One day back in 2013 I had just been diagnosed with Lyme. I was scared, confused, and thought conventional medicine was going to kill me. I was undiagnosed with Lyme for over 27 years. I also had three autoimmune diseases. That is when I heard the founder of FDN Reed Davis speak on a podcast called Underground Wellness. I knew this was the missing puzzle piece to my health journey. Reed explains what FDN is, and how it is different from traditional approaches, and how once you put in the foundations of health, people's health is restored. I enrolled and graduated FDN in 2013 and it completely changed my life! I am forever grateful to this man for giving my life back. For giving my kid his mother back. And now I get to help others using this same method. Do you have a chronic illness that the traditional route can't figure out? Have you been to multiple practitioners only to have them tell you your labs look fine? Listen to Reed as he explains how his method is different and how FDN came to be. Healthcare regulations are just one of the fears physicians have as they transition into functional medicine. Dr. Peter Osborne shares insights about building a brand in this space such as: Why so many physicians struggle with overcoming the fear of healthcare regulations as they transition into functional medicine The benefits of distancing yourself from traditional medicine as you build your brand Understanding functional medicine as the art and science of lifestyle and diet How to leverage the separation from traditional medicine to grow your practice What we can do to better convey our message and the services we have to offer How to establish transparent client relationships with clear expectations from the start What you can do to develop certainty in your services and brand The Separation from Traditional Medicine Many physicians struggle with overcoming the fear of healthcare regulations as they transition into functional medicine. Dr. Peter Osborne is back to explain why it's easier than you might think. Dr. Osborne is the founder of the Dream Practice FM Success Summit and The Gluten Free Society. He is also the director of Origins Health Care, a Doctor of Pastoral Science, and a board-certified clinical nutritionist. Dr. Peter Osborne initially joined us on The FM Shift to talk about the importance of charging what you're worth. If you didn't get a chance to listen to his interview on Episode #20, I encourage you to check it out for more context on our conversation today. The Art and Science of Lifestyle and Diet Functional medicine is not medicine; it is the art and science of lifestyle and diet. As functional medicine providers, our mission is to change the face of the healthcare industry. However, the louder and more vocal we get, the more attention we draw from the healthcare machine. Functional medicine is punk rock, and it is vulnerable to healthcare regulations, harassment, and scrutiny from the system. Dr. Peter Osborne is adamant about the separation of medicine and functional medicine because the patients that come through his doors maintain a mutual understanding of what his services or treatments entail. By deviating from society's construct of medical expertise, you can better target clients that are the right fit for your practice. Healthcare Regulations and Scrutiny When you establish your brand as a medical professional by practice, not by title, you don't have to worry about stringent healthcare regulations and scrutiny from the medical community. Why? Because you are building completely transparent relationships with every single client that comes through your practice. This is something you should take pride in because you are able to help people that the medical system has failed. You eliminate false expectations from the get-go and eliminate the victim mentality in your patients with proactive lifestyle solutions that have long-term effects. This is an area where traditional medicine has failed miserably, and we have the power to make a difference. Traditional medicine is not the space we want to be, and we need to distance ourselves from it for the sake of our patients and our practices. About Dr. Peter Osborne Dr. Peter Osborne is the director of Origins Health Care in Sugar Land, Texas. He is a Doctor of pastoral science, and a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist. Often times referred to as “The Gluten Free Warrior”, he is one of the most sought after alternative and nutritional experts in the world. Functional Medicine Education: What You Will Learn: Who the average functional medicine avatar is and how they make up 80% of your audience Why today's technology has created a powerful and unprecedented way to share your message Why the secret to niching down is to focus on what you feel passionate about Why undercharging for your services isn't just harmful to your practice but to your patients How to pick the right niche, and why structuring your pricing correctly is vital Why it is important to remember how much you have invested in your functional medicine education to get to where you are now Why creating perceived value by charging correctly for your services is necessary CE and Professional Development in Functional Medicine Are you pricing your services correctly? Do you charge for the real value of your functional medicine education, or are you undercharging? Dr. Peter Osborne is the director of Origins Health Care in Sugar Land, Texas. He is a Doctor of pastoral science and a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and he joins us on the FM Shift podcast to explain why believing in yourself and charging what you're worth isn't just good for your practice but good for your patients as well. Charging What You're Worth Have you ever stopped to consider the amount of money you invested into your functional medicine education, both while you were in medical school and in all the ways you've continued to build upon your functional medicine education since? If you were to add up all the times you've spent money to further your own education and knowledge of functional medicine over the years, are you really charging what you're worth? Many of us struggle to value ourselves correctly, but charging too little can leave you scrambling for more patients to make up the difference, and then you fall into the trap of working harder than you have to for less than you deserve. Good for You and Good for Your Patients Valuing your functional medicine education isn't just the right thing to do for your practice, it's also important for getting your patients to comply. As Dr. Osborne explained, you have to create perceived value and get buy-in from your patients so that they will comply. Free advice is easy to shrug off, but if they're paying a premium for your expertise then they're going to be more invested in taking their healthcare seriously. Pricing your services, your supplements, and your products correctly against other local practices and retail prices is key; if you charge too little, then you're creating the perception that your products aren't as high-quality. About Dr. Peter Osborne Dr. Peter Osborne is the director of Origins Health Care in Sugar Land, Texas. He is a Doctor of pastoral science, and a Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist. [54:11] If you’re going to spend money on advertising make sure you know who you want to attract! [57:13] Dr. Osborne explains tiers of service: 1. Free 2. Low Barrier offers 3. Paid service one-on-one. [1:00:17] Most people don’t create enough content to generate momentum. Today’s episode might be a little bit different than all of the previous ones. Still, it is as insightful as ever, especially because I am joined by the mastermind behind the Keto Kamp movement. I am humbled to be joined by Sean Croxton, a podcast host, author, entrepreneur, and prosperity teacher. I followed his growth and career for the past 8 years, most especially when he still hosts the Underground Wellness Radio, one of the internet’s most popular health podcasts.   During his seven years with Underground Wellness, Sean penned the still-popular Dark Side of Fat Loss ebook, started the JERF (Just Eat Real Food) movement, and hosted seven online summit events, including The Thyroid Sessions, Digestion Sessions, and The Depression Sessions.   Now, Sean is the host of The Quote of The Day Show, the #1 daily motivational podcast, featuring short inspirational teachings from the best of the best speakers. He is also the creator of Money Mind Academy, an 8-week course that will completely change your relationship with money.   In this episode, Sean shares the story of how his hardwork and determination got him to where he is today. He also explained the science behind developing a habit while we dive deep into physiology, neurocardiology, brain chemistry and how it is connected with your keto diet and fasting. Tune in! In this episode, you'll discover:   [00:55] Sean Croxton, the early years Sean’s mother worked three jobs. By the time he wakes up in the morning, his mom is already at work. When he goes to bed at night, his mom is still at work.  “If I didn’t have that experience of living at the poverty line, I probably wouldn’t have the value that I have on abundance.” His early years was a great learning experience for him. It showed him the value of earning money.  It showed him the freedom of earning money. It showed him that in order to have more money, you gotta do more service.   [8:18] The audio clip that helped changed Sean’s life  In November of 2009, his friend, Antonio, sent him an audio clip of John Demartini. “The amount of money that you have will always be in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of the service you provide.”   [17:10] After graduating from college, Sean became a personal trainer. His uncle and his aunt were his biggest influences on why he took health in college.  As a personal trainer, Sean had to build up the courage to talk to people when suffering with social anxiety. He had his first panic attack while doing some personal training. His doctor prescribed him Prozac but what he really wanted was Paxil. While training his last client, he found himself in the midst of a “Prozac-induced” panic attack. His social anxiety isn't completely gone and Sean's ok with that. He prefers to call it introversion. [22:32] Back in 2008, Sean launched his first show, Underground Wellness Radio. The podcast ran for 7 years and he released 348 episodes over this period of time. Surprising to most, in 2015 Sean closed up shop with his brand Underground Wellness. “Passions have seasons, and all seasons eventually come to an end.” - Lisa Nichols Sean felt that his passion for interviewing health experts is over.    [26:08] The importance of passion and loving what you do for a living If you are not living according to your highest values, it means you are not really living.  You are living by social idealisms. You are living by something outside of you. Life is too short for that. A lot of us are trapped in the ‘how’ When you are fully aligned with your values, the ‘how’ just shows up.   [27:23] Sean's motivational influences after shutting down Underground Wellness Sean was super deep into reading books by John F. Demartini.  Books by Demartini: How to Make One Hell of a Profit and Still Get to Heaven   The Breakthrough Experience The Gratitude Effect The Values Factor   He also read books by Bob Proctor. Books by Bob Proctor:   You Were Born Rich The Art of Living   Sean dived deep into physiology, neuroscience and brain chemistry. On his new YouTube Channel, Mind Kamp, he flipped the focus to personal development with a sprinkle of health.   [31:22] Neurocardiology: Interaction between the brain and the heart In the communication between the brain and the heart, 90% of it goes from the heart to the brain. There’s a little brain inside our hearts that stores information, memories, personalities, etc. Our hearts are our point of attraction.  Heart rate variability is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. We don’t want these to be to low. That would mean we are unhealthy.  Emotions dictate your heart rate variability.  Measure your heart rate variability through: Oura Ring emWave2 [34:11] Adding love and gratitude into your keto diet and fasting Meditation comes a long way. emWave2: emWave 2 helps with the analysis of HRV that reflects heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system dynamics, which are particularly sensitive to changes in your emotional state. emWave2 technology is based on "the coherence breakthrough". Coherence is a state of synchronization between your heart, brain and autonomic nervous system which has been proven to have numerous mental, emotional and physical benefits. [36:44] Your brain is the record of the past The past is literally composed of electrical current that flows in your brain.  These electrical thoughts become your biochemical feelings.  How to change these wirings? 1. Relax Get out of the high beta brain wave state.  Calm down and get into the alpha creative state.  2. Do your meditation.  AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Email me at ben@ketokamp.com Join the The Keto Kamp Inner Circle Get The Keto Kickstart Guide for FREE To know more about Sean Croxton, visit his website here. First, I want to state that we create all of our broths to medicinal quality using the traditional brewing method to ensure the highest nutrient density and the most delicious flavor. We like to call it what it is, a traditional sipping broth. That said, over the next few weeks I'll share my top favorite ways to use our very own bone broth. Each of the recipes to follow builds off the next and know that there are many variations according to your likes and dislikes. Before we begin, a lot of you also wonder, "what time of day and how much should I consume?" Again, this is very subjective but it has been suggested that drinking broth in the morning is a great way to charge up your day. I like to have at least one cup of broth a day. The science also supports using the broth at night as the broth then gives the intestinal lining a nice coating of gelatin that can be effective in healing all sorts of gut issues. As the body rests and rejuvenates during sleep, the immune system within the gut is getting much needed nutrients and the collagen/gelatin is helping to heal the actual surface of the digestive system allowing for greater absorption of nutrients and overall healing! Now let's ease into things with my first "recipe," The Basic Cup. To make The Basic Cup, simply use 8 - 10 ounces of your favorite flavor of The Flavor Chef Bone Broth, add a pinch of Real Salt, heat and enjoy! That was easy! Of course, everyone has a preference for the type of salt they like. We like and use Real Salt. We just ask that you utilize a quality sea salt that contains a high concentration of naturally occurring minerals. This ensures the highest nutrient density and keeps in line with our real traditional and healing food mentality. More on “Simple Bone Broth to AMAZING Bone Broth.” Health Tip Love yourself. The subject of today's interview is something I'm super passionate about. On this podcast we're all about questioning our programming and conditioning and redefining ourselves, our beliefs, and our lives accordingly. Today's guest, Sean Croxton talked about success, not in terms of getting what you want, but rather, by focusing on what you're willing to give and who you're willing to become to get it. We covered moving through fear, doubt, and indecision, creating unlimited success (defined by you!) from the inside out, and letting go of the "us vs them" mentality. That last point is huge right now, as our social, media, and political climates are massively reinforcing "us vs them." We talked about how passions have seasons and he even dropped some brain science on us. This episode is straight forward, practical and super motivating. Enjoy! About Sean Croxton: Sean Croxton is an author, entrepreneur, and money mindset expert on a mission to teach 1 million people how to discover and develop the hidden powers lying dormant within. A former personal trainer and health coach, Sean began his journey in 2007 when he founded Underground Wellness, one of the first health-based channels on YouTube. His “edu-taining” video content quickly gained popularity due to his unique ability to make complicated matters of health easy and fun for viewers to understand. In 2008, he launched Underground Wellness Radio, a Top 20 iTunes health podcast featuring weekly interviews with experts, authors, and health practitioners. The program ran for 7 years, with 348 episodes on all things real food, clean living, and functional medicine. Sean is the author of The Dark Side of Fat Loss: Lessons from the Underground. He is the originator of the popular JERF (Just Eat Real Food) brand. And he has hosted and produced seven online summit events, including The Thyroid Sessions, The Digestion Sessions, and The Depression Sessions. In late 2015, Sean decided to step away from the health space in order to pursue his passion for personal development, dedicating himself to studying and teaching the timeless works of Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale, Bob Proctor, and other success writers. His latest podcast, The Quote of The Day Show, features 5-10 minute clips from motivational and inspirational talks from the likes of Les Brown, Lisa Nichols, Tony Robbins, and more. You can catch a new episode of The Quote of The Day Show Monday thru Saturday on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play. In this episode, Sean shares: 1. Stepping out of the ego (identity) box 2. Allowing your job to be your investor instead of your enemy 3. You have to be something before you can do something (the opposite approach to success than most are taking)

Summary: In this episode I speak to Sean Croxton about his experience with anxiety. We also get into a discussion around mindset, shifting the paradigm and being polarizing amongst other things Seans Bio (written by Sean): I am SUCH a nerd. I like to hang around my house and read books. In fact, I order them much faster than I can consume them. Thanks, Amazon… I happened to like reading so much that I thought it would be a good idea to start interviewing the authors. That’s when I launched my first podcast, Underground Wellness Radio, way back in 2008, when no one really knew what a podcast was. Oh, wait. The podcast came second. In 2007, I launched a YouTube channel about health. Basically, I took really complicated matters of health and made them easy for my viewers to understand. It was an instant hit. Probably, in part, because there weren’t many health channels on YouTube back then. But also because I brought some “edu-tainment” to a space dominated by jargon the average person couldn’t quite understand. Anyway, back to the podcast. Underground Wellness Radio ran for 7 years, with 348 episodes about all things real food and functional medicine, with a sprinkle of personal development on the side. In late 2015, I decided to close up shop at Underground Wellness. It was time for something new — to turn things upside down, to talk and write about personal development with a sprinkle of health on the side. At the time of this writing, my new podcast, The Sessions with Sean Croxton, has just debuted. Back to the beginning. I’m excited for what’s to come. http://seancroxton.com/ In this particular episode you will learn: - How Sean got started in business, on youtube and podcasting - How Sean was always quiet and had to build up the courage to talk to people when suffering with social anxiety - How Sean had his first panic attack while doing some personal training - What Sean's experience was like with medication - How the social anxiety isn't completely gone and Sean's ok with that - What Sean's motivational influences were - How we have the power to choose what we're going to accept and reject - You're either moving forwards or moving backwards, there is no standing still - How Sean went through a paradigm shift - "In order to change your life, you have to change yourself" - How to be unapologetically you
