Keith Robinson of Kaua`i comes from a multi-generational, large land-owning family who has been in Hawai`i for more than 200 years. The Robinsons (descendants of the Sinclairs) owned and operated sugar plantations and cattle ranches across many thousands of acres in Kaua`i, including the entire island of Ni`ihau. A self-described "black sheep", Keith's varied interests range from Ni`ihau defense operations, to ranching and native plant restoration. His passion is as a one-man operation in growing, planting and helping to sustain in some cases rare plant species across Robinson-owned land. He shares his unusual upbringing, as well as his controversial views related to public versus private stewardship of rare species.

Is there a better punk rock name than Rat Scabies? When drummer Chris Millar picked that pseudonym and took up with the legendary Damned, he solidified his legacy in rock royalty. Along with his decades with the Damned, Rat has also always had several side projects going on. These days, one of his main focuses is The Sinclairs, his collaboration with guitarist Billy Shinbone. The sound is a beautiful blend of surf rock and hazy blues and psychedelia. They just released their second album, The Long Slow Death of a Cigarette. Here, Rat and I discuss how he manages his time with his many side-projects, the legacy of the Damned, including his thoughts on their excellent documentary, Don't You Wish That We Were Dead, their evolution of sound, and much more. Between last episode, setting the foundation, and this episode, this is the first time we've been to the Northern Isles (in this case Orkney) since I started this podcast! It's always fun to try new things. You know what's not fun, Sinclairs fighting Sinclairs and a mother accidentally killing her son. In these respects, the Battle of Summerdale was truly a tragic event. Let's get to know a little bit about the Sinclairs and lay the foundation for the story of the Battle of Summerdale. The Sinclairs are a really interesting clan that controlled a large territory in the far north of Scotland as the Earls of Caithness. They had other branches of the family. How did these branches interact with each other? Were they a cohesive unit, who all acknowledged the same chief? He was the last keeper of the famous Sinclair study centre specialising in the history of the Sinclairs and Gunns and their sea going exploration, 2016. Similarly, Shawn was also the researcher to Dr Andrew Sinclair who wrote The Sword and the Grail, Rosslyn, The Secret Scroll and many more concerning the Templars. Literatur: Upton Sinclair: Der Dschungel, Unionsverlag. In February of 2001, the calm in small town Chesterfield, New Hampshire was disrupted by an investigation carried out by New Hampshire State Police. Mother and daughter Tina and Bethany Sinclair were nowhere to be found. Though the two missing Sinclairs were the focus of the small community that year, over time, updates became fewer and farther between. Eventually, the cold weather made searches of the waterways surrounding the town next to impossible. The investigation stalled out. But Tina and Bethany Sinclair are far from forgotten. The case remains open. Answers are out there. This episode was researched and written by Natalie Jones with additional writing, production and editing by Kylie Low. Professor and The Madman - "Christmas Eve" from the 2018 album Disintegrate Me on Fullertone Records. This week, we are featuring Christmas-themed songs selected byBrian Foss, one of the hosts of KEXPs punk showSonic Reducer, lover of off-brand holiday tunes, and owner of pants. Brian has been doing a punk rock Christmas special every year since 2004 and has been a Christmas Day on-air DJ since 2012. No standards are played, only original X-Mess songs, most with a humorous bent. Hear him this holiday season from 12-7 PM PT on Friday, December 25th, and get even more seasonal songs on his 17th annual Punk Rock Christmas show on Sonic Reducer, available in KEXP's two-week Streaming Archive (scroll down to the December 20th show). Brian says: Over their two full length albums Professor and the Madman show to be masters of writing strong pop hooks. The funny thing is the band is made up of old school punk veterans and even though there is some punch in their music, PATM prefers to focus on melody as opposed to aggression. Writing a story about becoming homeless on Christmas Eve, the band shows off their deft songwriting ability and biting lyrics in todays pick. Professor and the Madman is: Alfie Agnew - vocals/guitar/keyboards (Adolescents, D.I.) Sean Elliott – vocals/guitar/keyboards (D.I., Mind Over Four) Paul Gray – bass (The Damned, Eddie & The Hot Rods, UFO) Rat Scabies – drums (One Thousand Motels, The Sinclairs, The Damned) Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

June 7th, 2020: "A Conversation on Race" - Robert Green & The Sinclairs by Fondren Church
It's the end of the world as the Sinclairs knew it on the series finale of ABC's muppety Dinosaurs show. My friend said it would be a real accomplishment to talk about Dinosaurs without saying "not the momma," but he said that long after we recorded this and said "not the momma" already. That baby was cute and had catchphrases because catchphrases are all that matter in American media. Joe's back from his Christmas trip. I yelled at my mother-in-law in a Kroger parking lot because she wanted me to eat cheese. Then I watched wrestling & drank a bottle of wine. None of that has anything to do with this episode of Booyah, if that matters to you. You don't have to read this, you know. You can just listen. We appreciate you either way. booyahpodcast@gmail.com // 857-626-6924 It was like 16 years of ongoing frustration just burst out over some low-fat cheddar.

Was war zuerst?

The men, women and beasts aboard Noah’s Ark almost certainly were drunk a lot of those 40 days and 40 nights, according to Thomas R. Sinclair, a professor of Crop Science at North Carolina State University, and his wife Carol Janas Sinclair, a researcher, the authors of Bread, Beer and the Seeds of Change (CABI, 2010). “Noah was a beer trader on the Euphrates River,” Professor Sinclair said. The book manages to link man’s thirst for beer with nearly every important moment in history, from the invention of democracy in ancient Greece to the advent of the industrial revolution. As to Noah, the Sinclairs argue as do many historians that the Biblical story of a man in a boat surviving a great flood probably stems from an earlier Sumerian tale. Because good clean water was very hard to find in ancient civilizations, many people regularly drank a form of beer made from grain soaked in water and fermented. The alcohol killed the pathogens in the water. (Hops were a later addition in the middle ages). Noah was most likely selling kegs of beer from his boat in ancient Sumeria, the Sinclairs told me in the hourlong interview posted here. “His boat was caught was in one of those flash floods and taken out to the Persian Gulf and there he floated for 40 days. And of course he had to have some animals in there and some family members and barrels of beer, critically, so they could survive those 40 days. The classical story never does tell you what they drank for those 40 days. They had to have that beer. The people of the time wouldn’t drink water.” Noah? Original Noah, the guy from the Bible who built an ark and floated around for 40 days with lots of animals — was a really a beer trader? “Yes,” Ms. Sinclair said. “The precursor of that story probably was a beer trader in Sumeria.” The book also contains a recipe George Washington used for beer, and a Sumerian drinking song from the Third Millennium B.C.E. Add your own music and you might just be singing what Noah sang to his pairs of sheep and goats. What makes your heart feel wonderful Makes (also) our heart feel wonderful Our liver is happy, our heart is joyful I will make cupbearers, boys (and) brewers stand by, While I turn around an abundance of beer, Drinking beer, in a blissful mood, Drinking liquor, feeling exhilarated With joy in the heart (and) a happy liver. Modern medical science would quibble with how happy beer makes the liver, but the Sinclairs don’t mind. Since their book has come out, they have become a strange pair of crossover academic stars, being asked to appear at beer festivals across the country. The only place they’ve met trouble is Harvard, where students who now idealize the farming lifestyle do not cotton to the book’s portrayal of the farming life as much duller and less fulfilling than the lives lived by early hunter-gatherers. The only thing that broke up the drudgery of farming, the authors say, is the very stuff that caused man to give up the relatively carefree hunter-gather lifestyle in the first place, the desire to brew mood-altering substances. Farming made the widespread production of beer possible and beer made farming tolerable. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
