You’re definitely going to want to check out the new release from LaMP entitled One of Us out now wherever you listen or buy music. For the uninitiated LaMP features drummer Scott Lawton and keyboard player Ray Paczkowski famously of the Trey Anastasio Band and guitarist Scott Mezger who has been toiling with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead amongst other side projects. Together, the trio puts out very cool jams that play off of their improvisation chops and decades of playing a range of music styles. While the tunes all start out with a groove Russ Lawton provides, they grow organically as the other two musicians colour in with their instruments over top. Together the trio amass tunes that are eclectic yet very much recognizable as LaMP tunes. I caught up with Russ Lawton to talk about where things are at with LaMP and of course we discussed the very compact yet thorough One of Us an album worth getting into your ears soon. Here’s how the conversation went. First song: Nice Girl Second song: Jasper's World See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A very special guest many moons in the making, please welcome dear friend and fearless leader PAUL LEVINE of Hulaween, Purple Hat Productions, co-founder of Bear Creek and Purple Hatters Ball, Suwannee Resonate, and all-around ambassador of Spirit of Suwannee Music Park. Paul is a major force of nature in our little sliver of the musical universe, responsible for so many epic endeavors over the years. On the occasion of the 10th Hulaween, Paul the Wolf finally slides through the pod to discuss the joys, journey, success, teammates, peaks, valleys, tragedy, community, and the Spirit of Suwannee dream. After our conversation, BG runs thru the Hula 2023 schedule and gives you a handful of can't miss picks. Offstage, James Casey was somebody I admired for the way he moved through life: determined, ambitious, graceful, loving. From when we met in 2011 til our last interaction, he was always very kind to me. I wanted to say a few words about the man while the wound is still fresh. Rest easy, James Casey. From there, we love on Lettuce for a good long while, as Levine was instrumental in the band's SE regional come-up, Bear Creek was LETT HQ for seven glorious years, and he remains a major ally and asset to the squad. The show was the first time Anastasio performed in public with Lawton and Markellis, who were joined by guitarist/vocalist Tom Lawson of The Pants, saxophonist Dave Grippo, trombonist James Harvey and vocalist Heloise Williams of Viperhouse.“First Tube” was seemingly named for its placement as the first song played at the 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes show, which also saw the premieres of future Phish/TAB songs “Sand,” “Mozambique” and “Last Tube.” Trey, Tony and Russ would go on to form the first incarnation of the Trey Anastasio Band which made its debut — back at the Higher Ground — in February 1999. That concert again featured “First Tube” as part of the setlist. The same TAB trio was also the lineup on Trey's first solo tour in May 1999. By the end of that acoustic/electric tour, “First Tube” was a full-on show-stopper that highlighted many electric second sets. Along with fellow 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes original “Mozambique,” “First Tube” made its Phish debut on September 9, 1999, in Vancouver, British Columbia. One of two instrumentals on Farmhouse — along with “The Inlaw Josie Wales” — “First Tube” earned Phish a Grammy Award Nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2001. Nominated alongside Peter Frampton, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Satriani, Phish lost to Metallica, Michael Kamen and the San Francisco Symphony's “The Call of Ktulu” First Tube” was played by Phish four times when they returned in 2003 but not at all in 2004, the year that began a second break lasting until 2009. Since coming back from the second hiatus, “First Tube” has remained a staple of both Phish concerts and Trey solo shows  SHOW #2:           Possum53:40 – 55:09Phish w Derek Trucks Live - YouTube The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday (often abbreviated as TMWSIY) is a 1987 concept album written by Trey Anastasio, the guitarist and lead vocalist of the American rock band Phish, as his senior thesis while attending Goddard College. Composed in 1987, the thesis included an essay piece and collection of songs (recorded by Phish) relating an epic tale from the band's fictional land of Gamehendge. On the album, the story of Gamehendge is told in nine parts, with short spoken narration in between. The saga can be compared to rock concept album projects like The Doors' Celebration of the Lizard or Rush's 2112 suite.The story's primary protagonist is Colonel Forbin. Other major characters include Tela, the "jewel of Wilson's foul domain" and the "evil" Wilson himself. Several of the album's spoken narrative sections are accompanied by background music borrowed from sections of the Phish songs "Esther" and "McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters". The final track, "Possum", is the only song on the album not written by Anastasio, having been written by former Phish member Jeff Holdsworth and later added to the Gamehendge cycle.Jeff Holdsworth is a musician who was a founding member of the rock band Phish.[1] Founded at the Redstone campus dormitories of the University of Vermont (UVM) in the fall of 1983, the band originally featured Holdsworth and Trey Anastasio sharing lead vocal and guitar duties, Jon Fishman on drums, and Mike Gordon on bass guitar. Holdsworth left the band in 1986 after graduating from UVM to pursue a career in electrical engineering, shortly before the band recorded their debut self-produced album, The White Tape, though he had played on some of the demo recordings (done in a dorm room) that would later be re-recorded for that album. His songs "Possum" and "Camel Walk" continue to be Phish live show favorites.  James Casey                       ARTICLE Show #3:             Dear PrudencePhil & Friends (Casey singing)  Rick Mitarotonda (Goose), John Medeski, Grahame Lesh, Nicki Bluhm, James Casey, Katie Jacoby, John MoloMarch 17 2023Capitol Theater3:12 – 4:36Phil Lesh & Friends - Dear Prudence - Feat. The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartneypartnership. Written in Rishikesh during the group's trip to India in early 1968, it was inspired by actress Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, who became obsessive about meditating while practising with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.[2] Her designated partners on the meditation course, Lennon and George Harrison, attempted to coax Farrow out of her seclusion, which led to Lennon writing the song. Lennon wrote "Dear Prudence" using a finger-picking guitar technique that he learned from singer-songwriter Donovan. Its lyrics are simple and innocent and celebrate the beauty of nature. The Beatles recorded the song at Trident Studios in late August 1968 as a three-piece after Ringo Starr temporarily left the group out of protest at McCartney's criticism of his drumming on "Back in the U.S.S.R." and the tensions that typified the sessions for the White Album. Dear Prudence" has received praise from music critics, with many praising its lyrics and the band's performance. Lennon later selected it as one of his favourite songs by the Beatles. On this episode of Why Music Matters, I spend some time with Jennifer Brazill, founder of the Borderland Festival, which celebrates its fifth year at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora, New York, September 15 through 17. This year's Borderland marks a serious breakthrough for Brazill and her team, as she presents three full days' worth of roots music, Americana, and jam-band sounds across multiple stages, with headliners Goose, Trey Anastasio Band and Moe lending significant star power to the lineup. Jen's journey has taken her across the country over the last 20 years, as she worked at independent record labels, in concert production and promotion, and in artist management, including a stint with the Dave Matthews Band's management team. Jen brought all of this experience back to her native Western New York when she founded the Borderland Festival in 2018. Through it all, Jen has been guided by a deep and abiding love for music and an enduring belief in its ability to transform and elevate.

Hi everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's guest is entertainment writer and contributing editor, Jordan Hoffman. I first became of Jordan through his twitter feed, and we tried for a while to set up a show and a date to record. After a while, Jordan chose what is, at the time of this recording, chose the second live performance NOT from Phish. But as we discuss early in the episode, it is Phish-adjacent: today we're talking about TAB–the Trey Anastasio Band–and their show from April 29, 2019 at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. When Jordan and I began speaking, his enthusiasm and excitement to tell his story about this show was immediately apparent. Normally, I like to think of myself as being pretty quick on my feet when discussing Phish, and although TAB is just one degree of separation, there have been so many iterations of the band and so many songs I don't know that I had to let Jordan take the wheel for much of the conversation. And man, I am so glad that was the case. Jordan takes us on an emotional and always entertaining journey about how he found his way through trauma and hope to end up just a few rows back from one of his favorite bands at the legendary New York City club.So let's join Jordan to talk about They Live, Peaches en Regalia, and Bonnie Raitt as we discuss the Trey Anastasio Band's show from April 29, 2019 at Brooklyn Bowl.

We are so excited to have Ari Joshua as our guest on No Simple Road This week! For years, shamanistic guitarist and composer Ari Joshua has been one of those “musician's musicians” who those “in the know” rave about but remains under the radar to the public. Struggles with substance abuse; a severe car accident; Ari's commitment to music education with the successful school he founded, The Music Factory; and the daunting task of mixing have kept him in something of a creative holding pattern.Ari is finally opening his vault and sharing a catalog of recordings that feature his masterful musicianship alongside such revered instrumentalists as four-time Grammy-winning artist Robert Glasper, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, Delvon Lamarr, Skerik, and members of the Trey Anastasio Band. These tracks will be issued in various configurations, and they document a spiritual journey of a prodigious talent all-consumed by his passion for music. We talk with Ari about:Growing up on the east coast and receiving a scholarship to music school. His struggles and triumphs in running his own music school, The Music Factory.Having Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam as a mentor.Buying the building for The Music Factory with the help of local investors. His early connection to frequency and sound.Overcoming his fear of sharing his art. What it means to find our own personal 'Black Hole' and what we do with it when we find it.Having the guts to just 'go for it' when you feel something move you.How the Grunge Era and the Seattle music scene shaped his life and sound.Finding focus when you have a ton of things on your plate.Ways to serve your own creative abilities.... and so much more!SONG AT THE START FO THE INTERVIEW: 'Lest's Do It Right Now' (feat. Her newest record, Something In The Water came out in September of 2022 and features her honest voice and joyful spirit over a catalog of songs.JHA joins the Club to discuss her career in music and the moody, sexy, neo-soul classic Voodoo, by D'Angelo. Music and entertainment ran in the family. And while she's best known for playing trumpet with legendary musicians like Trey Anastasio and Phish, Carlos Santana, Tom Petty, & Herbie Hancock (to name just a few), that's not the instrument she started with. But once she found it, it was all over. In fact, she went to college for music and at one point was asked to TEACH the class instead of attend it. Well, it was at that point that she made an important decision in her life, which was followed by a HUGE coincidence 10 minutes later.Jen talks about the life of an independent touring musician very candidly. Is the world missing out on musical greatness or are some notes best not played? What kind of horror would be drummed up if Miles Davis sat in with Rob Zombie? Would Flea grooving Khruangbin be too epic or the greatest set the band ever played? Is the jury still out on Janis Joplin and Prince hanging out? We'll get to the bottom of these hypothetical collaborations, and many more! Hear more: yesterdaysconcert.com

If you're a fan of the band Phish (a phan), you probably know Don Hart or at least have heard the fruits of his labor. He's lead guitarist Trey Anastasio's composer and arranger and Don's transformed some of Trey and Phish's most beloved and well-known tunes into orchestral masterpieces. All of that work culminated in the Beacon Jams - a pandemic-inspired eight-show live stream residency at an empty Beacon Theater in New York City. Trey and his friends didn't repeat a song the entire run and the repertoire ranged from Phish compositions with the Trey Anastasio Band to incorporating a string quartet, at times pushing Don to turn around those parts in less than a week.Among some of the highlights In this light and eye-opening conversation, Don tells us what that experience was like, how he goes about arranging Trey and Phish's music, and which tune was the most challenging to adapt (it might surprise you!)-Follow Alex on Instagram

Aside from being an artist-at-large, Rezak also fronts Shred is Dead a Grateful Dead tribute band, and is a member of Digital Tape Machine and many other little bands. He does however take time to carve out solo records, as he did in 2018 with "Gateway to the Galaxy". He just released his sophomore follow up to that record, a 4 song, 30 minute EP "Truth in Sound" which absolutely needs to be heard. I caught up with Marcus who always seems to be on the road doing something. In light of the current situation at hand, this podcast has transitioned to focus on what we are living through, both collectively and in quarantine. These are our stories. In addition, we also hear from a beloved member of the music community DJ Richie G, plus the long awaited return of J.A. To lift spirits, the pod wraps up with a magical personal reflection from the host.  RIP Ellis Marsalis, Bill Withers, John Prine ISOLATION STATION v.2  DJ Richie G intro at 6:00 Leading things off is DJ Richie G, a Lettuce superfan and longtime member of the jam/funk music community. He's also a multi-genre DJ in his spare time. Richie Grossman has already contracted, battled and recovered from the corona virus, so we check in with him to hear his story, the gory details and inspiring recovery. I've known James for about a decade now and have been a big fan of his for even longer, so it was an absolute joy to get a chance to interview him, though we both wished it were under different circumstances. James was among the first people in my network warning and informing people about the oncoming pandemic, as far back as mid-February. He lets us know just why he was alarmed before most of us, and how he's dealing with the current reality. Part of that has to do with severe asthma, which stems from a near-death experience, an astonishing tale from James! Of course, he speaks about his joining TAB and his tremendous trajectory with that ensemble.  why he admires and envies Trey, and a little bit about his own music, too. Thanks to James Casey! SHIRA ELIAS intro at 57min  SHIRA ELIAS of TURKUAZ, who was a fantastic interview on Episode 013 of this podcast, jumps on the phone from the desert in Arizona. Shira tells the story of relocating her whole life from NYC to Los Angeles while the virus was taking hold in the US. She takes us through journeying cross-country, then retreating to the desert for some peace and space. We get the scoop on her forthcoming EP/project Shira Elias' Goods & Services, and the debut single “Burnin'” that drops Friday 4/10. Shira reflects on Turkuaz “None's A Ton” concert film, and why this downtime, though difficult, has been good for her in a number of ways. The Upful LIFE Podcast ADORES Shira Elias!   THE Return of J.A. - intro at 1hr 17min FINALLY. Jason Abrams has come BACK to The Upful LIFE Podcast. What a heart-filling chat with my boy back in Philly. A music-culture encyclopedia/philosopher, pro wrasslin' authority, Delaware Valley noted Phishtorian, J.A. is the most loyal and hilarious friend anyone could ever be blessed enough to have. After over a year since his last appearance, Jason comes back to the show to discuss what's goin' on right now in Philly, The Phish from VT: Island Tour revisited & Sigma Oasis, plus the music business and pro-wrasslin's future in a post-COVID entertainment industry climate. Russ Lawton is a Vermont based drummer best known for his years of work as the syncopated, driving engine behind the Trey Anastasio Band, whom he has been performing and collaborating with since it's inception in 1998. Now In his early 60's, Russ has had a fruitful career as a working musician for decades prior to ever meeting Trey, and his relentless work ethic continues today. In addition to touring with TAB, he co-leads and tours with the band Soule Monde along with TAB keyboardist Ray Paczkowski, he is in demand session player in the New England Area, he writes, records and produces his own pop/rock songs, teaches drums, and continues to keep up a disciplined practice routine after many years in the saddle. I first met Russ about 15 years ago when I asked him to my home in Vermont to give me a drum lesson and I hadn't seen him since until we recently reconnected in California! In this episode Russ talks about some of his early experiences as a drummer in various bands pre-Trey Band, as well as what it's been like working and collaborating with Trey, how he stays healthy on the road, insights into his longevity and continued success, and much more! For the better part of two decades Jennifer Hartswick has held tenure in the Trey Anastasio Band (of Phish fame) providing powerhouse vocals and impeccable trumpet playing. When she first met Trey and started collaborating she was just a teenager and self described "jazz nerd" coming out of the backwoods of Vermont. Since that time she has become one of the most respected, in-demand and busiest musicians on the jam-band and festival scene, guesting with a plethora of bands including Phish, Umphrey's Mcgee, Soulive, The Motet, The 9th Power, String Cheese Incident, and a slew of others. In addition to being an in-demand supporting musician she also fronts her own band The Jennifer Hartswick band with members of The 9th Power and recently recorded her upcoming record with the highly acclaimed contemporary jazz bassist Christian McBride. In this conversation we talk about what it was like for Jen first joining TAB and immediately heading out on the road as such a young women, how she maintains her stamina with her busy lifestyle, her illuminating thoughts on preserving one's unique authenticity in this world, and much more! Seth and Rob discuss the death of Chris Cornell and curious decisions made in the wake of the cancellation of the Pemberton Music Festival. Then they discuss Atlanta’s fantastic SweetWater 420 Festival before giving way to an interview with singer/trumpeter/songwriter Jennifer Hartswick which was recorded during this same festival. Hartswick explains how a Nigel Hall-arranged gig at Tipitina’s in New Orleans led to her recent collaboration with supreme bassist, Christian McBride. The two immediately became friends, and after a few months were in Trey Anastasio’s “Barn” recording studio working in a trio format with guitarist Nick Cassarino. We get some stories from this session, including the unusual way she talked McBride into recording a duet with her. We also hear about how her childhood in a strong musical family, and then high school years in an musically excellent rural Vermont school would lead her to musicians and future band mates like Dave Grippo and Trey Anastasio. She also tells of how she was invited into the Trey Anastasio Band, how she created of some of that band’s signature songs, as well as offers some insight into her various collaborations w/ Umphrey’s McGee and other bands. The hour’ish long interview traverses many other topics, including Hartswick commenting on her sit-ins with Phish, the many, sometimes offensive offers she and band mate, trombonist Natalie Cressman have received to play in all-women and other bands and Turner even tells Hartswick an affecting story about her own husband, bassist Chris Chew. Before wrapping up the episode, Seth reads a couple of emails from careful listeners who noticed subtle errors Rob made during Episode 31. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds (wonderdogsounds.com) Inside Out w/ Turner and Seth: insideoutwtns.com Twitter: @InsideoutWTNS Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/insideoutwtns Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/insideoutwTnS See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Dan is an experienced performer and recording artist, having shared the stage and the studio with a diverse collection of commercially and critically successful artists. He began his career with Rane, an award-winning rock ensemble who, in addition to becoming a success in their own right, opened for such acts as The Allman Brothers Band, The Jerry Garcia Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Wilco, Rusted Root, and Santana. After working with Rane, Dan became a freelancer, playing bass and cello with artists like Simon Kirke (of Free, Bad Company, and Ringo Starr's All-Star Band), Kurtis John (of The Last Goodnight), Jennifer Hartswick (of the Trey Anastasio Band), Sean Kelly (of the Samples), and Rex Fowler (of Aztec Two-Step). His innovative and tasteful cello playing can be heard on recordings from innumerable artists, notably Frank Black (of the Pixies) and Mark Mulcahy. Dan appears on several tracks on Mulcahy's 2005 release, In Pursuit of Your Happiness, an album that Thom Yorke of Radiohead called the best of that year. Dan is also a successful songwriter and composer. His style ranges from classically influenced chamber music to pop-rock songs, and he has been equally successful in both genres. His portfolio includes works for a variety of ensembles including chamber ensembles, choir, accompanied solo vocalists, and symphony orchestra.
