Maybe, just maybe, "Yesterday"...And Today, was a modern-day Robin Hood (Men In Tights). Sure it stole from the rich, in this case, the U.K. "Revolver". But it also gave to the poor, in this case, American Baby Boomers, whose dreams would eventually be crushed under the weight of their own selfish interests from a life unfulfilled. Anyhoo! The Gab 2 dissect this essential Capitol album, and butcher both facts and myths as they discuss it and more, like:
Friday's 9am hour of Mac & Cube started off with our SEC Media Days OT edition as the guys went through some players you need to know ahead of the 2025 SEC season; then, Cole and Greg reveal their Dark Horse contenders for the upcoming year; later, Jake Slaughter, O-Lineman at Florida, tells us where the Gators have improved, how DJ Lagway as a teammate elevates everyone around him, and what he's learned from playing under Billy Napier; and finally, we spent time with both LaNorris Sellers & TJ Dottery and you HAVE to hear what they had to say. Today we discuss Epstein, Trump, MAGA, and how we know what we think we know. The actual economy exists, as does the attention economy; now Bret introduces a new term: the leverage economy. This implies that there is a commodity that we cannot see, which can be used to coerce players to act in certain ways. We see evidence of this in academia, in the news, and in politics. Discussion includes data mining, conspiracy, and whether Trump will pick up neocons as he loses some of his base.*****Our sponsors:Everyday Dose: Coffee plus collagen, mushrooms & nootropics – delicious! Today we discuss YouTube, flash floods, science, and Epstein. First: a head injury explains our late start, but all is fine. Then: four years after being demonetized by YouTube, both of our channels have been remonetized. Why were we demonetized in the first place, and what did we refuse to do to get back in the good graces of YouTube? Also: flash floods are often tragic, but does it inherently follow that they are due to anthropogenic climate change? Similarly, does not believing that mRNA shots will work against Covid mean that you don't believe in Covid? Finally: two competing hypotheses for what is going on with the federal government's newest treatment of Epstein: are they covering for a peace deal in the Middle East, or are they being strong-armed by organized crime? *****Our sponsors:Sundries Farm: Extraordinary hand grown and harvested garlic from a family farm on the volcanic soils of Idaho. Legendary comic creator Phil Hester joins Jimmy on the Cryptid Creator Corner to talk about his career in comics. Jimmy and Phil discuss some of his more recent work, like the excellent Gotham City: Year One with Tom King and the astounding Family Tree with Jeff Lemire. This is your chance to listen to a true master of his comic-making craft. It was also recently announced that Phil has teamed up with James Robinson for The Adventures of Lumen N. from Dark Horse Comics. Dark Horse website Follow Phil Hester on Bluesky The Adventures of Lumen N. From Dark Horse The year is 1901 and our heroine Lumen is a precocious 13-year-old with many questions about her life. Why has her father been gone for years? Why must she learn so many languages and fighting techniques and what's with all the lessons in seafaring? Then an attack on her home by a horde of steam-punk assassins delivers the first glimmer of an answer, when Lumen's savior reveals himself as her grandfather, the legendary Captain Nemo, one of the greatest characters in Victorian science fiction literature. A brand-new world of steam-punk adventure and thrills is about to open up for Lumen as she connects with the grandfather she never knew while together they take on a cabal of evil masterminds, intent on world domination . . . a world full of heroes and villains from Victorian adventure and fantasy fiction. Out September 3rd from Dark Horse Comics Gotham City: Year One From the publisher There once was a shining city on the water, a home for families, hope, and prosperity. It was Gotham and it was glorious. The story of its fall from grace, the legend that would birth the Bat, has remained untold for 80 years. That's about to change. Superstar creators Tom King and Phil Hester team up for the first time to tell the definitive origin of Gotham City: how it became the cesspool of violence and corruption it is today, and how it harbored and then unleashed the sin that led to the rise of the Dark Knight. Two generations before Batman, private investigator Slam Bradley gets tangled in the “kidnapping of the century” as the infant Wayne heir disappears in the night…and so begins a brutal, hard-boiled, epic tale of a man living on the edge and a city about to burn. God gave us this dark horse story of Esther so that we would know that even when we can't see him on the page, He's there. He's right where you are right now. Don't be afraid; be brave. You are not alone. If we are going to live courageous Dark Horse lives, we have to know that we don't have to be the hero. The hero is writing the story behind the scenes. We have to say yes to the role he is asking us to play— for such a time as this.

Today we discuss sex and vaccines, reality and renegades. First: men can no longer compete in women's sports—from Trump's Executive Order, to the NCAA's response, to William “Lia” Thomas having his records rescinded at Penn, reality is prevailing. Other evidence includes the UK Supreme Court declaring that “man” and “woman” refer to biological reality; and the U.S. Supreme Court writing an opinion that forcing LGBTQ+ books on children in public elementary schools is unconstitutional. Men cannot magically turn into women, nor boys into girls, no matter what they believe or are told. Then: from the ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) to Vinay Prasad's latest presentation at the FDA: the federal government is being populated by a combination of true renegades and middle ground scramblers who are dressed like renegades. A good toolkit for understanding how to make sense of the claims being made is necessary, and we all should be rooting for the renegades to win.*****Our sponsors:CrowdHealth: Pay for healthcare with crowdfunding instead of insurance. On today's episode, I talk to Eisner Award-winning comics writer Kelly Sue DeConnick. Born in Columbus, OH, Kelly Sue moved around a lot as a child and eventually got into comics professionally through adapting translations of manga. Since the mid-aughts, she has jumped between creator-owned work for publishers like Image such as Pretty Deadly and Bitch Planet, and work-for-hire at Marvel and DC, including a defining run on Captain Marvel. Most recently, she created FML for Dark Horse. It returns this July, and is easily one of the best comics in the last year! Today we discuss MAHA, wearables, health, and Israel. RFK Jr. announced that he hopes that in four years, all Americans will be wearing health tracking devices. What are the implications for individual health? Is hypothesis-driven science being undermined? Will equity be used as a way to force this on people? What should we think of the fact that Casey Means, the nominee to Surgeon General, has a company that incorporates wearables? What does Yuval Noah Harari have to tell us? Does having your data uploaded to the cloud seem like a good idea? There seem to be two very different models of how to MAHA: 1) hone your intuition, trust your senses, and try to create an environment with as little exposure to hyper-novelty as possible; or 2) tech your way out of the problem, and trans-humanize your way to success. Also: Bret introduces Warner the wearables werewolf. Breaking news: Israel and the U.S. appear to have brokered a deal that includes several other countries in the Middle East, and leaves open the possibility of a two-state solution.*****Our sponsors:Brain.fm: intense music that boosts productivity. Today we discuss war, regime change, cyber-attacks, libertarianism, and driving. In what ways are Israel's attack on Iran reminiscent of events from the past? Are the neo-cons back, or did they never go away? It would seem that we are being frog-marched to war. Speaking of destabilization: North America's largest publicly traded wholesale distributor of natural foods (UNFI) was hacked, leaving market shelves empty at tens of thousands of stores. In better news: Bret returned from FreedomFest, and provides a report, and discusses his model for Libertarianism 2.0. And: Matthew Crawford on why we drive. Which is better: horses or cars? We circle back to a discussion of efficiencies, coercion, and freedom.*****Our sponsors:Timeline: Accelerate the clearing of damaged mitochondria to improve strength and endurance: Go to http://www.timeline.com/darkhorse and use code darkhorse for 20% off your first order.Caraway: Non-toxic, beautiful, light ceramic cookware.
