Cover Price: $5.99 Release Date: June 18, 2025 IN ONE L.A. MOTEL ROOM, A COSMIC QUEST IS ABOUT BEGIN.... Edgar Award nominee and Philip K. Dick Award-winner Ben H. Winters (EC's Cruel Universe, The Last Policeman Trilogy) and rising star Leomacs (EC's Epitaphs from the Abyss, Refrigerator Full of Heads) unravel a three-part, prestige format series exploring the hallucinatory second life of a brilliant author who imagined our desperate future but never imagined he'd become part of it . . More than just a writer, more than just a science-fiction icon, Benjamin J. Carp was a cultural revolutionary. Across 44 novels and hundreds of short stories-including the counterculture classic The Man They Couldn't Erase-Carp pushed the boundaries of literary respectability for the sci-fi genre and his readers' perception of reality itself . . . until decades of amphetamine abuse and Southern California excess finally ended a mind-bending career that always just escaped mainstream success. He died in 1982. Until 2025 . . . when Benjamin J. Carp awakens, alive, in a burned-out motel on the fringes of Los Angeles. He remembers dying. He knows he shouldn't exist. Is he a dream? A robot? A ghost? A clone? A simulation? In his own time, Carp pondered all of these scenarios intensely through his fiction-and, now, as he treks from Studio City to Venice Beach and onward into the paranoid sprawl of 21st-century Los Angeles, he will be called to investigate his greatest mystery yet: himself. In the tradition of Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly and Thomas Pynchon's Inherent Vice comes a uniquely fascinating and hilariously deranged excursion into the metatextual nexus where existence and oblivion, past and future, genius and madness, and glitter and grim reality all meet just beyond Hollywood Boulevard . . . [rating: 3/5] DISCUSSION PEANUTS 1950 Writer/Artist: Charles Schulz This first volume, covering the first two and a quarter years of the strip, will be of particular fascination toPeanuts aficionados worldwide: Although there have been literally hundreds of Peanuts books published, many of the strips from the series' first two or three years have never been collected before―in large part because they showed a young Schulz working out the kinks in his new strip and include some characterizations and designs that are quite different from the cast we're all familiar with. (Among other things, three major cast members―Schroeder, Lucy, and Linus―initially show up as infants and only "grow" into their final "mature" selves as the months go by. Even Snoopy debuts as a puppy!) Thus The Complete Peanuts offers a unique chance to see a master of the art form refine his skills and solidify his universe, day by day, week by week, month by month. Kicking off my Pride Month Feature for year three on the show, today's guest is quickly amassing one of the largest bodies of queer superhero character continuum in the Marvel Comics Universe. He's a two-time GLAAD Award winning author, a three-time National Magazine Award winner, and a winner of the 2024 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers. That would be comics writer Anthony Oliveira. Anthony's run on Avengers Academy has been stellar and one of my favorites on Marvel Unlimited. It's soon to be partially collected for the first time in print this June as a trade paperback and also hitting shelves will be a return for him to Marvel's Pride Month project, Marvel United: A Pride Special, which will feature Captain America and Arnie Roth. We get into both of those projects, a little bit about his cinema loves with Dumpster Raccoon, why creating new characters is important, why it's hard to let them go, and I sneak in another Hell Comes To Frogtown pitch. Anthony Oliveira's website Byron's Shout Out: Wolf Alice Anthony's Shout Out: JJJJJerome Ellis Marvel United: A Pride Special From the publisher MARVEL HEROES UNITE AGAINST FEAR AND HATEMONGERING! Visionary Marvel creators and bright rising stars deliver an action-packed anthology to take a real look at the world outside your window! From Al Ewing, Captain America of the Railways Aaron Fischer confronts the inimical and despicable Hate-Monger; Anthony Oliveira pens a story about the past that will reshape the future; and more! You won't want to miss this special of righteous rage, longing love, captivating catharsis and, most of all, solidarity! Avengers Academy : Assemble From the publisher Since launching last year, Marvel Unlimited's hit AVENGERS ACADEMY Infinity Comic series by rising star Anthony Oliveira and visionary artists Carola Borelli and Bailie Rosenlund has become an online phenomenon, gaining a devoted fanbase who tune in each week to experience the adventures of Marvel's most promising young heroes! This June, the acclaimed series comes to your local comic shop in AVENGERS ACADEMY: ASSEMBLE #1, a new one-shot collecting the first six issues in print for the first time! Reporting live from San Diego Comic-Con, we're chatting with Gail Simone about everything she has going on at the moment, including the incredible Misty 2024 Special from Rebellion Publishing. When editors first approached her with the project, she'd never read the previous British series. However, after a few issues, Simone was hooked and saw her way into Misty's world, so some updates would have to occur. The Misty 2024 Special features three tales written by Gail Simone and illustrated by Carola Borelli, Aly Fell, and Marianna Ignazzi, plus a final story scripted and drawn by Letty Wilson. Each short takes on a different perspective and message, but all are snuggled comfortably within the horror genre. Simone is a thematically forward writer, and it was a treat to dig into her mission for each of these macabre yarns. Initially created by Pat Mills and published in 1978, Misty was designed to appeal to women, but male readers came along for the ride (and the pretty pictures). Gail Simone modifies Misty's thematic and narrative points of view, basically doing what she did for Birds of Prey and the superhero genre, but for Misty and horror. The Misty 2024 Special is currently available across the pond and will arrive on American shores on August 21st. Wrapped with a gorgeous Tula Lotay cover, this item is not to be missed. Also, as announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Gail Simone is writing more Misty stories. So, it's best to get aboard as soon as possible. Follow Gail Simone on Twitter and Instagram. And be on the lookout for our future San Diego Comic-Con coverage. We're talking to folks like Jason Aaron, James Tynion IV, Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampare, Tom King, Mariko Tamaki, Ram V, and more.
