A Note from James:"So during COVID, every single day, I was doing a podcast because I felt there was so much misinformation in the mainstream media. Everyone was saying conspiracy theories, and nobody was getting the math right on how infections like COVID-19 spread. I just wanted to make the information more correct every day, explain what was going on, and try to translate why so much of the mainstream news was wrong—not just about COVID but about the effects on the economy from the shutdowns and the printing of trillions of dollars. Many of the things spoken about then have come to pass.On COVID, it was more of an attempt to understand what was unknown by the public, what were conspiracy theories, and what was misinformation. I tried to understand from a rational point of view what was going on. Rationality is not part of the mainstream media anymore. We're seeing this again with the Trump assassination attempt—on every side, by the way. This is not intended to be a political podcast, although I will talk about some of the politics involved. So, I want to go through what happened, some of the conspiracy theories about this kind of stuff in general, some of the history behind this, and perhaps we'll get into some more recent events. This is a news-filled week: just a few days after the assassination attempt is the nomination of JD Vance as the vice presidential candidate for the Republican party. It's a very historic event, and I will comment on that as well. But let's start with this assassination attempt."Episode Description:James breaks down the recent assassination attempt on former President and presidential candidate Donald Trump. He provides historical context, drawing parallels to past attempts on major political figures, and discusses the ensuing conspiracy theories from all sides of the political spectrum. Listeners will gain a clear, rational perspective on the events and their implications for the upcoming election and beyond. What You'll Learn:The historical context of assassination attempts on U.S. political figures. An analysis of conspiracy theories surrounding the Trump assassination attempt. The implications of the assassination attempt on the current political landscape. How media bias and misinformation shape public perception during political crises. The potential impact of this event on the upcoming presidential election and economic markets.Chapters:01:30 - Misinformation During COVID02:12 - Mainstream Media Rationality02:34 - Trump Assassination Attempt: An Overview03:33 - Historical Assassination Attempts: George Wallace and Theodore Roosevelt06:19 - Secret Service Protection Protocols10:15 - Conspiracy Theories Debunked17:02 - Secret Service and Political Bias25:08 - The Fallout: Public and Media Reactions28:08 - Trump's Response: "Fight, Fight, Fight"40:18 - Economic Impact: Bitcoin and Stock Market Reactions42:33 - JD Vance: A New VP Candidate47:26 - Reflections on Political PolarizationAdditional Resources:Hillbilly Elegy by JD VanceSecret Service Protocols and History ------------What do YOU think of the show? On Covid in Canada Just Before the Polls Close in France
Breitbart's Alex Marlow's new book is “Breaking Biden” focusing on the Biden brand of corruption and describes how the Biden family and Biden friends have been cutting deals with people overseas for years. They took advantage of a system not just to push an agenda. It was all secondary to money and power. The book is a deep discussion of what Biden got wrong, which is everything. On Covid, the govt. kept important information secret from the public, that masks don't work and treating healthy children the same way as immune compromised 75 year olds when the science wasn't there to back up his actions. On Ukraine, Marlow says besides Putin no one is more responsible for that war than Joe Biden. On our Afghanistan withdrawal, Joe went it alone. He was advised against it and still went ahead. Biden ended up droning a carful of children and killing 13 service members. It was impeachable from the start. Marlow says if we don't do something fast, we're going to lose this country because all of the things going on in every corner of the country. The way the Deep State is working with academia, with the Biden Administration to create networks to create more wealth and power, to be able to subvert disclosure, to create satellite legislatures around the country. That's not Democracy yet they're the ones who will act like we're the threat to Democracy. It's pure projection. They're the ones who don't like Democracy and subvert it, especially the Bidens. The reality is we're going up against a political movement, the American Left, the Marxist Left and they wake up, live, eat and breathe politics. They think protesting on a Sunday morning is far better than going to brunch. My guest today is Bryan Johnson, founder of Braintree that sold Venmo to PayPal/eBay for $800 million. After experiencing many years of deep depression Bryan decided to venture out on an intense experiment with his latest project blueprint and his newest company, Kernel. He has for the past two years been eating the same meals, taking 105 supplements each day, and doing the same physical training to create a non-disputable baseline. Bryan's hope is to see if he could get into optimal health but also turn back his chronological age. I asked Bryan how long this experiment will go on and his answer is "forever". A lot of people have an intense response to his experiment, but rather than dismissing it or throwing some superlatives at what he's doing, I thought it would be better to go in and try to understand and learn from him, his perspective. Bryan and his team at Kernel are collecting data, measuring over 200 health points, taking pictures of his organs, observing the brain under different circumstances and who knows maybe it's all information that can help us. Today, The Two Mikes welcomed Dr. John Droz to the show for the first time. John is a retired scientist -- a physicist, to be precise -- and gave us a lesson in how science is being destroyed in the United States. Scientists, he said, are meant to be a wall that blocks the advance of false and pseudo-science. The fundamental definition of science, he said, can be expressed in one word, "skepticism". In the past few decades, the progressives have all but killed the preeminent place that scientific skepticism must hold, and have replaced it with the issuance off dictatorial but false scientific assertions, such as we have seen during the entire COVID episode and in the blatant madness of the climate-change fanatics. On Covid, we all know that the vaccines do not work, they have not been fully tested, they do not prevent contagion, and they are killing people. On Climate, there is no true and rigorous scientific study that shows that cutting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will improve climate conditions, nor is there such a truly scientific study proving that industrial wind energy will satisfy what its backers have promised in terms of energy, but there is a study that shows the machinery for wind energy may well harm the environment. John also noted that 44 of America's state governments have accepted, in whole or in part, a plan -- called Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and sponsored by a teacher's union and other progressive groups -- that eliminates the teaching of the "scientific method" in grades K-through-12. In other words the NGSS plan is meant to kill the chances that students will acquire any semblance of instruction and practice of the scientific method and critical thinking in their primary education. They will learn to be unquestioningly obedient to authority and so never to become competent, commonsensical, and independent adults. John Droz was extremely frank and informative, and this paragraph only skims the surface of what he presented. In this episode, Doug Stuart was invited by Aaron Harris onto the Decentralized Revolution Podcast. Doug and Aaron spoke in depth about a number of topics relevant to libertarianism, Christianity, and speaking to the left about issues of concern to them. How do we present libertarianism to our leftist friends? They're concerned with things that are easy to write off, but to what end should write them off, and are we missing an opportunity? Stuart and Harris dive into some interesting topics including covid, love of neighbor, social sins (social justice), the Marxist tendency to weaponize people and ideas that actually need serious consideration, the destruction of the family, democracy, and so much more. Johnson's premiership has been marked by various controversies about parliament. On COVID-19, the government was accused of overusing delegated powers – adding to already long-standing concerns in this area. Subsequently, some primary legislation has been rushed, and the relationship between whips and backbenchers often difficult. Most recently, the proposed fast-track procedures for amending Retained EU Law and on human rights risk further sidelining parliamentarians. How concerned should we be about these developments, and how best can parliament respond? 13 April 2022Good morning, good afternoon and good evening. On COVID-19, there's good news.Last week, the lowest number of COVID-19 deaths was recorded since the early days of the pandemic. However, some countries are still witnessing serious spikes in cases, which is putting pressure on hospitals. And our ability to monitor trends is compromised as testing has significantly reduced.
In our near-dystopian society, progress is measured by power. Dominance over nature, animals, and fellow humans has become synonymous with development. But is humanity's desire to ascend necessarily evil? In this episode, the great philosopher Charles Eisenstein joins me for a paradigm-shifting conversation. We immerse into the most daunting social and spiritual crises we face today and discuss why acquiring more power, money, wealth, and control isn't the way out. Also, we go into the power of narratives in influencing culture, how to redefine progress to honor our one-ness with nature, the true purpose of wealth, and what it means to live a genuinely good life. Charles Eisenstein is an intellectual, teacher, public speaker, and author of numerous essays and books, including "Sacred Economics," "Climate—A New Story," and "The More Beautiful World our Hearts Know is Possible." What we discuss: 00:00 - Introduction to Charles Eisenstein 2:30 - Why global problems aren't a matter of good vs. evil 8:00 - Using narrative as a form of power 13:00 - Sacred Economics, Capitalism, & Collective Miseries 17:30 - On COVID vaccine mandates & lockdowns 24:30 - Apathy & our quest for meaning in COVID times 35:00 - Transcending the Story of Separation 40:00 - What's the true purpose of wealth? 49:20 - Redefining human progress, and the secret to living a good life 53:00 - The ultimate key to advancing humanity Learn more from Charles Eisenstein: Website: https://charleseisenstein.org/ Instagram: @charles_eisenstein Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CharlesEisenstein-org Books: https://charleseisenstein.org/books/ Related links: The revised version of the Align Method book is now available with 22 brand-new exercises! He was also a writer for 24 years on the Academy Awards broadcast, spending 14 of those years (2000-2014) as the show's head writer. Vilanch collaborated with hosts including Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Steve Martin and, of course, James Franco and Anne Hathaway. In this episode of the Ankler Hot Seat podcast, a special bonus edition for Oscar week, Vilanch, who will be watching the Oscars with friends in New York City, joins hosts Janice Min and Richard Rushfield and reveals some of the secrets behind past broadcasts and his thoughts on the challenges of this year's 94th Academy Awards. Some highlights: On the overall vibe this year: “The basic landscape is a minefield…comedy generally is where you come out and you don't know who you're going to piss off with anything that you say…the second nervousness will be about proving to the membership, the Academy proving to the membership that this idea (of removing eight below the line awards from the broadcast) works.”On what went wrong last year: “It had no famous people in the first half-hour. They had Regina King, who came on and immediately went political. So right away people began tuning out because their worst fear had been realized. It was a bunch of political Hollywood types telling you things you know. Her first joke was a BLM joke, and that was it. In the first half-hour, they have, I think, Laura Dern and maybe one other famous person, rather than opening with one of the supporting actor categories, which is what we've always done, because it puts a personality on camera…Soderbergh's idea was to have Aaron Sorkin talk about what it was like to sell popcorn in the theater in Evanston, Illinois. No one gives a s**t about I mean, this is a rookie mistake.”On making Putin jokes: “A lot of people are dead. So I don't know that you can really joke about Putin. I mean, there might be some oblique jokes.”On COVID jokes: “There's a tension in the air because of all these super-spreader events…like BAFTA…I wrote the PGA Award show, and we started out with Ciarán Haines, Jamie Dornan and Kenneth Branagh and the kid and everybody wound up sick. Jamie Dornan ended up doing the presentation.”On the disastrous James Franco-Anne Hathaway year: “Franco was kind of off the wall and he was out of his comfort zone. He was scared. He didn't trust the writers. He asked Judd Apatow to come in and do it, and Judd sent four of his young intern writers and the week before the show, everything was tossed out because nothing was very good….we assumed that two songs from Burlesque would be nominated and that Cher would do one song and Christina Aguilera would do the other. But and as a result, Franco really wanted to do Cher. He does a Cher impression, and he just wanted to get into the whole Cher drag and do it. But then they weren't nominated, the songs were not performed, but he was caught up in the idea of drag. So we finally had him come out as Marilyn Monroe after what was one of the biggest laughs of that particular show.”The “dirty secret” of why the show is so long: “The dirty little secret is [ABC] doesn't really mind that because it gives them more commercial time to sell. And that's where the money is. And by the way, that's where the licensing fee goes up for the Academy. So the Academy doesn't really mind that the show is as long as it is this year. [But] because of last year they were read a riot act about it's got to come in short, and also I think because they were getting some sponsor…pushback.”Being Oscar producer: “You cannot win.” On “woke: culture: “The latest wrinkle is the woke madness…they're so crazed and they're eating their own, you know, they're just eating their young and nuts. It's just nuts.”Why no one wants to host the Oscars: “If you're big enough to be considered to host, you don't need it” Ratings prediction: “I mean, it certainly will be the the second-lowest broadcast ever.” Related: Jay-Z's Oscar Afterparty DebacleSee you tomorrow with our regular Ankler Hot Seat podcast. Global diplomacy kicked-off in the New Year with the World Economic Forum's Davos Agenda 2022. This week, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a special ‘State of the World' address at the Davos Agenda via videoconferencing. Chinese President Xi Jinping also addressed the Summit. Let's look at some of the key points raised by both leaders. On Covid, Modi highlighted India's achievements of having administered 160 crore vaccine doses, adding that a democracy such as India, “has given the world a bouquet of hope. Modi hailed India as the “pharmacy of the world”, while also praising the digital infrastructure built by his government to deal with the pandemic, mentioning contact tracing apps “Aarogya Setu” and “CoWin”. On the reforms front, Modi talked about his government's achievements in having deregulated several sectors like drones, space, geospatial mapping. “India has carried out big reforms in the outdated telecom sector,” the Indian PM added. Modi hailed India's entrepreneurial talent, mentioning that the country now has more than 60,000 registered startups and over 80 unicorns, of which, 42 entered the club last year itself. He also pitched India as an investment destination for the world. Meanwhile, Xi stressed more on the challenges that the world faces amid the pandemic. He spoke about ensuring the equitable distribution of vaccines among countries, and said that China has already delivered 2 billion doses of vaccines to 120 countries and will further contribute another 1 billion doses to African countries. On the challenge of ensuring economic recovery of the world economy, Xi said, the global industrial and supply chains have been disrupted. There can be serious negative spillovers if major economies take U-turn in monetary policies. Amid heightened tensions between the US and China over Taiwan, and amid fears of a possible Russian intervention in Ukraine, Xi said the world needs to discard Cold War mentality, as acts of containment, suppression or confrontation are harmful. Hailing his country's economic growth, Xi Jinping talked about the 8% growth in China's GDP in 2021, and the importance of bettering economic and trade ties with other countries through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement or RCEP. Clearly, both the leaders had different perspectives and standpoints, which meant that they stressed somewhat different themes. However, at the same time, there was some similarity in their approaches to the challenges of the day, particularly as far as the importance of multilateralism is concerned.

Andy McDonald, Labour MP for Middlesbrough, is calling for Boris Johnson to resign over lockdown parties, adding that the Metropolitan Police cannot side-step an investigation of Number 10. He tells Bloomberg Westminster's Caroline Hepker and Yuan Potts he will vote in favor of the Government's 'Plan B' Covid restrictions despite how un-British some restrictions are. On Covid vaccines, Leyla Hannbeck, CEO of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies says her members have delivered 16 million doses and are identifying unvaccinated people, but says there is too much red tape. Finally, something we can agree on. Ahmaud Arbery's murders were found guilty. We get more into that theory. We also talk about Biden's failed optimism. He just doesn't have it nor does he ever seem genuine. On COVID, we have some more gems from Dr. Anthony Fauci and more COVID failures to discuss. Join us. And Happy Thanksgiving!
How could Melissa Clark-Reynolds ONZM predict the pandemic collapse of seaports in the US? And Why is your board bad at strategy?—If you can answer these two questions, your firm would be much better off. This is only part of the full episode that is available on Business Games Premium's private podcast feed. Breaking News (at the time)—Omicron!A note about the new Omicron variant of Covid discovered in South Africa in November 2021. We recorded this episode with Melissa in early 2021, a good 6 months before the news broke about the new variant B.1.1.529 that later got the name Omicron. With Melissa, we talked about many things on predictions, the central topic being how she was one of the first within the business community to have predicted the coming pandemic. We covered what a foresight professional should do, and how to predict the next pandemic—including some signs that she was monitoring in early-mid-2021 when she had concerns that there could be something else popping up in late 2021. We put up this episode on Monday the 22nd November. On Thursday the 25th, the news broke about the variant B.1.1.529. Revisiting this episode, it is startling how ever more relevant the content is. Now, normally, we only release full episodes to Premium Members. This particular episode was available in full for almost a week now, and I communicated on social media that I'd be removing the full episode from the public feed. We live in a society enamored with divisions, but Nicholas Christakis lives by the outlandish idea that humans are fundamentally similar — and has devoted much of his career to uncovering the universals of social experience. (He's a lumper, not a splitter.) The Yale professor and author of many books — including Blueprint and Apollo's Arrow — unpacks his fascinating findings in evolutionary biology, describes the price we pay for the spread of ideas (namely, germs), and reflects on that now infamous moment on the Yale quad six years ago.Find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podcast Addict, and Stitcher. On Covid and the end of the end of history. Adam Tooze joins us to discuss his new book, Shutdown. In 2020 everything changed... so that everything might remain the same. What were the reasons behind the global shutdown? Was it a result of over-protection, a policy of repression, or the result of structural tensions? Has China been the winner of the pandemic? How have central banks been victims of their own success? And does this represent the end of neoliberalism? The latter part of the interview continues over on patreon.com/bungacast

Mail from National Grid, my electric utility provider, is never the first letter I open. I don't look forward to reading it. This week's communication, however, made me smile. It was an “energy report” which advised me that, as compared with the same period last year, my energy consumption had gone down 34%. Instead of wildly outstripping my neighbors in energy usage, I am now using 1% less energy than comparably sized houses in the vicinity. I loved this energy report. I realize I shouldn't go too wild patting myself on the back. Paring back to just average in our energy guzzling country is surely nothing to brag about. Also, in the comparable period last year, when we were still in COVID induced semi-lockdown, there were four full time residents of this house. This year there was just me. It would have been outrageous had I not saved energy. But then, I've had a constant stream of house guests this summer, so maybe the head count has not been so different. And I'd like to think that my own efforts contributed something to the energy saving trend. For example, following the example of my friend Eric, I now do laundry on sunny breezy days when I can hang the wash out on the line, rather than just reflexively using the clothes dryer. I'm using less freezer space. I'm conscious about lights. This small bit of progress in reducing my carbon footprint does suggest just how much savings might be had with fairly minimal efforts and shifts in our consciousness. If I got really ambitious, I have no doubt I could reduce my usage another third still without affecting my quality of life. The question is how I convince myself that this is worth the effort. How do I answer the two ever-lurking questions, “Why bother?” and “What's in it for me?” I call these ever-lurking questions because they seem to be the confounding ones in our current political struggles over the major questions of the day, the twin crises of COVID and climate change. “Why bother?” This presents the question of whether my efforts will be effective. Aren't the forces of climate change so global in magnitude that my small gestures mean nothing? The same with COVID. With so many people engaging in high exposure, high risk social encounters in bars, will my wearing a mask as I pass someone casually in the supermarket really reduce transmission? On COVID, leaders like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have obstructed mask requirements, cheap and minimally intrusive measures to protect the public health. DeSantis, a supposed fiscal conservative , has proposed instead distributing the extraordinarily expensive medicine remdesevir to those with early illness as the principle way to fight the COVID epidemic. His answer to “why bother?” is that there is no reason to take collective measures to stop the spread of the illness. Regarding climate change, the Washington Post reported this week that many Republican leaders now acknowledge the role of human fossil fuel use in climate change, yet they still argue that we should not reduce our usage. Instead, they advocate developing as yet undiscovered technologies to deal with the effects of their use. Again they see no reason to bother fighting the change itself. It seems to me these folks are missing that the small actions of individuals collectively can effect change on a massive scale. Viral transmission grows exponentially in an epidemic because if one person transmits a virus to two, those two will in turn transmit it to four, and so on. Each interruption in the chain of transmission can have a significant downstream effect. It's like weeding the garden. It may seem overwhelming in that weeds always grow back, but if you pull them by the roots or interrupt their chain of reproduction, the plants you want to encourage are given a chance, and can do some of the work of shading out the next generation of weeds. Cumulative, downstream effect. That's “why bother.” “What's in it for me?” assumes that our actions could have some effect, but questions whether we should be asked to expend efforts for the collective good when the direct individual benefit to us is not visible. I have “weathered” climate change to date, even benefited a bit as the historically severe Hudson Valley winters have become milder. The most potentially disastrous effects of climate change are all projected to take effect twenty or thirty years from now, when I am unlikely still to be alive. If stuff happens after I'm gone, good or bad, why should I care? I cannot pretend to moral superiority. I don't act out of worry about what the world will be like for abstract future generations. But I think I perceive a pay-off from sacrificing individual comforts and prerogatives that DeSantis and his spiritual soul mates do not perceive. On the most fundamental level, living on the farm has given me a sense that I am part of a larger energy system. My role, like that of any other organism on earth, is to consume and produce energy as part of a cosmic order. If my life has a meaning, it is as a cog in that machine. A friend asked me recently why I would plant a small sapling that I may never live to see give shade, when I could buy a more mature tree to sit under right now. I answered that I like being the nurturer of that small sapling, as part of the cycle of life, which if I'm still around 15 years from now I can take a little credit for. If my meaning is derived from that role, then keeping the machine operating well through environmental stewardship is a high form of reward. Taking a less cosmic and more human perspective, I have two competing psychic needs — a need to see myself as a unique autonomous individual, but also a need to be part of the collective. Humans are herd animals who like to belong. I don't enjoy wearing the mask, but when I go out in public I like feeling like part of a mask-wearing team that's all pulling together for something positive, like ending this stupid pandemic. Those in the “give me liberty and give me death camp” might label me insufficiently protective of my individual autonomy, and call me a sheep. Feh. To a shepherd, that's not an insult. This week, the team chats with the founder of the ONCanadaProject, Samanta Krishnapillai. Samanta began this project shortly into the pandemic as she was frustrated with the lack of information regarding COVID-19 that was available for Millennials and Gen Z. The instagram page began as the On COVID-19 Project in June 2020 to focus on providing guidance and education on best practices and access to assistance. The page instantly gained traction and currently sits at over 115k followers on IG. Samanta felt that it was only right to continue being a platform for Millennials and Gen Z followers and converted the page to the ONCanadaProject, which aims to provide valuable Canadian information that this generation requires to compassionately disrupt the status quo.
On this Episode:THE SERVANT LEADERSHIP TREND IS A BIBLICAL ONE (0:00-7:05)With books like "Leaders Eat Last" and business schools teaching "servant leadership," it is worth noting that the entire idea is one Jesus gave us. Greatness through service is a Jesus-taught concept. Even in an unbelieving world, when Biblical practices and values are enacted, it's good and right for human flourishing.DID JESUS LOVE THE POOR OUTSIDER MORE? (7:05-15:45)I heard a sermon recently from a typically incredible Bible teacher that was not INCORRECT -- it was incomplete. It seemed to allege that Jesus pursued and valued the culturally marginalized BECAUSE of their lowly estate. That's not true, though.Cultural obscurity and personal weakness it EASIER for people to see their own need for a redeemer. The rich and powerful struggle to see their own problem. Both, however, come to Jesus totally by his grace alone -- not their earthly status.I LOVE THIS NEW SPACE RACE (15:45-33:58)I saw some folks -- typically Leftists -- bemoaning that billionaires are spending their money on space exploration instead of ... . To be kind, it's childish, short-sighted thinking -- on top of it being insanely arrogant to think they know better how to spend SOMEONE ELSE'S money.Let me talk you through how the unintended inventions and developments from space exploration are going to make ALL our lives better in the coming decades. Let me further explain how this new space race is being funded by the virtuous circle of commerce where consumers get what they want, producers makes profit, and then use that profit to explore -- instead of the government just taking our money to do it.7 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHOW (33:58-35:40)Next week is the seven-year anniversary of my show. You didn't get me anything? That's fine. It's fine. No big deal.LISTENER QUESTION: SHOULD WOMEN BE INCLUDED IN SELECTIVE SERVICE (THE DRAFT) (35:40-39:45)I'm coming to the conclusion that in the West, war between humans might be obsolete. From here on, it's most likely that our machines will battle other machines, and humans will control those machines from many miles away -- out of harms way. It is an immoral people that would have women fight their wars. However, if we're going to have a draft at all, women could contribute in non-combat roles.SECESSION IS MORE POPULAR THAN ANYTIME IN THE MODERN ERA (39:55-45:08)Leftists, conservatives, and centrists alike have a higher approval of secession than ever in a recent poll. I hope the country is coming to the conclusion I came to ten years ago: one city and one set of laws shouldn't apply to us all.Secession, in my opinion, should not be a radical idea. Britain just left the EU. Likewise, it shouldn't be a crazy idea for California or Texas to leave the union.THE LEFT EMBRACE PERSONAL RESPONSBILITY FOR THE FIRST TIME -- BUT ONLY ON COVID (45:08-end)Leftism largely does not want to allow people to feel the consequences of their own actions. However, there's been a recent exception. On Covid and Covid alone, the Left demonstrate the importance of personal responsibility. I'll elaborate.

EP. 193 | 22JUL21 | Biden says Facebook kills people. Shame in the PD. Every child left behind. A WOLF AMONG US AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE SHEPHERD Former Fairfax County Police Officer, John Grimes, was indicted on Monday for allegedly engaging in sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old girl who was part of the Public Safety Cadet Program in 2019. Grimes was charged with three counts of custodial indecent liberties. “I have no pity for Grimes. He took advantage of a teenager, and he did so in and out of a Fairfax County Police Uniform,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said during a press conference on Tuesday. My wife had a chance to speak to a couple of officers about this and my take. EVERY CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT This week, Texas became the first state to publish a full set of student test scores for this past school year. This provides an early look at what we might expect to see across the country after over a year of pandemic schooling. The news was not good… and darn skippy I am going to tell you all about it tonight. I PROMISE THIS IS THE LAST TIME… TODAY "They're killing people." That was the simple declarative sentence President Joe Biden uttered in response to a question a reporter asked him as he left the White House on Friday. "On COVID misinformation, what's your message to platforms like Facebook?" the reporter had shouted as the president was walking toward Marine One. Biden turned and walked directly toward the reporter. "They're killing people," he said. How censorship is taking place right under our noses. We were really delighted that Richard Dawkins agreed to come on LockdownTV to discuss “Scientism” and his new anthology of writing about science literature, Books do furnish a Life.It turns out that Mr Dawkins' view of “Scientism” is that it is a “dirty word used by people who are critical of scientists” — so that was a relatively brief part of the conversation. On Covid, he is not especially worried about the boundaries of politics and science becoming blurred, but feels that “science is the way to discover the right answer to anything about the real world — and that, of course, includes how to deal with a serious epidemic.” Vaccination and mask-wearing is “not a matter of a set of self interest” it is a “moral responsibility.”Our thanks to Richard Dawkins for sharing his thoughts. For more read The Post from UnHerd See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this week's podcasts discussion, Wally and Paul talk about Mark Moores getting clobbered 63% to 33% in the Congressional District 1 race; What went wrong? What does it mean? What does it mean for redistricting? Paul gives "props" to Mayor Tim Keller for vetoing Albuquerque's gas tax; On COVID 19, all New Mexico counties are now in turquoise An Albuquerque Journal sports reporter had an important article over the weekend on Gov. Lujan Grisham's ongoing policy of demanding athletes wear masks in New Mexico. In continuing the sports theme, golfer Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw from the Memorial golf tournament over the weekend due to a positive COVID test and despite having no symptoms. Rahm was leading by a robust 6 strokes. Paul provides a brief update on the ongoing CYFD story; Thankfully Fauci didn't delete emails like MLG has been. With half of all US states (all of them GOP-led) rejecting “$300 supplemental” unemployment benefits, the Federal Reserve indicates the policy is likely to get people back to work. The La Luz trail race is forced to cease. This makes radical environmentalists happy. Craziness ensues at two local campaign events. Mayoral candidate Manny Gonzales' event was disrupted by a drone outfitted with a sex toy followed by a physical attack. Gov. MLG (at her campaign launch) suffered taunts and protests. She then called her opponents lizard people & Q'Anon.

Tamler Sommers, philosopher and co-host of Very Bad Wizards, joins us just a few days after the insurrection on the Capitol to explain how we got here (spoiler alert: liberalism's over-emphasis on individualism and dignity seriously failed us). He also walks us through some of the controversial arguments in his book — Why Honor Matters — and describes the ways in which honor cultures actually have a lot to teach us (especially in these crazy Covid times) about courage, community, and responsibility. On the agenda:Diagnosing Trump's armyHonor: What is it? With the Grand Reopening leading inevitably to the Great Re-Locking, is No.10's rule-by-snappy-slogan no longer fit for purpose? Has Boris Johnson's back-scratching Dissolution Honours finally made Lords Reform inevitable – and should we fear a shake-up if it happens? And our special guest, former minister and rebellious leader of the Gaukward Squad David Gauke, gives perhaps the most entertaining account of losing an election we've heard… and speculates if we'll ever see one-nation Conservatism ever again. “On COVID, the British public seem to be far more sanguine than writers for mid-market tabloids.” – Ian Dunt“If you're a Muslim, your mum starts cooking for Eid three days ahead… And that late lockdown made Muslims feel really unvalued.” – Ayesha Hazarika“There's been too many occasions where the Prime Minister has been too keen to deliver good news that turns out not to be correct… and that undermines trust.” – David Gauke“Everybody talks about Lords reform until they become leader.” - Ayesha Hazarika“Even as an ex-MP I was bombarded with angry emails saying Dominic Cummings should go.” – David GaukePresented by Dorian Lynskey with Ayesha Hazarika and Ian Dunt.
