Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:    Lara: Hi, dr. C, hope you and your family are well.. I saw some recipes for date seed coffee.. is it healthy to grind date seeds and make “coffee” out of them? Secondly, I was checking your resources and haven't found what you recommend for baking powder.. which are the acceptable ingredients? Which ones should we watch out for? Also, which ingredients to make a blend of gluten free flour? They usually contain xantan gum and tapioca starch or flour.. is cassava flour ok? What else? It would be so helpful if you did a list of foods and ingredients that are ok/not ok.. Thank you for being such an amazing encyclopaedia of information.. you are an amazing soul..   Samantha: Hi doctor Cabral, I love eating very spicy food, but sometimes it can leave my esophagus and throat feeling raw and irritated for days. And now I'm worried about a claim I heard that eating too much spicy food can increase the risk of stomach cancer due to the acid reflux. What are your about this? Thanks so much, I really appreciate you   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral. I recently had hernia surgery where they repaired 4 hernias in my abdomen and placed a mesh panel from my sternum down to my bellybutton to prevent future hernias. I was under general anesthesia for three hours and was on pain medication including Advil for two weeks. After surgery I'm having extreme stomach and intestinal pain after I eat. It is not tied to any specific food that I eat and it does not happen at every meal. I am wondering if the Advil or other pain medication could have affected my gut and what you suggest to heal. I completed the full CBO protocol right before surgery and did not have this pain before. Any information or advice that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.   Marica: Hi Dr Cabral, Can you please come up with a C-vid VX Detox? I am almost 100% sure that the vx is what caused my Graves disease. Thanks so much! Regards,   Lisa: Dear Dr. Cabral, Thank you for generously sharing your expertise! You have helped me immensely on my journey back from chronic fatigue & pain! I find myself at 60 years old with a "Mega-stomach" and "Mega-colon", I'm assuming from constipation that I was unaware of due to daily bowel movements. Though I weigh about 113 pounds at 5'-2" I look as if I am 6 months pregnant. This distention is not from bloat, but is a "permanent" distention. Or is it? I never feel full which is frustrating. I also have LIMO (Lower Intestinal Microbial Overgrowth) which tends to make me constipated, though I am able to manage this with supplements. I've done all of the relevant Equilife protocols and detoxes, but can't afford the CBO Protocol again. Please share what you can.   Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community's questions!      - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2927 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? Other than a sense of adventure and entertainment, one key reason why people eat spicy food is the common belief that it's good for you! Folklore has it that eating spicy food can cure colds, boost your metabolism and even induce birth when a woman is past her due date. And while some of these are simply urban legends, the health allure around spice is not entirely false. Which brings us to today's question: can spicy food improve our health? As technology grows, we've come to recognize the power of big data: how it influences company policies, consumer choices, and even government decisions. Data should not be just for profit — it should have an ethical and moral basis, which is where the importance of data ethics comes in. If you'd like to know more about data security and its ethical considerations, you're in for a treat this week.  In this episode, Simla Sivanandan, Senior Manager of Data Intelligence at Collibra, joins us to talk about the importance of data ethics and how Collibra upholds data ethics within their organization. She also shares how the real problem is unconscious bias when dealing with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).  Tune in to the episode to dive deeper into data ethics and unconscious bias. Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:Gain an understanding of what data ethics is all about. Discover the significance of unconscious bias in handling data. Find out how Collibra strategically instills data ethics within the company. ResourcesAn https://physicsworld.com/a/covid-19-pandemic-has-made-weather-forecasts-less-reliable/ (article) on Lancaster University's study on why weather forecasts were less reliable after the COVID-19 pandemic Connect with Simla over at https://www.linkedin.com/in/simla-sivanandan/ (LinkedIn) Episode Highlights[01:20] Connecting Data and EthicsSimla initially found the concept of data ethics unnatural. Data is precise, while ethics are very subjective.  Ethics may seem simple, like doing the right thing, but what's right can differ for different people. Simla: “You see the power of data, where people are using that to make decisions that affect your life, your life quality, and all of that. So, we, as data professionals, always see the power of data. I think, as data citizens, it's our responsibility to use it ethically [and] wisely.” During the vaccine shortage at the start of the pandemic, the government used data to determine who was the priority, which has ethical implications. [04:45] Unconscious BiasData ethics is much bigger than machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), which businesses use to personalize the customer's online experience. Companies must be aware of the purposes and risks involved in asking customers for their personal data. Simla: “To me, really, the gold standard is: If I'm working in a bank, am I comfortable banking with them? If I'm working in an insurance company, am I okay to purchase that? That kind of tells me: Am I okay with the way they are treating my data, right? That's where I am that it's not just ML or AI.” Simla believes that the conversation around ML and AI involves unconscious bias. There are cases wherein we have no control over the data, even if we understand why it's happening. Unconscious bias is a vital conversation to have in data ethics. Simla: “Exclusion creates bias, and that might be unconsciously happening because we are not thinking through or we're not picking a big enough sample set. That's where I'm coming from. So, it's always important as a data professional to be aware of this, right? As I limit my sample set, it can have unintended consequences, and we should address that.” [10:18] How Collibra Strategically Instills Data Ethics Collibra is guided by its core values: being open, direct, and kind. The company strives to communicate directly, thoughtfully, and kindly. Collibra always thinks about how their work matters and its impact on many people and industries, which guides their ethical value system. Data ethics is everyone's responsibility, not just companies and governments. Social media should recognize its power and strengthen the moral framework within its algorithm to protect consumers instead of prioritizing more clicks and users. Do you love spicy foods but they don't love you back? Check out these tips for getting the flavor without the digestive havoc.Spicy foods are delicious. But, your body may not share your enthusiasm for hot stuff. If you're sensitive to spicy foods, you may consider having smaller portions or using less spice.Another tip is to have some avocado before embarking on a spicy culinary journey. Avocado can coat the stomach and make it easier to handle the hot foods. The healthy fats in avocados help the digestive process.Use fruit and/or complex carbs as an appetizer in order to get your stomach ready for a spicy adventure. Mix up a fruit-based salsa to calm down the spiciness. Lime juice is great for digesting spicy peppers.Incorporate fresh herbs into your dishes for a peppery flavor without irritating your digestive system with actual peppers. Consider using cumin, cilantro, thyme and paprika. Finally, make your own sofrito, a spice base using a blender. Take equal parts of cilantro, onion, red pepper, green pepper and tomatillo. Add a small portion of parsley (to cut the heat of the peppers), oregano and thyme. Add avocado oil and puree. Add lime and puree for an additional 20 seconds. Store in jars and use throughout the week. Sofrito can serve as a meat rub, salsa, salad dressing or fresh fruit glaze. Freeze it in ice cube trays and put the cubes in a freezer bag as a starter for sauces and soups. Adding flavor to your food can help satiate that need for spice. You might enjoy using a simple herbal rub on your meats and vegetables. Ingredients: salt black pepper cinnamon pumpkin spice nutmeg turmeric curry powder Mix these up in a container. See how these flavors contribute to your meals. This is a great blend for autumn.Ingredients salt pepper garlic powder cumin oregano thyme Mix these up in a container. The longer it sits, the more potent the flavors become. Listen in as Chef Ronaldo Linares shares how you can enjoy spicy tastes without upsetting your tummy. Sponsor: Real Salt
