What did it take to get nearly 200 nations to agree on tackling climate change in 1997? And what have we learned in the decades since? In this episode, we reflect on the drama, the impact and the legacy of the Kyoto Protocol, and go behind the scenes of the Royal Shakespeare Company's powerful and acclaimed production of Kyoto, currently playing in London's West End.After watching a performance of the play this week, Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac and Paul Dickinson introduced a live event at The Conduit, bringing together those who were in the room at COP3 in Kyoto with those now shaping the path to COP30 in Belém and beyond.First, we hear from a panel of seasoned voices from the world of international climate diplomacy, moderated by climate journalist Ed King. Farhana Yamin, longtime negotiator for small island states, speaks of how Kyoto helped amplify the voices of vulnerable nations for the first time. Nick Mabey, co-founder of E3G, reflects on Kyoto's economic impact, arguing that it sparked a global clean tech revolution by making climate action economically viable. And Richard Kinley, former Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, offered rare insights into the diplomacy that shaped Kyoto. Together, they paint a vivid picture of Kyoto's legacy and what it still offers to today's climate movement.Later, we hear from the playwrights behind Kyoto, Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, about how they turned bureaucratic negotiations into riveting on-stage drama. So, what's changed since 1997? Are we in a better place thanks to Kyoto? And is multilateralism still fit for purpose in today's world?Follow us on social media for behind the scenes moments and to watch our videos:Instagram @outrageoptimism LinkedIn @outrageoptimismOr get in touch with us via this form.Producer: Ben Weaver-HincksVideo Producer: Caitlin HanrahanExec Producers: Ellie Clifford and Dino SofosCommissioning Editor: Sarah Thomas This is a Persephonica production for Global Optimism and is part of the Acast Creator Network. First off, let's be thankful for this episode of Dipped In Tone. Rhett survived a close brush with a tornado while on the road in Arkansas, and returns to the pod to analyze all things signature guitars with Zach, who continues his dogged campaign to own a ridiculous number of Tube Screamers. (They didn't plan their near-matching shirts.)The conversation-starter is the new Jason Isbell “Red Eye,” a $21,999 collector's version of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul that famously belonged to Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd. When King passed away in 2018, the story goes that Isbell wanted the guitar, but couldn't afford it. Zach and Rhett explain how he accrued the capital to snag the axe, and the details behind the new artist edition. But who gets signature guitars, anyway? Some iconic players, like John Frusciante—so easily identified with his Strats—still don't have their own model. Is he being snubbed, or choosing to keep his name off a mass-produced guitar? Maybe some guitarists feel signatures are too corporate—which could also explain why Jack White has, so far, not lent his name to a model. (Though pedals are a different story.) And what about massively popular YouTube guitar stars and influencers—have they earned the right to be in the running for a signature 6-string?Later, Zach and Rhett dig into the economics of siggys—how much do their namesakes actually earn from the sale of their personal brand?—and debate Slash's bombshell move from Marshall to Magnatone.Subscribe, like, and leave us a commentSign up on our mailing list: http://eepurl.com/iaCee5Support us on Patreon for access to our discord server and other perks! https://www.patreon.com/dippedintoneMERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/dipped-in-toneFollow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/dippedintone Dipped in Tone is:Rhett Shull https://www.rhettshull.com/Zach Broyles / Mythos Pedals https://mythospedals.comPremier Guitar https://www.premierguitar.com/

Pyle survived the band's tragic 1977 plane crash that took six lives, including Steve and Cassie Gaines, along with the band's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. "This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it they will understand why it took so long," says Len Snow, Get Joe Records president. He would replace their original drummer (Bob Burns) following the release of the group's second album, Second Helping, and performed with the band and on Skynyrd's subsequent four albums,Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors, and their live album, One More for the Road. Pyle was injured but survived the band's 1977 horrific plane crash that abruptly ended the lives of six people, including band members Steve and Cassie Gaines, and most notably, frontman and musical visionary Ronnie Van Zant.In 1979, the band began to reunite, first for the 5th Annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, and eventually, as the Rossington Collins Band (which included all the remaining band members and Pyle, plus Dale Krantz on lead vocals and Barry Lee Harwood on guitar). However, shortly after that, Pyle was in a car accident that broke his leg in 21 places and shattered his hopes of remaining with the group. Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. While he deeply loved them, he no longer felt the magic he once did with Van Zant at the helm, nor was he interested in returning to the party lifestyle for which the band was known and stepped away from the group permanently, only to return in 2006 during Lynyrd Skynyrd's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he played alongside Bob Burns). Now in his 70s, Pyle still continues to honor Van Zant's musical legacy, recording and touring with the Artimus Pyle Band, now comprised of Pyle (drums), Scott Raines (guitar/vocals), Jerry Lyda (guitar) Brad Durden (keyboards/vocals), and Dave Fowler (bass).https://artimuspyleband.com/https://www.amazon.com/Anthems-Honoring-Music-Lynyrd-Skynyrd/dp/B0CKH9X2WHBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.

About a month from this post Tales Vinyl Tells will celebrate being a podcast for four years. 116 episodes deep, some replays, truth be told, and over 1,000 unique songs played, here's another hour of the great album rock of the 60s and 70s! Wasn't that dramatic? I do want to say thanks for listening and share my hope for many more episodes/years/spins/replays. You can experience the real live radio show at 5 PM Wednesdays on RadioFreeNashville.org. That's the best listening experience I think. Those of you in Canada, The Philippines, New Zealand get better reception that way. Also, thank you to all you supporters of TVT through the Patron Program at Podbean.com. I appreciate each of you greatly. The link again is Patron.podbean.com/talesvinyltellssupport. This episode is about change, a song that took 44 years to put together (Beatles) and a salute to Ed King. You'll recognize his sound. Did you ever have a marble vinyl? More on these notes are in this episode of Tales Vinyl Tells. Hear it here and on a whole bunch of podcast apps.
This week is the third in the ‘talking to psychology teachers' series and Ed King shares some insights into expectancy-value theory and how it drives motivation as well as some practical tips on how to work on both expectancy and value to increase student (and our own) motivation in the classroom. Student's Achievement can be determined by two factors: Expectancy & value - These two interact to predict outcomes such as engagement, continuing interest, and academic achievement. I stand corrected about Jimmy Buffett's success, not to mention his impact on our culture. I mentioned on the radio show and podcast the numbers of recordings. Here are the facts: 32 studio albums, 11 compilation albums, 14 live LPs, one soundtrack LP and 67 singles! Jimmy was a very busy guy. He brought out the “party” in people. He also got melancholic. Like He Went to Paris. He wrote after meeting a musician, a one-armed veteran of the Spanish Civil War. It was a song he rarely played live and found out that Bob Dylan liked the song, and it was later recorded by Waylon Jennings and Doug Supernaw. Thank you, Jimmy and if you don't mind, save us a place in the next room. There's also a new journey we're on to hear where some successful artists were before they gained their star. Tom Petty's Mudcrutch, Ed King's Strawberry Alarm Clock and Skynyrd and so on. This time it's Gerry Rafferty, with 3 different groups. Good stuff. Fairly historical. Hope you like. Sure, there's a boatload of great LP cuts from the 60s and 70s. Your financial support of Tales Vinyl Tells is so appreciated from all who have already signed up and those who will in the future. Maybe today? Check out my story at patron.podbean.com/talesvinyltellssupport. Hat tip and thanks to each and all of you for listening/reading/sharing. Listen live at 5PM Central time on RadioFreeNashville.org, in Nashville at 103.7 & 107.1 FM, and the podcast is a replay of the radio program on http://www.studiomillswellness.com/tales-vinyl-tells, as well as a lot of podcast spots, Google, Apple, Spotify etc.

When Bill Gargan was fired from Martin Kane he planned to star in a Broadway rendition of Doctor Knock. In late September of 1951, Gargan signed a one-million-dollar contract that made him the exclusive property of NBC for the next five years. The deal required him to participate in a minimum of four guest spots on radio and TV each year. At the same time, Gargan was invited by Frank Folsom of RCA to accompany him to Rome to meet the Pope. Along the way, Gargan went to Paris to appear in the October 7th, 1951 episode of The Big Show. He participated in a sketch involving a poker game with George Sanders, Fernand Gravey, and Meredith Willson. Two weeks after his Big Show appearance, William Gargan was starring in a new series for NBC. Launched as part of NBC's year-long Silver Jubilee, Barrie Crane, Confidential Investigator, first aired over NBC from New York on Wednesday October 3rd, 1951 at 10PM eastern time. Bill Gargan debuted as the detective opposite Mr. President on ABC, Frank Edwards on Mutual, and boxing on CBS. The show was directed by the just-heard Himan Brown. By 1952 Brown had been involved in radio for decades. The Barrie was inspired by the nickname of William Gargan's oldest son, then twenty-two. The title of the show was soon changed to Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator. Episode three was called “The Judge and The Champ.” In conjunction with NBC's twenty-fifth anniversary, the network launched a series of both Radio and TV offerings highlighting the growth of NBC's technology, talent, infrastructure and advertising success. Block-sharing advertising was in full-effect. The network sold commercial time spots, rather than full shows and called it “Operation Tandem.” Gargan was back on The Big Show the next March 16th, 1952 to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Tallulah Bankhead and good friend and fellow Catholic, Fred Allen. Now with transcription wide-spread, Barrie Craig could be heard on different days each week, based on the region. Listeners would also hear different commercials, depending on what local affiliate they were tuning into. These could also be a mix of local and national ad spots. Blocked-sharing was being used by the other networks. ABC touted theirs as 'The Pyramid Plan,' CBS as The Power Plan, and Mutual called their's MBS Plus. In a further refinement of MBS Plus, Mutual introduced an exclusive package of MGM programming for 1952. Both The Adventures of Harry Lime, and The Black Museum aired as part of this deal. For more information, tune into Breaking Walls episode 141. Launched with their tandem plan, NBC provided a "pay as you sell" opportunity for local affiliates. Local sponsors could pick from one-hundred-nineteen one-minute spots. The goal was to accommodate sponsors without a long contract. Craig occupied an office on the third floor of the Mercantile Building on Manhattan's Madison Avenue. Barrie Craig's writers included Frank Kane, Louis Vittes, John Roeburt, and Ernest Kinoy. William Gargan was supported by some of the finest east coast voice talents of the era. This included Santos Ortega, Elspeth Eric, Arlene Blackburn, Barbara Weeks, Joan Alexander, Parker Fennelly, Arnold Moss, Luis Van Rooten, and Herb Ellis. NBC announcers included Don Pardo and Ed King with John Daly as spokesperson for 1952 Pontiac spots and Carl Caruso for Bromo-Seltzer spots.
Ed King is a cartoonist doing one of the coolest projects I have heard of making a cartoon map of downtown Chapel Hill NC and it is a great idea, companies can pay a small fee for sponsorship and then have their company be on the map with a large logo.Ed had a lot of insight about life and for a second ep we have planned he has actually worked many jobs in construction. Enjoy
Ed King calls us to tell his incredible story of a harrowing experience, a second chance and a renewed outlook! It's a helluva story!
Lynyrd Skynyrd emerged from Jacksonville, Florida and became titans of the Southern Rock scene. Battling their way up from adversity, the rowdy & rough-and-tumble bunch finally signed with MCA and released their debut album Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd in August of 1973. It went double platinum and saw them open The Who's Quadrophenia Tour which helped them get exposure to a larger audience. It was the foundation for the bands epic run of success until a horrible tragedy in 1977 derailed the bands trajectory and the lives of the members. Ronnie Van Zant may not have been the most talented singer in the world but he was a menacing front man who doesn't get the credit he deserves for his poignant lyrics that everyone can relate to. Though the band would eventually be known for their 3 guitar attack, Ed King would play bass on this album before Leon Wilkeson rejoined the band in 1973 and then Ed fell in with fellow gunslingers Allen Collins and Gary Rossington. Ed even helped write a song at the end of sessions for the first album which would wind up on Second Helping and would become the biggest hit they ever had, Sweet Home Alabama. Tascosa, Texas, in those turbulent times of the 1880s, epitomized lawlessness and chaos. It was a place where legends were born, and outlaws roamed freely. The echoes of Billy the Kid's footsteps still reverberated through its dusty streets, mingling with the shadowy presence of Dave Rudabaugh, John Selman, Henry Newton Brown, Charlie Siringo, and countless other fabled figures who had left their indelible mark on the annals of the Old West. And by the time of the “Big Fight” aka the Gunfight at Jenkins Saloon, Tascosa was still as wild as ever. The LS Ranch, located on the outskirts, harbored a band of ex-Rangers whose reputations preceded them. These LS boys were known for their heavy-handedness and soon were bestowed with the moniker of barroom gladiators. It all came to a head on the fateful day of March 21st, 1886. It was then that Ed King, a bona fide barroom gladiator, rendezvoused with his paramour and dance-hall gal, Sally Emory, just beyond the threshold of Jenkins Saloon. Unbeknownst to King, Sally's ex-boyfriend was waiting. Also mentioned in this episode: Tascosa's Boot Hill, Hogtown, the music of Charley Crockett, and a saloon girl with a heart of gold by the name of Frenchy McCormick. October is a big month for the Littleton Food Co-op. So big that we needed two new podcast episodes to fit in everything we wanted to say! On the last episode of That's Rad (Episode XVI: Equal Exchange), we talked about fair trade and sourcing on a broader, global scale. Now, host Anastasia sits down with Littleton Food Co-op General Manager Ed King to discuss how fair trade and other “specialty sourcing” labels and certifications affect our own co-op. Find out how we choose what goes on the shelves, labels we trust, and Ed's personal advice for being a “smart shopper.” We know you didn't know there would be a bonus October episode, but we promise that this one beats all of your expectations. The Littleton Food Co-op is Littleton, NH's only community owned marketplace, and your premiere destination for all the products with all the labels you want to see. You can find products that are fairly sourced, organically raised, free range, and more, all delivered with great customer service. Find out why everyone's rushing to the Co-op for local organic produce, fine cheeses, meats, bulk foods, craft beers–the list goes on! In addition to product packaging, many sourcing types such as organic, local, and non-GMO are labeled on the shelves. Plus, look for the new orange “Inclusive Trade” shelf tags to indicate which products have been certified in offering fair wages and labor practices for their producers. Co-op membership is another great way to make changes in your food system, but no membership is required to shop at the Co-op. All are welcome! Stop by in store any day of the week to learn more about membership and see all the store has to offer. Or visit us online at littletoncoop.com.

RockerMike and Rob discuss Lynyrd Skynyrd Lynyrd Skynyrd (/ˌlɛnərd ˈskɪnərd/ LEN-ərd SKIN-ərd) is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida. The group originally formed as My Backyard in 1964 and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocalist), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar) and Bob Burns (drums). The band spent five years touring small venues under various names and with several lineup changes before deciding on "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in 1969. The band released its first album in 1973, having settled on a lineup that included bassist Leon Wilkeson, keyboardist Billy Powell and guitarist Ed King. Burns left and was replaced by Artimus Pyle in 1974. King left in 1975 and was replaced by Steve Gaines in 1976. At the height of their fame in the 1970s, the band popularized the Southern rock genre with songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". After releasing five studio albums and one live album, the band's career was abruptly halted on October 20, 1977, when their chartered airplane crashed, killing Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines, and seriously injuring the rest of the band. https://lynyrdskynyrd.com/ https://m.facebook.com/LynyrdSkynyrd https://open.spotify.com/artist/4MVyzYMgTwdP7Z49wAZHx0 https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/lynyrd-skynyrd https://www.rollingstone.com/feature/remembering-lynyrd-skynyrds-deadly-1977-plane-crash-2-195371/amp/ https://mobile.twitter.com/skynyrd?lang=en https://www.instagram.com/skynyrd/?hl=en #musicvideo #musicstudio #musiclover #musiclife #musicindustry #musiclovers #musiccover #musician #LynyrdSkynyrd #musicproducer #musicproduction #musicians #musicislife #musicartist #musicphotography #musicvideos #Music #Punk #drummer #Guitar @drummers @spotify @twitter @LynyrdSkynyrd Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ https://app.hashtag.expert/?fpr=roberto-rossi80 https://dc2bfnt-peyeewd4slt50d2x1b.hop.clickbank.net Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support
Letterkenny Live at the Fox Theatre, Atlanta Welcome to The Guys Review, where we review media, products and experiences. **READ APPLE REVIEWS/Fan Mail**Mention Twitter DM group - like pinned tweet @The_GuysReviewRead emails theguysreviewpod@gmail.comTwitter Poll Fox Theatre The 4,665 seat theatre was built in 1929 as part of a as part of a large Shrine Temple, but was ultimately developed into a lavish movie theatre. The principal architect of the project was Olivier Vinour of the firm Marye, Alger and Vinour. The design is supposed to replicate an Arabian courtyard, complete with 96 flickering lights and clouds that move across the ceiling. There is an Egyptian Ballroom that is designed after a temple for Ramses II at Karnak while the mezzanine Ladies Lounge features a replica of the throne chair of King Tut and makeup tables that feature tiny Sphinxes. The theater opened on December 25, 1929, just two months after the stock market crash. Originally build for the shriners, when the project went over budget, they leased the building to William Fox, a movie mogul who was building theaters around the country at the time. The theatre closed December, 1932, 125 weeks after it opened due to the Shriners defaulting on the mortgage and Fox going bankrupt. It was purchased by Paramount Pictures and Lucas & Jenkins, a Georgia company that owned a hundred theatres. In the 1940's the Fox because one of the most popular locations, with the Egyptian room drawing big bands and country and western swing bands of the era. It was notable for being the only club in Atlanta at the time that would allow both black and white patrons. Though still segregated, with a seperate entrance that still remains today at the back of the theatre for historical purposes. The Fox would fully integrate in 1962 In the 70's there was a decline in the theatre attendance, and was almost sold to AT&T with plans to tear it down and put a parking deck in its place, but was ultimately subverted by a group and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 1974. Celebrities that assisted saving the Fox include Liberace and Lynyrd Skynyrd (recording their first live album there and debuting guitarist Ed King's replacement, Steve Gaines, to the world). The U.S. Department of the Interior subsequently named the Fox a National Historic Landmark on May 26, 1976, citing its architectural uniqueness. Currently, the Fox is the only remaining movie palace in Atlanta, being run by the non-profit group, Atlanta Landmarks, Inc. An estimated 750,000 people visit the Fox every year. The venue was the site of Prince's final performance, held one week before his death on April 21, 2016. Notable acts who have played the Fox are Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, Pearl Jam, the Allman Brothers, Ray Charles, James Brown, B-52s, A fun bit of trivia... When the shriners built the theatre, they built a 3,640 sq/ft office space in the theatre that was converted into an apartment that Joe Patten, the technical director from 1974 to 2004, occupied with a rent free lease for life. Patten died in 2016. Since then, the space has been unoccupied, but there is a passageway leads from the bedroom to a former spotlight platform at the top of the auditorium. Thoughts and impressions of the Fox theatre? Would you visit again? Special thanks to Megan George and Aly Grubb for the media tickets they gave us, they were fantastic seats. Letterkenny Live Produced by New Metric media Staring:Jared KeesoNathan DalesK. Trevor WilsonMichelle MylettMark ForwardTyler JohnstonDylan PlayfairAndrew HerrEvan Stern Letterkenny live was started back in 2018, with only Jared Keeso, Nathan Dales, K. Trevor Wilson, and Mark Forward. Michelle Mylett joined in 2019, and Johnston, Playfair, Herr and Stern joining 2020. Though, the 2020 tour was, of course, postponed indefinitely in March. The dates were not announced to be rescheduled on July 19, 2021. Based on the show of the same name, the stage performance consists of some old, reworked, and new sketches with the cast. Including a set of stand up by Mark Forward and K. Trevor Wilson... and as themselves, not in costume. Which is funny because they reference the actors may resemble the characters. Letterkenny, the tv show, debuted on Crave tv in canada in Feburary 2015, which was based on the YouTube channel Keeso developed called Letterkenny Problems. It arrived in the US in July 2018 on Hulu who now owns exclusive distribution rights in the US. Its been nominated and won numerous Canadian screen awards, including best comedy series, best directing for Jacob Tierney (who directs all the episodes of Letterkenny), Best Lead Actor for Jared Keeso, even technical awards like best editing and best photography for the Sleepover episode. Back to Letterkenny live, Mark Forward, as Coach, welcomed everyone to the show and then informed us that due to an injury, Taylor Johnston who plays Stewart will not be performing that night... Which prompts some boos, and I yelled that it's fucking embarrassing... Which Coach agreed with. Roald then comes on stage and addresses the crowd, being weird and funny, then the hicks start coming on stage. Staring with Squirrely Dan, followed by Katy, then Dary, finally Wayne enters to thunderous applause. They do some back and forth, and crowd interaction with How're ya now? The crowd yells back, Good'n you?! It was fun. They exit the stage and Reily and Jonesy come on and do a bit talking about hockey, referencing the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team, when we hear Shoresy start chirping them from the toilet as he did in the show... But Shorseys chips also work in local attractions and themes, like coke and hot chicken. This goes for a bit, as usual, but its very engaging and works well. I feel there were more sketches, just a little cross over stuff. Roald then introduces Mark Forward to do a small set of stand up. His humor is very misdirectional, like when he walks on stage, he says things like, "yes, thank you, I'm very good." His set was funny, but I honestly don't remember much from it, but he ended it was a joke/song that he admitted before he started that it was "stupid" Xavier McCutchins, who named bears until the end. After Mark finished, another hick skit ened with Coach telling the hicks people want to see the classics. They started updating the crowd on what everyone else in Letterkenny is upto, also giving the crowd a sneak peek to season 11, and showing a cold open to an episode. They moved to an intermission, during which we were able to move everyone from our original seats to about 7 rows back, right in the center. It was awesome. Going into the second half, they continue giving humorous updates to other characters in letterkenny, as well as showing a preview for Shoresy, and a blooper reel for S10. Followed by K. Trevor Wilson coming on and doing a stand up set. His standup is totally different from Mark Forward, and Squirrely Dans character. His long form, informal storytelling type of jokes were a change of pace. We got another skit of Reilly and Jonesy being chirped by Shoresy, again throwing in references to Atlanta like the Varsity and chili hotdogs. And coach drunkenly talking about barb. The final skit brought back one of the best bits from the show, when the whole cast comes on stage making porn sounds, yes yes yes yes yesing and "aw fuck, aw fuck." The lights go out, the cast had a group hug, as they did their curtain call, they introduced themselves and each said something they loved about Atlanta. Two final bows, and they exit stage right. Lights up, and the show is over. Thoughts on the show? Would you go again? We speak with two Mississippi Civil Rights veterans on Lewis' contributions and legacy.Plus, after a Southern Remedy Health Minute, the flag commission hears from a vexillologist as it prepares to submit a new design to the Legislature.Segment 1:With cases, hospitalizations, and ICU utilization at their sustained highest levels, Mississippi is experiencing it's most severe month of the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Tate Reeves has issued mask mandates in 29 counties, and placed other restrictions on bars and social gatherings. Reeves says its important for residents to understand the virus spares no community. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says while levels of transmission have stabilized, the hard truth is family interaction is still driving the spread. With more communities considering virtual options, the question of internet access has peculated. Reeves introduced a new program to addressed those growing concerns. Mississippi is using federal CARES Act funds and partnerships with electrical Co-Ops to invest more than $150 million dollars to bring broadband internet to un-served and under-served homes and businesses. Sally Doty, Executive Director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff, says the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted how important internet access is.Segment 2:Civil Rights icon and "conscience of the Congress" Representative John Lewis will return to Georgia today, to lie in state in the Georgia state capitol ahead of his funeral tomorrow. Lewis was in instrumental figure in the fight for civil rights, helping lead Mississippi's Freedom Summer in 1964. Retired Methodist Reverend and activist Ed King was with Lewis that summer. He recalls what made Lewis a prominent leader during turbulent times. Hezekiah Watkins was a mere teenager when he became a foot-soldier in the fight for civil rights. He tells us how he became acquainted with John Lewis after both men spent time in Parchman State Penitentiary.Segment 3:Southern Remedy Health MinuteSegment 4:The team appointed to select a new flag design for the November ballot is sorting through over 1,000 public submissions. The commission, formed via the statute to retire the 1894 flag, met for the second time yesterday at the Two Mississippi Museums. Scot and Jeff discuss Lynyrd Skynyrd with Mark Davis. Introducing the Band: Your hosts Scot Bertram (@ScotBertram) and Jeff Blehar (@EsotericCD) with guest Mark Davis. Mark is a talk show host at 660 AM The Answer in Dallas-Ft. Worth and can be heard filling in on shows nationally for the Salem Media Group. He's also a columnist for the Dallas Morning News and Townhall.com. Find him online @markdavis on Twitter. Mark's Music Pick: Lynyrd Skynyrd What song is it you want to hear? If you answered “Free Bird!”, chances are this episode on Lynyrd Skynyd is for you. The band, pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd, of course, formed in Jacksonville back in the 1960s and essentially invested their own genre of music, fusing blues, rock, country, and “swamp music” to define 1970s southern rock. Ronnie Van Zant wrote the lyrics and led his band to a major label deal following years of honing their craft for hours a day in the “Hell House.” What emerged were two of the finest albums of the classic rock era and a string of memorable tales while working for MCA. We discuss the band's not-so-secret weapon in Ed King and dive into the back stories of “Sweet Home Alabama.” Tragically, the band's prime years were cut short following a plane crash in 1977, just months after adding guitarist Steve Gaines to the lineup, reinvigorating the group's sound. Van Zant, Gaines, his sister Cassie, and three others were killed; other band members suffered brutal injuries. The less said about subsequent reunions, the better, though it is covered in the show. Give a fresh listen to the music of one of the finest American rock bands of all time. Don't forget to turn it up!
