In discussion with Rob Feltham, Ross McIntosh provides a fascinating overview of the ACT framework and how it can help leaders to build psychological flexibility, in part by managing the interactions between their ‘inner voices' and the ways that they show up at work. Topics covered include: building self awareness with the help of the Micro Pause and Macro Pause; managing transitions between leadership situations; and values-driven authentic leadership.  Ross is a business psychologist and coach who uses evidence-based psychology in all areas of his freelance career. At City St George's, University of London, he works alongside Dr Paul Flaxman in an academic/practitioner partnership. They design and deliver ACT Workplace Training for both the public and private sector. Was nicht? [SUSPEKT](https://www.riffraff-houdini.ch/de-ch/film/suspekt.html) – seit 20. Februar im Kino. Welcome to “The Next Round,” where we explore the remarkable stories of those who found new beginnings once they stopped seeking answers at the bottom of the bottle. Today's episode is a reflection on recovery, redemption, and the power of turning the past into a foundation for the future. For some, the journey to the other side can feel like a wall between who they were and who they've become. But perhaps, just perhaps, the life they once lived holds the key to the one they're building now.In this episode, we meet Paul Bayes Kitcher, a man who never lost his love for dance. On the other side of recovery, he found himself uniquely placed to channel its transformative power—helping others navigate their own recoveries from addiction or mental health challenges through movement and artistry.Along with Claire Morris he co-founded Fallen Angels Dance Theatre (FADT) in 2011, fostering creativity and using dance to transform lives. In this podcast Josh Kelly, our brand manager who himself used to be a dancer interviews Paul. He shares his story, the life-changing work of his organisation, offering a future through dance. It's a story of resilience, creativity, and the beautiful steps forward when we reclaim what once felt lost. Find out more  you how you can join them or support their work by becoming a guardian angel.Fallen Angels Dance Theatre (FADT) has become a powerful symbol of transformation and hope, helping individuals in recovery from addiction and trauma reconnect with their bodies and rediscover joy. Founded by Paul Byers Kitchen, a former professional ballet dancer and someone in long-term recovery, FADT merges the therapeutic power of movement with the artistic discipline of dance. Over the past decade, it has grown into a flourishing community, offering a safe and creative space for people to heal and thrive.A Journey from Ballet to RecoveryPaul's story is one of both brilliance and struggle. Trained at world-renowned institutions such as the Royal Ballet School and Rambert, he had a successful career with companies like Scottish Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Yet behind the scenes, unresolved childhood trauma and the relentless pressures of the ballet world led him into addiction.“I never felt comfortable in my own skin – Alcohol and drugs became my solution—a way to escape myself.”Despite his talent and dedication, the demands of perfectionism combined with his personal struggles led him to resign from Birmingham Royal Ballet at 30. Without the structure of his career, his addiction spiraled into chaos.Through recovery, Paul found clarity and purpose. He realised the therapeutic potential of movement for people in recovery and began developing what would eventually become Fallen Angels Dance Theatre. The Birth of Fallen Angels Dance TheatreEstablished over 10 years ago, FADT was born from Paul's passion for recovery and his deep understanding of movement. Recognising that the word “dance” might intimidate some, particularly those unfamiliar with formal training, Paul instead emphasizes “movement.”“Everyone can move. We start with natural movement and somatic practices, creating a space where people feel safe to explore their bodies and emotions.”Read the full blog   Find Club Soda:The Club Soda Tasting Room is at 39 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5RRFind us on Instagram

In this episode of Why Dance Matters, we revisit a conversation from October 2022, in tribute to the poet, performer and activist Benjamin Zephaniah, who died earlier this month. As a performance poet he gave words a glorious physical form, his rhythms dancing from line to line. He had also provided a voiceover for Rambert's dance version of the hit tv series Peaky Blinders. In our conversation, Benjamin was impressively candid about his journey, richly reflective about poetry, and also emotionally generous – unexpectedly moved when speaking about the generations of readers who have been touched and shaped by his work.Find out more about the work of the RADFollow the RAD on social media and join the conversation with host David Jays:Instagram @royalacademyofdanceFacebook @RoyalAcademyofDanceTwitter @RADheadquartersYouTube / royalacademydanceDavid Jays @mrdavidjaysSign up to our mailing list to keep in touch!RAD is an independent educational charity and does not receive regular government funding. With many going for export, the bulls have undergone strict tests, not just for weight and muscle but also genomics and temperament. We also hear the differences in beef consummation between France and its neighbouring countries, particularly around eating older animals

I had the great pleasure of meeting Simon Sinek the other week. He was doing a speaking engagement at the Royal Festival Hall in London with Steven Bartlett, raising funds for a new piece of choreography for Rambert, where I'm involved as a board member. We were talking about my idea of ‘Alone, With Others' – that sense of it being just you in the midst of the maelstrom. Most of us are lucky enough to have people around us who love us, care for us, support us, mentor us and are simply there for us when we need them. But at a moment of remarkable clarity when you suddenly figure out the path ahead, there is often this overwhelming sense of ‘it's just me, here in this moment.' What others think, what others believe, that pales into the background. Like a macro zoom lens, what's in the periphery fades away and what's in sharp, sharp focus is me. Who I am. What I know. What I choose. It's today's Box of Keys episode, here on The Unlock Moment.--Dr Gary Crotaz, PhD: https://garycrotaz.com

Siobhan Davies is a contemporary dance pioneer who has witnessed and contributed to the development of the British dance scene over the past 50 years. Having originally studied visual arts, Siobhan discovered contemporary dance in 1967, when she began to take classes with the Contemporary Dance Group, which later became London Contemporary Dance Theatre. In 1969, she started performing with the company, and by the seventies she was choreographing for them. Siobhan has had many different chapters of her career, from joining forces with Richard Alston and Ian Spink to form Second Stride, one of the most influential independent British contemporary dance companies of the 1980s, to taking a year's sabbatical in America on a Fulbright Arts Fellowship, from working as an Associate Choreographer for Rambert to founding the Siobhan Davies Dance Company. Siobhan's work is marked by her interest in presenting dance in visual art and gallery spaces, and throughout her career she has worked with venues including Victoria Miro Gallery, the ICA, the Whitworth Gallery, Glasgow Museum of Modern Art, and Turner Contemporary. In the mid 2000s, she opened Siobhan Davies Studios in South London, a base for her research that has become a place not only of dance activity but of traffic between dance and other fields. Two years ago, Siobhan stepped down as artistic director of Siobhan Davies Studios. Since then she's been busy with various personal projects, from being appointed as an Associate Professor at C-dare Coventry University to traveling as an artist to the High Arctic with the Environmental organization Cape Farewell. She's also created ‘Transparent', a film that unravels the complex processes underpinning her 50 years of work in dance. Premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, the film is going to be shown at Sadler's Wells on 20th April and will be followed by a post show talk. Ahead of the screening, I couldn't wait to speak to Siobhan to find out what we can expect, reflect on her extensive career, and discuss her plans for the future.

This week we're talking about the exciting opera and dance coming up in time for Christmas. Annilese Miskimmon, Artistic Director at ENO (English National Opera), tells us about re-imagining Frank Capra's enduring and much-loved 1946 Christmas movie ‘It's a Wonderful Life' as an opera, which opens on 25th November at the Coliseum. Adapted by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, George Bailey, the down-on-his-luck banker so memorably played by James Stewart in the film, is played by Frederick Ballentine but Clarence the Guardian Angel now becomes Clara, played by soprano Danielle de Niese. Other than the gender swap, the opera is otherwise remarkably faithful to the beloved film and is certain to be a festive treat. In the world of dance, Rambert is already wowing audiences with its adaptation of Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, which opened at the Birmingham Hippodrome and is now on tour and in London at Troubador Wembley Park till 6th November. We're thrilled to be talking to the creator, writer and Executive Producer of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, alongside Helen Shute of Rambert. We find out that Steven's always loved ballet and so it was a natural progression to ask him to adapt his multi-award-winning series into a dance theatre show. Tune in to hear how the opera and dance worlds are bursting with innovation and new ideas, including the first-ever football opera Gods of the Game at the Theatre in the Woods at Grange Park Opera, complete with a chorus made up entirely of footy fans who've been trained to sing.

Today I am speaking with the Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company, Rafael  Bonachela. Rafael grew up in the small town of La Garriga near Barcelona in Spain, the eldest of 4 brothers. With no dance school in the town, the young Rafael would instead create dances for himself and his classmates, before at 15, being allowed to take the train to Barcelona to take his first dance class. It was a pivotal moment - both a star and a passion was born. By 17 he was offered a professional contract and was travelling Europe as a contemporary dancer. But rather than continue on that trajectory, Rafael wanted to hone his craft, and decided to return to the studio to train, he moved to London and trained with London Studio Centre. From here, Rafael's world exploded - with dance, with love, and with creating movement—which now had a name, choreography. In this beautifully intimate and joyful interview, Rafael talks about his early years in Spain, bullying, coming out in London just as AIDS had arrived on the scene, losing hair, finding love, life and choreography and living out his dreams. But more than that, Rafael talks about how he came to accept the position of Artistic Director with Sydney Dance Company, what he looks for in selecting dancers and how he has turned Sydney Dance Company into a powerhouse of contemporary dance in Australia, recognised across the globe.Rafael continues to lead the Sydney Dance Company. The Company is now back on the stage and touring "Impermanence," the work Rafael created during COVID.
