My guest today was diagnosed with ADHD and twice-exceptionality later in life. We have connected through TikTok and are learning a lot from each other. He demonstrates kind accountability in his TikTok posts and shows authenticity in his longer YouTube posts that I greatly appreciate. Join us to hear his unique perspective. Sean Szolek-Van Valkenburgh grew up in Indiana surrounded by orchestral, classical, and contemporary music. His formal musical education began at age 7 when he started studying piano and performing in choral ensembles. As his musical education progressed, he noticed that he had the unusual gift of chromesthesia. Through TikTok, Sean avidly posts about being a professional musician and artist and connects with over 680,000 followers; he refers to them as “kings, queens, and monarchs.” He hopes to provide a safe, inclusive, and entertaining platform that prioritizes genuine content creation and critical thought. Show Highlights: What is chromesthesia? Multiple senses cross in the brain, making it possible to hear music and also see it in colors, textures, and patterns How Sean uses TikTok to share music and chromesthesia Why Sean is intensely passionate about educating and helping people see the world in different ways, especially the “lightbulb” moments of learning How Sean's personal brand of intensity cuts through to the truth and presents it to people, shining light on obscure areas in the legal system As Sean grew up, he was very adamant about certain fixations, like dominoes and Jenga; his twice-exceptionality was masked by his ability to study and learn, but his ADHD was overlooked for a time How his ADHD impacted the way he planned and self-regulated himself and caused imbalance in his mental health How Sean was socially isolated with a few superficial friendships and focused on his hyperfixations How Sean had to learn in college to apply himself to social constructs The cultural factors that affected Sean as he and his sister were black twins adopted by white parents, and how this helped inform his cultural understanding How Sean had to tone himself down as a counselor at a fine arts summer camp and learn how to expend his energy in appropriate ways Why Sean depends on established routines and structures that work with his ADHD How Sean has gotten out of control on social media in exposing the truth and presenting the facts, sometimes finding it difficult to strike a balance How Sean uses his fire for good in helping people channel their fire into artistic expression in different ways How Sean harnesses the power of his intensity through self-regulation and recognizing the power behind his personality and neurodivergence How Sean recognized his twice-exceptionality How Sean has learned to take time for himself and take mental inventory with introspection Sean's advice: “Be educated and aware when you speak about ADHD. Know your abilities and disabilities. It's a long journey. Find your authentic self and work on defining yourself.” How to ask for accommodations What Sean is working on for the future Resources: Find Sean on Instagram: @seanszolekvanvalkenburgh Find Sean on Twitter: @SeanSzolek Find Sean on TikTok: @seansvv
Sean O'Sallaigh decided to take his mom, Mary, on a trip to Nepal in 2018. His mother suffered from Alzheimer's disease. He wanted to take her from the harsh Irish winter. What Sean noticed was the travel actually improved her condition. She started walking and talking again. Then Sean took her to Rome where they visited restaurants. Everywhere they travelled, Mary engaged with people. Later they travelled to South Africa. She died there at age 83 after more than a year of travel.* This is an example of faithfulness. Sean was devoted to his mother's best interest over months of time. Faithfulness is often associated with devotion to the interests of another. This is true of the story of the talents that Jesus told in Matthew 25. A master entrusted servants with his wealth. After a long time he returned. Hear what the master said to the good servant in verse 23, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"(NIV) God's Spirit is working to produce in us this type of faithfulness. The faithfulness that is devoted to the interests of Jesus. The faithfulness that looks after the interests of others and enables them to trust us. The faithfulness that is expressed over time. May you be found faithful! *"Devoted Son Took His Mom With Alzheimer's on Incredible Round-the-World Adventure–And She Improved," Good News Network, June 1, 2021, https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/son-mom-alzheimers-world-trip-sean-osallaigh/. NEW MONTH. NEW SEASON. (Literally) In this edition, I had the upmost honor in interviewing one of the most prominent Xavier Alums who's currently working in the entertainment industry. Originally, I had recorded a show with an eyewitness that I planned to air tonight, but that recording was plagued with audio quality issues. Due to that, I contacted tonight's guest, Sean, and asked him if he'd be willing to record a show on very short notice. He accepted, so here we are with tonight's show. It's a short one, but still good. About 14 years ago, Sean decided to go camping, in the Rocky Mountains, around Hinton, Alberta. The place where he had decided to camp was about 15 miles from any towns, so it was a very remote campsite. Instead of sleeping in a tent, he decided to sleep in the bed of his truck. Around 9 PM, he decided to go to bed. What Sean had planned on being a peaceful night of good sleep, though, turned out to be anything but. We hope you'll tune in and listen to him talk about what happened to him that night. If you’d like to help support the show, by buying your own Bigfoot Eyewitness t-shirt or sweatshirt, please visit the Bigfoot Eyewitness Show Store, by going to https://Dogman-Encounters.MyShopify.com If you've had a Sasquatch sighting and would like to be a guest on Bigfoot Eyewitness Radio, please go to BigfootEyewitness.com and submit a report. Have you ever met someone and they have the “it” factor? Sean McDermott is one of those guys. While Sean is the current head football coach for the Buffalo Bills and has been coaching in the NFL for over 20-years, I knew he had the “it” factor even way back when we were teammates at William & Mary. In today’s episode, Coach McDermott talks about his journey to become a head coach in the League, how to create a winning culture (as the Bills were perennial losers when he took over), leadership at all levels, what he personally does to keep his mind right, power of mentors, why he remains stoic on the sidelines despite being a fiery guy, and his thoughts on this upcoming season. Getting legacy companies to become okay with even the concept of change can be a big undertaking. You need Partnering to get collaboration and buy-in to make the LEAN paradigm shift. Sean has used LEAN methods on his projects and has become an expert on how to teach and apply these methods. Sean’s Journey to Becoming the Founder of Project Leadership and Delivery LLC (3:00) Sean came upon the construction side and was recruited into a specialty group Sean began to question the methods that were engaged in and how the company was operated, so he formed his own group in 1988 Around 2009 he moved into owner’s representation and was recruited to do a historic conservation project in Washington D.C. He became more heavily involved in the AGC Group and LEAN Construction as time went on He opened up Project Leadership and Delivery at the end of 2017 Sean’s Greatest Strengths as a Leader (11:20) His ability to think strategically He has studied and understands how human beings relate to one another – Construction is a human engagement and involves people Sean believes you have to figure out what motivates people and how to help augment the changes in behavioral understandings How Can We Marry Collaborative Partnering Structure with Lean? (18:30) You must create opportunity out of adversity – there is a formula: adversity leads to opportunity and opportunity leads to advantage LEAN theory says that every mistake is a learning opportunity In Partnering, you need diversity of types of points of view and people to realize that problems are all interconnected In LEAN, you Optimize the project, not the parts Partnering has structure, accountability tools, and its goal is to create a culture of collaboration and to hold everyone accountable to its norms (or buy-in) Partnering is a part of LEAN assembly – without the Partnering concept, you don’t have a LEAN assembly Formal Partnering has a place in all high-performance efforts; LEAN takes a whole bunch of other operational changes besides Partnering to create a paradigm shift Partnering takes training, LEAN takes a lot of training, and both have slightly different paths Advice for a Project Manager Who’s Interested in Applying Lean (32:30) You have to educate people and find out how to make people more openminded. Give people valuable information via the LEAN Construction Institute and the Associated General Contractors LEAN Construction Education Program. Provide the advantages to projects which have used LEAN methods. The key to a LEAN environment is continuous improvement. Summary: In this episode I speak to Sean Croxton about his experience with anxiety. We also get into a discussion around mindset, shifting the paradigm and being polarizing amongst other things Seans Bio (written by Sean): I am SUCH a nerd. I like to hang around my house and read books. In fact, I order them much faster than I can consume them. Thanks, Amazon… I happened to like reading so much that I thought it would be a good idea to start interviewing the authors. That’s when I launched my first podcast, Underground Wellness Radio, way back in 2008, when no one really knew what a podcast was. Oh, wait. The podcast came second. In 2007, I launched a YouTube channel about health. Basically, I took really complicated matters of health and made them easy for my viewers to understand. It was an instant hit. Probably, in part, because there weren’t many health channels on YouTube back then. But also because I brought some “edu-tainment” to a space dominated by jargon the average person couldn’t quite understand. Anyway, back to the podcast. Underground Wellness Radio ran for 7 years, with 348 episodes about all things real food and functional medicine, with a sprinkle of personal development on the side. In late 2015, I decided to close up shop at Underground Wellness. It was time for something new — to turn things upside down, to talk and write about personal development with a sprinkle of health on the side. At the time of this writing, my new podcast, The Sessions with Sean Croxton, has just debuted. Back to the beginning. I’m excited for what’s to come. http://seancroxton.com/ In this particular episode you will learn: - How Sean got started in business, on youtube and podcasting - How Sean was always quiet and had to build up the courage to talk to people when suffering with social anxiety - How Sean had his first panic attack while doing some personal training - What Sean's experience was like with medication - How the social anxiety isn't completely gone and Sean's ok with that - What Sean's motivational influences were - How we have the power to choose what we're going to accept and reject - You're either moving forwards or moving backwards, there is no standing still - How Sean went through a paradigm shift - "In order to change your life, you have to change yourself" - How to be unapologetically you
A real life story of beginning an Amazon business Today’s guest on the Amazing Seller podcast is Sean Coyne, an ultra-successful Amazon Private Label seller who has, with his partner, built a company from scratch by focusing on a private label product line. Scott asks Sean about how he and Ryan got their start, what their first product was and how it sold, and most importantly, the lessons they learned about how to source, purchase, ship, list, and sell private label products on Amazon. You won’t want to skip this episode, it’s full of insights for those who are brand new to Amazon sales as well as veterans. Sean’s story shows that you can do it! Discovering the right product to private label is not a simple task It takes lots of patience and research, and you have to curb your own enthusiasm so that the excitement of the hunt doesn’t push you to move ahead with a product that won’t actually sell successfully. In this episode Sean talks about his first retail arbitrage product and why it didn’t sell as well as he believed it would, and how he and his partner, Ryan, decided to move to a private label model. You’ll hear how they researched their first product, how they questioned the exact niche that would be likely to purchase it, and how they set up the manufacture, shipping, packaging, and delivery to Amazon. It’s a lesson in real life product sourcing, right here on today’s episode. Sean’s steps for testing a niche product’s likelihood of selling well When Sean Coyne and his partner Ryan found a product they thought might be a good seller (yoga mats), they reached out to the existing communities surrounding yoga to find out exactly what the best yoga mat possible might look like. They asked questions about what yoga practitioners preferred in a yoga mat, everything from size, to thickness, to color and location of a logo. The feedback they received was generally enthusiastic and honest - and it helped them design the exact product that people doing yoga would be most likely to buy. You can do the same thing as you research your products. Find out more about how to do that kind of niche research in this episode of The Amazing Seller. Would you like to hear from an experienced Amazon seller regarding the use of Pay per Click (PPC) and other marketing possibilities? That’s exactly what you’ll hear in this episode of The Amazing Seller podcast. Sean Coyne and his partner Ryan have developed a very effective system for driving traffic to their products through PPC and other means, and have many worthwhile strategies to recommend to Amazon sellers. On this episode of the podcast you’ll hear those recommendations and exactly how Sean and Ryan implemented them in their business, so make sure you check it out! Selling private label products on Amazon is never free of mistakes, but if you can avoid the common ones, you should!
