Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We're back at full strength once again, and we've got all sorts of video gaming goodies to discuss, so let's get right into it... John gets things started off with a proper shoutout to Fields of Mistria, which has only come up briefly in passing on previous "Save it for the 'cast!" episodes. Kevin takes the torch from there, and gets into some of his first impressions on FTL: Faster Than Light, now that he's finally had a chance to check it out, nearly 13 years after its initial release! Finally, we wrap things up in rare fashion with a brand new game that we've all been playing (and eagerly anticipating), Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders. Timestamps: Fields of Mistria - 00:01:43 FTL: Faster Than Light - 00:12:34 Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders - 00:28:24 Thanks for taking the time to listen! A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool
In 2011-2012, the gaming world was in flux. While iconic figures like Sonic celebrated milestones, the industry grappled with newfound freedoms and responsibilities, thanks to the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Brown vs. Entertainment Merchants Association. This decision affirmed video games as expressive art, prompting developers to venture into uncharted territories. Meanwhile, controversies swirled, from the PlayStation Network hack in retaliation to Sony's lawsuit against George 'Geohotz' Hotz, to EA's contentious "Project Ten Dollar" and the emergence of loot boxes. Amid this, Epic Games unveiled Fortnite, hinting at future trends. 2012 saw Sony's PlayStation Vita and Nintendo's Wii U launch, with both navigating murky waters. The Vita battled its identity amidst the mobile gaming surge and the cross-buy initiative's challenges, while the Wii U grappled with marketing missteps. Yet, as consoles stumbled, PC gaming surged, and esports, bolstered by Twitch's rise, began its mainstream march. This period encapsulated the industry's transformative journey, marked by innovation, challenges, and the reshaping of gaming's cultural footprint.Featured Games:The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Portal 2, Dark Souls, Beyond Good & Evil, Halo Reach, Mass Effect 3, Battle Toads, Max Payne 3, Journey, FTL: Faster Than Light, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, The Walking Dead, & Halo 4. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ (00:00) - Episode 9 (00:06) - 2011 (27:22) - 2012 Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme

Welcome to VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast: Episode 28 - the best game to play while you wait for Starfield. This week's topic has come about because of two things: Firstly, we're desperate to do anything Starfield related because we are a games website and people click on articles about Starfield. But, rudely, it hasn't come out yet, so we have to get creative. I say creative. I mean, we have to go on about it on podcasts and things. Secondly, we're scraping the barrell and letting Jim pick them now, and he won't ever shut up about Star Trek or Morrowind, so obviously he won't shut up about Bethesda's upcoming blend of those things either. It's like they're making a game for him specifically, as if he deserves it. Where's my Bethesda game about stuff I like? Why can't I have an open world RPG about pining for Project Gotham Racing and watching Lovejoy? Cast: Tom Orry (me), Alex Donaldson, Dom Peppiatt, and Jim Trinca. Our picks this week (SPOILERS AHEAD): Alex - No Man's Sky Alex chose this because it's an open world game set in space. Hahaha. Loser. Dom - FTL Dom has this to say about FTL, a rubbish game that should have lost: “I have never let myself gamble; I'm too compulsive, and I have an addictive personality. So I scratch that itch with other things – 1000+ lifetime hours in Binding of Isaac say hello. So if I want to placate the craving in my brain for risk/reward and harvest that lovely dopamine payoff, I use games… and what better way to prime my mind for Starfield than a space game that gives me intermittent rewards, keeps things random (but logical), and makes failure feel fair. FTL: Faster Than Light is a phenomenal, top-tier video game… that just so happens to be about space exploration and science.” Tom (me) - Morrowind I don't even like Morrowind. I just chose it because Jim loves it and I wanted to win the podcast for once. Please do let us know what you think of the show – and if this is your first time listening, do go back to listen to the previous episodes. If you've got suggestions for topics, send them our way. “What is VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask? Well, it is essentially a 30-minute panel show where people (Jim Trinca and associates) decide on the best game in a specific category. That's it. It's good. Listen to it. This week on the podcast, we add the ship captain simulator roguelike, FTL, to the Endless List. You play the role of the captain of a spaceship bringing critical data on the enemy flagship to your fleet. You must survive a voyage through many different systems and countless enemy foes. You have at your disposal: An endless array of weapons, a motley crew of different aliens and many different ship systems. The possibilities are endless in this game but it's placement on the list will not be. Find out where it ranked on the podcast or in the link here.
It's helpful to look back on how you spent your journey — writing every haiku, dueling every villain, chasing every fox — and asking yourself if it all felt rewarding in some way be it emotionally or otherwise. It's helpful to look forward at the end of your journey and wonder how the world will look different through your new gaze. It's also helpful to ask if the journey is even over at all, or if the island is going to double in size and make you chase like 12-15 more foxes so you can get more skill points or something.Discussed: Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza 0, Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon, MultiVersus, FTL: Faster Than Light, Into the Breach Mobile, Live A Live, Animal Crossing: New Leaf---Find us everywhere: https://intothecast.onlineJoin the Discord: https://theworstgarbage.onlineFollow Stephen Hilger: https://twitter.com/StephenHilgerFollow Brendon Bigley: https://twitter.com/brendonbigley---Produced by AJ Fillari: https://twitter.com/ajfillariSeason 5 Cover Art by Scout Wilkinson: https://scoutwilkinson.myportfolio.com/---Join the Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/intothecastThanks to all of our amazing patrons!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Hey everyone today we're playing FTL: Faster Than Light. I got the idea because Dan and Brian from the Milkin' It cast did the game on their youtube. The play ran long, so we're splitting it out over the next three days. If you want to see the video footage of the play, check out the Patreon.
This week, the boys discuss certain hot takes they each have about media, to either the surprise or agreement of their peers. As always, email your questions to askthebacklog@gmail.com The outro for this week is from FTL:Faster Than Light, and is a personal favorite track of mine. Theres a bit about 3 minutes in that really defines FTL as a game so well.

After the endgame slog of Final Fantasy X-2, we decided to take a vacation - to space. Today we're discussing FTL: Faster Than Light, the classic game of death in space. Lots and lots of death. And theoretically an ending, not that any of us can get there. Maybe someday. Maybe. Probably not. But maybe. 01:06 - We've not talked about it before, but Sam absolutely LOVES vinegar. So much so that he gives his chips a "double soak", which is about as eye-wateringly acidic as you think. 05:24 - What we HAVE talked about before is seasonal playlists for music, and it being Summer, we think Loffee is the perfect accompaniment to this time of year. 10:23 - Kris went to Dortmund and had a lovely time of it, but he discovered two shocking things. 1) that he actually does like beer (when it's accompanied by fruit and / or vodka), and 2) that you can swap out the sausage from “pigs in blankets” for an entirely unexpected ingredient and it's pretty hecking tasty. 16:05 - XCOM 2 is "probably my favourite game" says Sam, and it's got to partly be due to the fact you can name your characters. And on that note... 17:58 - Dan's been playing FTL: Faster Than Light and Sam's been playing Into the Breach, both of which are from Subset Games and in both of which you can re-name your characters (so that's an immediate thumbs up, obviously). They both talk about why they're enjoying these games so much, delving into FTL's roguelike spaceship-em-up and Into the Breach's mech puzzle strategy. 35:36 - This section is all about Sam’s Leaking Pipe™. 41:00 - Dan's thrown more money at the upcoming Shenmue III, to snag himself a physical copy of the game. So it feels like a good time to discuss why the originals were so pioneering back in the day and, to some extent, how they were very demanding of their players. 52:09 - And we have another question to read out, this time courtesy of Richard from We're Not Wizards, and it's all about tattoos and cannibalism, so that's nice. If YOU would like to send us a question about tattoos, cannibalism, or something else entirely, then DM us on Twitter or Facebook, or send us an e-mail via stayinginpod@gmail.com if that floats your boat. So catch up with Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), and Sam (@MrSamTurner) in this episode and, if you've got this far in the description of this podcast then, hello friend, we would love for you to vote for us over on the PodcastAwards.com, full details of how to do so are right at the start of this episode. Back again with another indie review, we discuss one of Sefran's most anticipated games of 2018; Into the Breach. Into the Breach is by Subset Games. Their previous game is FTL: Faster Than Light. In the show we compare it to Advance Wars. The music was composed by Ben Prunty. Intro/Outro music: JACKS - Runaway Fashion.
A DIFFERENT WAY TO GAME: Andrew has been playing through Fallout 4 on a survivalist mode, which dramatically changes the way he normally plays Fallout. This week, we explore several "Unorthodox" titles: How To Play the spiritual sequel to "FTL: Faster Than Light," "Into the Breach" via PlayOnLinux/wine. As if that were not enough, we also talk about why we are not a fan of "Ion Maiden," along with some excellent alternatives (including "Apocryph," and how to play the early beta, along with "Painkiller: Hell and Damnation."). Finally, we bring the inter-galactic totalitarianism that we all need, with the announcement of our "Space Tyrant" single-campaign live-stream binge. www.bestlinuxgames.com www.twitch.com/skookiesprite
On today's show, Marc, failing extra hard to find the right words, talks about Into the Breach, a fantastic new strategy game from the same folk who brought you FTL: Faster Than Light. In addition to breaching all over the place, Marc also talks about the indie games Switch - Or Die Trying and Where Are My Friends?. Anyway, something-something strategic and anemic, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly not-so-friendly) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks, and, if you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, podcast(s), and all the ridiculous jazz we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. And don't forget, you can also support the site by shopping at Amazon if that's your jam--you can probably buy your favorite blueberry jam on Amazon too.

When the roguelike trend crested several years ago, FTL stood high among its brethren. There wasn't really much like it at the time (and to be honest, there still isn't much like it). Fleeing from an oncoming force of Rebels, a lone ship must make its way across the stars to alert the Federation of the oncoming danger - and perhaps equip itself well enough along the way to defeat the Rebel flagship. It's hard, tactical, and completely different every time you boot up a new game. The team at Subset Games should be very proud of what they achieved. So why are we talking about FTL now? A. Jack has been itching to talk about it for a while, but couldn't get it into a full episode with the co-hosts B. Subset Games' next title, Into the Breach will be launching sometime soon and sometimes it's nice for this show to be somewhat topical. Dan, we need to talk to you about something. Do you… do you play games? It’s just that, we talked about a lot of games this week — a lot of games — and you didn’t seem to have played any of them. We basically covered Telltale’s back catalog plus a fair portion of indie titles over the last few years, and none of them rang a bell for you. Is… is everything alright? If you don’t play games, it’s okay. There’s no problem. We’re here for you. We also need to talk to you about your unhealthy use of save ribbons. Games include FTL: Faster Than Light, Fallout 4, Undertale, Tales from the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, and Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series. Got a question for the show? Join us on Discord or email us at contact@ward-games.com!
