In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Ken Pecus. Ken is one of those resilient people who hit financial bottom and catapulted back up again. Long story short, he got caught up in legal battle over a franchise agreement. He knew he was in the right and kept the fight going for four long years. In the end, he lost half the lawsuit, and faced financial tragedy when the judge awarded the other side attorney fees just as Ken's own business was being hurt by the Financial Crisis. This meant Ken was on the hook for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in a short time period, which nearly wiped him out. Ken's biggest lessons from that time are to watch your ego, don't always be focused on proving you are right, and keep communication lines open. Ken is the founder and Team Leader of The Pecus Group. Having obtained his license in 1989, Ken has more than 34 years of experience representing sellers and buyers throughout San Diego County. He has worked for a variety of companies including small independent firms and large national organizations. In the early 2000s, Ken founded Ascent Real Estate which grew to become the largest non-affiliated real estate company with 10 offices in San Diego County, prior to its merger with a national firm. 14 years after founding Ascent, Ken set out to rebuild a new brand, and has since joined forces with national real estate market leader eXp Realty in order to provide a seamless cutting edge transactional experience for his clients and team agents. Ken is a native San Diegan having grown up on the island paradise of Coronado, California. After graduating Coronado High School, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Despite always planning to have a real estate career, his first job was working as a software engineer manager at NAS North Island. His engineering background, as well as his time working in a high intensity government aircraft program, provided Ken with invaluable business experience in performance expectations, planning, budgeting and delivering. Since becoming licensed, Ken has completed hundreds of transactions and has extensive negotiation experience in luxury high value cash and financed sales, foreclosure and short sales, and portfolio building with multi-unit residential. Throughout his career, he has continued to provide extensive training to other agents in all facets of the real estate transaction. His business philosophy has revolved around doing business by referral, and The Pecus Group maintains a comprehensive referral network of other agents, both locally and nationally. On the personal side, Ken is an avid outdoor sports lover. His game of choice (since grade school) is definitely tennis and tries to spend as much time as he can every week out on the court!  He's also passionate about traveling the world in order to experience new cultures, food and history, but mostly getting to engage with people from every walk of life.

Kyle Forster was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Coronado High School back in the early '90s, then went to Texas Tech. His father started Forester Construction back in '85, and he had gotten sick right before Kyle graduated college. Kyle was about to go to law school but instead helped out at Forster Construction, which he owns today. In this episode he will tell us about:He had low back pain. His back would pop out, and he tore a muscle across his back at 18 years old. He has had a lot of pain on an ongoing basis since then.2 years before meeting Ruth, Kyle started having jaw pain that moved to his eyes, which he thought was from previously being hit in the jaw by a golf ball. He went to a chiropractor and got popped. The pain got worse so he started going to a bunch of different doctors.Kyle was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. It was pure hell. There's no other word for it. It's pure hell. Three hours of sleep at night. doctors that there are very few options. You can solder the nerves in your face where your face will droop, and that'll help ease the pain. Or you can do Botox for temporary relief. Then the other was heavy medication. None of those options seemed acceptable to Kyle.Kyle and Ruth met at a Referral Networking group called Referral Hub in Lubbock, TX. Kyle had been praying the night before to show me a sign. Ruth shared with the group that Blair Chiropractic Clinic helps people who suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia and headaches. Kyle decided to talk to her, and he put it across that he wanted to try this. He was desperate and was willing to try anything at this point. At his first appointment with Dr Elder, he got an adjustment that didn't feel like anything had happened. 4 days later, he slept through the night for the first time in 2 ½ years. Pain decreased over the next couple of months. Not only did the Trigeminal Neuralgia get better, but his low back pain and sciatica, with the pain and numbness going down the leg, also improved.Because of the great results, Kyle has referred lots of family members and friends for Upper Cervical Care at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic in Lubbock.Kyle Forster and his brother-in-law own Forster Construction. It's been around since 1985. They do residential and commercial roofing. They're not a jack of all trades. They concentrate on just roofing and take good care of their clients. They offer the best warranties on the residential side and on the commercial side. They have superintendents on both. It's not just some crew coming out, throwing on some shingles, or throwing on a flat product. They take good care of our people. There's a reason they have had an 87% retention rate since 1985. They take good care of our people. Kyle says: “Well, it's West Texas. All you have is your name, and everything in West Texas is about respect, and that's why it should stay.” Contact information for Forster Construction: https://forsterconstruction.com/contact-2/To contact Ruth, go to https://www.blairclinic.comruth@blairclinic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/rutelin We hope you will consider sharing this episode to give hope to someone who is suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Shortly after he was born, his family relocated to Pueblo, Colorado, where he spent his young years. In 1992 his family moved to Colorado Springs, where he would finish school and witness firsthand how population growth does to real estate. As the Colorado city grew, the evidence and the power of the real estate market became clear to him, and that set the scene for him to aim his career choices toward the real estate sector. In 2000 he graduated from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs and moved back to Western Ky. While pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business & Economics at Murray State University, he worked and maintained the desire to work in the real estate business one day. Upon graduating college, he spent a little time trying to find his way into the real estate business while balancing the income needs of his young family and stepping into a world where zero income was guaranteed. He began a small real estate sales business with a local real estate broker. After two years of being in real estate sales full time and working a second full-time job, he decided it was time to go all-in with a real estate career. Since May of 2007, Casey has been involved in over 400 real estate transactions ranging from selling a home for $4,000 to farms and commercial properties in the stretch into the millions.     CONNECT WITH CASEY  Podcast: Cashflowpro  Instagram: @cash_flowpro Email: casey@3000capital.com     CONNECT WITH US  Email: shawn@greenbriarcg.com  Instagram: Shawn Winslow YouTube: Shawn Winslow LinkedIn: Shawn Winslow FaceBook: Shawn Winslow

This week is the first full week of Fall, my favorite season.  School sports are in full swing with all of our teams in action; football, boys and girls soccer, volleyball, and cross county at Chino Valley High School and volleyball and cross country at Heritage Middle School.   This week is the Chino Valley High School Homecoming with the theme “Lights, Camera, Action: Homecoming”.  Each day is a different dress up theme and then there is the Top Gun volleyball game on Monday, the Powderpuff football game followed by the Bonfire on Tuesday, and finally the Homecoming Dance on Wednesday.  The Homecoming Royalty will be announced at Friday's football game on Friday October 1st when the Cougars go up against Coronado High School. One of the biggest challenges that we have face this school year is transportation.  We are currently minimally staffed with bus drivers and we recently had some driver absences due to illness along with other unavoidable circumstances.  This has led to the District cancelling our Prescott Valley route with the hope of bringing it back as soon as we can.  The lack of qualified bus drivers is not unique to Chino Valley Schools and is a nationwide concern. If you or someone you know is interested in being a bus driver, please call our transportation department at 928-636-2305 and ask to speak to our transportation director, Kriss Walton.  You do not need to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) to start.  We will pay you as you as we train you to get your CDL and bus certification.  If you are unsure about whether you can drive a bus, call Kriss and she will set you up to get behind the wheel of a bus to try out a test drive.  It is easier than it may seem. One of our most important strategic partners is Yavapai College.  They work closely with the District and Mountain Institute Career and Technical Education District to provide career and technical education programing for Chino Valley High School students.  In addition, YC provides dual enrollment classes with CVHS where students can get both high school and college credit for a variety of classes.   YC is offering a great deal right now.  Anyone can take one YC class for free, no tuition or fees, this semester.  There are over 100 late start classes to choose from that begin on October 11th and end in December.  This is a great way to test out college or brush up on some skills. The district is excited to have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association for fiscal year 2020.  This award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and is an indication that the district has clearly communicated its financial story and meets the spirit of full disclosure.  All of the District's financial information can be found on the district website under Departments/Business Office/Financial Transparency. As a special note, the district's next Governing Board meeting is taking place on a special date and at a special location.  For the first time ever, the Governing Board will meet in Paulden at the Paulden Community Center, 24050 N Marblehead Avenue.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at 5:00 p.m. in order to avoid conflicting with the district's fall break which is October 11 – 14. To keep up to date on what is going on in Chino Valley Schools, visit our website at www.chinovalleyschools.com or visit our Facebook page at @CVSchoolsAZ.

The coalition has since expanded to include over two dozen partner organizations based in Los Angeles and California, as well as a growing transnational movement with dozens of groups around the world (https://nolympicsla.com/about/)." Follow them on Twitter: @NOlympicsLA.  First, Eric and Taylor explained how Los Angeles won the 2028 Olympics instead of the 2024 Olympics and broke down who the prominent stakeholders were that made sure Los Angeles hosted the 2028 games. Also, Miguel, Eric, and Taylor discuss the legacy of the 1984 Olympics and its impact on Black and Brown people, the working-class, and the poor.   In particular, Eric and Taylor explain how LAPD Chief Daryl Gates conducted gang sweeps via Operation Hammer before the 1984 games. They also speak about next month's Summer Olympics Games in Tokyo and the work the comrades in Japan have done to fight the capitalist Olympic machine, plus more! Lastly, Miguel gives you his Molotov MVP for episode 21, Las Vegas Raiders Defensive End Carl Nassib, who last week was the first active NFL player to come out as openly gay. He ends the podcast with a different approach to his Chicana/o Sports History segment. On Saturday, June 19, 2021, a video went viral on social media of an ugly, racist ending to a CIF San Diego Section championship High School Boys basketball game between Coronado High School and Orange Glen High school. It is important to note that Coronado High School is predominately white and from an affluent area of San Diego, and Orange Gen High school is predominantly Mexican and from a working-class San Diego area city, Escondido. After Coronado's buzzer-beating three-pointer in overtime to beat Orange Glen 60-57, players and fans associated with Coronado started hurling corn tortillas towards Orange Glen players and coaches. Orange Glen players, coaches, and fans were outraged and called the incident racist. As a result, a Press conference was held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, by players, parents, coaches, and Orange Glen High School supporters, condemning this racist act, and the Head Boys Basketball Coach of Coronado High School was fired. Today's show is supported by iKOR Labs.  iKOR is a clean, natural source of recovery enhancing CBD that protects your body from the stresses of training, improves recovery from intense efforts and helps you maintain a positive mental state. Thanks to last week's guest, Coach Matt Fitzgerald, co-author of 80/20 Triathlon with David Warden. The concept of 80% of training being easy and 20% being moderate to hard is not new.  This book packages what professional endurance athletes and their coaches have been practicing for years.  In addition to laying out good evidence and science, it also provides a lot of practical tools for determining your training  zones and how to put together a training plan that is based on these principles.  If you haven't heard the interview, go back and listen to episode #144. Our interview is sponsored by Riplaces.  Riplaces are the no tie laces with custom tension for the perfect fit.  Pro triathlete proven and endorsed, most durable elastic bungee lace system available and they come in the super cool MHE logo package for $19.98  https://www.riplaces.com/collections/mile-high-endurance Jim Vance is an elite endurance sports coach, author, and sport technology and training consultant based in San Diego, California. There are few individuals in the world with the teaching background, elite athlete experience, and coaching experience with elites, amateurs and juniors, as well as knowledge of training, like Jim Vance. Welcome back.  Our post interview discussion is sponsored by Halo Neuroscience.  The Halo Sport from Halo Neuroscience will help you learn the technique and form to get faster.  20 minutes of neural priming with the Halo Headset gives you an hour of neural plasticity to work and lock in the muscle movement that leads to strength, power and endurance.  Use code MHE150 to save $150. Jim Vance Debrief: One of the Today'sPlan features that Jim Vance described are the RPE of the workout and Subjective Wellness ratings the athlete can provide on a daily basis.  As a coach we can look at all the power files, paces and heart rate levels in a workout and not have insight into how the athlete experienced their workout, their day, and what might be going on that contributed to the power, heart rate and pace.  At a glance, looking at the workout in the calendar I can see the RPE.   With one click, I can see the Session Rating recorded by the athlete, the duration rating by the athlete and the intensity.  This is a great way for a coach to know the athletes perception and perspective of the session objective, duration and intensity as it relates to the athlete's goals.  If there's a mis-communication about how the sessions are designed to help the athlete achieve their goals, this is a great way to make that mis-communication visible and get the conversation started if it hasn't happened already.   The other insights that can be collected are wellness attributes that can be customized by the coach in terms of what the athlete sees and responds to.  The athlete can complete include: Diet Mood Stress Muscle soreness Sleep quality Fatigue (waking) Fatigue (before) Fatigue (activity) Satisfaction Performance The coach can also select to make the wellness ratings on the day in the calendar view.  With that feature enabled to be visible, a small yellow star appears and by simply hovering over the star, the coach can see the athlete's perspective on all of those attributes on a daily basis. When I have my weekly Skype call with my athletes, I ask them about subjective wellness items including stress, fatigue, injury or niggles.  I ask how the workouts are going from their perspective, do they make sense given the goals, etc.  But just like Jim Vance pointed out, athletes tend to forget what they felt like 6 days prior.  Having it recorded daily gives the athlete and the coach data, recorded on the day, of the athlete's subjective sense of what they are experiencing. http://303triathlon.com/kona-must-dos-by-khem/ Video of the week: Family affair at Ironman Augusta 70.3 Double win In the News is sponsored by Rudy Project.  Rudy Project has the helmets, glasses and gear to help you ride safe and look great.  Use code MHE30 to get 30% off your full price items.
