Today on Heroes Three our very regular hosts have a very normal time talking about the very regular film The Avenging Fist directed by Andrew Lau from 2001!Full cast and credits at HKMDB http://swimfanspod.com/
Andrew Lau is located in Boston now, but is a California native. He grew up in Oakland, and calls himself the odd duck who went west instead of east, like most people. He went to the north east for school, and stayed to be apart of the startup world, interestingly enough with his current co-founders. Outside of tech, he's married to an AP Calculus teacher, and has two daughters. He enjoys cooking and making new cuisine with his kids. Fun fact, he is a certified barbecue judge in Kansas City, and has come to Texas a time or two to tour the Texas Monthly list.Andrew met his current co-founders in 1999. Recently, they re-connected, recalling the successes and camaraderie they had during their startup days. They recalled that the act of leading engineering teams is hard - and they wanted to build something that makes that easier. This is the creation story of Jellyfish.SponsorsPropelAuthTeclaSpeakeasyQA WolfSnapTradeLinkshttps://jellyfish.co/https://www.linkedin.com/in/amlau/Our Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com* Check out Red Hat: https://www.redhat.com* Check out Vanta: https://vanta.com/CODESTORYSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
All-weather tires are becoming a popular choice for drivers, particularly as colder weather approaches. According to the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association, there is a strong market opportunity within this segment, which saw 6.1 million replacement tires sold in 2023. This trend is not new to tire manufacturers like Goodyear, which is capitalizing on the demand with the release of its new Assurance WeatherReady 2 all-weather tire.Recently launched in 58 sizes (with more to come) the tire offers a 60,000-mile tread life limited warranty. The WeatherReady 2 will eventually replace the original WeatherReady tire, introduced in 2017, as Goodyear plans to phase out the older model in most sizes. In this episode of What's Treading, Goodyear provided Tire Review an opportunity to test the WeatherReady 2 firsthand, and Goodyear's product marketing manager, Andrew Lau, provided insights into the attributes of the new tire. Andrew Lau, CEO & Co-founder @ Jellyfish, shares the engineering management principles that eng leaders will most want to develop and invest in as we transition from 2023 into 2024. We cover year-end reflection techniques, how eng leaders can become more resilient / adaptable, why honing financial acumen is key, and how eng leaders can better plan ahead to face upcoming technology & industry challenges. We also preview Andrew's new podcast called 5 to 9, aimed to identify meaningful ways eng leaders spend their time outside of the office. Check out Andrew's new podcast 5 to 9 here: https://jellyfish.co/5-to-9-podcastABOUT ANDREW LAUAndrew Lau is a Co-Founder and CEO of Jellyfish, where he helps leaders use data to align their engineering teams with business strategy. He was trained as an engineer and grew to VP of Engineering at Oracle acquired company, Endeca. He is also a multi-time entrepreneur and co-founder. At every company, Andrew saw the challenges of leading engineering teams at scale. He co-founded Jellyfish to give engineering executives the tools they need to be great leaders.Andrew holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Originally from Oakland, CA, he's a devoted fan of the Oakland A's, despite residing in Red Sox territory for more than two decades. Andrew currently calls Cambridge, MA his home, where he lives with his wife Elsie and their two adorable young children, Callie and Mira.“As a leader, your job is to know the context and translate the context. You have the benefit of seeing more things, but less deeply and your job is to kind of gather these informations and help other people understand it. People forget, you think you're an engineering leader. You think it's actually about making things. It is, but it's also about translating, especially at scale. You're not making anything anymore. You're enabling other people to make, and in order to do that, you've actually got to be translating and providing context.”- Andrew Lau This episode is brought to you by incident.ioincident.io is trusted by hundreds of tech-led companies across the globe, including Etsy, monday.com, Skyscanner and more to seamlessly orchestrate incident response from start to finish. Niveau zik on parlera du cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes car ça met toujours de bon humeur. If we were to tell you Martin Scorsese produced another gangster movie with Ray Liotta in it, what would you think? Would you probably not think it'd be one of the worst gangster movie's of all time? Well then, you'd be wrong. Revenge of the Green Dragons is a 2014 film based on a true story about a Chinese gang named the Green Dragons that wrecked havoc on Queens in the 80s and 90s. Directed by Andrew Lau and Andrew Loo, while starring Justin Chon and Kevin Wu, Revenge of the Green Dragons is one of the worst reviewed A24 films ever. Infamous in A24 fan circles, these A24 reviewers discuss their takes on the film and what went wrong.

Our look at non-English language films and their English counterparts continues with a review of the films Infernal Affairs (2002), co-directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak. and The Departed, the 2006 film directed by Martin Scorsese. In this case the films aren't clones of one another to the extent that we saw in the last episode, but the storylines remain quite close despite the big cultural jump from Hong Kong to Boston. But whether you watch it in English or in Chinese (or both—no reason not to watch both!), you're in for a tension-filled good time. COMING ATTRACTIONS: Next time we get to Part 3 of this mini-series, as we look at The Seven Samurai (1954) and The Magnificent Seven (1960). Brace yourself, those are a couple of lengthy films, but well worth your time. And in-between Reels 15 and 16, there'll be another bit of bonus audio as Claude takes some time to complain about the American educational system with regard to Arts programs. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wordsandmovies/support

Let's keep not only our eyes, but the entirety of our soul on the bible, for He has done the ultimate peacemaking; so that we can know Him and follow Him, even as sinners.

You've probably heard of the PayPal Mafia on the west coast. In Boston, you have the Endeca mafia, where lots of alumni have gone off to start companies like Toast, Salsify, Parallel Wireless, and many others. Andrew is part of this crew, as he joined Endeca in the early days and was part of the team that helped scale the company, which later resulted in an acquisition by Oracle. Andrew's latest company is Jellyfish, the leading Engineering Management Platform (EMP), which provides complete visibility into engineering organizations, the work they do, and how they operate. The company announced a $12M Series A round of funding back in May, which was led by Accel and Wing Venture Capital. In this episode of our podcast, we cover: * Andrew's decision to study computer science at MIT and how working at a handful of internships helped shape his career. * A deep dive into his experience at Endeca, plus another startup he founded called LoopIt. * All the details on Jellyfish and how they are enabling the business of engineering. * Advice to entrepreneurs on idea creation and what is a viable product to build a business around. * And so much more. We live in a multi-cultural society, as beautiful as it is, we would encounter traditions that are deemed as taboos. In this episode, we ask Andrew Lau, a teaching pastor at collective and my go-to theologian: can we as Christians still pay our respect to our ancestors? Is it right or wrong or there's nothing to worry about?
He took your place and died for you, so that now you only have one King to follow, one King to live for. And His name is Jesus! - Let's keep that in mind as we brave the week ahead.

Along the way we've become accustomed to thinking that the law of God is limiting. We learned that the Ten Commandments were given to us as God's gracious instruction, commission and preparation. It is His law that revives our souls, rejoices the hearts and seals the deal of our covenant with Christ. #NewGrounds

There is only one good fight required of you, that is the fight for the Word of God." // Pastor Andrew Lau We are, at our core, children of God and soldiers in His army. It is us who are called to learn, defend and spread His Gospel. For by His love and grace we are saved and so in His name, we go forth to bring this salvation to others. At the dawn of 2020, are you ready to fight for God?
Why do we remain in Christ today? Is our relationship with God still like how it was where we allow God to have it all? Tune in to this week's sermon by Pastor Andrew Lau, " I Am The True Vine".
"Jesus is the good shepherd that loves selflessly." As the good shepherd, Jesus is the leader who loves His flock relentlessly, who will not abandon us in our times of despair, who will leave the ninety nine whilst waiting for the one that strayed. Today, let's invite the good shepherd to walk beside us. Then in turn, we can also be a good shepherd to our neighbors. #BecauseLoveGives

We seent it Keith Flint and Luke Perry Death Captain marvel release this week Steven Spielberg‘s words to Netflix Steven Spielberg vs. Netflix: How Oscars Voters Are Reacting https://variety.com/2019/film/awards/steven-spielberg-oscars-netflix-1203155528/ Netflix produces or distributes have a four-week theatrical release before being considered for an Oscar. Netflix slapped back, suggesting it is a populist institution that makes cinema available to those who live in towns without theaters. Which is pretty hilarious considering that one of the reasons small movie theaters are dying is … Netflix. But it is also hilarious that it’s Spielberg who, in the parlance of the coverage, is going to battle. I recently watched portions of the Wim Wenders film “Room 666,” in which Wenders brought filmmakers one by one into a hotel room during the 1982 Cannes Film Festival to ask if cinema was dead. Directors like Jean-Luc Godard and Rainer Werner Fassbinder waxed eloquent about the meaning of cinema, but Spielberg leaned back in his chair and spoke nonstop about money. About how expensive filmmaking was, about how he would have never been able to make “Jaws” at that time what with inflation and the desire by studios to make sure they got a big return on their investments. If Netflix Loves Cinema So Much, Maybe They Should Let Us Watch Movies in Their Entirety https://slate.com/culture/2019/03/netflix-oscar-academy-award-eligibility-spielberg-entire-movie-including-credits-please-please-please.html Director Ava DuVernay, whose film "When They See Us" premieres on Netflix later this year, posted on Twitter that she values Netflix because "it distributes black work far/wide." "190 countries will get WHEN THEY SEE US," she tweeted. "I've had just one film distributed wide internationally. Not SELMA. Not WRINKLE. It was 13TH. By Netflix. That matters. Amazon has stuck by the 90-day theatrical window with its acclaimed hits like "Manchester by the Sea" before releasing it on its Prime video service. This week, we watch a cat and mouse crime thriller based in Hong Kong, where two moles, working for opposite sides of a cop vs gang rivalry, race to find out the identity of the other (which Martin Scorsese later remade into a best picture winner, The Departed) - Infernal Affairs (2002). Directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak.
Congratulations to Dr. Vijay Kannan (current chief resident), Dr. Nicole Hodgson (current chief resident), Dr. Andrew Lau (current senior resident), and Dr. Frank LoVecchio (Vice Chairmen for Research), on their recent publication entitled Geolocalization of Influenza Outbreak Within an Acute Care Population: A Layered-Surveillance Approach. Quoting from the conclusion in the abstract, "Our layered-surveillance approach was effective in localizing a cluster of influenza A outbreak. This region may house a high-yield target population for public health intervention. Further collaborative efforts will be made between our hospital and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health to perform a series of community vaccination events before the next influenza season. We hope these efforts will ultimately serve to reduce the burden of this disease on our patient population, and that this system will serve as a framework for future investigations locating at-risk populations." Read the full article here: http://www.annemergmed.com/article/S0196-0644(16)30405-X/abstract Listen to Dr. Kannan describe the paper in his own words! Who can you trust? Who can trust you? These are questions you must ask when you are a mole, and moles are the topic of the newest episode of Reboot, Reuse, Recycle! This episode is about Andrew Lau's 2002 crime film Infernal Affairs and its 2006 remake, Martin Scorsese's The Departed. To compare these two really good crime films we are joined by Portland/Denver comic Matt Monroe AND guest host Shane Hosea of the Hosea Hustle podcast. We also talk about the Fantastic 4 reboot, Leonardo Dicaprio, Mark Wahlberg, and a bunch of other stuff. So tap out some morse code and look out for rats as Reboot, Reuse, Recycle infiltrates Infernal Affairs(2002)/The Departed(2006).
Hoy recomiendo dos películas de las más crudas que he tratado, Revenge of The Green Dragons, basada en hechos reales con la dirección de Andrew Lau y Sentencia de Muerte, una revisión actual de las películas de vigilantes, dirigida por James Wan.

“Infernal Affairs” may have won seven out of the sixteen Hong Kong Film Awards it was nominated for in 2002, including beating Zhang Yimou's “Hero” as Best Film, but the majority of Americans probably didn't hear of it until it was remade by Martin Scorsese four years later as “The Departed.” And while that's a shame that it took so many people so long to discover this 2002 Hong Kong gem by directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, it's great that they did discover it. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our Movies & Their Remakes series with Lau's and Mak's crime thriller “Infernal Affairs.” We talk about the title, why it's silly to overexplain the English title, what the original Chinese title “The Unceasing Path” means and things you can read about the film from it. We discuss the actors, primarily Tony Leung and Andy Lau (not related to the director), and how so many of the actors here are performers in other capacities. (Cantopop, anyone?) We chat about the almost pathetic role the women play in this version of the story. And we hit on the taut storytelling style exhibited here which lets us really focus on the struggle the two main characters go through. It's a wonderful film and definitely worth watching regardless of whether you've seen “The Departed” or not. So give it a shot then tune in!

It is a rare opportunity that the Invasion of the Remake hosts get to talk about an Oscar Award winning film and they do just that with Martin Scorsese's The Departed (starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, & Alec Baldwin) which is a remake of the Chinese film Infernal Affairs by Andrew Lau (starring Andy Lau, Tony Chiu Wai Leaung, Eric Tsang, Anthony Chau-Sang Wong, Kelly Chen, and Sammi Cheng). It's a battle in the streets on this weeks I.O.T.R. Hong Kong A listers Chow Yun Fat and Nicholas Tse took to the red carpet in Macau last night to promote their new film "Man from Macau." It's been twenty years since Chow starred in a gambling themed film. He played the title role in the 1989 Hong Kong film "God of Gamblers," an iconic role that defined an era in Hong Kong's cinematic history, inspiring other gambling themed films that soon followed. The 1994 sequel "God of Gamblers Returns" remains one of Hong Kong's highest grossing films and it cemented Chow's status as of one Hong Kong's top grossing box office stars. Despite playing high rollers in films Chow says that in real life he despises gambling as when he was growing up his father lost a lot of money with the past-time leaving the family penniless. With the Chinese New Year just around the corner, audiences have the chance of a double helping of Chow Yun Fat, as he also stars in the fantasy action film "The Monkey King" which is released on Thursday next week. Chow says the films offer cinema-goers two very different experiences: "This film, Nicholas and I carry the film, 50/50. The other film is 30/70. I'm 30, Donnie Yen is 70. The two films are from different genres. The other one is 3D, and this one is for the Chinese New Year. I hope the audience will enjoy both because they are different." After walking the red carpet of the premier, Chow and Tse, along with director Wong Jing, and producer Andrew Lau left their hand prints for Macau's Avenue of Stars.
