Jonathan Tropper has built his career around characters who walk the thin line between flawed humanity and outright chaos, whether in the pulpy B-movie action thrills of "Banshee," the martial arts drama "Warrior," or the family dysfunction of "This Is Where I Leave You." Now, with his latest Apple TV+ series, "Your Friends & Neighbors," Tropper heads to wealthy suburbia, exploring scandal, betrayal, and the hidden dangers lurking behind the facade of a seemingly perfect community. On the Bingeworthy podcast, Tropper joined host Mike DeAngelo to discuss his darkly comedic drama, collaborating with Jon Hamm, the show's thematic ties to classic suburban films, and even his upcoming "Star Wars" project with director Shawn Levy."Your Friends & Neighbors" follows Andrew "Coop" Cooper (Jon Hamm), a hedge fund manager recently disgraced and fired, whose life unravels further after his divorce. Desperate to maintain his lifestyle, Coop turns to robbing the homes of his wealthy neighbors in the affluent Westmont Village—only to discover that the secrets hidden behind these upscale doors may be far more dangerous than he anticipated. The ensemble cast also includes Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, and more.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last week, just two weeks ahead of the studio's return to San Diego Comic Con and the release of their sole theatrical outing for the year, Marvel surprised fans by releasing the teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Clocking in at just under two minutes, this first look is chock full of characters, set pieces and action, with a tense political atmosphere on display that certainly harkens back to 2014's much beloved The Winter Soldier. Marvel Animation has clearly found a voice they have a lot of confidence in, as What If…? series writer Matthew Chauncey has been hired to write the third season of X-Men '97. He replaces Beau DeMayo who wrote the incredibly well received first season of the animated revival as well as the yet to air second season, before being infamously fired by Disney ahead of the show's premiere. Chauncey previously stepped up into a leadership position when he replaced What If…?'s A.C. Bradley as the head writer for season 3. Beau DeMayo received a lot of retroactive praise for not shying away from social issues and commentary with his first season of X-Men '97. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy's career seems to continue to be on the upswing, as his Star Wars film locked down a writer, Levy's frequent collaborator, Jonathan Tropper. Tropper wrote 2022's The Adam Project and is well established in the TV world, having created both Warrior and Banshee, as well as working as the showrunner for Apple TV's See. There are a lot of Star Wars films in the works these days, many of which were announced prior to Levy's and have yet to receive such significant updates. Despicable Me 4 held the top spot at the box office last weekend, becoming the first animated franchise to cross the $5 billion threshold. Newcomer Longlegs took second place with an impressive $22.6 million debut, setting a record for indie distributor Neon. Warner Brothers and Paramount have unveiled the first trailer for Watchmen Chapter 1, the first of two upcoming animated films set to release digitally on August 13th. The voice cast features Matthew Rhys as Nite Owl, Katee Sackhoff as the second Silk Spectre, Titus Welliver as Rorshach, and Michael Cerveris as Doctor Manhattan, among other notable actors. Michael Bay is in talks to direct Barbaric, a fantasy series for Netflix based on the Vault Comics title. It will star Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart with X-Men First Class screenwriter Sheldon Turner writing and executive producing the series. Prime Video has ordered The Greatest, a limited series about Muhammad Ali from executive producers Michael B. Jordan and Ben Watkins with Jaalen Best starring as Ali. It is the first authorized scripted series with access to Ali's estate. Apple TV+ released a teaser for Severance Season 2, which premieres on January 17 and will include 10 episodes that release on Fridays weekly. A prequel series to Martin, the show that ran on Fox from 1992 to 1997 and starred Martin Lawrence is in development and will be titled Young Martin. Lawrence's production company RunTelDat will produce. Filming on Euphoria's third season is slated to begin in January 2025 — just about three years after the premiere of season two. HBO says all of the principal cast is set to return, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer. Shelley Duvall who starred in seven films directed by her mentor, Robert Altman and is best known for her role in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, died last Thursday. She was 75. Shannen Doherty, who starred on Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, has died after a long battle with cancer. She was 53. On Monday, Netflix released a behind the scenes video of production of the final season of Stranger Things featuring looks at the set, returning cast, and new characters. The series is currently expected to debut sometime in 2025.

251. Wat gekookte andijvie te maken heeft met steengoed schrijven

Aartjan van Erkel Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 6, 2022 4:12

This is where I leave you': “Phillip, my baby brother, who used to climb into bed with me, smelling of lavender baby shampoo, and press his smooth, rounded cheek against mine, gently pulling at my arm hairs as I told him stories.” In a dystopian 2050, pilot Adam Reed steals his time jet and escapes through time on a rescue mission to 2018. However, he accidentally crash-lands in 2022 instead where Adam meets his 12-year-old self who is struggling with the recent death of their father Louis. Adam reluctantly enlists his younger self's help to repair his jet and reveals that he is looking for his wife, Laura, who was supposedly killed in a crash while on a mission to 2018.Adam is chased to 2022 by Maya Sorian, the leader of the dystopian world and her lieutenant Christos who attempt to apprehend Adam and take him back to 2050. The Adams are rescued by Laura who reveals that she had escaped an assassination attempt on her and was left stranded in the past. Laura had learned that Sorian had traveled back in time and altered the past in order to give herself control of time travel and the future. Laura urges Adam to travel back to 2018 and destroy time travel, which was created by his father Louis, in order to set things right and save the future. Sorian attacks and Laura sacrifices herself so that the two Adams can escape. Chased by Sorian and with only enough power for one time jump, Adam and his younger self jump back to 2018.In 2018, the two Adams attempt to enlist Louis' help, but he refuses out of concern for the scientific impact on the timestream. The younger Adam confronts his future self about his bitterness and anger and realizes that the source of it is his lingering pain over their father's death. As the two launch an attack to destroy Louis' particle accelerator, Louis changes his mind and joins the mission, having them instead retrieve the hard drive containing the only copy of his algorithm that enables time travel. A battle erupts between the Adams, Louis, Sorian, her younger self, Sorian's soldiers and Christos, resulting in the particle accelerator overloading. Sorian attempts to shoot Louis with an armor-piercing bullet, but the magnetic field of the accelerator instead diverts the bullet, causing it to kill the younger Sorian, erasing Sorian from existence as the Reeds flee. With time travel destroyed and the future set right, Louis chooses not to learn of his own fate and enjoys a game of catch with both versions of his son before the Adams are returned to their own times. In 2022, Adam lets go of his bitterness and anger and reconciles with his mother whom he has been distant from ever since Louis' death. Years later, an adult and much happier Adam meets Laura in a situation mirroring their first meeting in the original timeline.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

This episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast is something of a "stunt special" as we have two interviews. The first is with Thom Khoury WIlliams, stunt coordinator on DC's 'Doom Patrol', and Brett Chan who coordinates the martial arts epic 'Warrior'.Up first is Thom Khoury WIlliams, who has hundreds of credits to his name as a stunt performer from shows such as '24', 'NCIS', 'Lost', 'The Walking Dead' and 'The Vampire Diaries', to movies such as 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2', 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', 'Baby Driver' and 'The Matrix Resurrections'. However, we're here mainly to talk to him about his work as a stunt coordinator on the wonderfully bonkers 'Doom Patrol'.'Doom Patrol' reimagines one of DC's strangest group of heroes – Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) – Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. They have been brought together by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton) to form a, somewhat dysfunctional, family of superheroes.Thom's other stunt coordinator work includes the Marvel/Netflix show 'The Punisher', which landed him his first Emmy nomination. He also worked on the pilot of HBO's astonishing 'Watchmen' series, and was responsible for the motion capture coordination on a number of video games including 'Middle-Earth: Shadow of War', and a number of the 'Halo' games. The second interview is with Brett Chan, stunt coordinator on the martial arts epic 'Warrior'.From ‘Banshee' creator Jonathan Tropper and ‘Fast and the Furious' Justin Lin, based on an original concept and treatment by the legendary Bruce Lee, ‘Warrior‘ is a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco's Chinatown in the late 19th century. The series follows Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances. After proving his worth as a fighter, Ah Sahm becomes a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown's most powerful tongs (Chinese organized crime family). In the interview, we discuss getting emotion into the fight sequences and evolving the action to drive the plot. We also discuss getting in those "Bruce Lee-isms" without coming on too strong, and sending lead actor Andrew Koji to China to study karate and fight techniques, to bring culturally authentic fight choreography to the show.Brett also worked on CW's 'Kung Fu', so we chat about the differences between the two shows, and worked on two seasons of 'Snowpiercer', which comes with its own challenges of creating fight sequences in incredibly tight spaces. His latest project saw him jump in on the upcoming Paramount+ series 'Halo', based on the video game franchise, as he tackled the action there with a very quick turnaround.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Cinemax's Warrior was one of my favorite series last year as a fan and as a critic. Based on an original concept by Bruce Lee, the show was created by Jonathan Tropper and Justin Lin and blends drama, the Old West, and martial arts. Set during the Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century. it follows martial arts prodigy Ah Sahm, a Chinese immigrant who arrives in the City of Lights under mysterious circumstances. Once he proves his prowess as a fighter, Sahm becomes a hitman for one of Chinatown's most powerful organized crime families. That said, while Ah Sahm is the central character of Warrior, he is surrounded by powerful female characters that push the story of the series farther and offer up a look at the intersections of race, gender, and class. This is no truer than in Ah Toy, the most powerful businesswoman in Chinatown, who just so happens to be a madam. Portrayed by Olivia Cheng, Ah Toy is a powerful woman who understands how the world sees her, both within her Chinese American community and among the white men she deals with. I was lucky enough to get the chance to speak with Olivia Cheng before the launch of Warrior Season 2. In this interview, we discuss the series' relevancy during the current rise of anti-Asian hate crimes and how the series introduces audiences to Asian American history. Warrior does this in multiple ways, but referencing specifical historical moments to Ah Toy herself, a character based on a real woman of the same name. A self-proclaimed history buff, Cheng explains how she knew the history of San Francisco ahead of shooting the series, but dove even further into by learning more about Ah Toy, of which there isn't much written from her perspective.

Chen Tang | ActorChen Ying Tang (born 18 July 1988) has an international background that instilled in him early a lifelong love and curiosity for different cultures, peoples, and experiences. As a Chinese citizen and US Permanent Resident, and fluent in both Mandarin and English, he has been able to bridge a gap between both Hollywood and China during his career. He has acted in numerous films and television series, most recently as "Yao" in the much-anticipated Disney live-action remake of Mulan (2020) directed by Niki Caro, and as the main cast member "Hong" of the Bruce Lee inspired Cinemax show Warrior (2019) from Jonathan Tropper and Justin Lin. Other recurring credits include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013), Bosch (2014), Grey's Anatomy (2005), and Being Mary Jane (2013), among others.Born in Kobe, Japan, and spending his childhood in Guangxi, China, Chen Tang belongs to the ethnic minority Zhuang group from Southern China. His parents were trained as medical doctors in China, and among the first government-sponsored international students to leave the Mainland during the re-opening of China in the 1980s. His parents lived in Japan for almost six years, during which Chen was raised by his grandmother back in China while they pursued their doctorates there. After immigrating to the United States, Chen's family settled in the Deep South in Memphis, Tennessee. Not knowing anything different, his first accent in English was a natural Southern accent, which for some reason always surprises people to hear. Though he always stayed connected to his Chinese roots, and often revisited China, he still feels very much rooted to the Southern culture he grew up in.Chen has great respect for the men and women in the armed forces, no matter the country. Coming from a military family (his grandfather and several relatives serving in the Chinese People's Liberation Army), he once had aspirations of being a soldier. But soon falling in love with acting instead, he went off to Boston, and then later New York City to pursue his craft. Sporadic work began to come his way on the New York stage, in television, and independent films, and he eventually made the move to Los Angeles to pursue his passion in front of the camera. Perhaps due to his varied travels and background, Chen has consistently been noted for a "rare, chameleon-like ability to transform" in his work, resulting in many roles that appear, sound, and feel very distinct from each other.
