The Genius of ‚I Want To Hold Your Hand‘ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkB5YOuEFCU I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Song made America fall in Love with The Beatles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dFDP-57mB4 Geschichte des Rocks: The Beatles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XfCiwsaVM8 The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple Haze https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSsjtiky9xI The Outsiders Trailer  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVRTWPPvtyU The Outsiders Auditions part 1 of 2  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IreWnGo6U3c The Outsiders Behind the Scenes & Bloopers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNNrsPpLwAg Skatetown USA (1979) - Patrick Swayze Is Goddam Serious https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE7gK6XZNDk Francis Ford Coppola discusses THE OUTSIDERS | Scene Breakdown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CxbUdz5VkQ Elvis - Mystery Train https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njw2oB8oRTs Bevor Billie Eilish berühmt wurde… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wb6eAk-jYU Billie Eilish breaks down her career, from ‚Ocean Eyes‘ to ‚Barbie‘ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZLay3ULIn4 Billie Eilish - The World's a little blurry - Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyWYWJ8hAqc Billie Eilish trifft Klaas im Diner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0AR3fJ6E8E Tiny Desk Concert: Billie Eilish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOAIrUZbOwo Billie Eilish - Chihiro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY_XwvKogC8 She Photographed a Young Whitney Houston Before the Fame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4FBPtKiDqg Flashback: Watch a Very Shy Whitney Houston in Her First ET Interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3Wu8c4AHlk Whitney Houston - Home | Live at The Merv Griffin Show, 1983 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5CeQ3twVaI Whitney Houston on Letterman, September 12, 1985 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWTjDnPRE_s Whitney Houston - DIDN'T WE ALMOST HAVE IT ALL [4K] Saratoga Springs 1987' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKlBVZEjTec Whitney Houston - How Will I Know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3-hY-hlhBg The Story of a true Pop Genius: Michael Jackson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CosCklieXLE Michael Jackson's ‚Billie Jean‘ - Songs that changed Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNlXvMx_u08 Billie Jean - Theory & Arrangement Breakdown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQitUHfngSQ Michael Jackson: Life, Death & Legacy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itpikn__PY4 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (1981 Homedemo) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hp3P4XOT_U  Andy Griffith Show - Opie's Allowance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldotGrmMbYo Happy Days (Intro) S1 (1974) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlmeQv8OTk0 Teeny Weeny Glasses (of beer) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6QSY25cRjU Ron Howard • Interview (Happy Days/American Graffiti/John Wayne/Family) • 1979  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPvJAT6Q4_w Grand Theft Auto Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUM82uBey90 A Beautiful Mind - How Ron Howard Distorts Reality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcxHremA8B8 The Young Rascals - Groovin' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=falI0baGhBQ The Incredible Rise of Zendaya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdYtxfuAQlE Zendaya & Nicole Kidman - Actors on Actors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47-qd6OG1CA VDIDVS - Ligaya https://soundcloud.com/wwweirdkids/vdidvs-ligaya

It came roaring out of the car radio speakers like a sonic boom, powered by Dave Clark's “Air Hammer” pulsating drum beats and Denis Payton's beefy saxophone.  (Clearly, this was inspirational to Clarence Clemons, when crafting Bruce Springsteen's, E-Street sound.) Mike Smith, on double-tracked lead vocal and Vox organ may have looked like the leader, with his cute Paul McCartney face, but without a doubt this was the drummer's party. Dave Clark, (b.1939) is an entrepreneurial former stunt-man, who parlayed his Tottenham sound into a multi-million dollar concern; he owned all his masters from day one, re-releasing them, to universal acclaim, on CD in 1993;  the other song writers in the group shared writing credits with Clark unquestioningly - even if he hadn't written a line. The Dave Clark 5 started as a teenage skiffle group to raise funds for his school football team to go to the Netherlands, and, fittingly, this song became an anthem for several teams throughout the years. Can't you just picture the screaming hordes bellowing GLAD ALL OVER when their team scores a goal?Glad All Over nudged the indomitable Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand off the UK's #1 slot, and the band was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2008. It's the pinnacle of Sunny Songdom - nothing but pure, adrenalized fun.

Both of us were involved in the launch of Mojo 30 years ago in the autumn of 1993 and we dug out our copies of the first issue. As editor Paul Du Noyer said on page 3, it was “our confirmed intention to pitch a wang-dang-doodle – all night long, if necessary.” The cover story was about a sequence from Eat The Document, the film by DA Pennebaker of Bob Dylan's '66 tour that was never released and could only be seen on bootleg VHS cassettes. And this bit was so rare and controversial it had even been deleted from most of the bootlegs - none more niche! – and featured Dylan and John Lennon's stoned ramblings in a black cab after Bob had played the Albert Hall in May ‘66. The piece by Richard Williams also focused on 10 days in the life of Dylan and the Beatles at the time, the kind of specific, deep-end trawl that helped start a whole new wing of rock book publishing. You can see the seeds of the emerging ‘heritage rock' in that first edition too. Mojo have a wonderful 30th anniversary issue out now, by the way. Further logs on this week's conversational fire include … .. why people buy ‘vinyls' when they don't own a record player. … David's story about the HMV security guard who built a shrine to James Last. … the brilliant – and fiercely competitive - mixtapes made and played in music magazines offices. ... the dreadful allegations about Russell Brand and the media rush to cut ties with him. … the band t-shirt favoured by well-heeled businessmen to signify they were once a ‘wild card'. … the Clones Roses, A Band Called Malice … the Dutiful South? … mentioned in despatches: Cat Mother and The All Night Newsboys. … and birthday guest Steve Way on the avenues of discovery encouraged by his love of Paul Weller (including the ruinous pursuit of being a Blue Note completist). Ps Dizzying pop facts: go back 30 years from the launch of Mojo and it's ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand'. Музикална история еп. 20: „I Want To Hold Your Hand“ на „The Beatles“

Darik Podcast

It's one of the biggest songs of all time on this week's episode as JG and Andrew get stuck into I Want To Hold Your Hand. Does the song deserve it's place as one of the most significant tracks in the Beatles' back catalogue? Is the whole more than the sum of its parts? And does it deserve to be the vanguard of the British Invasion in America? Plus there's more Doctor Who and Star Trek references than you're probably expecting, Portugese gets used as an unlikely comparison to something, and the Ed Sullivan show is, of course, gone over in far too much detail.   Rankings: Track-by-track Ranking eMail: beatlesstuffology@gmail.com Twitter: @beatles_ology JG's Blog: Judgementally Reviews...   Produced by: JG McQuarrie

2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' final album, Let it Be. To commemorate the occasion, the remaining members of the band have remixed the album and unleashed an eight-hour-plus documentary directed by Peter Jackson that lays bare the making of the record. For super-fans this video memoir reveals a lot about the messiness of the creative process: The Beatles nearly broke up while making it! Author Tim Riley says that the band approached Let It Be with an aesthetic challenge: to get back to playing as a live band. But the original release of the album deviated from that mission and received mixed reviews. Over the decades, The Beatles have revisited this work with multiple mixes and alternative takes that try to show the original spirit of this direct-to-tape, live album. Charlie and Nate listen back, warts and all, to get to the heart of this enigmatic project. Our biggest and BOLDEST episode yet (also our longest)! The Beatles were surely ready for their big moment...Will Billy and Jay be ready for theirs? Billy and Jay break down Beatlemania from the day John and Paul met in Liverpool to the day of their now iconic performance in New York City on the Ed Sullivan Show. It is on this 5 year journey we see that John, Paul, George, Ringo, Brian Epstein and George Martin were all prepared and poised when THIS song broke them in the USA and then all over the world. Written nose to nose at Jane Asher's parents house on a piano and recorded nose to nose WITHOUT headphones in Abbey Road Studios, I Want To Hold Your Hand is a marvel of writing and recording genius. It highlights a point in The Beatles' career when this collection of brilliant young minds came together to make one of The Beatles most important recordings. The Beatles performed before 18,000 fans at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on August 30, 1964. Among those in attendance were Barry's aunt, Carole Hummel, and family friends Carol "Cris" Crisafulli Johnson, Joan Bacon, and Marie Falzone. Despite the fact that Barry has been a huge Beatles fan since high school, he finally found out about this while discussing our recent Tripping Walruses episode with his aunt! The night before the concert, they stayed at the Lafayette Motel. At 2:15 PM, they left in the back of a fish truck, and a short distance from the Convention Hall, they switched to their waiting tour bus. The Beatles performed their standard 12-song set: Twist And Shout, You Can't Do That, All My Loving, She Loves You, Things We Said Today, Roll Over Beethoven, Can't Buy Me Love, If I Fell, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Boys, A Hard Day's Night, and Long Tall Sally. After the show, The Beatles left the venue in a laundry truck, as their limousine was too conspicuous. That night, they stayed at the Marquis De Lafayette Hotel in nearby Cape May, where they stayed for a few days prior to their September 2nd concert in Philadelphia. During their stay in Atlantic City, John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote two songs for the Beatles For Sale album: Every Little Thing and What You're Doing. Nick Lowe And His Sound - [What's So Funny 'Bout] Peace Love and Understanding (1974) Nick Lowe And His Sound was Nick Lowe backed by Elvis Costello & The Attractions. Art Reynold Singers - Jesus Is Just Alright (1966) This is the first version of the song that went to #35 for The Doobie Brothers.  As the first gospel group to record for Capitol Records, they soon became pioneers in the development of “gospel rock”. Many considered their music too secular for the time. Their first album Tellin’ It Like It Is went on to become one of the biggest selling albums for a new gospel group. “Jesus Is Just Alright” was also covered by The Byrds. Arthur Prysock - Here's To Good Friends (1978) POACA will recall this as being the foundation for the Lowenbrau commercials. But Arthur Prysock's first single came out 20 years before this.  Burton Cummings - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet (1976)  Buzz and Joey - The Willing Conscript (1965) Written by Gary Paxton. Joey Putzer changed his last name to Edmonds and formed a duo with comic Thom Curley. They appeared on Johnny Carson's "Tonight" show and many others. Edmonds later formed a talent agency in Chicago. Chicago Climax Blues Band - Seventh Son (1971)  Emmanuel Lewis - City Connection (Japanese Version ) (1981) Emmanuel Lewis was the little scamp that starred in Webster, opposite Alex Karras. Karras played for the Detroit Lions of the NFL. He (Karras, not Lewis) made four Pro Bowls and was a three-time first-team All-Pro player, but he also missed the 1963 season while serving a suspension for gambling. Many believe that suspension is what kept Karras (again, not the diminutive Lewis) from Canton while he was alive, though Green Bay Packers running back Paul Hornung, who also was suspended for gambling, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986. Emmanuel Lewis was not.  After his playing career, Karras spent time as a professional wrestler and later became a popular actor. In his biggest role, he played Mongo in the 1974 film "Blazing Saddles". He played in the playoffs once, losing to Dallas 5-0. Emmanuel Lewis, as of this entry, has not been nominated for the NFL HOF. For more information on Alex Karras, also known in wrestling circles as "Dick The Bruiser", consult your local library. Or just click this.  Ella Fitzgerald - "Sanford and Son" Theme (Street Beater) (1972)  Vik Venus, Alias: Your Main Moon Man - Everybody's On Strike (1969) This was the B-side of "Moonlight", a space-based cut-in novelty record (ala Dickie Goodman). "Vic Venus" was a pseudonym for Jack Spector, a famous DJ known for his stint at WCMA, the New York City radio station that attached itself to the arrival of The Beatles in America. In fact, WCMA was the first station in the US to play "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Spector hosted the first American performance of the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1964. "Moonlight" made it into the Billboard Top 40, barely. The record used cut-ins of Buddah Records songs exclusively.  James Brown ‎– Fight Against Drug Abuse (1971) Jeannie Piersol - Gladys (1968) Produced by Darby Slick. Watch this video!  Darby was Grace Slick's brother-in-law. His song "Somebody to Love" is still heard around the world.  Julie Ege -  Love (1971) Lou Christie - Love In A Limousine (1997) Pluto - Dat (1976) Went to #6 in the UK. Daughters of Eve - Social Tragedy (1968) This all-female band out of Chicago opened for groups such as The Buckinghams ("Kind of a Drag" ) and was featured as a backing band during local TV programming with Janis Ian to support the release of her song "Society's Child". They released 4 singles. This was their last, a more psychedelic affair than the others. Then they broke up because of...men.  Lou Christie - The One and Only Original Sunshine Kid (1975) Written by the same fellow that wrote: "I Think I Love You". On Elektra Records!? The music business was funny back then.  These next two tracks are from "The Spectrum of Music Level 6" released in 1974 to a world of restless children being forced to sing songs they did not like did not KNOW, and would forget as soon as class was over. BUT SOME OF US REMEMBERED. Here is a video of the unboxing.  Fender Bender (1974) The Cowboy (1974)  This collection (should you want me to make MP3s) contains "Sakura", "Johnny Has Gone For a Soldier", and a tight little medley from "The H.M.S. Pinafore".  Tartan Horde - Bay City Rollers We Love You (1975) More Contractual Obligation chicanery.  The Beach Boys - My Solution (1970) "My Solution" was written by Brian Wilson and recorded on October 31, 1970, shortly before the sessions for the group's album Surf's Up.  In a 1976 interview, Brian said: "We have a song called 'My Solution' which is a very odd song that has chromatic – strange chords, not regular triad chords. The notes are bunched up. It tells the story about how a guy found an old damsel outside his castle and decided to make her part of an experiment. ... It's about a guy who found his solution. It's a very odd, Boris Karloff eerie type of thing, so it's one of our more far-out, left-field things that we've done."  4 years before this, he composed "God Only Knows". I know I mentioned that a lot, but goddamn, drugs will wreck you. STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS! The Groop - A Famous Myth (1969) Midnight Cowboy is one of my favorite soundtracks. I really love this song, especially. The Groop was a harmony-based psychedelic pop and soul vocal quartet, active at the end of the 1960s and releasing one self-titled album. Not to be confused with the other Groop, based in Australia around that time. I know you were going to. Don't.  The Hello People - Jelly Jam (1969) Gotta collect all the records by The Hello People.  Vos Voisins- Ya just de t'ça (1971) Good Montreal prog.  Wallace Collection - My Way Of Loving You (1970) XTC - You're The Wish You Are I Had (Live) (1984) The best group of the '80s and '90s. Lyrics alone, they would be Top 3.  Gino Vannelli - People Gotta Move (1974) Sometimes I sneak in top 40 songs because I love them.

On “Lighten Up Kid,” the band continues to explore the power of self-love and finding confidence within, a theme that has run deep throughout their catalog. “’Lighten Up Kid’ is about trying to find yourself and the strength to keep fighting for what you believe in,” Bundrick said. “It's about being or feeling cut down and hung out to dry but standing up for yourself in the end.”The EP follows the release of 2018’s Sunnyland LP, the band’s 5th full-length album which has streamed over 62 MILLION times and took the band to five continents since its release. A band known for their high-energy and almost non-stop live shows, Mayday Parade had to cancel their North American Tour in support of their newly released single “It Is What It Is” in early April along with several festival appearances slated for this summer. The canceled touring hasn’t stopped them from connecting with fans on a series of live Happy Hours throughout quarantine and earlier this summer, they released a feel-good cover of The Beatles’ classic, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” which featured friends including The Maine’s John O’Callaghan, We The Kings’ Travis Clark, Dan Lambton (Formerly of Real Friends), Knuckle Puck’s Joe Taylor and Grayscale’s Collin Walsh.Fans can also look forward to special themed, ticketed livestreams planned throughout the fall to tide fans (and the band) over until they can return to the road. 2021 is already shaping up to be an exciting year with performances at Riot Fest (Chicago, IL), Four Chord Music Fest (Pittsburgh, PA), Nova Rock Festival (Austria), Greenfield Festival (Switzerland), Hurricane Festival (Germany), and Southside Festival (Germany) with much more on the horizon. For the most up to date information on Mayday Parade, visit their website. Lakeside - Outrageous Master & Edit By Petko Turner Here >> https://hypeddit.com/track/b38llw Formed in Dayton, Ohio, U.S. from the combination of members of two groups - The Montereys and The Nomads. Originally named Ohio Lakeside Express. They met Frank Wilson just before he'd quit Motown and they were signed at ABC Records and they released their debut in 1977 produced by Frank Wilson. In 1978 their manager and friend Dick Griffey founded Solar and signed the group. Norman Whitfield as well had made them an offer for Whitfield Records but Lakeside turned it down. They contributed instead to Willie Hutch' "In Tune" released in Whitfield's label. They also contributed in "Danceland" (from Carrie Lucas' third album in 1979) and produced 7th Wonder's "Stop Before You Break My Heart" (from their third and last album). They would release nine albums at Solar between 1978 - 1990. Their main line up (after several changes) were Otis Stokes (guitar, vocals), Thomas Shelby (lead vocals), Mark Adam Wood, Jr. (lead vocals, keyboards), Stephen Shockley (guitar), Fred Alexander Jr. (drums), Tiemeyer McCain (lead vocals), Marvin Craig (bass), Fred Lewis (2) (percussion), Norman Beavers (keyboards). They became famous for their flamboyant theatrical costumes on their album covers and for the rich, heavy, uplifting funk soul sound. Their biggest legacy remains their 1980 single "Fantastic Voyage" (No.1 in the r'n'b charts, the closest they came to a crossover success - No.55 in the U.S. pop chart) that was included in the soundtrack of 1992's "South Central" and Coolio covered -among other rappers- in 1994. Other big hits are "It's All The Way Live" (No.4 in 1977, R'n'B charts), their cover on The Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand" (1981, No.5, R'n'B charts), "Raid" (1983, No.8 R'n'B charts) and "Outrageous" (1984, No.7 R'n'B charts).

The Dave Clark Five was a part of the British Invasion, in fact their classic, Glad All Over, knocked the Beatles, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” off the top of the UK charts. Dave recently unearthed an amazing performance from his collection, a song he helped pen for a musical that Freddy Mercury sang. He has now stripped it down to just the Queen singer's stunning voice and piano. Dave talks about his friendship with Mercury, the first time they met (Looks like Liza Minnelli!) and the search for this amazing track. He also talks about the Dave Clark Five playing Red Rocks and the only role he turned down as a young stunt actor (it involved dressing in drag and a very famous river).

This Week in Brattleboro History by Joe Rivers and BAMS, et. al. Friday, April 1, 2016 “The Trophies” This podcast of Brattleboro history is sponsored by Brattleboro Savings & Loan, the bank of Brattleboro. It was 52 years ago this week that the Brattleboro-based rock n roll group, “The Trophies” recorded their first record, “Walkin' the Dog.” It became the #1 record in New England and resulted in their signing with a major record label. The Trophies had five members: Paul Oblum, Tom Howes, Richard Erikson, Wayne Harvey and Jack Dunham. In the summer of '64 they performed here in Brattleboro at the Gibson Aiken Center on Monday nights. According to Jack Dunham, the English Invasion was just beginning. In the spring of 1964 the Beatle's appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time and their song “I Want To Hold Your Hand” hit number 1 across the country. It was in this environment that the Trophies adapted the rhythm and blues song “Walkin the Dog” to the Beatles-type sound and recorded it in Boston. (play 1st cut) With the popularity of their new hit single, the Trophies bought a used van from R.S. Roberts, had it painted to look “mod” and headed on the road to gigs in places like Saratoga, NY and Boston. The band was signed by Kapp records and began touring the northeast, promoting their record and playing with the likes of Chubby Checker, Del Shannon, the Shirelles, Dione Warwick and Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. On these tours the Trophies would perform their songs and also act as the backup band for other artists. Jack Dunham says he most enjoyed backing up Chubby Checker and Del Shannon. The Trophies stayed together for four years and then went their separate ways. In 1983 Jack and Richard reunited and formed the Solid Gold Cadillacs with other local musicians. This oldies band performed steadily into the mid 1990's. According to Jack Dunham, two of the five members of the Trophies have passed away…Paul Oblum and Tom Howes. Richard Erikson and Wayne Harvey live a town or two away from Brattleboro and Jack now spends his time in Florida. It was 52 years ago this week that the Trophies recorded their hit 45, Walkin the Dog. We'd like to thank Paul Rounds, Jack Dunham and the crack BAMS galaxy team for the research and ______________ for reading this week in Brattleboro History. Play 2nd cut

By the time I Want To Hold Your Hand was recorded (October 1963), EMI had installed 4-track recorders at Abbey Road. The results are immediately audible: guitars are double tracked amd distributed over different tracks. The Single was - of course - released in glorious mono. Since I Want To Hold Your hand was not included on With The Beatles, no stereo version was released in the UK. it features on a Capitol album in the US in stereo, but this sounds like 'fake stereo' to me (highs on the right, lows on the left). A Stereo mix had been by George Martin on 21 October 1963: this version was released in Australia in 1963, and true to the then current tradition: vocals on the right, all the instruments on the left. Thanks to the fact that I Want To Hold Your Hand was recorded on 4-track, it was possible to produce different stereo versions; on 8 June 1965 Norman Smith made a new remix, with the vocals placed in the centre. It was never used. For the UK release 'Collection Of Beatles Oldies' another stereo remix ws made on November 7th 1966. The same version is found on the Past Masters and Remasters releases. In this latest version, the vocals are centered, drums + bass on the left, solo guitar on the right. A clear improvement over te 1963 mix, but.... still sounding awkward: the vocals come in rather abruptly, and drums + bass are only mixed in the left channel. Is it possible to centre the vocals, drums and bass, and leave the guitars separated ? Only in BDJ studios, where the state of the art technology (3-D Spectral Extractor) churned away for quite a while to achieve this feat. But it's worth it, since the stereo picture is now more natural, and drums and bass more powerful than ever heard before.

September-October 1963 was a busy period for the songwriting duo Lennon-McCartney. Amongst the songs composed in that period, I Wanna Be Your Man and I Want To Hold Your Hand take a special place. I Wanna Be Your Man is pure erotic energy, and this more then compensates for the lack of melody or chord structure. On the other hand, I Want To Hold Your Hand is the first major Lennon-McCartney song, of the quality that earned them a place amongst the greatest composers of all time. Two very different songs, and yet there are also many striking similarities: - both start with the 'break' sequence, giving the songs a kick-start (and confusing the listener about the key the song is played in) - both contain 'strange' chords (not a simple major or minor chord). This was really adventurous songwring in popsongs in 1963 ! - lyrics are - very...- similar; In short, both lyrics express a desire to have sex with the singer's partner. Of course, in 1963 this was described in a more roundabout way, but the message is the same. - the desired partner remains anonymous in both songs; strikngly, we learn absolutely nothing about this attactive partner, not even his/her gender; it's all about the singer's feelings. Although both songs are clearly true Lennon-McCartney collaborations, it is clear that Lennon took major responsibiity for the lyrics. It even contains the first 'Lennonism' in "...something, I think you'll understand'. 47 years later, we still don't know hat the 'something' is..... Since Lennon usuallly wrote his lyrics straight form the heart & soul, these songs may well express Lennon's state of mind at that time; focus on physical love, not caring too much who his partner of the day was. The greatest fun aspect is that these songs reached incredible heights of popularty in the ultra puritan US of 1963/4 !

This Boy must have been one of the most succesful B-sides of the Beatles. It was the flip side of I Want To Hold Your Hand, their first no. 1 in the US. They performed the song during the famous Ed Sullivan Shows, on during various concerts. It showcases their vocal abilities, and John gets to rip his vocal chords to great effect during the middle eight. There is no good quality stereo release of This Boy. The single was in mono, and it was then customary NOT to include singles on (stereo) albums. So, the first stereo sounding release came with Past Masters 1; disappointingly, this is mixed in vocals left - instruments to the right mode. In the US, Capitol released a diferent mix on Meet The Beatles, but this sounds rather close to the mono recording. A challenge for the BDJ engineers at One BDJ Plaza; they collected all known releases and outtakes of This Boy, ran them through their BDJ computers, and came up with a new mix. Give it a listen; this one DOES sound different than the 1987 CD........
