid the pandemic.
In this episode, my wife, Janine and I openly talk about how we are leading our family, making decisions and navigating the range of emotions of ourselves and our four teenagers in the midst of uncertainty. To give you context, I am just out of self-isolation (literally three days ago). It was the weirdest experience ever - being isolated from my family who were themselves isolated as a result of the "Shelter-in-place" order of California governor. (Hear the story behind this from a previous podcast). This means we are working/schooling from home and have access to essential supplies such as medical, food, home supplies and outdoor exercise (and apparently hunting supplies, essential here in Northern CA). So how are we leading our family of four teenagers (13, 16, 17, 19)? Here, we reflect around seven areas of life. As you read or listen, consider your own area's to be intentional SO THAT over this period of time you will ADVANCE and INCREASE. The alternative is to run and hide or simply survive. We sincerely believe that in spite of what is going on, there is always something we can do to grow. So here's what we are doing...Spiritual- Sunday church online together. Our oldest daughter (19) goes to a different church so is doing their online service and bible study.- Communion together a couple times a week- Encouraging one another- Journalling and scripture and praying individually- Respecting one another's different approaches in connecting with GodIntellectual- Kids doing school (1 x 8th grade, 1 x sophomore, 1 x senior, 1 x online college)- Andy listens to audible books and podcasts and is reading John Adams- Janine is reading novels... David BaldacciEmotional- Walking- Digging a hole (Ben - 16!)- Playing with puppy and other dogs- Hugs- Getting into the 'wild' - running somewhere beautifulPhysical - Walking- Biking and mountain biking- Digging- Running- Pushups, lunges...- Ping pongFinancial- Investing in book launch- Updating financial accounts- Ideating about what we can do if this crisis continues beyond another monthRelational- Family meals, together- Family games in the evenings - Nertz, Clue, - Family meeting weekly to talk about how everyone is doing and upcoming weekRelax-tional...- Watching Blindspot on Hulu- Playing ping pong- Walking around the block- Sitting in front of fire and reading a book or listening to music/audible- Routine (get up, get dressed, do your hair, clean your room, do your dishes... school)- Invest in something - project, learning (here's 450 Ivy League School courses for free!) and here's a TON of educational resources for kids (fb group). So what about you? What are your goals for yourself, your marriage, your family at this time? And what other ideas do you have for any of these area's of life?Brought to you by Gulf Coast Recreation, your playground expert.

Welcome back to the Snyder Showdown podcast. Host Chris Snyder is a passionate entrepreneur and digital marketer and loves taking businesses to the next level. He’s the President and partner at Juhll.com, a full-service digital marketing agency aimed at delivering superior results to help clients achieve their business goals. Juhll offers its clients a full range of services, specializing in strategic digital paid media to acquire online customers and generate leads. He’s also the founder, operator and investor in Banks.com, a financial online market place aimed to become everyone’s trusted, go-to resource for all things financial on the web. In this episode, Chris talks about the process by which ideas move from inception to execution. Ideas are a great starting point, but without proper planning and curation, they will never come to fruition. Not all ideas are great, as Chris points out in this episode. Some are unrealistic or do not align with your daily activities. Chris is a proponent of documenting and refining ideas in order to ensure that they align you’re your vision. He uses the Snyder Showdown Podcast as an example to drive this point home. This show originally started as an idea that Chris had which he wrote down and refined before deciding to partner with Harry and his podcast production company, FullCast. By taking the time to find the right match, flesh out his idea and apply action, Chris was able to start a successful new show. Chris stresses the importance of putting forth effort in order to give life to ideas. If you are willing to put in the time and effort necessary, then your idea can morph into something brilliant.
