Raise your hand if you've ever yelled at your child? And in the moment it felt good to blow off some steam, but afterward, you feel terribly guilty, right? We know how it feels because we used to be serial screamers. Thankfully, both of us have learned and grown through these experiences. In episode 122, Daniel and Christina share what it means to be a mindful parent and how we can learn to respond to our feelings of stress, anger, and frustration, instead of scream.   In This Episode, You Will Hear About: What mindful parenting is Why we tend to scream at our kids when we are stressed How to recognize your emotional triggers and hotspots The importance of self-care 3 key factors to mindful parenting: Notice your own feelings when you’re in conflict with your child Learn to pause before responding in anger Listen carefully to a child’s viewpoint even when you disagree with it Resources Mentioned During the Episode: Episode 102: How Our Brains React In Crisis Episode 91: Why COVID Is Making Us Break Up With Our Phones Episode 108: 7 Keys To Resiliency For The Exhausted Parent The Whole Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind by Daniel Siegel Mindful Parenting: Simple and Powerful Solutions for Raising Creative, Engaged, Happy Kids in Today’s Hectic World by Kristen Race Printable Feeling Wheel by The Gottman Institute Quotes and Tweets: We get to model to our kids how grown-ups react to stress. We can teach our kids that they can pause and choose to respond instead of yell. But, it starts with us. @imbetweenshow Mindful parenting means learning to manage our own emotions and behaviors in order to teach our kids how to manage theirs. It’s learning to regulate ourselves before we can model regulation for our children. @imbetweenshow Unfortunately, when we’re stressed out, exhausted, and overwhelmed, we can’t be available for our children. @imbetweenshow Mindful parenting does not mean being the perfect parent. @imbetweenshow Being a mindful parent means that you pay attention to what you’re feeling. @imbetweenshow Mindful parenting means that instead of pulling out your phone to mindlessly scroll to ignore what you are feeling, you choose to ask yourself, “What is going on in my mind, my heart, and my body?” @imbetweenshow Mindful parenting does not mean that you will not get angry or upset, but acting on these difficult emotions mindlessly is what compromises our parenting. @imbetweenshow We get to choose how we respond and how we react if we take the time to slow down. @imbetweenshow Self-care is not selfish, it is necessary. @imbetweenshow Subscribe and Connect With Us: Apple Podcasts Stitcher Google Play Spotify Instagram - @imbetweenshow Twitter - @imbetweenshow Facebook - @imbetweenshow Pinterest - @imbetweenshow YouTube - @imbetweenpodcast And don't forget to subscribe to our podcast, so that you will never miss an episode!

What up, Squad! This week's episode is FIRE! We are counting the cost, y'all! It hit me hard this week as I was preparing for this episode when I thought, 'What would have happened if I hadn't made that choice to walk in my purpose and taken those messy first steps after my Mom passed on?'The cost of procrastination is higher than the cost of transformation. (Read that again) Why do I say this? Most people I meet or coach have the mindset (like I did), that as long as something is done, even if it's last minute, that's that! We don't stop and take stock of the full impact of procrastination. Before I mastered my Cavewoman I would wake up everyday and think to myself, 'Okay... I wonder what fire I'm putting out today?' It was truly, truly a day to day struggle, every single day.The biggest thing that procrastination cost me was my peace. And you might be feeling, 'Well... peace is not that important to me.'Sis! Take it from me. If you are not peaceful, you cannot walk in your purpose. You will be a toxic person to be around. It will cost you key relationships like family and friends. It will cost you opportunities; because no one wants to be around negative energy. You will get into time debt!!! What is that? Listen to the episode!!!!My take-outs from this episode (and they are many):You have to get out of the cycle of self-punishment and overcompensation. It is important to eliminate negative self-talk. The things that you tell yourself are as powerful - and I dare say - more powerful than the things other people say to you.Who I'm I denying an opportunity to walk in their purpose because I stopped walking in mine? How many lives are not changed because I didn't meet their need with the gifts and knowledge that I have been blessed with?My challenge to you this week is to take stock. It will renew your determination and motivation to keep pushing through procrastination.Mentioned in this Episode:Episode 000-Welcome to the POP Podcast! What's up Squad!Today's episode is so close to my heart. I am opening up about my own personal struggles with two types of the Special Unicorn Syndrome and how to overcome it. I always admired these boss-women who had it all together – and I still do Sis! They have built amazing side hustles, they have monetized their purpose and everything seems to have fallen perfectly in place in their lives. I used to think that those people were special (more special than I was) and had a unique quality (that I did not have or could not obtain) that made them high achieving. I didn't think I could have what they have, and that is the mindset of many of us. Special Unicorn Syndrome hinders us from walking in our purpose. I know this because it hindered me for many, many years. My take-outs from this episode:Follow the blue-print. There is no point trying to re-invent the wheel.Using the power of positive comparison. Is there a way to fight with your spouse without the argument blowing up into World War III? We previously discussed what to do with perpetual conflicts and how a conflict-free marriage should not be your goal because it’s impossible. On Episode 114, we want to dive deeper into those “solvable conflicts” and how you can fight with your spouse without ruining your marriage.  While conflict is inevitable in a marriage, we’ve learned through experience that there are many different ways we can fight; and some fights may last longer or hurt deeper than we intended because of the “weapon of choice” we choose to battle with. Here are 5 tools you can use during your next argument to help defuse the flames of a fight.  In This Episode, You Will Hear About: The difference between solvable and perpetual conflicts A new model for solving your solvable problems in your marriage 5 steps to helping you fight with your spouse without ruining your marriage:  Soften your start-up Learn to send and receive repair attempts Sooth yourself and each other Finding common ground Address emotional injuries  Questions to ask your spouse about soothing and self-soothing: What makes us feel flooded? How do we bring up issues or complaints? When you feel flooded, is there something I can do to soothe you? How do you think you could soothe me when I feel flooded? What signals can we send each other when we feel flooded so we can take breaks and soothe each other? They are unsolvable. @Gottmaninst How a conversation starts predicts how it will end. @imbetweenshow If you start off your conversation harshly, chances are that the discussion will continue to escalate and it will turn into a full blown fight. @imbetweenshow When a spouse starts the conversation gently, it communicates respect and causes both partners to feel positive about themselves and their marriage. @Gottmaninst Flooding makes repair attempts physically impossible to hear. @Gottmaninst If emotional injuries aren’t addressed, they tend to become constant irritants. @Gottmaninst it's impossible to come to an agreement unless you accept your spouse's flaws and quirks. We all know no one is perfect, but somehow during conflicts, we can get stuck and weighed down by the “if only…” @imbetweenshow Coming to an agreement or compromise is not about one person changing or “giving up". It’s about negotiating and discovering ways to accommodate each other. @Gottmaninst Subscribe and Connect With Us: Apple Podcasts Stitcher Google Play Spotify Instagram - @imbetweenshow Twitter - @imbetweenshow Facebook - @imbetweenshow Pinterest - @imbetweenshow YouTube - @imbetweenpodcast And don't forget to subscribe to our podcast, so that you will never miss an episode!

Today, we're doing things a bit differently. We have a solo episode where I share the biggest things that I've been afraid to speak about publicly and share with different people in my life. Now these aren't a few small things. These are some real hard areas that I've struggled with and have had difficulty sharing out of fear of judgement, shame, and just discomfort. But these are things that could serve as connection points with other people going through similar things.  I hope by sharing these stories and truths, you'd also be encouraged to identify those parts of your lives that you've been afraid to share with others and dare to start breaking down walls in order to build meaningful connections at work, at home, in your company and in love. Also darauf, was Du machen kannst, damit Du dich in einer Verhandlung sicher fühlst. Eric!?! Ja – genau von Eric

This episode is sponsored by Insure the Heroes Inc. 10 years ago, this month, I stepped out of a C-130 and onto the flight line at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. I was about to begin my nine-month deployment to Afghanistan, but the truth was my journey to Afghanistan had actually begun four months earlier when I began my combat skills training in Indiana. The training and deployment ended up lasting 361 days. For this episode, I wanted to talk about what I learned during my training, deployment, coming home and by coming home, I don't usually mean immediately coming home, but years. Going to Afghanistan for me had a huge impact on my life. Before I had kids, I could say there was the Amanda before Afghanistan and the Amanda after Afghanistan. Now there is this window between when I got home from Afghanistan. After being home and how those experiences still affected my life, even though I had been home for years and when I had kids, and then my life kind of changed all over again. But definitely my deployment has played a huge role in who I am today and where I am right now. See the full transcript on the blog here. In today's episode, we are joined by Ivy Gales and Shani Farmer and we discuss our experience at Stephan Speaks "You Deserve It: Love, Happiness and Success" tour. We touch on the highlights of the conference, what we liked, what we didn't like so much, and our general thoughts on the pressure single women feel to be more desirable and approachable by men. Here's what to expect: Shani shares her own relationship journey, how she introduced the idea of celibacy to her now husband, and how she had to learn to tap into her feminine power to allow him to lead the direction of the relationship. Ivy explains how witnessing her parents' 42-year old marriage has helped her to remain optimistic as a single woman; and her desire to be chased and led in a relationship. Sherry expresses her frustration with the narrative of the single black woman who cannot get a man because she's not feminine or vulnerable enough, and that she's to blame for being single. Child, this was a deep one. It's also a long one. But listen to the full episode for all of the gems, we promise you won't regret it. Plus, Shani and Ivy share their favorite no small talk conversations starters. The disappearance of a child would kick off one of Australia's most scandalous chapters. On June 14th, 1997, Greg Domaszewicz offered to babysit for his girlfriend, Bilynda Murphy. He drove off with her 14-month-old son Jaidyn that afternoon, promising to drop off the boy with a babysitter later in the evening. However, Jaidyn would never be seen by another living soul again. Whatever happened during that fateful day would lead to the disappearance of poor Jaidyn, whose body wouldn't be discovered until January of 1998... How did all of the Halloween candy make you feel? Did you have a bunch around you for several days? Maybe the first day you ate more than you bargained for? Day 2, maybe it didn't see as exciting. Day 3, by now it really may have lost its appeal. Day 4... you're so over candy, right?  This is an example of the "habituation effect" as outlined in principal 3 of the Intuitive Eating book by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole.  The more you hang around a food, allow yourself to eat it, and tell yourself you can always have more, the less that food will have power over you.  On the flip side, if you restrict a food, refer to it as "off limits" or "forbidden", the more likely you will crave that food and eventually overeat or binge on the food.  The goal of the "habituation effect" is to stop any "forbidden fruit" thinking that leads causes us to obsess and binge on a food. The end result is making peace with that food. Listen to this latest episode to learn more and why practicing the habituation effect is essential to healing your relationship with forbidden foods.  Mentioned in this Episode: Episode 20: Eating Disorder Prevention and Body Positive Parenting with Zoë Bisbing and Leslie Bloch Episode 19: Stop Dieting and Embrace Body Changes with Erica Leon, MS, RD, CEDRD Alison's 8-week online intuitive eating coaching -------------------------------------------------------- If you are enjoying my podcast, please go to iTunes and leave a 5-star rating and review!! The enigmatic Shadow Brokers, who seemingly disappeared in January of 2017, would break their silence just three months later.Following the destruction of a Syrian airbase in April 2017, the Shadow Brokers returned to continue their campaign of cyber-terror. They lashed out at President Trump (and others) in deranged posts online, and began to leak more exploits and tools allegedly stolen from the NSA's most secretive units. This time, however, the intelligence they leaked would go on to have devastating effects in the real world. In August of 2016, a mysterious hacker collective began releasing files and folders stolen directly from the NSA.Many of the programs this person or group released appeared to be legitimate cyber-weapons, which had been developed by U.S. intelligence. Despite the audaciousness of their posts - which became more immature and unhinged as time went on - the files they released seemed to have come directly from an NSA server. A leak of this magnitude had never been seen before, and the cyber-intel community struggled to stop the bleeding. But over the next several months, the Shadow Brokers would continue to wage a one-sided campaign against their sworn enemy: a secretive branch of the NSA nicknamed the "Equation Group"...
