Do you see, Will? This week, V and Emily finally have a happy, joyous, euphoric episode! And it's about... Hannibal, the scariest show ever to be on television. But the fandom has embraced the show and one another so wholly and so delightfully that we can't help but be charmed. In particular, we are looking at the annual fannish holiday of Trans Hanni Day, a day celebrating fanworks created by trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer Fannibals, celebrating headcanons about trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer characters from the Hannibal Extended Universe. In particular, we look at the zine "Adapt. Evolve. Become," which had its first issue in 2023 and its new issue in 2025! We also swoon over Hugh Dancy just being the fucking best, even if he's also the most boring man alive. Host Meg Wolitzer presents three stories by contemporary Japanese writers that were featured during a live program created in collaboration with the Japan Society. Each touches on the idea of letting go. In “Hawaii,” Aoko Matsuda imagines a afterlife for garments. It's read by Maria Dizzia. In “Sunrise,” by Erika Kobayashi, a woman's life parallels the world of nuclear power. The reader is Rita Wolf. And Hugh Dancy meets a mermaid in Hiromi Kawakami's “I Won't Let You Go.”

As a post-holiday treat, Marvel Animation dropped its first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, premiering in January. Other voice talent for the show features Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D'Onofrio. If you enjoyed diving back into the dark, broody, Gotham of Matt Reeves Batman universe during The Penguin, get ready to be disappointed. It was announced that The Batman II has been pushed from its 2026 release date to October 1, 2027. The film is set to begin production in the last half of 2025 and DC co-chief James Gunn cited Reeves working to perfect the script as some of the reason for delay. The October 2, 2026 date formerly held by The Batman II is being taken by a film coming from The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise. The triumph of the sequel movies continues at the box office this holiday season with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having a very successful opening before Christmas to a $62 million domestic debut and has now climbed to a worldwide total of $159.5 million. Though Disney's prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, fell short of opening projections, the holiday season has been kind to the film as it currently holds a $221.7 million global box office. Wicked and Moana 2 still hold the overall crowns at the box office and Matt Eggers' Nosferatu, which debuted on Christmas Day, is sitting quietly but solidly at $26 million domestically for three days. The first trailer for A24 dark comedy Death of a Unicorn has been released. The film, written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and hits theaters in the spring of 2025. Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra recently told the Los Angeles Times that Kraven the Hunter is “probably the worst launch we had” in the nearly eight years he's been at the studio, adding: “I still don't understand, because the film is not a bad film." Vinciquerra also blamed the press for the bombing of Madame Web. Paramount+ has renewed the Jeremy Renner-led series Mayor of Kingstown for a fourth season. Netflix has released the first trailer for The Electric State, a sci-fi thriller from the Russo Brothers that stars Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, and Millie Bobby Brown. The film will debut on March 14. Paramount is moving forward with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to continue the video game adaptation film franchise. Currently, the film is targeting a Spring 2027 release. With an animated series already in development, Sony Animation and Netflix are looking to expand on building on their Ghostbusters universe as sources tell Deadline the two are teaming on a Ghostbusters animated film. Insiders add that the project is still in early development but that Kris Pearn is attached to direct. HBO has renewed Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy for a second season. Sony has announced that the 28 Years Later sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple directed by Nia Decosta will hit theaters on January 16, 2026. The movie is the second installment in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland‘s planned zombie apocalypse follow up trilogy. Jared Leto will officially play villain Skeletor in the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin is writing and directing a new take on The Mummy for New Line. Horror powerhouses Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, along with Cronin's banner Doppelgängers, are producing and the film is currently set for an April 17, 2026 release. Sony has announced that filmmaker Tom Gormican's reimagining of the 1997 snake-focused horror movie Anaconda will hit theaters on December 25, 2025. Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in the new feature from Columbia Pictures.

Host Meg Wolitzer presents three lively stories about the allure—or not—of summer. Italian writer Massimo Bontempeli creates a magical beach inside an apartment in “The Miraculous Beach, or Prize for Modesty.” The work was translated by Jenny McPhee and is read by Hugh Dancy. Humorist Samantha Irby doesn't get summer, and presents a contrarian's view in “The Case for Remaining Indoors,” read by Retta. And Denis O'Hare reads a baseball classic—W.P. Kinsella's “The Thrill of the Grass.”

Meg Wolitzer presents a show about the theater, and those who love it. Rachel Klein's “Audience Instructions for Our Immersive/Experimental Theatre Production In An Abandoned Middle School In Bushwick,” read by Santino Fontana, sends up the avant-garde. In “Our Mutual (Theater) Friend,” by Amber Sparks, A retired diva just can't fit into ordinary life—and then, she's given an extraordinary gift. Krystina Alabado reads. Ann Petry's “Solo on the Drums,” read by Peter Francis James, captures a passionate performance. And Anton Chekhov offers up a theatrical power couple and their puzzling marriage in “He and She,” read by present-day theatrical power couple Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes.

And you thought Don't Worry Darling had problems!! This week our real life Girl In The Green Scarf Lauren Anastasio of STASH joins Gaby to break down the 2009 "aspirational" and/or "lesson-learned" film Confessions Of A Shopaholic starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy. The movie premiered to much discourse and scandal on the heels of the 2008 economic recession and was branded "tone deaf" and "bragging." Articles galore ripped the romantic comedy a new one for its tasteless timing and privileged POV. Lauren and Gaby get into the real mental illness(es) behind "shopaholism," the relationship between department stores and sex, the accurate depictions of debt collecting/skiptracing, and post-pandemic "revenge spending." Sam Cheung, Carlyn Greenwald, and Ivan Vukovic, three regular everyday Americans, attempt to supplement their experience watching The Other Boleyn Girl by watching the first half of the two-part mini-series Elizabeth I starring Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, and Hugh Dancy, directed by Tom Hooper. They quickly learn that someone in the prosthetics department must have also been in charge of the financial department, and struggle to contextualize how this 2005 mini-series fits into the filmography of its stars. A vote is held on whether to watch Part Two.

Talk about a wrong move. This was supposed to be Law & Order's triumphant return, but it's bad enough to earn a contempt of court charge. The first episode of Law & Order's twenty-first season, "The Right Thing" aired on February 24, 2022. The show stars a bunch of newcomers with some returning alumni, including Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, Sam Waterson, Alicia Coppola, Lisa Arrindell, and Jeannine Kaspar. This mistrial of an episode follows the slaying of a Bill Cosby-esque entertainer. But the real murder victim is any sense of excitement that we had about this reboot. It's a late night recording for Andrew and Johnny, as they take a look at perfect goddess Rose Byrne's career, and discuss Hugh Dancy's Will Graham performance. There's tangents aplenty in reminiscing about 2000s twinkly indie music, space room decorations and Peter Gallagher's eyebrows (OH MAN).
This week The TV Boys sit down to talk about Gillian Anderson. But you already know that because of the title. Why are you reading this? You should have pressed play already!

This week we're outrunning our own shadows in “Soft Light”! We're talking the arrival of our main man Vince Gilligan, how messed up it is to see a man taller than Mulder, Hugh Dancy taking pictures of airport carpets, and that it's fine to point a gun at your romantic partner if it's fun and a little sexy. We briefly doubt Vince's writing prowess and then feel bad when we discover that, as usual, it's Howie's fault, talk about Mr. X becoming Mr. Ex, refuse to call Tony Shalhoub's character by his name, and hoot and holler over a very silly-looking viewing window. Also, that part where we forget Vince is short for Vincent is totally, totally a joke. Trust us, guys. It was all part of the goof ;)LAST CHANCE! Original broadcast date July 2, 2020. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/07/binary-system-podcast-225-comfort-watching/ Well the news in the real world is a bummer for sure so this week we only have one quick sitrep (short version: we're all fine!) and then we discuss our go-to comfort shows (House and Beastars, currently) fangirl all over The Good Place, and make terribly inappropriate comments about Hannibal's Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, and Gillian Anderson because they're all so, so pretty. This week's outro is a clip from Zen Glitch by TeknoAXE. https://youtu.be/rvJfzj6kfaA
Cali picks the Indie 2009 Romantic Dramady that shows two people who learn a lot from a premature relationship. Jarokk tries to sing a song from Labyrinth but completely botches the words. Hugh Dancy shines! Did you like the the character of Beth?
