In a world of job-hopping, side hustles, and an endless LinkedIn feed, Tim Harris did something almost no one does anymore. He stayed put. Few executives spend an entire career helping build a dynasty. Tim Harris spent 35 years with the Los Angeles Lakers, rising to President of Business Operations and helping transform the franchise into a global brand. Through championship eras, iconic athletes like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, and decades of change in professional sports, Tim's influence was felt not on the hardwood, but in the culture, leadership, and business excellence that powered one of the NBA's most storied organizations. In this episode you'll learn: ➡️ Why clarity of role is the most underrated tool in any leader's arsenal ➡️ The three unspoken words that silently destroy any team ➡️ What Kobe Bryant taught Tim about mindset (+ why it matters off the court) ➡️ How the Lakers built one of the most powerful brands in sports ➡️ What elite athletes do differently + how it translates directly to business ➡️ What caring, high-performing leadership actually looks like ➡️ Why giving away free tickets to strangers was a brilliant + caring business decision ➡️ The cost of short-termism + what we lose when we stop playing the long game Even a brand as iconic as the Lakers wasn't built by championships alone. Tom and Drew break down a stacked news day starting with the Trump DOJ signing off on a $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" settlement that wraps up Trump's pending lawsuits and grants tax-investigation immunity to him, Donald Jr., Eric, and the Trump Organization for any returns filed before the investigation date. Tom unpacks why this functions as a soft self-pardon, why the slush fund framing is structurally dangerous regardless of the merits, and why presidents need to operate knowing every move will be scrutinized after they leave office. From there, the guys get into Trump claiming he paused a bombing campaign against Iran an hour before it was set to launch at the request of GCC nations, US bond yields hitting their highest level since 2007, and the AIPAC-funded primary takedown of Thomas Massie in Kentucky — the one Congressman wearing a pin tracking the national debt, now removed by lobby money in the most naked display of money-in-politics this cycle. Tom delivers an extended argument on the overproduction of elites — why too many people are being pushed into white-collar tracks the economy can't reward, how this fuels the resentment cycle driving political instability, and why historical empires (including pre-Revolution France) collapsed under the same dynamic. He walks through the Niall Ferguson book on the Rothschilds as a case study for understanding the meta-rules of how the world actually works, and pushes back hard against the Jeff Bezos pitch to exempt lower earners from federal taxes — arguing that everyone paying in is the only mechanism that keeps the government accountable. Plus: Mark Zuckerberg's leaked audio explaining why Meta is recording employee computer use to train AI amid the layoffs, why Tom is heading to Piers Morgan to debate AI displacement, how Kobe Bryant's pivot from basketball to filmmaking models the right mindset for navigating technological disruption, Ashley St. Clair's claim that Elon had access to 2024 election data, and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson saying she "felt seen" being called a communist by Trump. This one is dense. Tom is in deep-dive mode the whole episode, particularly on the central banking and inflation theft mechanics that he argues are the real engine behind almost every political fight currently dominating the news cycle. The conversation shifts to the Oklahoma City Thunder's roster construction and their upcoming playoff challenge against Victor Wembanyama.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore sits down with Patrick Bet-David for one of the most unfiltered political conversations of 2026. A Bronze Star Army combat vet. The first Black governor in Maryland's history. A man who was polling at 1% - and won anyway. But is he the Democrat who could shake up 2028? PBD makes the case.In this episode, Governor Moore doesn't hold back. He calls Trump's Venezuela operation "a ridiculous military operation." He praises Trump's Baby Bonds while calling out what he says are illegal federal overreaches. He admits he was personally disinvited from the White House governors dinner — and to this day has no idea why. He reveals what Trump said to his face the first time they met. And when pushed on transgender kids, puberty blockers, and whether he'd support his own son through a transition — he gives an answer that will have people talking.Plus - the story nobody knows: how a young Wes Moore turned down college basketball scholarships, played against Kobe Bryant in high school, and chose the 82nd Airborne instead.———
EP 144: When Everything Changes Overnight: Corie Blount on Fighting for His Son, CJ Episode Description: On this episode of This Thing Called Life, former University of Cincinnati standout and 11-year NBA veteran Corie Blount shares a deeply personal story far beyond the game. His 25-year-old son, CJ, went from a simple headache and fatigue to a life-altering diagnosis: dangerously high blood pressure and severe kidney disease. With no family history, the news came out of nowhere. Now on dialysis, CJ is waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant as Corie and their family begin the emotional journey of seeing who might be a match. This conversation is about more than basketball, it's about fatherhood, resilience, and what it means to show up when everything shifts in an instant. Corie also reflects on life after the NBA—from co-hosting Legends Unplugged with Terry Nelson to his work on the Bob Huggins documentary. It's an honest, powerful look at how quickly life can change and the strength it takes to fight for the people you love. Episode Highlights Host Andi Johnson welcomes former NBA player Corie Blount, whose connection to both the University of Cincinnati and the organ donation community brings depth and perspective to the conversation. Corie reflects on his basketball journey—from his time at the University of Cincinnati to an 11-year NBA career playing alongside legends like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and Scottie Pippen. He shares his deep connection to Cincinnati, describing it as home and a place that continues to shape his life beyond basketball. The conversation shifts as Corie opens up about his son CJ's sudden health crisis, which began with what seemed like minor symptoms—headaches and fatigue—but quickly escalated. After being taken to the emergency room, CJ was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure and severe kidney failure, leaving the family in shock. Corie candidly describes the emotional impact of the diagnosis and the steep learning curve his family faced in understanding kidney disease, dialysis, and transplant options. CJ is now undergoing dialysis treatments while awaiting a kidney transplant, and Corie shares how the family has rallied together to support him physically and emotionally. Despite the challenges, CJ continues to show strength, positivity, and resilience, even after graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in business. Corie emphasizes the importance of being present as a family, recalling how loved ones stayed by CJ's side in the hospital to ensure he never felt alone. He shares his willingness to become a donor himself and speaks about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle—both for donors and recipients. The episode highlights the importance of organ donation awareness, particularly the need for more people to consider living donation. Andi explains how simple it is to begin the donor testing process, often starting with a basic mouth swab. The conversation introduces the concept of paired kidney exchange, where donors who are not a direct match can still help save lives through a matching network. Corie expresses gratitude for organizations like Network for Hope, which help educate families and guide them through the transplant journey. Beyond his family's story, Corie shares updates on his life after basketball, including his podcast “Legends Unplugged” and involvement in the Bob Huggins documentary. The episode concludes with a powerful call to action—encouraging listeners to get informed, consider donation, and support families navigating similar challenges. Key Takeaways Health Crises Can Happen Without Warning CJ's story is a reminder that serious health conditions can develop unexpectedly, even without a known family history—making awareness and regular checkups essential. Support Systems Make All the Difference In moments of crisis, the presence of family, community, and trusted organizations provides strength, stability, and hope. Organ Donation Saves Lives—and Starts With Awareness From simple testing to paired exchanges, understanding the donation process can open doors to life-saving opportunities for those in need. Tweetable Quotes “I have an indebtedness of gratitude to the city and the university, and that's why I'm still here, and this is home now.” Corie Blount “ It's more of a learning curve for me, and then just trying to make sure that let him know he's loved and that we're supporting him. He's never alone. Whenever he was at the hospital, our whole family was there sleeping on the couches and on the floors and everything, just to show our support. We're supporting it now through this; it's just a learning curve.” Corie Blount “I appreciate what you guys did with the program, that you guys have to bring awareness to his situation, and it kind of educated me also.” Corie Blount “I never even knew you could live with one kidney, right when you met someone saying that they needed a kidney, like, 'Man, if I get my kidney up. How am I going to live? How is my life going to be moving forward?' But the good thing that I've learned is that you have to treat your body right, no matter what.” Corie Blount “And it's important also to say that to be tested to be a living kidney donor, it's actually a very simple process, and it starts with a mouth swab. They send you a Q tip, it's a longer Q tip, and they do a mouth swab, and that's how the process starts.” Andi Johnson “It's hard for someone that you know, being of such a young age, you know, I think too, though it is helpful that he is young and doing the dialysis versus being older.” Corie Blount “Well, our hope and prayer is that you are the match, and if not, it's someone else in the family or but I would, I would not be surprised if there aren't people just knocking down the door to see if they would be a match for CJ.” Andi Johnson “Interesting fact about the living kidney donation process is that even if you're not a match for CJ, or if anyone else wants to be tested, and they're not a match for CJ, but they can still be a donor. Then there's this program. It's called the Paired Kidney exchange. So then you, for example, would donate to someone else that you were a match for, and then someone else who was a match for CJ would then donate for him.” Andi Johnson “Man, this is phenomenal that I don't know how we would have been able to deal with what we deal with. And fortunately, organizations like yourselves are stepping up and getting people to understand what's going on, and it's definitely needed.” Corie Blount Resources: Donatelifeky.org https://getoffthelist.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/about-us/ https://www.networkforhope.org/stories-of-hope/ https://www.facebook.com/NetworkForHopeOPO https://www.youtube.com/@NetworkforHope. https://aopo.org/ RegisterMe.org/NetworkforHope

David is joined by friend and young mentee, Travis Woolard, to recount how everything from Lakers fandom, to Kobe Bryant's death, to Thriving multiethnic Christian community have all been foundational to both their faiths and relationship. In short, "God is good... All the time. And all the time... God is good."
A 13-point lead vanishes, the threes stop falling, and suddenly every old Celtics fear feels brand new again. We start by taking a quick lap around the NBA playoffs, but the real goal is to figure out what actually wins in May: habits, matchups, and coaching choices that hold up when the game turns tight. We hit the big league storylines first, including OKC embarrassing Phoenix and what that does to the Devin Booker conversation. From there we get into Kevin Durant's legacy whiplash, the locker room questions that follow him, and why the burner account era still changes how fans judge leadership. We also talk ourselves through LeBron James at 41, the longevity case, and how it feels when the player you love to hate keeps forcing a rethink. Then we detour into all-time rankings with a very specific argument: Larry Bird versus Kobe Bryant, what “killer mentality” really means, and how era context can distort the way we compare stars. After a stop at Nuggets vs Timberwolves and the Jokic discourse machine, we turn the spotlight where it belongs: Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers. We break down Joel Embiid coverage, why defending by committee matters, and why letting Embiid hunt one-on-one matchups is inviting trouble. On offence, we dig into the Celtics' three-point dependence, why rushed twos show up when the threes miss, and what a real Plan B could look like, including more Jaylen Brown pressure and more Peyton Pritchard initiation. If you're watching the NBA playoffs and asking why Boston looks brilliant one night and lost the next, this is the conversation. Subscribe, share the show with a Celtics fan who is spiralling, and leave a review with your own Plan B for Boston.Support the show-----------https://www.MTPshow.comOur Social Mediahttps://linktr.ee/MTPSHOW-----------Hosts: Mike Marcangelo, Dave Clarke, Rayshawn Buchanan, Bob KellyProducer: Craig D'AlessandroInquiries: Craig@mtpshow.com
Send us Fan MailJay and Rhea welcome Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist and author Mike Sielski to the show — and they're leading with a number that should terrify every sports league in America: Peacock lost $432 million in a single quarter, with cumulative losses now north of $11 billion since 2020. The gang breaks down the real culprit: younger audiences don't watch sports the way Gen X and Boomers did, and streaming kills the "channel-flipping" behavior that created casual fans in the first place. Meanwhile, NHL playoff ratings are surging on basic cable while the NBA tanks on Amazon — and nobody in power seems willing to say the quiet part out loud.THEN: Michael opened to $200 million worldwide with a 40% critic score and a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes — one of the widest gaps in movie history. Is this proof that professional film critics have completely lost the plot? The gang debates whether audiences go to biopics for journalism or for the music, why Bohemian Rhapsody set this template a decade ago, and what it means that newspapers like the Philadelphia Inquirer no longer even employ film critics.ALL THAT PLUS: Mike Sielski on why letting your subject have editorial control turns biography into whitewashing — and how he kept his independence writing about both Kobe Bryant and Sylvester Stallone. Netflix's Untold series somehow makes a University of Florida documentary that doesn't mention Aaron Hernandez. The Last Dance lets Michael Jordan take shots at a dead GM with no rebuttal. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is exactly as good as you hoped. The Boys Episode 5 is back and leaning in. Zodiac might genuinely be the best movie of the 2000s. When Michael Jordan signed with an upstart running shoe company called Nike in the 1980s, it revolutionized the signature sneaker landscape and made Nike the brand to beat. Under Armour made a similar play signing Steph Curry in 2013. But it didn't pan out quite the way they hoped. Still, nowadays it seems like every star athlete needs a signature line. Tim Newcomb is a sneaker and sports tech reporter whose work has appeared in Forbes, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and more. He's breaking down the rise of the signature shoe from Chuck Taylors in the 1920s to Kobe Bryant's and Roger Federer's signature kicks.
