This new tool, added in ArcGIS Pro 3.2, helps you prepare for statistical analysis by configuring, visualizing, and refining spatial relationships. By understanding the spatial proximity between features and their neighbours, users can model geographic effects accurately across various domains and problems. Maggie highlights a subtle but significant update to ArcGIS StoryMaps. Map actions have now been replaced with Media Actions, allowing you to create interactions not just the map but can be used to swap out the media entirely for a different piece of media. Want users to be able to add points to your map with a Survey123 form? Now you can add that form right to your story with media actions. Inside the Arc - Feature interview that takes our audience inside an Esri product or capability Navigating the vast array of tools within the ArcGIS ecosystem can be daunting for many organizations. Video Version About the Podcast My guest today is Scott Lushin, Senior Manager of Global Operational Excellence at Donaldson Company, Incorporated. In this episode, Scott takes us through his professional journey. Starting off in retail automotive and the restaurant business, it is obvious that has two passions; problem solving and leadership. Although his passion for problem-solving made itself readily apparent in his early life, his skills in leadership made themselves known later and over time. Scott started his journey right out of high school at an automotive service chain where he became manager and then training manager. After a few years, he eventually moved on to work in the food industry at a chain of restaurants; becoming training manager then district manager. Against his mother's advice against seeking a job in manufacturing, he joined Donaldson through a temp-agency. He has always been a ‘thinker', a problem solver, even as a kid he loved to solve problems. The more complex the problem, the more fun they were to solve. He could spend days trying to unravel a problem and eventually he got very good at it. His problem-solving specialty is manufacturing and process improvements. Scott sees the world through a different lens, which is why he is often called upon to solve complex problems. He especially loves being thrown into a complex problem and forming a team to tackle it. Even though Scott did not (and does not still) have a college degree, Donaldson must have seen something in Scott, as he has been there 32 years. He has held positions and roles too varied to list, but include: Operations Supervisor, Manufacturing Engineer, C.I. Engineer, C.I. Specialist, Operations Management, and since 2019 leading efforts with Global Operational Excellence. There was a time when a person without a college degree could grow to leadership roles in a company and Scott is living proof. Has that time passed? Or has enough time not passed to make that determination. We shall see. LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottlushin/ Company: Donaldson Company, Incorporated Title: Senior Manager, Global Operational Excellence Website: https://www.donaldson.com/ Year Founded: 1915 Company Type: Publicly Traded (DCI) About: Donaldson Company, Inc. manufactures and sells filtration systems and replacement parts worldwide. In Yemen, the USAID-funded Systems, Health, and Resiliency Project (SHARP) is using innovative mobile solutions to increase immunization coverage for children. The project recently piloted an SMS reminder system and an Electronic Immunization Registry to share vaccination information between community midwives, health facilities, and parents. The result? A resounding win: uptake of Penta3 (the third dose of a vaccine that protects against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b) increased by 38%, and dropout rates dropped significantly in the pilot area. In this podcast episode, Dr. Areej Banaja, SHARP Senior Health Facility Manager, talks to Omar Al-Gundaid, SHARP Communication Manager, about these innovative interventions and getting the message out about the importance of childhood vaccinations. Dr. Areej has eight years of experience in the clinical and public health sectors with international nongovernmental organizations and UN agencies. She has worked in humanitarian and fragile settings, focusing on emergency and outbreak response, supply chain management, and child health. Prior to joining JSI, Dr. Areej was a child health officer at the UNICEF Yemen country office, where she played a key role in the national response to outbreaks of cholera, diphtheria, and COVID-19. SHARP works to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Yemen by focusing on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition coupled with support services to tackle health challenges such as COVID-19, malnutrition, and other life-threatening conditions. This week we continue to explore Telecom Expense Management, with special guest Jordan Philip, Sales Engineer at brightfin. Automated Transcription: Josh Lupresto (00:02): Welcome to the podcast that is designed to fuel your success in selling technology solutions. I'm your host, Josh Lupresto, VP of Sales Engineering at Telarus, and this is Next Level Biztech. Hey everybody, welcome back. I'm your host, Josh Lupresto, SVP here at Telarus. And this is the Next Level Biztech podcast. So we're getting towards the end of season one here on the podcast, and we're kicking this final session off with telecom expense management. So today we've got on Jordan Philip of Brightfin, who's got a cool engineering and, and partner success background. Jordan, appreciate you being on. Thanks for coming on, man. Jordan Philip (00:55): No, thanks for having me. Really appreciate it. Josh Lupresto (00:57): So, so Jordan, I I love to hear everybody's background, where they started, how they got into this space. Why don't you just kick us off. Have you always been in tech? Did you know you wanted to do tech? You know, what's your path getting up to this point? And then go into a little bit about your role now. Jordan Philip (01:11): Sure, yeah. Okay. so no, I didn't actually always know I wanted to be in tech. I was obsessed with airplanes, honestly, when I grew up and never really saw that as a, as a, a path forward. So, out of high school, I attended a University of Colorado with a concentration on pre-med. This is never my passion, but I couldn't figure out what I, what I wanted to do when I grew up. So I had some doctors in my family, so I figured I'd just go for it. It, it wasn't good and I was miserable. So I kind of moved over to my passion. I got through flight school between Emry Brittle and airs sorry, asu through all that huge expense and realized I didn't wanna fly for a living. So it's still a passion, but it's not really something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Jordan Philip (01:56): So I still fly general aviation from time to time, like little puddle jumpers just to kind of feed my inner child. So I left there and pursued one of my other passions. Cuz as a kid I was always taking apart computers and trying to figure out what was inside and what kind of made them tick, right? So moved into tech and specifically computer and home theater systems. So I started my own IT consulting business in 2006. I was 23 at the time. Shortly thereafter I moved back to Denver where I'd been since 96. And I kind of got hooked up with Mobile Solutions which you'll find out later, was one of the feeder companies into Brightfin during the three-way merger that's kind of existed over the last three years. So I, I was a sys admin for them from 2008 until 2015 through my consulting business. Jordan Philip (02:45): And at that time I never really understood why such a company existed, a telecom expense management company. I was just kind of awestruck at that, like that there's actually a need for that type of service. So in 2014 the CEO kind of took me golfing and attempted to take me off the market and he offered me a job with their sales team. The sales team was growing over there and they wanted to kinda have somebody come in and normalize the sales process. They needed a technically minded person like me to deliver sales demonstration and overall offer presale support. I took the role in early 2015, kind of made 'em sweat a little bit but I still keep a couple of clients on the side even to this day. Then until 2022 or so, I filled roles like sys admin uem, mdm administrator, Director of Logistics solution architects. So there were a lot of hats on my desk, honestly which kept it really interesting cuz to be honest with you, te as a whole is, it's a little dry. It's not the most exciting sales demonst Josh Lupresto (03:49): You're ever gonna no Jordan Philip (03:51): . It is like, oh,
Brandon recently attended the first annual Master Tech Expo. It was put on by Mobile Solutions' Bryan Schmitt. Today, Bryan is in the studio to share behind the scenes. His event consisted of classes, build offs, and even music. He says next year will be even bigger and better. Not only will they rent out an entire amphitheater for opening night, they'll be all-inclusive for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With keynote speakers and even more activities, it'll be an event you won't want to miss. Bryan has been building respect for the industry long before this event. It started with Mobile Solutions, a premier car audio training facility. Starting out of his garage and doing on-site training, Bryan has slowly built up to the state-of-the-art facility he owns now. With thousands of people going through their training, they built their reputation one client at a time. When Covid-19 hit, those trainings came to a halt. Bryan is now gearing up to do his first big class since then, and he has a fully revamped facility to do it in. Class is full, but keep an eye out for the next one. What You'll Learn: What the Master Tech Expo is. What Bryan's key to success is. The philosophy behind Mobile Solutions products. What Bryan has 6 patents on. Favorite Quote: “I would dare to say it's the most state-of-the-art training facility in our industry, hands down.” - Bryan Schmitt

Points covered in the conversation include: How the telecoms model works. In telecoms, how new software programs go to market. The reality of breaking in as a new vendor. What agents do in an initial sale, and then the renewal to support the customer and earn payment forever, and how to set up agents so that they create value. Getting customers to renew and the importance of the customer experience. The deal registration process, which opens customers up to the vendor's direct sales reps. The role of trust and relationship between customers and partners. What master agencies look for in new suppliers; primarily the need comes from the bottom up, as well as exclusivity (UVP). Channel demand pulling, and channel stuffing, and the response of Mobile Solutions to this common issue. Why stop selling and educate instead. How to create value on something that you don't truly own. Teaser Tip: … “If you can design the model to educate and train master agents on where they need to go and how your product or platform or solution can get them there, you ultimately have a win-win and a pretty smooth process, though it still takes time.” - Michael Sterl Resources Mentioned: Amazon Web Services Office 365 CenturyLink Verizon Rogers Telus Comcast Azure Equinix IBM Salesforce Oracle Windstream Letgo Fortify Thank you to our amazing podcast team at Content Allies. “It’s no longer just about managing just the smart phone,” says Greg Plum, Channel Chief at Mobile Solutions. In this podcast Plum makes the case that the mobility end point is a most critical part of the network, and that securing that end point, and managing that resource properly is a key to many other challenges. “Ask what they’re doing with regard to mobility,” urges Plum of the channel partners, challenging them to engage their customers as a trusted resource, and not just as a cost cutter. Plum discusses the company’s three pillar approach to the market: OPTIMIZE, focusing on cost containment leveraging MAX, their proprietary software platform providing enhanced visibility and control, when compared to the carrier portals; SECURE, addressing the need for a comprehensive unified endpoint management (UEM) solution to ensure security and control at the device level; and MANAGE, offering device staging and kitting, and even device reclamation, to recover costs on the back end. Plum discusses some new offerings and opportunities for channel partners as well. The company has developed very innovative answers to challenges such as hotspot shortages, as people had to shelter in place, and now bandwidth management tools for schools requiring CIPA compliance for their student users. Plum is excited about the way Mobile Solutions is allowing partners to “uncover mobility” issues, and then offer dynamic solutions that address those needs. “The story of savings never goes out of style,” says Plum, “but the future is elevating the conversation to address what is keeping IT managers up at night… security.” Visit https://mobilesolutions.net/

We recorded on March 24, 2020, and we had scheduled this interview well before the coronavirus had overtaken our lives. We both decided to record anyway, so I put my typical what is culture podcast questions aside, and we talked about how the global pandemic has affected her world, her country, her work. In many ways, this is a conversation that I think we should all be having with our colleagues right now.

Sam Gikandi is the CEO and co-founder of Africa’s Talking, a pan-African mobile technology company empowering developers across the continent. Prior to Africa’s Talking, Sam worked for Morgan Stanley, the investment bank, in the US and Hong Kong. In the Asia office, he helped build the high frequency trading platform and led a team trading hundreds of millions of dollars per day. In 2010, intrigued by the burgeoning tech scene in his home country of Kenya, he set up with a co-founder Africa’s Talking. While it started as a side hustle, two years later, Sam took on a full-time COO/CTO role in the company, developing the software developer-facing part of the business. As demand for business APIs in Kenya exploded with the strong growth of tech startups and mobile money payment solutions, Africa’s Talking software developer business took off. The company turned profitable after only 1 year of operations. Africa’s Talking helps the growing software developer community across the continent integrate into the telecoms infrastructure by simplifying the required processes and technologies. It offers APIs for short codes, payments, and communications, including bulk SMS, USSD, and voice. Africa’s Talking is in seven African markets with its hub based in Nairobi, Kenya. Last April, Sam and his team closed a $8.6mn fundraising round that was led by the IFC’s venture capital arm which Africa’s Talking will use to further its expansion, especially into Francophone West Africa. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Sam who’s a real thought leader in Africa’s tech space. Make sure you listen to our entire chat. He explains why he’s bullish on Ethiopia, why capital is overrated in the early stages of a startup, and why he advocates sharpening your toolkit before diving headfirst into entrepreneurship. Without further ado, here’s my conversation with Sam Gikandi.

This week on WPwatercooler we'll be be discussing the differences between responsive websites, mobile plugins that make a site mobile friendly and 3rd party sites providing a mobile website.Show airs August 29 at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 7PM UTC[LISTATTENDEES event_identifier=”ep202-mobile-solutions-for-wordpress-websites-5-57c37666a7cc7″ show_gravatar=”true”] See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this episode of WPwatercooler we will be discussing mobile solutions for WordPress, themes, apps and ways to integrate mobile with your project.Mobile solutionsStart by asking yourself what the purpose is? Define what the goal is, who your audience is, how will they be experiencing your website? If you’re serious about making your site responsive and mobile, start with Mobile First Design by A Book Apart It’ll get you thinking about how people will be interacting with your data and what they’ll likely be doing when accessing your content.Stop thinking about mobile versions of your site as an afterthought. Think about mobile first before you begin the design process.Know that they way people use a mobile site is different than how they do on a desktop. Just adding a responsive theme to your site is not going to cut it.Make sure your mobile site loads fast. No one will wait for your site to load when they’re on the go.The term “Mobile” means more than iPhone and Android. It means devices that sometimes don’t have color screen, javascript or css, gaming consoles and so on.25% of your audience will access your site ONLY from a mobile device and that percentage is rising.Track your stats so you know who’s trying to access your site and how. Gather data through analytics. One way to implement this is to make your desktop site blazingly fast. You can use picturefill and make sure the content is the main thin you’re seeing, not images and sidebars. On mobile you simply want to see content.Simple speed tricksHaving a caching plugin in place like WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache or something better if you have something like WP Engine.Adding a CDN such as Max CDN so images load as fast as possible.Aside from the web browser itself what are other ways for taking content from a WordPress interface and display it on a mobile environment?Appmaker.comredfoundry.com Both of those will take an rss feed or customized type of feed, and deliver them to an app that you can now use to deliver to an app store. For more advanced devsTitanium from AppceleratorPhonegap – These both take some programming know how. Some people will take a Json feed or an xml feed from your WordPress site and use something like phonegap which allows you to make a native app with HTML and Javascript and get your content into it that way. The problem with that is you still have to build a static site and all you’re doing is taking a feed from WordPress.AppPresser is a way to use all of the native WordPress plugins and themes and use that as a native app and you’re able to use things like the device camera, and the contacts etc… through WordPress using the skills you already have. You won’t have to get your hands dirty with native code.
